Ordering food

Really cool spot inside an Indian grocery store, serving up vegetarian Indian dishes. There's a good variety of options, and for the lunch combos, you get to choose from different breads--both fried and baked--to go with your curries/vegetables. They also include rice, pickles, and other sides like samosas if you go for a larger combo. Friendly people and great food.

Food, potato dish in hot case

Whenever I'm in the Thousand Oaks area and the timing is right, I like to stop by Namaste Spiceland. Their hot food is what attracts me and if you go at 9:00 am when they open, the food is not ready and you can see being prepared in the kitchen. It all comes out around 11 AM so you know it's fresh, there's a different menu every day and even though they are priced high, their selections have intense flavor, In addition, there is texture, a good mix of a variety of Indian spices, distinctive for each dish and a limited but attractive menu. All the food is vegetarian, but it is prepared daily, every morning. I started with the appetizer of aloo tiki, and then one medhu vada. The first with the two chutneys, the tamarind and the mint, and the second with the coconut chutney. I'd say the vada with coconut chutney was my favorite appetizer. As a carryout, I took the two item combo where I had garbanzo beans and lentils with rice. It comes with raita , and instead of pickle, I asked for chopped red onions. For the bread I chose the chapati, which turned out to be rubbery by the time I ate it (after 2 hours) and instead of plain rice, I had the coconut rice which was flavorful, but not soaking in coconut fragrance. That's the way I like it. This is a good place to visit if you're in the mood for wholesome vegetarian north Indian and south Indian food, to dine in, or to go.

Vada Pao

We tried their pav bhaji and vada pav Enjoyed both the items. Service was prompt. The my gave 3 pavs so didn't need to ask for more with the pav bhaji

This was my first time at Namaste, and I was really impressed by the large menu, selection in the grocery store section, and the friendly staff. I had my heart set on trying dosa, since I had heard that they were delicious. The size of the dosa was massive, and it came with 2 spicy sauces and a side of lentil soup. The dosa is filled with a spicy potato mixture. Very flavorful with a crispy yet soft texture. It's like a huge rolled crepe. I ended up taking half of it home since it is very filling. At $9, it was also a great value! I also ordered a paneer curry to take home- very delicious. What's cool is that they offer samples from their hot bar. The menu also has a section of South Indian dishes. I'm not knowledgeable about the nuances of Indian cuisine, but I am excited to come back and try more things!

Spring dosa

Delicious Southern Indian food and a local gem! I have been searching for a place for good and authentic dosa and I was so glad to have them in Namaste Spiceland! Located on Thousand Oaks Boulevard near Armstrong Garden, this eatery is both a grocery store and a restaurant. Parking is ample on street and in the parking lot outside the eatery. This eatery offers a good selection of dosa and the serving size is very generous. I had the spring dosa, which was like a wrapped Indian pancake with tomatoes and green peppers inside. The dosa also came with a side of lentil soup, but I found it slightly too salty. The serving size was so generous that you could have split the dosa into two meals. The eatery is also a grocery store and it carries a large selection of ethnic Indian food. Coming from an Asian culture, I love the availability of such a rich selection of varieties of rice. I also found a good selection of British snacks, which is hard to find in most US supermarkets. Overall, this is a must-try eatery. This has become my go-to place for good authentic dosa!

This "Ready to serve food" restaurant is located inside of market with plenty of indoor and outdoor sitting. I got the two veggies plate combo with garlic naan. I loved their naan. It was extremely delicious. When you walk into the store they will take your order and have you pay after you finish eating if you choose to eat their. At the end of my meal I got one of their ice creams and my total was very reasonable considering everything I ate. I can't really say much on service but everyone was nice.

This Indian grocery store, coupled with a restaurant, provides a unique and delightful experience. The extensive selection of authentic products makes it a haven for cooking enthusiasts. The convenience of grabbing a meal at the attached restaurant adds to the overall appeal, offering a taste of Indian flavors beyond the ingredients aisle. The staff is accommodating, creating a seamless transition between shopping and dining. A great spot for those looking to immerse themselves in a complete Indian culinary journey. This place stands out for its exceptional customer service, thanks to an owner who goes above and beyond. Their dedication to customer satisfaction creates a welcoming atmosphere. Whether it's personalized recommendations, special accommodations, or a genuine commitment to ensuring every patron leaves happy, the owner's efforts truly elevate the overall experience. Choosing this place for our wedding catering was a fantastic decision. The food surpassed expectations, earning praises from all our guests. The impeccable service, coupled with top-notch culinary delights, made our special day even more memorable. From the initial planning to the flawless execution, the team ensured everything was perfect. Highly recommend for anyone seeking exceptional food and service for their special events. Once again thank you so much Kapil jee!

The vegan options were plentiful -- and more importantly, they were exceptional. The flavors were bold and intentional, layered in a way that reminds you why you fell in love with Indian cuisine in the first place. I say this with fresh context: we've recently tried a couple of other Indian restaurants in the area, hoping to find something worth revisiting. One served a Dal so overspiced it was nearly inedible. Another offered a Tikka Masala so bland it barely registered. Neither experience was terrible -- but both served as a reminder of just how high Karma's bar actually is. In all my years coming here, I have never once been disappointed. Not once. The kitchen cooks with something that's hard to put into words -- a care and intentionality that comes through in every dish. You taste it. My 2014 review said the food was prepared with good heart and spirit, and that remains as true today as it was then. If you're vegan, or just someone who wants Indian food done right, this is your place. It always has been.

I hate when it's sweet or the chutney doesn't have a zing to it but OMG they hit it on the head. It was so savory and had so many spices, shoot the even put in onions and peppers. I'm so happy to have found this place in close proximity to my house and will be back atleast once a week! Oh and let's not forget the inside of the place, it was very clean and quiet just how I like it. The two gentleman there were very helpful and kind. All around 10/10 I WILL be back! Oh and for all of those saying it's expensive, if you compare to other restaurants in the area it's literally like a dollar difference. You pay for what you get, don't expect to go out to eat in california and not pay for it. Even if they are too expensive for you, it's simple just don't order from them. But don't go leaving a 1 star reviews, these people don't deserve nothing less than 4 stars. You can tell they put love and care into their restaurant.

Actually, Bikaner is a city in the northwestern state of Rajasthan, in India. It is a renowned multinational brand in that country. Other than India, this restaurant chain also has footprints in Dubai, Nepal, New Zealand, Canada, Bahrain, Singapore and Qatar. The Westlake outpost is situated in a strip mall. The inside is spacious, with simple elegant tables, each having their own menu. All restaurants should do so. One wall depicts the history and expansion of this brand. I stopped by for a snack and chose the Dahi Puri. Essentially, small crispy hollow shells (wheat or semolina) which are filled with a custom mix of potatoes, onions, chutneys (red and green) and yoghurt. What was unique here was, that there were shreds of beetroot on top and one pomegranate seed in the middle of each puri (you get 6 of them for $9.99). As such, a bite gives you a burst of flavors, both spicy and sweet, a cool degree of wetness, then crispness from the outer shell, and a blend of inner softness and medium textures from the ingredients. Overall, this menu item is my favorite snack at any Indian restaurant. But Bikanervala took it to another level. Easily, the best Dahi Puri I have had so far, both in color, presentation, taste and satisfaction. Wow.

I even called ahead and a woman confirmed all meats were halal, although I called three different numbers they have listed, two were out of service. When we got there, it wasn't busy, but there was no halal signage anywhere. Ordering is done through kiosks with instructions kiosks order only. We placed a large order (6 items + drinks) totaling $127.57 at 7:01 PM (Ticket #KK25). Confusion started immediately: -Had to ask if we grab our own drinks (yes... but not stated anywhere) -Friends from the masjid came in and the kiosk lost Wi-Fi while they were ordering -No staff guidance at all After about 30 minutes, we saw a customer return food because it was too spicy. That should've been our warning. When our food came, it was all in cheap takeout containers with paper plates and plastic utensils, it was difficult to pry the containers open, while trying not to get the curries on you, not what you expect dining in at that price. Food was very disappointing: -Butter Chicken didn't taste like butter chicken at all -Haleem was overly spicy and not the usual soupy consistency -Mutton Curry was extremely spicy, and my first bite was all fat, skimped on the meat -One dish had a boiled egg that was so salty it was inedible -No spice level options on the kiosk We were also missing our Tandoori Chicken. While waiting: -Our friends were missing items too -Another customer (Ticket #KK27) came in upset after waiting 45+ minutes with no food and asked for money back -Kitchen looked completely disorganized We finally got our missing item after nearly an hour. I told the server and got a simple "sorry." As someone who is Indian from the Caribbean, I can handle spice, but this was just unbalanced. Even the earlier customer complaining was right. No hospitality, no friendliness, poor food, and a chaotic system. I told my wife at that point I didn't even care if we threw everything away and left. First and last time.

The "Taste of Punjab", in Moorpark, was an over 20-mile one way trip for me from the SFV. If you…read morelike North Indian food, it is my opinion that the state of Punjab in India (and I have spent time there), provides food preparations that are a notch above the rest of its Indian state counterparts (e.g. Uttarkhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh). So I called the restaurant to fine tune. Their lunch buffet was only on Fridays. The spread would only contain 3 meat selections, all of them chicken (really, no variety?) and only 3 vegetable choices (really, is that all?) Then an appetizer, salad components and condiments. There would be rice and Naan too. A meager set of choices for a $15.99 buffet? Yet, the restaurant was enticing. Hence the pull, to taste their version, of Punjabi food. That sealed the deal for me and I was on my way to pay a visit, and eat. As expected, the choices were limited. There was chicken tikka, chicken tandoori and chicken curry. For vegetables, aloo bhegan (potatoes and eggplant), peas paneer (peas with sautéed Indian cheese cubes) and dahl (lentil curry). The Naan was not brought fresh table-side, but delivered to the hot case. Still, it was soft and wonderful, actually well executed, had good chew, cut into medium sized pieces. Rice came out in small portions in a bowl and was not dry (unlike other buffets). For appetizers, they had one choice, good sized samosas with a thin wrapping (also unlike other buffets) and a simple ,but very tasty and moist potato filling. They were truly fantastic (I had 4 of them, a first for me!). That too, came out, as needed. Like it should be. For me, this is also a sign of thoughtful food management, to provide just prepared items, to enhance freshness, cut down on wastage. On the condiment side though, there were disappointments. The tamarind chutney was watery and their mint chutney thick, and from a bottle. Not fresh. Raita was creamy, with body and wholesome. What was striking at the Taste of Punjab, was the unmistakable high quality and culinary prowess of the chef(s). Every dish oozed with freshness, aroma, rich flavor and an intoxicating blend of well married spices and taste. The three chicken dishes were tender, with soft meat having a perfect texture to satisfy. Overall, every selection on the buffet was unique because, it felt and tasted so different. High class, is the best way to describe it. I was really amazed and blown away. Was also pleased, that my relentless hunger, curiosity and the lengthy drive here to Moorpark, had borne sweet fruit. It was a reward. Definitely, a Punjabi lunch buffet to remember, for a very long time.
