Not all Vons are created equal. This one is superior. Like a dumbbell, I requested $60 back from the self checkout machine. I quickly scooped up my groceries and left, leaving my $60. That was at about 1:56 PM. It dawned on me at about 9 PM what I would like to call a rookie mistake, except I am a senior citizen. In any event, a super helpful and professional staff person whose initials are Patrice, took her time getting down all the details. A day later I got a call from Thomas, I believe the store Director telling me that they indeed looked through their video footage and retrieved my $60 and would hold it for me. It took me a few days to get back in because I am not local to Westlake. I had a great fortune to meet Patrice for the first time. It was only when I came in to pick up the cash that I realized that she was the same person who had helped me on the phone. There is a lot of really bad news in the press these days. But I must say, my heart lifted way beyond the value of 60 bucks by the human kindness and graciousness that Patrice, Thomas and Vons in general bestowed on me. This store is managed poorly and understaffed. Only come here if you have time to spare as you will be waiting in line for no less than 15 minutes. It is extremely rare that they have more than one checkout line open even during the busy hours. The staff will see the line with six people deep and do nothing about it. (Self checkout is not always an option) Thankfully there are other markets nearby because this store does not deserve my business. read more

Yes, I have been to several Vons supermarkets, but this time I was in Westlake and stopped by to pick up a short list of groceries. Guess what, I was blown away. The aisles are clear. There's a lot of space to walk. Every shelf was meticulously stocked and full. Nothing out of place, every item harmoniously in line. On top of that, every product in its category, polished, actually dust free and sparkling. I don't think I have seen this anywhere in any grocery store. And they have everything that a supermarket would have. Really exceptional. And outstanding service. The only negative is that it is far away from where I live :) Wow. read more

In our neighborhood, the joke is that this store is a SAD STORE. Unfortunately, it really is not a joke! We did see that the outside seems to be getting a bit of a facelift, but the inside atmosphere is more of a problem. We keep hoping it will be better as the store. It's very convenient in location. We are aware that we have Sprouts and Gelson's in the same parking lot but for certain brands and more reasonable prices bonds would definitely be preferable if it wasn't so sad. Earlier this year in September to celebrate the Jewish new year they did not have any honey or pomegranates out on display. When we asked for pomegranates, the produce guy said you couldn't get them at that time of year. (We ended up at Gelsons in the same lot where they were plentiful!) It is difficult to get help from most of the employees. After the winter holidays, we were looking for tea that we had bought a week earlier, and they just kind of dismissed us and told us that an outside vendor comes in and does that display, and it must be gone. There are many more instances of this and it just seems to be so prevalent at this store. Yesterday I went in and bought some candy from the barking bin in the bath. It had a red pack and said it was 50% off with the original price(14.99)displayed. However, when I got home, they never gave me the 50% off. This afternoon I went back and returned the candy to get my full refund. I waited at the front stand, where a gentleman was on the phone and he seemed bothered to have to help me. He was in dark clothing in a dark apron, and maybe he isn't a usual cashier. His manner was very gruff and not once did he apologize or offer any type of nicety. Obviously, I have shopped in markets for decades, and I have just never been in a market where it is so unfriendly and unwelcoming. There are many expired items left on shelves. It is imperative to always check the dates. When I was there over the weekend, there was a gentleman returning chicken and he said that they had just put it out and it was expired smelly and the liquid was going all over the checkout. I did feel bad for that cashier as he was a new guy and it was really gross and smelly. The female employee who was training him - or trying to help him - was not patient and nice to him. The coupons are not easy to figure out and are so time-consuming. Most (not all) the staff is just not nice about helping the customers. They are definitely not accommodating . Due to the location, I continue to find myself there although when we have time to go to Smart and Final or another store, we definitely seize the opportunity. Went to this location today. Loaded the cart with produce, milk, frozen vegetables and perishables. Was going to get sliced turkey at the deli. A single young lady was alone working and there were 6 people waiting their turn. So I went to check out only to find 1 cashier with 13 carts in line. Asked if a another cashier could assist and was told, no. understaffed Left my cart there and left the store to shop at a user friendly market, Pavilions. read more

I'm very sad to be leaving this review because I love this vons, but I will not be coming here anymore due to the discomfort a new employee had caused me. I shop at the deli counter nearly every day for my lunch, and workers like Elizabeth and Evie are out of this world. Cannot say enough good things about them. However there is a newer employee who said such creepy things to me that I told the manager. I said "hey ive got a weird sense of humor too, if she were my friend we'd probably have a good laugh, but it's unprofessional and made me not want to eat the food she prepared." Manager seemed to take it seriously and said the employee may be moved to another place in the store. I came back today and she was still there, and she stared me down like a psychopath. I thought about escalating but honestly just wanted to get out of there. I don't come to this Vons often as there is another Vons closer to my place, but my experiences here so far have been nice. Parking is never an issue since the location is in a strip mall. They do a great job in making sure there are enough carts up front for customers. The place is clean whenever I come. There are self checkout stations available. However, this afternoon when I came here, I went to get checked out with a cashier as I purchased many groceries, and the lines for the registers were fairly short. The grocery bagger was super friendly and even asked if I needed help with loading the groceries in my car. I declined, but I really appreciated the offer; I can't recall the last time anyone at a grocery store offered to do that for me. The cashier was more quiet, but he was still cordial. While I was shopping, I noticed there were certain items low in stock like the freshly made salsa and hummus made in the store. Still, the location offers a nice variety of groceries. All in all, this is a great Vons to check out if you are in the area. read more

I have been a loyal vons customer for many years, but the westlake location on agoura has gone screaming downhill the last few years. It's not just the lack of employees so the lines are long - its that they sell expired food! After throwing away lots of food/produce after seeing how old it was because, shame on me I didn't examine the expiration date as I would assume that was their job, though had found many cases of expired food when i did think to look - I started to go to Pavilions on Lindero. MUCH better store but not as convenient. Today I had a hair appointment close to the agoura road Vons, so just ran in to get something to make for dinner. I bought some pork chops today, january 27th. Went to cook it today, opened the package and the smell was off. The sell orfreeze by date was January 24 - THREE days ago. disgusting. Some health inspector needs to check that location. Felt compelled to give a call out so others avoid this poorly managed location. Sorry vons. Be better. read more

Vons (Westlake Village) The store has gone down hill the past couple of years! Most the folks there are nice enough but again the main reason of going is you want the best standards on food. You walk past the seafood dept. and it always smells, the veggies like tomatoes in packs moldy, the store is always freezing (my husband said proberly to hide the smell) and it just looks unkept. This Vons is in an area that could do 10 times better if they had higher standards. We now go out of our way for our main shopping to go to other Vons like Moorepark or the one on Avenida De Los Arboles and the differences are day & night and we live here in Westlake Village. To start, I'm not a usual shopper of Vons because I don't live in Cali, and this review is strictly regarding the bakery. I recently got married in the area of this store, and we were not looking to spend hundreds on a wedding cake. We had a small wedding too. But anyway, I've tried lots of wedding cakes and they usually aren't even that amazing but you pay a premium for them! Two days before our wedding, we came to this bakery and put in an order for a custom cake. We asked for a double-layer cake with fresh strawberry filling (as you can see in the photo). We asked that the cake be all white with white roses on top. We never did specifically tell them it was for a wedding, and I tried to first order online, however, we couldn't find an option online that clearly said the icing would be white. It instead gave color choices, so I'm glad we went in person to order. Anyway, the cake came out beautiful! And it was delicious too! We added our own cake topper. My husband said this cake was about $18. $18 for a wedding cake! Without a doubt, if you want to save money on your wedding but also get a decent cake, just go to Vons! We were thinking of Costco too, but I don't think Costco offered fillings to add inside the cake. read more

Clearly, her initial refusal was out of laziness, and she had no regard for customer service. This isn't a one-off issue. There's no place in any business for someone who goes out of their way to make a customer feel disrespected, particularly a loyal one who simply asked for help. She expected me to continue fumbling with my phone with my shaking hands after I'd politely asked for assistance, all while knowing a simple keystroke on her end could resolve the problem. And it's not just her. The manager was no better, giving me a half-hearted nod just to avoid a larger scene, rather than addressing the actual problem. As someone who's owned businesses, I would never tolerate an employee like this. The issue here isn't just poor service--it's a systemic problem, and it starts at the top. Vons needs to take this seriously, or they'll continue losing loyal customers. I'll be contacting corporate directly to ensure this issue is addressed. I had the good fortune to work with this Vons' Deli Department this past Thanksgiving. In the past, I have always bought my sliced turkey breast for our company's Thanksgiving lunch from Ralph's in Westlake but this year, thankfully, Ralphs could not help me because I ended up working with the most wonderful people: Evie, Jason, Marvin, and Nichole. Their dedication to Vons Westlake Village customers was hard to miss - it's the perfect combination of professionalism, intelligence, warmth, respect, and dedication to customer service that can be hard to find these days!! I believe Marvin is the manager of the department and, as you clearly know, "Outstanding managers can create a profound ripple effect in their organizations. Their behavior, integrity, and treatment rubs off on others for the better. Not only do they directly impact their team members, but they indirectly affect others. Well it happened again! After talking with John the manager about price gouging the Freshpet Chicken dog food. I was again forced to look for this dog food all over town before going to Vons. Kinda funny that Vons was the only place who had it available in abundance, BUT for a premium price. See image. $12.99 vs $15.99 Again they are price gouging. And They will not price match!! And John the manager wasn't available. The other two on duty, supervisors or something, said they are aware of this but that don't make the prices. Johns not available. You can come back tomorrow. Poorly run location! Items are always out of stock and shelves are empty. Trying to track down someone to check for an item is impossible. Management too busy filling curbside orders instead of helping customers. Vons has done better with opening checkstands when lines form. The hot deli is outstanding. The in-house fresh bagels are my favorite but during the pandemic they got lazy and started to cut back on proofing the bagels before baking. Now they are flat and hard(er). And now you have to preorder whole grain bagels. So bummed! One more comment.... The bags are so thin that upon taking them out of the fridge the bag rips and bagels will fall to the floor for unsuspecting customer(s). Businesses and people used and are still using the pandemic to get lazy and as an excuse server when looking to set blame elsewhere. Pride in ones work is fading all over America. Clean and well lit, everything is well stocked except for Haagen daas ice cream (NO!). Products are well priced and produce is fresh. The self checkout is convenient and the cashiers are friendly. A POINT BY POINT INVENTORY; Inconsistent at best, at worst, sorely lacking. It's as if they really don't know how. The shelves are very often half or fully empty. Many items are rarely in stock. They tried to pawn that off on their distributors, but it is the manager's job to order inventory. And, no, I do not find this to be the case anywhere else I shop. In fact, Pavilions, further up the road and owned by the same company, ALWAYS has what this one doesn't, except for my favorite individually wrapped brownies. LOL SERVICE; Inept, uncaring, unwelcoming and rude. A few times, when I asked where something was, either the person did not know, did not care to put in the effort to find out or didn't even know what I was talking about. So, you're pretty much on your own. Also, when I was there, I felt very uncomfortable, offended and threatened by a manager who was wearing a "Black Lives Matter" face mask. ALL lives matter, and such things are not appropriate for employees in a public workplace. PRODUCTS; As I said, they are not promptly replenished. Sometimes, when I go there, I see spoiling produce being displayed. What they do have is typically fine, just like what all the others have, so why not go to them? At least you'd know what you want would be there. CLEANLINESS; It is acceptably clean for an older store. WILL I GO BACK? Only in a pinch. The women who watches over the self check out line had an extreme racial profiling issue and I've seen it happen far too much for me not to say anything. I (Hispanic female) work a full time job across the street from this location but on my days off I do instacart on the side with my boyfriend. Every single day this woman works I watch her ONLY approach people of color to check to make sure "they can pay for everything" or "actually scanned everything". I watched her follow an African American man out the door to check his receipt after he had only purchased about 4 items and when he turned around to show her he had her response was "just making sure you looked suspicious". My boyfriend (who is African American) was second in line I stood afar to watch as she stood directly behind him, so close he felt her behind him, and she claimed to need to watch him to make sure "he doesn't try anything". I approached her and let her know the groceries weren't even ours they are for a customer we were shopping for therefore it is our job to assure all items are accounted for. She rolled her eyes and walked two steps back to keep watching us scan. read more

Worst money order service...., I used to love buying money orders here because they are cheap and I work across the street. It's convenient for me, but these past two visits have been extremely unpleasant. Last month I was told by a supervisor, Darlene, the machine was broken, this time I was told by that same supervisor she needed to fill out a form and required to give her my ID because I had arrived at the same time as another customer who happened to need a money order, as well?!?!?!?! Mind you I had already waited about 10-15 mins for her to supervise the employee who would be doing the money orders. I normally don't get upset but both times her attitude was not necessary. I didn't provide my ID and walked away. Never have I been asked for my ID to purchase a money order.... I would have given it to her but I was aggravated wit the whole situation. I have a heart This grocery store is the most convenient for my family. It is extremely close to us and we USED TO spend an incredible amount of money here weekly and daily. I am a very (VERY) easy going person. It takes an incredible amount to get me worked up. I have NEVER posted a yelp review until today. The reason...... a cashier named Melissa. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. She is sarcastic, degrading and flat out rude! if I had this experience once or twice I would not say anything. However, every time I have encountered this woman, it has been a nightmare. This woman has made you lose a very good customer. I understand being a cashier can be very frustrating. I stop in this Vons every once in a while to pick up a few things. I do not do my regular shopping here. This is a pretty nice location. It is clean and well kept. It is well stocked. I don't usually have any problem finding what I am looking for. The prices are pretty good as well as the specials. On my most recent visit, the produce section was pretty nice and everything looked fresh. The employees are friendly and helpful. They always help me find what I am looking for. The parking lot is pretty nice. It is newly done. This area does get crowded during the lunch rush due to the other stores in the area (Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Togo's). Also noted that this Vons location has one of those fancy Freestyle Coke machines where you can choose from 100+ flavors. 16/100 read more

Came here to grab some groceries on different occassions. The first time I had the supervisor as my checker and he was so friendly! Another time I was here, I had a very awkward and frustrating experience. Stood in line behind a very grouchy lady would had over 15 items in the express lane, and a checker who was very rude. Am I in Von's...or, uh, Oh! I'm in Safeway. Wait, they said it's a Von's! I don't get it... Being from Hawaii, it's a Safeway. Even uses the same club card. Uncharacteristic of Safeway's at home, it is NOT open 24 hours. Other than that, pretty much the same. Overpriced in some areas, deals are the same "10 for ..." If you need stuff, they got it. Like any other Safeway. If you are going in for the deals, it's worth it. For everything else, keep it light. read more

This is regarding the Deli Service. 5:30 on a Monday night. Stopped in to get a fast easy dinner to take home for the family. Instead I got a headache! One employee working; 8 people in line! Ridiculous! Saw 3 customers leave. One customer was ordering every sliced meat on the planet, with no regard to the 7 people behind him! And he was sampling too!! Come on Vons, you have to staff more employees during the get off work, fight to get home rush.
