Hi, my name is Shannon, and I have a needle phobia. No one ever took it seriously when I was a kid, so I didn't take it seriously as an adult...until I became pregnant and couldn't avoid it anymore. I had spoken to Stephanie on the phone and she seemed a good fit. I know hypnosis works and had high hopes for my smoking cessation to be finalized with her. It initially went well, but I could tell during the hypnosis part of the session that she was distracted. It seemed like she was reading her email or something like that. The hypnosis was very disjointed, the blinds were cracked open and the room too bright. Part of my brain was trying to figure out what was going on rather than focussing in on what I was there for. It didn't feel right. Then the session was over and I felt disoriented, and she mentioned something about circling the car once before I got in to drive, and she had the door open. I was grabbing one of my business cards to give her when she said something along the lines of we can't do this while pretty much shoving me out the door. Wow - the bum's rush. It was a waste of my very hard earned money, and incredibly rude. I will be starting all over again and I will choose very, very carefully next time. I cannot put into words how incredibly grateful I am for Stephanie. I had been a moderate daily smoker for almost 20 years. I tried multiple quitting methods including "The Easy Way", nicotine gum and going cold turkey but nothing clicked. I had been deathly afraid of needles, including shots or blood being taken, for as long as I could remember. It's safe to say that I had a complete phobia of needles. I had only had my blood taken twice in my entire life, and both times I ended up fainting, and not being able to be woken up. Once my husband and I started talking about trying for a baby, I knew that I would have to address this fear. I wasn't sure what to do, but having been a dedicated meditater for the last several years, I decided to try hypnotherapy. I began the journey by searching for a hypnotherapist in my area, and luckily came across Stephanie through Yelp. After some additional research, I reached out and quickly scheduled my first session. From the moment I met Stephanie, I immediately felt comfortable with her, and could tell she was passionate about her specialty. The first time we met she spent a long time just listening to me, and asking questions about why I was pursuing therapy, and what I was trying to accomplish. I am happy to say that after only a few sessions I was able to conquer my fear! Luckily, a few weeks later, I found out I was pregnant. I scheduled another session about a week before my 12 week doctors appointment when I knew I would have to give my first blood for prenatal testing. I am delighted to report that I was not only successful at giving blood on the first attempt, but I was extremely calm through the entire procedure. My husband couldn't believe the change in my demeanor, as he had gone with me several times in the past to attempt to get my blood taken. One time during the deep relaxation session, she asked if I felt any discomfort in any part of my body. I told her I felt a knot in my stomach caused by anger and unfairness in my work-place. After the session, I literally felt the knot had disappeared. She also taught me techniques to practice daily for self-hypnosis between and after the sessions. I had total of 4 sessions with Stephanie and had emailed her between sessions to clear things up. I am still a working progress, but do feel more calm, content and hopeful.
