DO NOT BOOK THROUGH VRBO. I REPEAT, DO NOT BOOK THROUGH VRBO. The host misrepresented the property. The entire building reeked of smoke, and there were drug users and homeless people IN the hallways of my rented apartment. The host was largely unresponsive, and was of no help. Neither was Vrbo customer support. In fact, it is the WORST I have ever seen in my life. They put you on hold for what seems to be FOREVER, keep transferring you to other departments, the line will often drop, and they do not have a good record keeping system, so you have explain yourself OVER AND OVER AGAIN. They do not appear to be based in the US/Canada and all sound robotic as if they are reading from a script. They stated that a refund was at the discretion of the host, and they couldn't do ANYTHING to make things right. Essentially no protection for the guest WHATSOEVER. Anyone can simply make a listing, post devious pictures and misrepresent the fact, and we're basically at their mercy. You can send pictures, videos and testimony to no avail. I've now lost over $600 to this misadventure. NEVER AGAIN. If you must, please, ONLY use Airbnb.

Lakeside Wooded Retreat. Wadleigh Point Road, Kingston, NH Was here with my sisters for our summer getaway. It was great. We were in a one-room ground floor suite that was about 15 hillside steps above the lake (Great Pond AKA Kingston Lake), although not huge, it fit us nicely with a queen sized bed, pull out queen couch & a comfy twin sized rollaway bed. Nancy, one of the homeowners (they live in the upper two floors of this beautiful lakeside home), was accessible by cell phone if there was an issue (she texted us good info about places to dine/snack/hike/etc.) & she had left us a welcome note along with a bottle of wine & her husband took us for a wonderful electric boat "cruise" at sunset. Nice touch. Full kitchen & bathroom, dining area, under-cover patio with chairs & table (great place for reading, along with the bench on the dock) a dock on which we lay to gaze at the stars late one night, direct access to the lake on which we kayaked a few times, firepit, Adirondack chairs on the edge of the lake, water toys & canoe on which to float to & around the nearby island. It all made for a really good sisters' getaway.

We would not recommend Vrbo. They listed a property as having onsite parking and being luxury. It was neither. There was no onsite parking and it could not be described as luxury. Nothing worked, including the heating) and the finish was cheap. It was a hardship to stay, and we moved to an hotel. Vrbo has not refunded their fee and continue to list the property, despite our complaints. Sandy and Arnold Segal read more

The property owner canceled 24 hrs prior to our arrival. VRBO helped us book with another property. Then the first owner spontaneous takes back the cancelation. VRBO told us to stay at the first property and they would help with a refund at the second property. Everytime you call VRBO you get someone new and they ask for something else. We have spend more than 20 hrs on this, and there has been no refund. Today we received a harsh email saying they will no longer talk to us about this and "they have given their final word, and will reject any further emails." They asked us for any e-mail we send and they have never given us a straight answer about anything. read more

I've been using VRBO (Homeaway) for years. It's always been good until I've had an issue. The property (3 bedrooms) and the listing (4 bedrooms) didn't match. The property was filthy, AC didn't work (Vegas in August), and the sewer came up from the baths every time we flushed the toilet. The host was nasty and hostile. We ended up booking a place on Airbnb that cost the same but was perfect for my family and me. VRBO support was terrible and wouldn't transfer me to another property, even though I took pictures and showed them that it's a three-bedroom house on the title. They claimed that the tiny closet was the 4th bedroom. They also said that I should contact the owner about the other issues. I told them I was not going to spend our three days vacation inspecting his house and accommodate contractors to work during our stay. What a joke of a company. I'm done with VRBO. read more

This review is for the current VRBO site, not a specific property address. I'm an owner trying to list my property on VRBO. I've been listing my property on Airbnb for several years and that has been profitable. I decided to widen my reach and list on VRBO. They offer a service that allows an owner to easily transfer their Airbnb listing to VRBO and sync the calendars. I thought to give this a try. Wow, what a waste of time and frustration this has been. I've spent about 2 hours on the phone or chat with support 3 times. My Airbnb listing was transferred but it still needs a lot of work to get it to be the same. I spent about 2 hours working on the VRBO listing. I synced my calendars but it's not right. So I made the VRBO calendar manually and will sync the calendars manually. My listing is still not visible on VRBO, I don't know why, and support cannot give me an answer either. This has been an incredibly frustrating and amateurish process with VRBO. Airbnb is much more professional and smoother. I can't believe VRBO is like this, especially after being acquired by Expedia. Wow. What a waste of my time. read more

Recently I tried to book with VRBO and keep in mind I have used them multiple times and always have a great review from all the host. Well for some reason in 2024 this company perhaps has gotten so big that is does not know which host have asked it to remove their listing and once I was confirmed the host msg me stating that VRBO was not supposed to list them. After that cancellation I gave VRBO another shot to make it up and booked another listing with in 5 mins of the last one. Suddenly the new other host also canceled me as well, stating they have some kind of National Emergency all the while were was not such thing, and it was only a lie to get me to agree or kick the can down the road. Wow talk about getting to big for your own good. SMH! I would dismissing using them if you ever want a serious company go with SUPER.com, they are the real deal! read more

There should be negative or zero stars for scam sites! Before making a reservation the vrbo listing claimed that there was free cancellation till September 2nd (current date being July 10). So we go ahead and make reservations. As soon as we make reservations, we get an email that claims that currently paid amount is non-refundable!! Avoid vrbo at all costs!! read more

Beware of VRBO listings! The listing and pictures were very misleading. We spoke with VRBO and were told to speak with owner who agreed to refund us 20% of the funds he received. We then got in contact with VRBO and requested that they refund us 20% of the balance since we relied on the description and pictures that they posted on their site. We were promised a return call from management four times but it never happened. Their rep, Rea, requested we send the photos with all the issues and a specialist would look at them and get back to us; didn't happen. I told one rep I didn't think VRBO cared about the customer and then asked her name and she immediately hung up. The bottom line is once they get your money, they're done with you. read more

I flew down to enjoy my family for the first time in five years. It was an absolutely beautiful home with great space to accommodate my family until we got there and we all tried to enjoy a family movie but felt completely miserable with how warm the house was and when trying to lower the air we were unable to do to the thermostat having a lock on it that we were unable to access. We were all headed out the door to spend the day at the water park the day before our check out when a woman coming to clean the home showed up to the house...she said she thought we had check-out today, we then told her our check-out was for Sunday which was the following day and that was that ... then I immediately was contacted by the owner of the home. The host stated we needed to get out of her f****** house and that she was going to bring her posse to remove us. I was shocked, I told her I rented the house from the 27-30th. She then said she changed the days of the rental 2 days before I flew in when I booked over a month in advance. I never acknowledged this!! I have my original receipt that shows I booked the correct day and even the police said I have every right to stay but after being threatened by the host and her posse, I gathered all my grandkids and left. This was supposed to be an amazing family vacation with my grandkids that turned into a nightmare. This host is very unprofessional. I would not recommend this place please beware she will change your booking dates. Vrbo can't do anything to help you!! read more

I tried to list my property and it was very complex. After never publishing the listing some called that was very friendly and helpful. I had to call again due to an issue with getting the bank details set up. The representative couldn't find the answer and I was waiting patiently and suddenly she disconnected the call and never attempted to call back. I called back and was on hold for over an hour and no one ever did respond. This company is likely a scam!!!! read more

I thought Airbnb was bad. Then I booked with VRBO. I have had my share of not-so-great experiences with Airbnb but in the end, they always came through, although you have to spend hours on phone with them. VRBO seems 1000 times worse than Airbnb. We booked a vacation rental in Hawaii using VRBO and were eagerly looking forward to it. Once we checked in the house was in a horrible condition. It looked as if it was not cleaned between guests. There were roaches in dishwasher, hair on the floor, unflushed toilet paper, food particles all over the countertop, unclean/used towels. We immediately alerted the host and VRBO. We sent 30+ photos and videos of roach sightings. I was communicating with the host via VRBO chat so I can have record of everything. The host agreed that their regular cleaners were out of town and she doesn't know if the temp cleaners did the cleaning or not. The host said that she can't schedule the cleaners until the next one or two days. We refused with that resolution as we didn't want to stay in a dirty house. VRBO said that they would provide alternative accommodation until the house gets cleaned. The host agreed to change the reservation to start on the next day so we don't be charged for that one night we can't stay. We left the keys inside the home and left the house waiting for VRBO to send us alternative accommodation details. We waited for couple of hours and had to call back as it was almost close to 10 PM. Keep in mind that we left the keys inside the house and at this point we don't have the keys to the vacation home anymore. We called VRBO again to see what happened to our alternative accommodation. The new agent we spoke to says that what was told to me was not the standard procedure. They said that the VRBO has to confirm with the host regarding the 1-night refund. We told the agent that the host agreed to it on the chat and the previous agent told us they will find us alternative accommodation. The new agent refused to do anything as she was trying to contact the host to get 1 night cancellation confirmation. It was past midnight where the host lives so the host didn't respond. By this time, it was almost midnight where we were. The agent kept telling me that we can't get alternate accommodation. We informed the agent that we don't even have the keys to get it. At this point the agent said that VRBO can't provide alternative accommodation but can reimburse us for up to $150 and that we have to make our own booking. We were in Hawaii and there was absolutely nothing available for under $1000 a night. I don't understand how VRBO can leave their customers stranded in the middle of the night. It is ridiculous that they offered $150 in the first place. What makes it worse that it came with so many conditions that it is impossible to get that $150. The requirements were that I need to book with Expedia or Hotels.com or directly with the hotel. If I found accommodation on any other 3rd party website or any of the credit card portals, then they wouldn't reimburse $150. It is beyond my comprehension how VRBO is still in business. We ended up cancelling the accommodation as the host couldn't promise the house would be cleaned in a timely manner as their regular cleaners were out of town. VRBO refused to help as they said that the host agreed to clean the house "at some point" during our stay. VRBO also said that they require proof of multiple roach sightings to consider the home unsanitary. I was only able to send 6 different roach sighting videos as every time I open a cabinet door or dishwasher, roaches run so fast that it's impossible to catch them on video. Apparently 6 sightings is not enough proof. Since the listing was cancelled, I can't even write a review. I got all of my money back as the host agreed to cancel but we lost almost 1 whole day in our 10-day vacation and also had to spend ~5x the original amount to find last minute accommodation. I know there is nothing I can do now but just wanted to rant somewhere. read more

For a recent trip, as many times in the past I utilized Hotels.com to do a cost comparison. Now that Hotels.com, Expedia and VRBO are all under one umbrella I ended up on VRBO. For those that don't to read the whole story let me just say what VRBO let a fraud rental on their site, in the end standing in Miami I had to turn around and book 2 hotel rooms to cover my party. After I filed my request for refund and complaint I was told the extra $100 dollars it cost to book the day of was my problem. "VRBO do not offer any additional reimbursement for one night bookings" "No I can not escalate your request". "I can assure you the listing is not longer being allowed on VRBO" ....... What they mean is thanks for catching this scam but yeah you are out of luck. So apparently you have get scammed for multiple nights before they admit their short fall. I will never use Expedia, Hotels.com or VRBO ever again, this is a ridiculous practice to have in place......... scam, theft whatever you want to call it... VRBO you're a joke. $100 dollars isn't the issue, the issue was the principal that you missed something in your host verification process and wouldn't own it......... I had to pay for your screw up and that's the bigger issue. At least make the customer think you care in some way. The Long Version! In May of 2024 I booked a one night stay in Miami for a football game. All the way up to our reservation I received constant communications about my booking. How to Check in and how to reach the host. As of 4 hours before check in I still had not received any check in information. After my attempt to reach the host was answered with " wrong number" I contacted VRBO. VRBO said all the right things and "reached out to the host" but I was assured there was not issue. "Call us when you get to the location if there is still an issue. An hour after the check in time I arrived at the location to be greeted by a nice lady who informed me......... "I bought this house a few months ago and its not listed on VRBO". Now 4 hours from home, headed to an NFL Game I contact VRBO again. I had to start the whole story over again because the previous Reference number had been closed out. I am basically told they will " have to investigate". They again attempted to contact the host and had the same number I tried......oh wait "wrong Number". After the weekend I reached out to VRBO who again........... I had to start the whole story over again because the previous Reference number had been closed out. Three days later I get an email that states my initial fees were being refunded since my reservation was "cancelled". Thus my call that is outlined in the first paragraph above. Expedia/VRBO/Hotels.com have lost my business and I will make sure any opportunity I have to keep people from using them I will. read more

VRBO is the very worst and terrible at customer service. Their hosts make up stories. Same issue... cancel at last minute now three times on VRBO in the past 12 months!! VRBO host canceled after I paid in full. The cancelation was made 7 days before check in. The app did not notify me of cancelation. Owner of property stated" Cancel because one of his associates incorrectly listed home. Booking was made in July 2023 and paid for in July and November. 2023. Owner sat on my money for 6 months and then refunded it. He took the interest. Imagine he does this with 10 people... he sits on $20,000 making interest! VRBO told me they have their critical care team working to find me a similar house at similar/ same cost.... Travel starts in 24 hours and I am still waiting for a call back. They have ZERO customer service or care. read more

We rented this house called "beauty with a pool " in Corpus Christi, Texas, they deleted my review off their page so it didn't ruin their reputation. Anyways, here's my review that I saved incase it did get deleted. We rented this house thinking we were going to get a nice and peaceful vacation. As the days went on at this house we realized that this house was not very clean. The description of the property said it was newly renovated but that is not the case. If it was newly renovated their water damage on their shelf system and base boards would have been fixed. There was mold in the bathroom in the hallway, the baseboards in that bathroom looked like they were never cleaned, and the pool seemed to have a leak in it so we barely used it because the eater was low. There was a lightswitch in the hallway that has a faulty wire or something because i got shocked by it a couple of times. My parents friend that was with us cut her ankle on the jagged and unleveled concrete im the backyard. The front bedroom at the front of the house had a loose outlet panel that is completely unsafe, and in that same bedroom the bed was absolutely disgusting. It was completely stained and looked like it came out of the garbage. If i had noticed the first day of our stay i would have contacted the owners immediately and would have required a new mattress. The owners also kept pestering us about a package that was missing that we had no idea about, we finally ended up finding it in the closet in the hallway. Because of this search for the package the owners asked if they could come a search for it while we werent there, we did not say yes as we were gone for the day but it seemed like they had tried to enter the premises anyways as the lockbox was open read more

POSTED on VRBO The Palms Resort Myrtle Beach, SC Beautiful Oceanfront 3 Bedroom Condo 102 main tower. LIE! First and foremost I want to specify that this review is not for the Palms Resort. It is for this room that is located in the Palms. I am only posting this exact review because when I tried to post this review after my stay VRBO has made me change it 5 times because I gave them a 1. The room is located in the first tower of the palms it is 102. It overlooks the Swimming pool which can be noisy at times however the view is nice. That is the best thing I can say about this place. First of all I booked this through the Vrbo app and this is the first nightmare I have ever had with Vrbo. When you book this room through Vrbo you are you are out of luck. You will have no one to meet your needs unless you have someone such as I did step up and help. However, don't count on it. I paid $391 a night for this room that looked like it came out of the projects in Richmond Virginia. There was no one to call to complain about this room. All of your information will come from the palms. The owner, being the coward that he is, lets the palms do all his dirty work for him. This is how your communication will go if you have a problem, and you will, with this room. The only number to call is the palms resort number. A very nice operator on the other end will look and see that you booked this room through VRBO and tell you "I am so sorry but all the problems with this room will have to be dealt with VRBO" which then circles back to contact the palms and you have no way to contact the owner. The owner has been asked many times to fix these horrible things that are wrong with this condo. I'm not even going to begin to list them I'm just going to post pictures if I'm able to but he is trying to sell the place and refuses to repair but still rents out and charges double of what that room was listed for on the day we arrived. This is a max $200/night room because it is a POS. Because this was such a huge injustice to a guest at this resort, The Palms made it right. They moved us to 1601, beautiful and showed me 2 other condos that were updated and lovely to prove this owner and his junk property is not their standard. Is there not an HOA? I will NEVER use VRBO again. Look for my reviews on this resort, The Palms room 1601 with google and trip advisor. read more

I've been a user for our Maui property for the last nine years. In the beginning VRBO was a great site for guests wanting to travel to Maui. Since being purchased by Expedia, the quality of the site has really gone downhill. Today I received a VRBO request from a potential guest for 16 days (a $5,000+ booking) where the guest received an error in trying to leave a deposit for my unit. Obviously I was very disappointed as VRBO blocks off email addresses and telephone numbers so I could not communicate with them other than by going through the site. I told them to please be patient but they ended up booking another unit. I called up VRBO and received an operator saying they have had some glitches and our working on it. Does this replace my $5000 booking? No! I hope they get their act together soon!! read more

BEWARE! THEY ARE SCAM ARTIST! -DON'T BOOK HERE -ALL BOOKING PLATFORMS! Hermann Josef, (Bahamas Vacation Club) is a SCAM ARTIST. If you Airbnb at Butterfly Cottage at Viking Hill,Nassau, Bahamas you will not get what you paid for. The room looks nothing like the pictures, they are scamming people out of their money. I flew 5 hours and 30minutes to come to find the Airbnb I booked is not the same as the pictures. They took someone else's pictures from the internet. Firstly, the host representative Rosie/Rosia tried to give me a room I did not book and tried to con-artist me, then took me to the room I booked with the balcony, but still it looked nothing like the pictures, then she had the nerve to ask me for $100 deposit, when I already paid for the Airbnb in advance, I know for a fact that is against Airbnb policy. I reached out to the Hermann Josef and let him know that he's running a SCAM and then he lied and said he did know that his Airbnb was not the same as the pictures, acted like he did not know that it was a SCAM and he had a false advertisement on his profile. I reported this to Airbnb and asked them to file a claim against them for false advertisement, but nothing is being done about this. People should get what they paid for by the exact listing they see, not false advertised misleading pictures or information. Airbnb needs to put a stop to false advertising on their platform and ban anyone who is reported for breaking this policy. This is a list of other safety hazards and safety issues that went on at Butterfly Cottage at Viking Hill. BEWARE! DO NOT BOOK HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SCAMMED OUT YOUR MONEY To summarize my grievances: 1. False Advertising: The room I booked did not resemble the pictures posted on the listing. It was a blatant misrepresentation, and it is evident that the host intentionally used images from the internet to deceive potential guests. 2. Unlawful Deposit Request: Rosie/Rosia insisted on a $100 cash deposit, a direct violation of Airbnb policy. This not only caused unnecessary delays but also left me feeling deceived and frustrated. 3. Safety Hazards: Beyond the misleading pictures, the Butterfly Cottage at Viking Hill presented various safety concerns, including a major water leak, inadequate bedding leading to discomfort, and poorly maintained glass sliding doors causing disturbances during the night. I reported these issues to Airbnb, urging swift action against false advertising and safety hazards on your platform. Regrettably, my concerns seem to have fallen on deaf ears, and no action has been taken against Hermann Josef or Butterfly Cottage at Viking Hill. I implore you to consider the severity of this situation and take immediate action to rectify the harm caused to unsuspecting guests. It is crucial for Airbnb to maintain its commitment to providing accurate information and ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its users. Airbnb Need To Investigate: - Investigate the false advertising and safety hazards reported at Butterfly Cottage at Viking Hill. - Enforce appropriate consequences, such as suspending the host's account, to deter future misconduct. - Strengthen measures to prevent and promptly address false advertising and safety issues across the platform. Your swift and decisive action in this matter will not only restore my faith in Airbnb but also contribute to the overall trust and safety of the community. I believe that by addressing these concerns promptly, Airbnb can maintain its reputation as a reliable and responsible platform for travelers worldwide. Airbnb - is not protecting its customers against SCAMS read more

Apartment rebred was fine, missing basic equipment like a dish drying rack and pans for the oven. Experience was awful though. Someone else arrived on the second day looking for the key in the lockbox, saying they also had a reservation. Turns out the apartment we rented through BRBO belongs to an agency that seems to go through a second agency that in turn goes through VRBO--three agencies!! The supposed owner did not respond when I tried to be in touch with them earlier, despite accepting a live chat request. So, not helpful when trying to urgently sort out why someone else was trying to get in to our rental and whether our group of three generations spanning from 4 years old to 87 was safe, whether we would have to move, etc. After a couple of hours with Vrbo we supposedly had it resolved. The next day someone tried to get in again. And someone else came with bags to "collect the linen" because we were "supposed to be checking out" (we actually had a few days left on the reservation). When I tried to contact VRBO they did not respond this time. The intermediary agency said they could do nothing and to contact the owner directly. No one took accountability or responsibility for the apartment, we felt pretty hung out to dry. It cast a huge shadow on a very special transatlantic and transchannel trip to introduce grandparents and grandkids, as we were left wondering if someone would enter the apartment and whether our belongings (or us!) were safe and if we'd have to leave. Not to mention we were unsure whether we could leave the apartment for outings or meals or anything! Not what anyone should have to deal with on any sort of stay. We were very unimpressed with the experience and VRBO and Belvilla and CheckMyGuest. Do NOT recommend this apartment or renting from any of the aforementioned companies. read more

Just had a horrible experience with VRBO. Booked in Lisbon, Portugal months back. Since then the property listing has been removed from VRBO. The host will not respond...totally ghosting us. Called VRBO and after many, many hours on the phone over several months they will not assist us. Agents have a script they use and do not actually address your concerns no matter how many times you ask questions. So we have to look for new accommodations at the last minute and VRBO will not NOT REFUND OUR MONEY. I view this as assisting the owner in committing fraud. VRBO watches out for the owners/managers, not for the individuals that rent. BEWARE!! Would give a zero rating but this was not an option. read more

We arrived in Maui at 11 pm excited for our stay in a VRBO condo. I had received an email entitled "Keys for your stay" and assumed we were good to go with the information for entry to the property. Through either the owner's or VRBO's error, there was no document attached. We messaged the owner for an hour to no avail before reaching out to VRBO support. After being placed on hold several times and having our call dropped, we were sent an email telling us to book another property on Expedia or VRBO. By this time it was after midnight and there were no properties available. We called back and were placed on hold again and then dropped. After this we received an email telling us to "self lodge." What does this even mean? After calling 20 hotels we found a room at the Courtyard for $700 and have been told we will not be receiving a refund. Unbelievable! This was my first and last time using VRBO! read more

We booked a reservation and decided to cancel within a day. Their customer service said that this property came from another site, which I don't understand since it was on the VRBO site and there was no reference to any other site. I read the cancellation policy carefully and it did not say that the property was being booked from a different platform and that I would need owner approval for a cancellation I had every right to make according to VRBO. The cancellation policy gave us months to cancel with a 100% refund. That's what the cancellation policy said and that's what should happen. Instead, I can't cancel unless the owner approves it and I'm still waiting for that approval. Unbelievable. Clearly the cancellation policy that VRBO states on the property page was a lie. It's never been so difficult to cancel. With so many other great platforms, I'm done with VRBO. read more
VRBO/Homestay is the absolute worst home/vacation rental site that I have ever used. After deciding to try a different platform for my stay in Montreal and thinking I had found a nice place to reside in for a week, we had a horrible case of false advertisement (flickering lights, broken outlets, holes in the walls, dirty kitchen floors, soap pump didn't even work, etc). It was so bad, we didn't even spend more than 24 hours there! We immediately booked a home through AirBnB and contacted VRBO while we were still in the crap room. They would not give me a refund on the remaining nights or even a percentage of a refund. Of course I went through all the necessary steps and was very cooperative throughout the entire process. I tried to messaging the host first, who did not even try to understand or observe my evidence. He told me I was exaggerating and that the issues were minor.. If my fiance is trying to study and the lights are flickering and the outlet is not working to charge his laptop, that is is NOT a minor problem, that is a MAJOR INCONVENIENCE. When I called VRBO immediately after not being able to reach the host over the phone to come to a resolution, the woman on the phone sounded very rude, dismissive, and condescending. She told me I had to work it out with the homeowner.. When I told her that I already tried that, she seemed to get even more annoyed and asked me to send her whatever information I had along with proof. I did that. I sent photos and video of everything wrong with the room and they did NOTHING. They didn't even respond to me. I called them again and they informed me that they had denied my claim. This company is money hungry and does not care about it's customers. That is the first and last time I will be using their "service". AirBnB is the only way to go and I'm very upset that I decided to try something new when AirBnB had never failed me before. I have never had any issues with false advertisement or rude hosts with them. read more

I would never use Verbo again. I'm renting a place currently in New Hampshire for a week. I was told by the environmental protection agency that the water is not safe and my wife cannot swim in it. She has health conditions. I requested a refund a month and a half out, when we found out the situation they asked for proof we sent it in and they still haven't responded. The host refuses to talk to us. My wife's doctor said if she goes in the water she's risking her life. Do not use Verbo they do not care about you. All they care about is renting the next property out , do not use New Hampshire at all. The water is really bad there in the lakes check it out with the environmental protection agency. They recommend you not swim or touch the water. read more

We booked an apartment via VRBO to escape the rain in Holland. All was confirmed and paid for. After a 10hr drive with our 2-year-old daughter, no one was there to pick us up or guide us to the apartment. After half an hour trying to find a phone number of VRBO, we decided to ring the doorbell of the rented apartment. The owner responded and told us he had cancelled the reservation. There we were, tired of the trip with no place to sleep with a 2-year-old completely exhausted and in need of a bed. Luckily, we quickly found a hotel nearby, which was a miracle since the whole area seemed fully booked. There was one room left. An expensive one, but with an exhausted toddler, we didn't mind. She had to sleep. After another hour of searching, I finally found a phone number to contact VRBO. I explained the situation to a support employee and she confirmed that all was paid but not cancelled and something went wrong. The protocol that VRBO uses in this situation is extremely unprofessional. Every self-respecting travel agent would be devastated and do everything to help out the client. VRBO simply told us to look for a new apartment and the extra expenses for the hotel would NOT be covered. It's unbelievable how this company is connected to HomeAway. It seems to be a moneymaking company with no need for the well-being of their clients. We had to wait 3 days to get a refund. The hotel we were staying in helped us out by making some calls around to find another place to stay in the coming week. They were angels compared to the people in the VRBO company. They also reached out to the director of the local Tourist Office to make sure to keep an eye out on this VRBO company and bookings, because it legally could end up as a fraud. 2 weeks later, I sent a mail to VRBO to discuss all the extra time and money spent. I reminded them twice on the mail. They never replied. It's a fraudulent company. Don't use this company ever. read more

We went to London and rented a flat for 3 days. When we arrived we learned someone had put our rental on VRBO, but it was a fake location. We actually met the owner of the flat who lived full time in her apartment. It was a scam! VRBO refunded our money. While homeless in London, with high tourism, Pride and Wimbledon beginning, hotel rooms were limited. I called 4 times to VRBO for help 4 times I was hung up on. When I asked about being reimbursed for the added expense of the hotel room, I was told since we didn't make the reservation through VRBO, they weren't obligated to make up the difference. We paid 3xs more because they didn't do their job and vet the property before adding it to their web site. It's risky renting through VRBO, and their customer service and policies are not supportive of the renter. read more

Nothing but disappointing. Avoid! Substandard and dangerous properties that are not as advertised. Over priced at half the costs.
As an Owner, STAY AWAY! Vrbo is the absolute worse when I comes to listing your property. They are a huge SCAM! They seriously don't care about your property, let alone the guest, they just want your money. We have yet to be paid for a reservation, we're on two months now and every-time I have called, it's someone different. They have BS answers - I asked for proof that the funds were sent and she literally hung up on me. FISHY!? Yup! Use Airbnb - they are reliable for guest and hosts. read more

Booked a home, and they took payment. Then last minute, they canceled our reservation. VRBO would not help in any way and said they do not offer any form of compensation ever. A small amount of the roaches that I saw during my stay in Maui.... when calling the landlord and telling her that we've seen about 5 roaches and 2 the size of my thumb the landlady only said that she never had a roach complaint and she could Give us a can of raid.. funny thing is that the can of raid was almost empty.. and when calling VRBO they told us that it was a minor issue and they couldn't help because we couldn't prove that it was a infestation because we didn't have pictures of a grouping of roaches... ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE.. I wasn't pulling out my camera to take pics everytime I saw a roach because I was busy trying to kill them... now we have to find another place and VRBO helped with nothing. I would never use them again and I will tell everyone I know to stay far away.. read more

Vrbo is awful do not use them. They do not care about their guests at all. My friends and I booked an apartment rental through Vrbo for our trip to Erie in August. I never received anything from the host including the check-in information. What's more the hosts voicemail was full. I called Vrbo on multiple occasions letting them know I couldn't reach the host. Each time I got a new person and was assigned a new case number. Vrbo just kept telling me to keep trying to get ahold of the host and that they couldn't issue me a refund or find me another place to stay until 4:00 p.m. the day of check in. Also every time I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor I was told they were on another call and would get back to me that day (they never did). My friends and I drove 6 hours to Erie and could not reach the host or get into the apartment. I called Vrbo and was advised they could get me a hotel for one night, I would have to find other accommodations for the rest of our trip. I told them to forget it and just give me my money back. Which they ultimately did. I felt during this entire ordeal that Vrbo did not care that I was getting screwed over. All of the people I spoke to in customer service were not helpful at all, did not listen to me and just kept repeating the same thing. This host in Erie (Tom Bonyai) has now done this same thing to 2 different people and has two horrible reviews yet Vrbo let's him stay on their site. I will NEVER use Vrbo again read more

This pertains to VRBO and not a property. I first used VRBO 20+- years ago and all was good until 2020. The property I reserved in May 2020 didn't go near as smoothly as the past. Now it is worse. They have modeled themselves after Airbnb which in my opinion sucks. They're excessive and intrusive paranoia that host and guest will get something over on them is obsessive and in my case unwarranted. I'll search for direct host communication properties henceforth. read more

I would give less than one star if I could- VRBO does not advocate for their users- just takes your money and leaves you on your own with property management companies. We recently arrived at a home that was a true case of false advertising; rented what was supposed to be a "private pool home" vacation home for a family reunion and arrived to find a filthy, roach-infested property with an unusable pool, completely green with algae and bacteria, and NO refrigerator in the kitchen! We asked for VRBO's support to obtain a refund and remove the listing until management could resolve the issues- after receiving no response from property management (Benchmark Management in Seaside, FL)- and were left with zero assistance from VRBO. Shameful. read more

I used to use VRBO all the time to connect with homeowners of great houses and pay VRBO several hundred dollars. It worked great. Now you go on and find a house and the fees vary wildly and are sometimes as much as the house, although you can't tell what the fees are when you are shopping. Also, half the houses are listed by horrible management companies like Vacasa, which means the fees are double. Also if you read the reviews of houses now, the reviews for more houses than you'd think are horrible--houses that aren't cleaned, etc it's no longer mainly a website for homeowners to find renters but just a bunch of corrupt companies ripping off renters. read more

Booked property through VRBO in Hampton, FL. Arrived at property at 5:15 on 5/5/23 but have not received the code to entry doors, sent text and called the property manager. Property manager responds to my inquiry at 8:49pm with the access code and letting me know that we can check-in at noon instead of 4pm as per contract. All communications are done in VRBO app, searched the web for customer service for VRBO and found (877) 228-3145. Called them multiple times but they are polite on the phone and take the same information with every call, but that is as far as you get with their customer service nothing. Upon arrival to the property all the garbage cans are full with lids on them, but garbage all over the property with dirty diapers, paper cups, paper plates etc. furniture on the deck should have been placed in the garbage many moons ago. Requested a full refund and got nothing. read more

Just returned from Spain, everything was great until our last rental in Benodorm, Spain. The property owner completely mislead with their VRBO property listing. The property listed: "Your private outdoor area includes a covered terrace and a balcony. There is a restaurant in the building and a bar and café right next door". (sounds lovely) The property owner displayed a photo of the third floor apartment on the VRBO site showing a table and chairs appearing to be on the balcony! However, there is NO BALCONY or covered terrace. The property owner appeared to list the benefits of being in close proximity to a restaurant and bar right next door. However the property owner neglected to inform you that the bar was open until 5 am. Requiring the sliding glass doors be kept closed from 10 in the morning until 5 the following morning in order to keep the music below ear damaging levels. Oh, one other minor item. With the sliding glass doors closed to keep the bar noise out at 4 in the morning, you needed to run the A/C almost 24 hours a day. Which the owners failed to explain cost 1 dollar an hour extra. After 9 years of renting from VRBO this was truly the vacation from Hell and VRBO refuses to force the property owner to prove their completely misleading property listing. I spent the past hour discussing these problems with VRBO Customer Service and escalating to a Supervisor. If I could give them a negative rating number, I would. I initially rented a VRBO vacation rental in Maui for 15 days. 2 months prior to the rental I had to cut my vacation time to 9 days. A VRBO employee told me that I could cancel for full refund but if I wanted a partial refund from VRBO, I would have to wait until I returned from the stay and then request the refund, but the owner would refund immediately (which they did, very gracious of them and perfect location, I highly recommend the rental!!). I then did as requested and requested the refund the day after my return. Here is the VRBO employee with my instruction. Dear Leroy, We appreciate you taking the time and effort to provide us with this information. I completely understand that you're concerned about the tax refund reminder for your reservation #HA-ZYDXR5. As mentioned earlier, in order to be able to process the stay tax refund reminder, the reservation must be post-stay. So, please contact us after completing your stay (03/29/2023) and I will be more than happy to process the refund for the tax due. Another option would be to cancel and rebook for the dates, so this will calculate the correct tax due and you can be refunded right now. If you have additional questions, please reply to this email. Regards, Bouhi Vrbo.com Support Team Vrbo help |~|00X0y000001xNChEAM|~| A month after I sent in my refund request, I contacted VRBO by phone. After checking into our house at 38 North Forrest Beach on Hilton Head Island, managed by iTrip Vacations, who is affiliated with a local company called Low Country Rentals, who in turn lists properties for rent on VRBO, we began discovering a series of issues. The first was the living room television. We got a prompt call back about getting it to work, only later to find if it was turned off everything had to be reloaded which took more than 20 minutes. The only way to get it to come on was to unplug it and plug it back in. Days later, we found that the DVD player could not be connected to it either. Soon, guests began discovering several toilets were backed up and overflowing when used. The office had closed by then. Plungers were not helping with two of the four bedroom toilets. The sink backed up that night because the garbage disposal was broken. We found several electrical outlets that would not hold a plug. One even sparked. The pool appeared to be neglected, especially compared to the one next door where people were able to play in the water. We did not want to be complaining about everything so decided to concentrate on getting the plumbing issues fixed. We texted the next day when the office was open, leaving a message about our biggest concern - the toilets. We received a text back that plumbers rarely came out on Sunday, but they would be in touch Monday, if not. It was noted their inspection report had deemed the plumbing system operating correctly. In the meantime, one toilet upstairs overflowed to the point it flooded the bathroom and leaked a large amount of dirty toilet water through the ceiling into the kitchen. ( You could tell looking at the ceiling this problem had occurred before ). On Monday morning we got a text from the management company ( Low Country Rentals or iTrip Vacations ), saying that Low Tide Plumbing would be at the house between 11:00 and 1:00 PM, so some of us went back to meet them. We never heard from them so sent two texts over several hours back to the management company and did not hear anything back from them until that evening. Finally, we got a text saying Superior Plumbing would be there by 8:15 PM. We scrambled back and a courteous young man did his best to solve the problems using different machines. After indicating he had a lot more to do and had two toilets pulled out with no problems solved, we excused him for the night ( 11:00 PM ). The next day we were notified Low Tide Plumbing would be there just before noon, so once again, we left what we were doing and met with them. The information they were given from the previous plumber some how got mixed up so it's a good thing we were there to show them what had happened. They fixed the problems pretty quickly, mentioning the disposal was dead, and the management company sent out a cleaning person to freshen the bathrooms and kitchen, which we were grateful for. So three and one half days into our stay, that major headache finally was resolved. We did not bother to complain about anything else and we had a good time in the house. After our stay we asked the management company for an appropriate refund ( in our minds maybe 1/2 off ) for all of the inconveniences. We did not hear back for several days, so we talked with VRBO about it several times. They were sympathetic, but explained the owner and management company were the ones who charged us, and would be responsible for any refund. Itrip vacations said the same thing. VRBO did say they would review the case and might penalize them for neglect ( but who knows ). Since we could not get a response, VRBO left three messages to the management company to get them to communicate. Then, suddenly, Matt Williams responded to us by email saying he had been on vacation and did not like our tone. He defended their actions and declared they would not be held hostage to us waiting to write a review based what they decided to do. He was defensive about everything we brought up, putting it back on us. There were several things he did not know about that we just lived with, so that could have all been worked out in a phone conversation we never were able to have. It turns out we were never able to leave a review on VRBO because a brief one sentence message to the management company had been put on there early on and we were not allowed to put on our review ! We will now try to work with the BBB for a more favorable outcome and share this story with other potential renters using any of the above mentioned parties, including VRBO. read more

The property manager used his undisclosed security system to spy on us (more on this below). The property owner threatened to evict us because we arrived with our service animal in training. Discrimination against someone with a legitimate service animal is illegal. He then proceeded, without our consent, to charge our credit card ($125) for the service animal. Charging anything additional for a service animal is against the law. My husband is an optometrist and he trains Seeing Eye dogs for the blind. We had to file a credit card charge back to recoup the illegal charge. VIDEO SURVEILLANCE Any form of surveillance at a rental is illegal when it is used for anything other than security issues. Simply put, the property manager used his security system to spy on us without any notice, and without our consent. He contacted us during our stay to tell us that he saw our service dog on video, and that "pets" were not allowed. We were shocked that he was using video/audio to spy on us. This was not a matter of security at all; and all members of our party feel grossly violated. We are afraid of what footage of our children may be out there in the world now (which includes our teenage son and daughter, and younger children). We have a very poor opinion of the property manager's ethics and knowledge of rental laws. We feel this opinion is warranted given the circumstances. As you can tell we are very upset; but, we are a very reasonable and understanding family. If you don't mind having your right to privacy abused, and/or discrimination against disability laws, the home itself was nice.  We planned on spending significantly more time at the home, but we just did not feel comfortable or safe living in the space provided. VRBO ghosted us, and would not even give us replies. Due to their lack of response, we are in contact with the Internet service provider, the security system provider, and local law enforcement. We attempted to contact the homeowner, but they will not reply either. All of this has been a tremendous amount of homework that we did not anticipate with renting a home for a few days. Because this company manages more than this home, I am fearful that the above practices are more than likely occurring at all of the homes they manage. This is the only negative review we have ever had to leave for a vacation rental. UPDATE: the property manager states that the above surveillance claims are unfounded. Luckily, we have his admission of guilt in writing. Again, a poor display of ethics: 6/15/21 email from Property manager: "The camera was installed by the owners a few weeks ago after an issue at the home. It was an oversight on our part to not update the listing at the time." This company has set a precedent that crime is allowed (federal and local cybercrime, disability discrimination), customer safety is not a priority, and punishment for crime is nonexistent. They do not care about your rights to privacy, nor do they care about how you feel when they violate you. They are in direct violation of their own policies. Disgusting. read more

My family arrived at "The Artist's House" (https://www.vrbo.com/408060) in Kissimmee, Florida with great anticipation for our 13 day rental, walked in, and immediately found live and dead roaches in the house (under the master bed, in the dining area, in the living room, under the sink, in the cabinets; as well as significant amounts of roach droppings within the cabinets, silverware drawers, pots&pans, etc). I have photos. We immediately contacted the owner and the property management company who sent over an exterminator. The exterminator sprayed, said it would take from 1-3 days for the pesticide to take effect, and advised that he will be contacting the property management to make a return visit to spray again because it was so bad. We found more roaches moving about during the night on the kitchen countertop. Impossible for this infestation to be a surprise to owner or management because we have photos of 5+ roach baits in plain view on the kitchen floor and one that was ON the kitchen counter next to the coffee maker. Gross. And there were two empty cans of roach spray under the infested sink. The next morning, we vacated the house, we provided photos via VRBO's message board, and we asked for the owner to cancel our contract and have our rental refunded. The owner agreed to do both, in writing, via VRBO message board. VRBO Customer Service called me to say don't worry and they'll work with the owner to refund my money. Then a week went by. Then the owner posted on VRBO that there were "a few cockroaches in one side of the kitchen and nowhere else in the house", that they sent "a pest control guy and not an exterminator" to do a treatment, and that this was not an infestation. She refunded me ONE night's rent (out of the 13!) and ignored my pleas to refund the remainder of our rental. Shame on this greedy owner for trying to keep my $3,300, and shame on the property management company for a half-ass job of pest control. Anything to keep the money coming in, right?! After three weeks of me calling VRBO every other day and having them say that my refund request case is "with the Billing department" and no update is available, VRBO called me. They refunded me their service fee of $346.00, advised me that they do not control the balance of the funds to refund me directly and that they cannot force the Owner to refund me, and they recommended I contact my credit card company to file a charge back claim to refund of the remainder of my payment. I did, and my credit card sided with me. This is an insane amount of trouble for having stayed one night in a roach house. It took a long time for VRBO to try to help, but at least they tried. SHAME ON THIS GREEDY PROPERTY OWNER. Don't put full trust in property reviews as VRBO did not publish mine (same exact objective language used above). read more

"I had a very disappointing experience with VRBO and the host, Careen Santos. I booked a vacation rental property for my mother's surprise 60th birthday celebration on February 12th, which was fully paid for. Before confirming my reservation, the host Careen Santos asked me what the reason for my stay was and the age of every person staying at her home. After 24 hours, the reservation was confirmed. Over six weeks later on May 30th, I received a message from the host stating that she would like me to cancel the reservation because the price I reserved the property under was not accurate. I immediately contacted VRBO to explain the situation, as family members were flying in for the celebration. VRBO informed me that it was the host's responsibility to ensure the accurate pricing was listed and that the host had the right to cancel the reservation or increase the price at any point in time. I was shocked that someone could increase the price six weeks after the reservation was confirmed just because they realized they had listed the price inaccurately. VRBO also informed me that they would not cover the difference, and the host would be penalized for poor business practices if they did not honor the reservation or at least discount the difference. I was disappointed with the lack of customer service and care from both VRBO and the host. Despite multiple attempts to speak with management on more than five separate occasions, I was told that my case would be elevated, and I would receive a call. However, there has been no resolution to date. The host, Careen Santos, currently has her property listed at $497 per night. It is clear that she canceled my reservation so she could make a few hundred dollars more over a three-night stay. I am disgusted with how Careen Santos and VRBO handled this situation. It is evident that they do not care about their customers or their reservations. I will never book with VRBO again, and I caution others to be careful when booking with this host or this company. If you are looking for a vacation rental, there are plenty of other options available that value their customers and their reservations." read more

Last April (April 22nd 2020) I went online and booked a nice Oregon beach house for my family to get away from the crazy COVID chaos. VRBO accepted my payment and confirmed my booking for May 2020. They told me I would get an email confirmation from Evolve Vacation Rentals. We were excited to get out of Portland and go somewhere to enjoy ourselves while the Covid tyrannical lockdowns took place by our idiot Governor Kate Brown were in place. Little did we know, she shut down all vacation rentals as well. A little while after, I received a cancellation notice from Evolve Vacation Rentals and instead of crediting my money back, both VRBP kept their $43 service fee and Evolve Vacation rentals kept the other $409. In the email it said they issued a credit that I could use on a later date. Being a normal understanding human, I had no idea that Kate Brown would lock the whole state down for a year!!! Well, I decided that I wanted my money back this month and we were going to just go to Arizona where there isn't the restrictions like Oregon. Evolve and VRBO were unwilling to refund my money even though I basically loaned them money for about a year! The one representative did slip up and say that they could call the home owner and see if they would be willing to refund my money but VRBO and Evolve would not. I do not agree with this and I think is us completely unacceptable. I have disputed this charge with American Express and will definitely take them to court if this is not resolved. This is not good business and I will never use VRBO or Evolve Vacation Rentals ever again in the future. Do not be scammed. They will accept our money but there is no guarantee they will not immediately cancel your reservation, keep your money and issue you a useless credit. read more

READ THIS!!!!!! Do not use VRBO!! STEPHANIE WHITMORE Is hands down one of the most immature, unprofessional, and simply one of the most disrespectful property managers I have ever dealt with in the past 7 years this dealing with discrimination to me and my family. We had our family member finally come back from serving our country to celebrate with him and his family flying in to see him. She had neighbors take pictures of us coming in invading our privacy taking notes of us and discriminating us as soon as we arrived. Most of my family are people of color and having these neighbors continued to watch us and doing everything in their power to kick us out of the place without violating a single rule made us angry and ultimately feel that we are some sort of threat to the neighborhood!! Stephanie Whitmore stated "I will give you a full refund just please leave I can't look bad to the neighbors" this is what set us off! I have a total of 5 of us who confirm and are witnesses to what Stephanie Whitmore has done and said to us. The hundreds of dollars we had to pay for hotels after being threatened to leave the premises or cops would be called I am telling you NEVER RENT WITH Stephanie Whitmore!! She even kept the money for the place after staying for 2 hours against VRBO's rules and only sent half back stating "you violated some sort of policy I'm refunding half out of kindness. I don't have the money to pay you you're going to have to deal with Vrbo" NEVER RENT WITH STEPHANIE WHITMORE AND FEEL THE DISCRIMINATION AND UTTER HUMILIATION THAT WE FELT!! She should be fired this place should not be listed!! Stand up with us during these times of discrimination and utter disappointment we went through! read more

Palm Springs - Exact same horrible nightmare as other postings. They canceled on us less then 36 hours before. This after hours of document filling out (with the City of Palm Springs and with Vacation Palm Springs) Everything turned in - paid in full - then notified by VBRO at 9:00 PM that we were canceled. Then they tried to up sell me another property but for more money (bait and switch) At Vacation Palm Springs (they have about 4-5 different phone numbers) No one answers the phone - then another company pops up (I guess a parent company) booking was for June 12- 15. Someone did finally call me back - after begging them to send me something in written form stating they were canceling us (didn't want them claiming "no show") I at least received an email. The anxiety, panic, helplessness and ruined vacation- the disappointment of my grown children who were flying in and had requested PTO from their work. I'm still battling - hoping I will get my money back - VBRO said their portion of the refund would take 4-6 weeks. (OMG) Do you know what would happen to me if I canceled this last minute on them? Yep - large percentage penalty would happen. When its them cancelling - nothing - for anything they ruined (food & other items already purchased and packed for the trip) no compensation for anything - they flat out don't care - it's a scam and I'm still panicking that I won't see my $2,000 refunded. FYI - I've never ever written a review - however this was so criminal that I just had to warn others. Who in the City Palm Springs or the California Realtor's board polices this company? There are so many victims with the same story on the internet! WOW read more

My friends and I booked a very special trip on VRBO. We booked it early March, within 30 days. We were excited to find this beautiful property listed and opted to not get insurance 1) we had no intentions of cancelling and 2) unless we cancelled the day we bought, we were out the money either way. Then about two weeks later, COVID-19 news became overwhelming. Our kids were asked to stay home and there was a panic worldwide. Sadly, we cancelled our flights and reach out to the property to cancel in light of the tragic events. Their response was that the Encinitas area wasn't heavily impacted and since we did not get insurance and are inside the 30 day cancellation policy, they can't refund us the money. After explaining our situation, they denied us a refund. Less than a week later we received an email stating due to current events, they were crediting 50% of our trip on the account to use later. Fifty percent of our hard earned money, gone, just like that. During a worldwide crisis where people, including some of the ladies I was traveling with, lost their jobs, are confined to their homes, losing loved ones, they kept 50% of our money. We have decided to cut our losses but felt the need to warn people about this company! Out of pure principle, we will never use that credit and will never, ever book with this company. I was a first time VRBO customer and last. If they can't manage the type of people posting on their site than they don't deserve my business. We would have been happy for a cancellation and credit to use at a later date. Instead they kept 50% of our money in the blink of an eye. Shameful! read more

Absolutely terrible experience with Vrbo. I booked a reservation that had the option to cancel for a 100% refund within a certain date. I canceled within this date, it submitted as a "Property request change" with the request being to cancel and it even made me submit to the owner why I was requesting to cancel. The owner left it pending so I would lose out on my 100% refund. When I reached out to Vrbo they refused to honor this as well, telling me because I submitted as a "request to change to cancellation" instead of hitting a different "cancellation" button, they wouldn't honor their own rules. This is ridiculous when I have screen shots and emails proving I had requested to cancel. Vrbo is screwing me over based solely on nitpicky details. They shouldn't offer two ways to cancel and then only allow one. You can tell they're just trying to do anything to keep extra money at the traveler's expense. Also, when I resubmitted for at least a partial refund, they tried to cut me out of almost $200 and not give me my full partial refund - I had to submit a case with them AGAIN and ask for the full amount of the partial refund to be given to me. They're really sneaky and untrustworthy. I shouldn't have been surprised when I looked up the reviews online and they were all negative. They are underhanded and don't know how to treat people. read more

I booked a house in Florida from VRBO and you know how they state they are always there for you - IT IS NOT TRUE! We were only there for 4 days, I was in constant contact with the owner, with issues - NOT how I wanted to spend my vacation! Get back, go onto VRBO to Stay Neighborly to complete a complaint form, not even 24 hours later I get an email saying my complaint was closed - no explanation - nothing - AND over three weeks later, my bad rating was mysteriously deleted - pretty sure they claim that can NEVER happen. SO I decided to call customer service - all I was asking for was a $200 refund on an over $2000 rental because of all of the things that were not disclosed and all the extra money we had to put out for things they said they provided and did not - know what customer service told me?? Nope cannot help you because you are already home - so they would rather me spend my whole vacation on the phone and not being with my family - never will they get my money again....We always book here for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, vacations - it really is a shame. read more

I have been on VRBO since 1995. VRBO has turned into the worst possible platform to put vacation rentals on due to the greed and incompetence of the people that bought the company and that run the company now. Expedia is a greedy company that. In the early days of the Internet tried to take over travel agency businesses and failed. They strive to monopolize whatever they get into and then rip everybody off. I believe they are kiting money because of how they run their business and run it into the ground. Recently, I had a guest cancel, and VRBO has been unable to do the refund or the cancellation for the past five days. I believe the RPO is floating money to cover for their failing business due to their idiotic and deceitful business practices. Whatever they did their website has disrupted everything. This is the worst company I deal with in my life and have ever. It really hurts me to say that because they have a monopoly on the vacation rentals in it's what I do for a living VRBO sucks b***s.... read more

We rented an apartment in Paris for a week. When we got there we were astonished to find out that there had been no mention in the description that it was a 5 floor walk up on stairs so narrow and steep that it was challenging and dangerous to walk up . It was impossible to to get our luggage past the second floor . There were no handrails and for anyone to think this was acceptable is has never been there. We contacted Vrb immediately and there response was we will" look into it". I took a video of us trying to walk up( I am athletic) and sent it to them. We have sent several follow up e mails but haven't heard back which is the reason for this review. We are out almost $3,000 , had to find a hotel for the week. I understand that not everything is under there control but their lack of response to this is not acceptable. Fortunately the rest of our trip was fantastic and We are in a position that getting ripped off doesn't have a big impact. read more

Atrocious customer service. You can be 100% guaranteed a ruined trip and long hold times if you happen to have the misfortune of an owner cancelling your booking last minute. I had planned an 11 day stay and prepaid in full but 4 days prior to arrival the host cancels because the house is pending sale. Almost impossible to reach a live person to rebook while understandably in crisis mode. Then to add insult to injury there is no financial compensation for any money you are out of pocket on non-refundable trip related incidentals. Who is going to trust a company that just left you vacation homeless? NOTE THAT VRBO POLICY IS THAT AN OWNER CAN CANCEL AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON. They have zero sympathy for your plight. Its Russian Roulette if your place will be available by the time your trip rolls around. AirBnb at least dings the owner financially so they are discouraged from cancelling. read more

Stranded for Family Reunion: Do not use Resort Rental Pros or VRBO - They are both unreliable and unprofessional. Resort Rental Pros managed a property through VRBO that we booked for a vacation in North Myrtle Beach for a family reunion 2.5 months ahead of time. We checked in with the rental company a few times and they said all was well. Less than 3 days prior to our vacation, they reported that they couldn't locate the host and had nothing to offer us. They have not yet refunded us our money and our vacation plans are a mess. Our only choice is to cut our vacation time in half and to pay twice as much at a hotel. Our other bad experience with VRBO was with Vacay Home Connect. They misrepresented a property, listing it as on a private beach, with an intracoastal view. It was on a canal off the intracoastal and a 10 minute drive to the beach. read more

Be aware that hosts can cancel your stay at any time, with no compensation or reparations given to renters. Even if you receive a booking confirmation, the host can cancel on you for any reason. DO NOT book the rest of your trip with the comfort in knowing that you will have a place to stay. This happened to us with a beach house in Manasquan - the reservation was confirmed, we made our plans, and then the host canceled it, saying that we did not meet the minimum number of nights and there would be zero flexibility (even though the error was on their part). There were no properties left in the area to book, and we had to redo our entire vacation plan. This was our first time booking with VRBO and we were very unhappy with the experience. read more

VRBO is nothing but a face for fraudulent transactions. They allow owners to be listed as a PREMIER PARTENER and how they offer a "Book with confidence GURANTEE". Do not fall for it. If a property has a no refund policy, it doesn't matter about the contract you sign, any of the emails you exchange through the site, they owner's can change a policy or a contract at any time no matter what and then NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY. VRBO will do nothing about it. They will literally only read from their manual and say, "please refer to the property's refund policy". They will try to contact the owner, but if the owner never responds they wash their hands of it. read more

I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the service provided during our recent reservation. The booking was unexpectedly canceled on the day of arrival, leaving us without accommodations. When we attempted to resolve the issue, the host was unresponsive and unwilling to assist. Additionally, our calls were ignored unless we used a new number, which is unacceptable customer service practice. This experience has led us to decide that we will no longer use your services for personal or company purposes. A business that does not prioritize customer care and well-being is not one we can support. read more

What a waste of time and money. This company is wildly under regulated and someone needs to bring up a class action lawsuit for the amount of issues that arise when booking with VRBO. False advertisement, mental distress, financial distress, breaking legal binding contracts, putting customers in harms way, etc... We have been harassed out of our VRBO by the owners and have spoken with the cops in the area to see what legal actions we can take against the owner... where was VRBO in this? No where to be found. I would not recommend booking through them. Listen to the review warnings!! read more

Don't use Vrbo - ever. They are allowing hosts to participate in theft by keeping full payments for stays the government will not allow us to make because of this global pandemic. Not only are they not intervening and trying to negotiate reasonable outcomes in the forms of partial refunds and/or future credits - they're ghosting. No contact from Vrbo or any host. It's a scam. We are out $1,621. Other home share company Air B&B came right out with a promise to refund 100% for COVID-19 related cancellations. Vrbo should be ashamed. read more

During a worldwide pandemic instead of being helpful and understanding vrbo is using it to exploit people by not giving refunds for people FOLLOWING the social distancing rule. As a nurse it disgusts me to see the lack of compassion and understanding by this company. Their much wiser competition Airbnb is giving refunds, so props to them!! Do your part, vrbo, and give refunds so people can follow the rules. I'd give you zero stars but unfortunately that's not allowed. So disappointed. read more
