They will even put hot fried chicken from their hot food area. My personal favorite is: getting a loaf of sourdough from the bread section and bringing it to the sandwich area and asking them to put, garlic sauce, lettuce, tomato, pepper jack cheese, pepperchinis, cucumbers, fried chicken, olive spread and pickles. read more

I was as in the Express Line with a single item and the person in front of me had at least 20 items (his bill came to over $95). I blame the shopper because he feels rules/common courtesy don't apply to him. I blame Vons because the checker should have in at least alerted the shopper that he was in an express line and explained the protocol for being in an "Express" line for his future reference. (Although I would really like to have seen her make the shopper exit the line and proceed to a normal line). The checker did and said, nothing... she simply rung up the guy's groceries and even bagged his groceries, further eroding the benefit of the "Express" line. I wonder if she must have wondered why I had a dark face when it was my turn and I was asked how my day was going. Oh, and by the way, there were about 5 people behind me. Question for Vons in Westlake Village if you bother to read these: 1) The sign just says "Express". That can be interpreted many different ways. To some people that is 10 or less, to some maybe 15 or less. Could please change the sign with a number of items? 2) Being in the year 2019, how come there isn't a single self checkout stand in the place? I'm already a Vons shopper and do most of my grocery shopping at vons. This location is even nicer than our regular location in camarillo. It seems a little smaller, and the layout is different. However, it did look cleaner and more organized. Still filled with the same great deals and friendly staff. Their floral department is kind of pricey, but the arrangements are still very beautiful. This location is close to work and I definitely will be back. They have great deals in the bakery $5 Fridays! read more

Well - I scanned some of the other reviews to measure their potential for being legitimate... as I found this VON's rating to be highly suspect in being so average? Reading the negative reviews leaves me in disbelief! I live just down the street and have been in and out of this VON's steady for 15 years... steady meaning for 15 years straight I've been a regular in ALL of the grocery stores and businesses around Westlake Village. I'm not out of town... I am not young and inclined to petty gripes. Nor am I old and infirm or absent minded about things going on around me. I've seen the staff in ALL departments of this VON's consistently act with courtesy and professionalism. Frankly, I can't recall a single occasion of discord or odd behavior from the staff. Now this is not to say I haven't seen a CUSTOMER throw a fit. I had a lady go a bit nuts and I witnessed the whole thing. It had everything to do with HER having some kind of personal melt down. The checker and bagger were polite, professional and efficient - the whole while this customer had her arrogant fit? Now this example has to be taken on your faith. I am NOT saying anyone else posting less then ideal remarks or ratings was having an abnormal day or personal melt down. No, not at all is that my claim. I will say that my history with this particular store is EXTENSIVE and lengthy. Any in my very humble opinion they deserve much better consideration. In fact all the local stores do similarly. Now - to demonstrate balance in my rendering an opinion... I'll be critical of their store condition. I have a little gripe in that I can't always get Foccia rolls in the mid morning. It takes the bakery staff a while to get to them and that is probably it is a low demand item. Also, I'd like a bigger selection of magazines for those rare occasions when I have to wait for my wife to finish her shopping and we can go. But these gripes have no place in influencing the star ratings - or so I think... Can someone tell me how a grocery store closes before midnight ??? Just like everything in this very "family" oriented hood of mine, this supposed Super Market closes early. So when you are done leaving a bar or club and want to have afterhours, you can't purchas anything to take home with you anywhere within a 5 mile vicinty from my house, because it just doesn't exist. No wonder this town will never grow from it's stagnancy. Express line accepts people with cart fulls of groceries. No one up front to ever move lines along. Managers appear non existent.

I have not had any bad experiences here. Most times the lines are not bad and there is sufficient lanes open. In my opinion the prices at Vons are better than the other chain stores. Except the produce. Good weekly sales and Just For You is a benefit to saving money. This Vons is usually well stocked and neat. This Vons has a Wells Fargo ATM inside. read more

After getting some ham at the deli , I noticed at the register that they did not apply the club card price that was showing on the window. The cashier asked the supervisor to confirm the price. The supervisor went to the deli and came back to the register saying the ham was not on sale. I paid full price and went back to the deli to show the supervisor (Luis) that the ham was indeed on sale (there were two places where the ham price was displayed; in one of them it was showing regular price, the other was showing the sale price -- they had forgotten to remove the tag). Instead of apologizing for their mistake, he argued with me that he was right about the price and said "too bad" when I told him I would not shop there anymore. Terrible terrible customer service. It's unfortunate they don't care about my business. With other options in the area, bad economy and stores closing, they should treat their customers better, AND apologize when they make mistakes. read more

0 stars, you guys. 0 stars. They have 8 registers (I counted as I stood there holding my items and started to lose feeling in my arms) and only 2-4 are open routinely. No self-checkout. Doesn't matter if you come morning, afternoon or evening- you'll be waiting at least 20 minutes in line. Lines are so long they block the aisles and people have trouble moving their carts around. Doesn't matter if you have 1 or 20 items, you will be waiting a long time because even the "10 Items of Less" line is always reaching down towards the floral department. I don't know if they're understaffed or what, but it's ridiculous. Vons corporate needs to get on this. Prepare to spend at least 20-30 minutes waiting in line on a "good" day. The staff is friendly- that's about the only thing this store has going for it. The fact that they sell food here *would* be a pro, but having to block out your schedule for the rest of the day to stand in line to BUY said food negates that benefit, in my opinion. read more

This is our favorite grocery store to come to! We used to live right down the street but moved a few miles away and still come to this store (going on 10 years now!). They always offer exceptional service. The checkers are patient (we have seen them deal with some...not so nice people) and kind. Haven't had any issues with things not being in stock. I really like my local Vons. I like the service especially. The checkers are friendly, easy going and efficient. I like that I can get all the basics and the prices are decent. I've been shopping here for years and it's a very friendly, well run place. I am afraid I may have to stop shopping at ANY VONS though because I'm tired of constantly being asked to give to charity. I have my own list of charities I give to. I'm not a fan of being asked to give to Vons favorite choices every single time I'm in. And I'm in a few times a week. That over 150 begging entreaties from Vons every year, not counting all the people standing out front asking me to buy everything from overpriced popcorn to american flag pins. Vons, I just want to shop. I put up with the candy at the check out and the Capn' Crunch at child eye level. I put up with and even capitalize on the the roasted chicken sale each evening. But please Vons, let me shop without the cashiers harassing me. Let me enjoy your great employees without making them advertisers for your causes. I am pretty close to leaving this friendly store I grew up with because of this stupid policy of squeezing every last wandering dime out of me as I leave. This was truly a remarkable experience today... So, I am still learning this Von's but until earlier today the jury was still out. I have had decent experiences with the Meat department, the really tall guy is quite helpful, and the prices are reasonable. All things considered, I have no problem keeping them in the grocery shopping rotation (I have a lot of time off, I handle this at home) because occasionally they sneak a great value in and give me a reason to spend money here. Then I met Cynthia... Let it be known, I am in a great mood. I am buying some cube steak, looking forward to a cheap, easy and delicious Chicken Fried Steak dinner. I have a few other items but apparently the one package of cube steak won't scan. Three separate times Cynthia is hitting it against counter on the end... it would be way too difficult to use the other scanner, or God forbid type in a code, and looks at me, smiles and says, "It won't scan". No effin-esse! Stop beating the living hell out of my dinner! I don't really care that the cube steak will probably survive, don't assault my food!! I gently reply, "Apparently not, hopefully it is still steak when you get done with it". Begin the banter: Cynthia, "It won't hurt it, its really quite hilarious that it won't scan". Me, "Not really". Finally, Cynthia, looking dead in my eyes with the biggest fake smile that I have seen in a while in L.A... "Really!" OK, cool... she is worthless, and union so she is not going anywhere. I leave, rather annoyed and while I am putting groceries in the trunk the guy behind me actually stops to relay how "blown away" he was by my service. I dwell on this for a bit and decide to call Ray, the store manager. Lets just say that I know exactly who trained Cynthia. Anyway, won't be back. Albertsons is dead on with service. I would recommend giving them a shot looonnnggg before getting your meat beat by Cynthia and company. read more

We used to shop at Von's for our food about 90% of the time. During the grocery strike of several years ago we, like many others, went to Gelson's to support the strikers, even though we were spending at least 20% more than necessary. After the strike things just got worse. The staff has no sense how to behave toward their customers--they spend more time chatting to each other than to just doing their job. The produce often spoils within one day, or never gets ripe. The prices on produce, especially fruit, is often considerably higher than one can get at Costco--when it comes to blueberries, it's often three times as much. About a year ago, I complained to the manager about all these concerns, including the fact that I could never find anyone in the produce section to ask questions, and his answer was: "you're right. Would you like a job here?" He told me he can't hold on to employees now that they only pay minimum wage for new hires, and that he has so few people that he has to pull people out of produce to serve as checkers. The only positive thing about this chain: they hire people with mental disabilities, which is very admirable. We now do about 10% of our shopping at Von's, dividing the other 90% between Albertson's, Gelson's (when we need fruit and vegetables), Fresh and Easy, and Costco. If Von's ever goes under, they have only themselves to blame. read more

This store is in sad need of an overhaul. Ever since the grocery workers' strike a few years ago, this Vons has been on a steady decline. More often than not, there are several items on my list that I can't find on the shelves. Talking with the manager doesn't help. Lane, the manager, seems to be in the wrong business. He's too busy complaining loudly about the registers or the employees. I always check the dates on everything on the shelves because they are often outdated. Really sad. Ralphs on Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Albertsons on Lindero are far and away better stores, for both service and selection. read more

I have purchased turkey here that was rancid. It was Von's turkey not a brand. Also for the last two weeks on $5.00 Friday's I have purchased 1 lb. of the meat on sale and was over charged each time. I quit shopping at this Vons location, even though its the closest grocery store to my house. The produce is often spoiled. The food is usually expired - I've gotten home only to realize that the soy sausage I bought expired a month ago. The yogurt and even the canned sodas are often expired. Skip this place and go to Sprouts in the same complex. It's a Westlake phenomonon but SUV Barbie never really looks at the price of groceries and this defines the purchasing demographic in this area. Although Vons has some things on sale at times, it's mostly overpriced mediocre processed food. Produce is terribly expensive and not high quality. Wine is not the price on the big price sign unless you buy six bottles. There is always a guilt trip about donating to some cause (I give at the office, truly---they match it two to one) and panhandlers frequent the front doors. I feel sorry for the people who work there. As chain supermarkets go, the Ralphs across the freeway is an all around better deal. read more

I had my groceries checked out by the laziest cashier ever! As she was scanning my items she just started throwing my stuff down the end of the counter, squishing my hot dog buns in the process. I just ignored it and continued to pay for my things. Once I was done paying, my groceries were still at the end of the counter waiting to be bagged. The cashier looked at me like and continued to help the next costumer. I may as well use a self checkout at Walmart because she was useless. I always order Vons groceries online to be delivered to my home at the time of my choice. And I am always very well pleased. Ordering online allows me to keep to a strict budget and have all the organic products i want, no searching the shelves or bins. I have always been pleased with the quality of produce chosen for me, it seems they go out of their way to never send any bad stuff. There is a free item each week, all coupons are applied in the Just4U section, it keeps track of what I purchase most and offers me deals, plus two for one deals, and online deals. The customer service from this place is unreal. The management here is absolutely rude. I wanted to get Ice for a party so I was grabbing 12 bags from the machine. The cashier yelled across 8 check out stands that I had to pay first which is totally fine but to yell and embarrass me was uncalled for. I was grabbing the ice because there wasn't much left and I wanted to get what I needed. Then when I was heading to the check out line the manager who is always there (never working) walks over and says I can't have that much ice.. Didn't know there was a limit.. oh wait there's not.. This Vons is our go to for staples, paper goods, pantry items etc. I can say the seafood selection has really imporved in the last six months. Great quality shrimp and irresistable prices. The produce is usually in good shape and plentiful, especially piece items like apples, citrus, and melons. One thing I always look for in a store is the checkers. They are the lasting impression you take with you when you leave. Big compliments for Cindy who is so friendly and bubbly. I will wait in a longer line if she is checking. Thanks Vons. read more
