Cooper - A photograph features a dog with a white and brown coat, holding a pink and yellow donut-shaped toy in its mouth. The image is taken indoors, with a wooden cabinet and tiled floor visible in the background. The dog's face is centered, with its nose and eyes clearly visible, and the toy is prominent in the foreground.

My puppy came here struggling to walk and with a 104 fever. They quickly figured out he was suffering from a deep tissue infection from his grooming the day before. All of the DRs and support people were wonderful. Kind, caring and wanted to help him get well. My puppy is alive because they got to the bottom of what ailed him quickly and got on top of his skin infection. I can't thank them enough. I highly recommend this facility - I drove over an hour to bring Cooper here and it was totally worth it!

Sweet Pixel - A small white dog with long, flowing ears and dark eyes is captured in a close-up photo. The dog appears to be happy, with its mouth open and tongue slightly out. The background suggests an indoor environment, possibly a home, with a framed picture visible on the wall. The dog is resting on a soft surface, such as a blanket or towel.

To be fair, I left a 5 star review years ago, when it was warranted. I'm not one of those ppl to just write negative reviews... I think really great experiences deserve reviews just the same. That being said, Dr. B is retired and no longer at VRC. This current 1 star review is for the horribly traumatic experience I had this past Friday evening at VRC with staff and with Dr. Paul J. McGough. My beloved 18 yr old 2 lb maltese was diagnosed with lots of tiny, inoperable liver shunts by Dr. Shelling (radiologist) when she was only 2 years old. We were told she would probably not live long. With great care, and with annual prophies with Dr. B, we got her through a wonderful 18 years. Three months ago, she was dx'd w/liver tumor / cancer and started a steady downward decline. For 3 months, we had more great days than bad while I gave her SQ fluids and syringe feedings of Hills A/D prescription diet. On Friday evening, my sweet Pixel had her first seizure, and after coming out of it, let me know that she did not wish to go through that again. I called over to the VRC and spoke with a very nice receptionist. I gave her the details of medical history, let her know that I still wasn't sure I'd like to come right in, but just in case, wanted to proactively let them know my wishes for a peaceful euthanasia using Iso or Sevoflurane to let her sleep before inserting the needle to administer the B-euthanasia drug. I let them know her heart is really strong, and that we would need a solid dose... probably a little more than typically recommended for her weight. I also let them know my wishes to remain with her THE ENTIRE TIME, with her in my arms, and that afterwards, I would like the vet to collect her tissues samples so that I could bank them with Viagen, in the chance that I decide to have them produce a clone puppy in the future. (please don't judge... you have no idea how very special my little dog has been to me and the bond we shared.) I do completely realize that this would not be to replace her, but to honor her and carry on her DNA, and that her clone / "puppy", which is how I like to think of it, would have it's very own personality and character and soul, but would be a little piece of her in same tiny package and with same health history, although would possibly live even longer since we knew and understood Pixel's medical hx and could manage liver issues even better. Plus 18 years is a very good long life for a tiny 2 lb dog!!!) I had my kit from Viagen and was ready. Anyway, the girl I spoke with checked with vet (Dr. Paul McGough) and came back to report that yes, they could do everything as I wished, and would not charge for DNA biopsy collection b/c it's something they've never done before and don't even have a charge in their system for. She said that he was the only vet there, and that they would both be there throughout the night if I needed them. At around 2 am, my precious girl had another small seizure. So we warmed up the car and headed over. On my way, I called just to let them know we were heading in, and that I had given her some melatonin, so she was resting quietly and there would be NO RUSH. I wanted this to be as peaceful and calm as possible for her. This is where things started to go horribly wrong. The person that answered the phone was not the same girl I had spoken with earlier. I asked for her by name, but the girl on the phone pushed back and insisted I tell her the whole story again. I asked again for the other girl. I was then told that she was not there. So I told her that the vet on that night was also aware, and just to let him know that we were on our way in for euthanasia. I asked how busy they were, and was met with "it doesn't matter... when it's a euthanasia, we rush you right on in as soon as you get here". I told her there is NO rush, and I don't want to be rushed! This is NOT a dire emergency... my dog is resting peacefully on my chest and I need CALM. She reiterated that they work quickly when it's for a euthanasia. UGH. DID YOU NOT HEAR ME??? Maybe learn to LISTEN to your patients... it goes a long way. Trust me. That's one skill I have really learned to hone in over the years in my own practice. So she runs back to get the vet, then takes us to a tx room. Vet walks in already really full of attitude. (It's HIS responsibility to defuse the situation, be the bigger person, show staff how to properly handle things calmly and to LISTEN and hear the client out first.) But instead, he told me what I was asking for (and had already proactively prearranged with earlier phone conversation) was "not protocol", they MUST take her away from me to insert a cath, and furthermore, administration of Iso or Sevo to make her more comfortable was completely unethical. WOW. (TWO other vets were fine with that... mine and one other.) Needless to say, I turned around and walked out. Thanks for no help and for a horrible experience in stressful times, VRC.

Bentley - A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy with brown and white fur is lying on a blue textured couch. The puppy has long, floppy ears and is resting its head on the cushion, appearing relaxed and calm. The image captures the puppy's facial expression and body position clearly, with the couch providing a contrasting background.

My compliments to Dr. Sadanaga! He operated on my cavalier Bentley a few weeks ago (11/14/23) and today was his final checkup. The doctor is compassionate, friendly, kind, and a true professional. He is also an artist although he says no. He drew my dog's anatomy to show me the operating procedure. I appreciated this because it was easy to understand. A friend of mine referred me to Dr. Sadanaga because he operated on her dog for a similar surgery and she was so pleased with his service. I see a 100% improvement in my dog since the surgery, The doctor was happy to see Bentley today and even sat on the floor with him. I can't think of a better way to get to know a dog. I notice the little things too. I value Dr. Sadanaga's opinion and will seek his help in the future, even if it is for a second opinion. Thank you Dr. Sadanaga! A happy dog Mom, Kathi Peters

But, I was surprised to learn they do not have a surgical oncologist on staff. The Penn Dr. recommended Dr. Jennifer Reagan at Blue Pearl Malvern. She had a CT at Blue Pearl to be more informed for surgery. The CT report led us to the decision it would be wise to be as aggressive as we can to fight this. Gwen lost her right eye and a lymph node to this process. Dr. Reagan and the nursing staff kept communication very open from day one to the end. Everyone was good to us from the front desk staff to the Dr. herself. If you are an animal lover, you can tell when other people are true animal lovers. All the staff interacted with Gwen in that way and that provided much peace of mind. Gwen has had two follow ups at local vets since she has healed. Both vets commented on the quality of her stitching especially the eye since it was a long area. Gwen's pain was managed so well by the hospital I think the surgery was harder on us than it was on her. The days after coming home she was in high spirits and only concerned about where her groundhog friends were. I am thoroughly pleased with the level of care received. Recommend.

This place, and the caring people in it, made a very difficult day more bearable…read more I came in knowing that I was going to have to put my almost sixteen year old cat down, and as we pet parents know, Sidney was more than a cat to me - he was family. He got me through some REALLY tough times over the past ten years, and honestly I'm not sure how I would have gotten through the pandemic without him. So knowing his time with me was coming to a close, I left it in his hands to tell me when it was time to go. And, unfortunately, that was the day he woke up and his eyes said simply, "Enough." The staff was attentive and kind from the jump. An examination revealed the options, but it was obvious that whatever was happening was quite serious - and I was given a breakdown of potential next steps. Of course with Sid's age, putting him down was also an option, and I already knew this is what we were going with. I did not receive any pressure to run any preliminary tests, procedures, or additional costs. I was simply told what the options were, and provided with an honest opinion of what the outcomes could be. And all options sucked. BUT it was obvious that the people helping me genuinely cared, and it made the heartbreak just a tiny bit easier. I had never had to do this before and I came in with Sid alone, so the vet guided me through what we were doing, what was next, and gave me ample time in between to say goodbye. Again, no real way to make these things less painful, but there was something in the attention and care I was receiving that made me feel like I wasn't going through it alone. The staff was going through it with me. I also received a beautiful card in the mail from them afterwards, hand-signed with a personal message from each - and this small gesture brought such warmth to my heart that I felt I had to share it. Highly recommend this place.

I spent 3+ hours there but it didn't feel like it. I was able to be by his side the entire time, there was hydration and snacks, and I was comfortable. I feel like every nurse checked in with us at least once. Even my cat felt chill enough after a while to curl up and nap in his large cage (they were quite busy and all rooms were taken). As off Feb '25 it was $200 for just the most basic care, for what it's worth, and in our situation it was very much worth it. They sent everything to my usual vet, including recommended follow up testing. Flippin' awesome and so helpful for moving forward after a terrible Sunday!

The woman on the phone asked what was wrong, and I explained. She said they were very busy, so if he wasn't critical, they'd advise us to go elsewhere. When my husband and I arrived, the woman at the front desk asked again what was wrong, so I explained again. She asked if he's been using the litter box, and we said we hadn't seen him use it in two days, but we couldn't be sure because we have five other cats. A nurse came out and again asked what was wrong, and again, I explained. Again, she asked if he was using the litter box, and again we said we weren't sure. She said they were going to check if his bladder was "blocked." I had no idea why everyone seemed so concerned with his bladder. The nurse took Edison back, and we sat and waited...and waited...and waited. After THREE HOURS, I went to the front desk and asked if there was any update. The lady made a phone call and told me Edison's condition was stable, his bladder wasn't blocked (again with the bladder?), and he was "next in line to see the doctor." I asked, "So he hasn't even seen the doctor yet?" She seemed to get defensive and said, "He has been triaged by the nurses and he's waiting to see the doctor." I get that they were very busy. My issue is the total lack of communication about my cat's condition. On the phone, I was told if he wasn't critical, they would tell us to go somewhere else; that didn't happen. How hard would it have been to give me a quick update? Finally, the man at the front desk led us to a tiny exam room, where we waited for about half an hour. Then the doctor came in, and the first words out of her mouth were, "What's going on?" Seriously? I told three different people there what was going on. Nobody told her? So I explained for the fourth time. The doctor told us Edison is skinny, which we knew. She said he lost muscle mass. He's 14 years old. It's normal for cats to lose weight and muscle mass as they age. But she probably mentioned it five times during our conversation. Then she said his pupils were dilated. OK? He wasn't there for an eye exam. She rattled off a list of things that "could" be wrong (diabetes, kidneys, liver, thyroid, cancer, etc.). Then she told us they'd have to do some diagnostic tests. Like I don't know they have to do tests to find out what's wrong? She mentioned a bunch of blood tests, urine tests, and X-rays, then said the blood tests alone were going to cost between $500 and $600, which is twice as much as our regular vet charges. I didn't want to be trapped there another minute, so I asked the doctor if she could give Edison something to make him feel better so he could eat and we could take him to our vet for blood tests tomorrow. She had the gall to try to guilt trip us, saying that there might be something wrong we would "wish" they had found "today at 4pm" (I glanced at my watch, and she corrected herself and said 5pm). All I wish is that they would have found out what was wrong with him at 1pm when we got there. All I wanted to do was make Edison feel better and get him to eat, and I told the doctor this. She agreed to give him a painkiller and anti-nausea medicine. When we checked out, the bill was over $360--for what? They did bupkis. They didn't do any tests, and the doctor apparently just gave him a cursory glance and concluded he was skinny. They didn't even keep us informed while we were waiting for over three hours. This experience was frustrating, aggravating, expensive, confusing, and above all, time-consuming. I would not recommend it to anyone. I have an appointment with another vet tomorrow, so Edison can get his tests, and we can find out what's actually wrong with him.

He was there for several days and a lot of testing with no improvement. They told me to try Philly. I made arrangements for the next day for someone to come to the house. On the way home I kept searching for other places & came across Pinnacle Veterinary Specialists. I decided to take him to Pinnacle. They were wonderful from the start! I explained everywhere we had been and had no answers. Once again Dozer had to go through x-rays & bloodwork. Dr. David Brewer could not see anything definitive. He kinda felt same way Philly did (probably Cancer). He didn't feel it was some disease that dogs can get. I had to know. I just didn't or refused to believe it was cancer. I could not give up without trying and decided to get the MRI. I finally got my answer. It wasn't easy for Dr Brewster to find but it ended up being an infection from an old spinal cord injury that I never knew he had. He could not guarantee Dozer would recover from this because a week had already passed with no treatment. He said it if there is improvement it could take a year. He sent him home with medication and instructions. Within 6 months & a lot of hard work, my Boy was up walking getting better and better every week. Our kitten was almost 5 months old when he became lethargic and I took him in as an emergency. I brought him in, in his carrier wrapped snuggly in a t-shirt that smelled like his favorite human, my then 7 year old. Before we arrived I had hand-fed him, helped him drink water, kept him warm but realized I needed help. So I viewed our pet insurance website and searched for an emergency vet close by. He had insurance. When we arrived, we were called back rather quickly. We only sat in the examine room for maybe 5-10 minutes before he was taken further back without me. 5-10 minutes more and a staff member returned to tell me without extensive treatment he wouldn't make it. They didn't give a reason he had become unwell. No tests were ran. He just didn't respond to something they had given him, so that was their conclusion. I was escorted back to see him, where he lay breathing shallow, eyes open, and needle connected but no fluid attached. I asked questions. Requested more information. I was informed again they didn't believe the chances of him making it were likely. I NEVER gave the permission to euthanize him. I cried and asked for more information. A young lady came over, placed her hand on him and said he had passed. At the time I was a few months postpartum and it took me a while to process that the decision had been made for me. I read his paperwork sometime later and saw that I was charged for euthanizing him. I NEVER requested that. I was informed he was "gone" while I was standing in front of him. No additional fluids were given to him. He had insurance. I reported this establishment to the insurance company when I reviewed the paperwork. I think of that day at random, like today. My family and I cried for months, especially my little girl. It was heartbreaking. So today I'm obedient and I honor Grand Greyson Kabuki Lee Summers AKA Mr. Whiskers by finally leaving a review.

Paws Forever was very helpful with all ours questions . Christine was very helpful and compaionate . Dr Holmsted was the vet who put them down. He explained everything , answered questions , was sympathetic to all our needs , and really cared for us and our babies.
