Today was the final straw we will be notifying the media and hiring an attorney. As we got home by weighing our tri-tip we noticed that von's is charging the price of protein/meat for the packaging. They are not using tear weight while measuring the weight of the meat that you buy. We notified the manager on duty and she said that she would get back to us and she has not and it's been over an hour a very simple solution to look into, but she chose not to. Unfortunately, this is a big scam and is illegal. You are paying sometimes over $20 a pound for packaging. We also noticed that we paid for Double Trays as well. The tray underneath the meat was doubled up, so are we really getting a good deal are we really paying $19.99 for a pound of meat or are we paying for plastic and trash? This store sucks. They only ever have one cashier even when there's 20 people in line. Shitty overpriced meat, disappointing baked goods. Bags of vegetables that spoil the day after I buy them. Employees seem to be functionally brain-dead and don't understand things like their own signage. (Like they never understand "2 ct" means the price is for two of something and it's a huge hassle never to pay double for it). Most recently, after waiting a half hour in line, a clerk seeminly my own age (middle aged) refused to sell me zero alcohol beer without an I.D., because "It's alcohol." How can it be alcohol if it says "zero alcohol" all over the box? It's just this kind of stuff, every time I go. The cheap asses switched to all paper bags without handles, so forget carrying much. read more

I had a very disappointing and embarrassing experience with gift cards purchased at the Vons in Mission Hills. I bought three gift cards on different days and at different times, and every single one ended up having a zero balance when the recipients tried to use them. One incident in particular raised serious concerns. I paid cash for a $100 gift card, and the cashier said the card wasn't scanning and went to grab another one. Coincidentally, that card also had no funds on it when it was used later. These were meant as gifts, and it was extremely embarrassing to find out they were worthless. At this point, it feels like more than just a mistake. Whether it's poor controls or something more serious, customers should not have to worry about gift cards being drained before they're even used. I just want to warn potential customers not to buy meat that is already marinated or on sale. When the price for carne asada is too good to be true there a reason. I bought 3 lbs of carne asada to make tacos for dinner and it was absolutely inedible. It was way too fibrous and even though my husband cooked it well we couldn't chew it because it was basically all connective tissue. Also, it has a peculiar taste. I'm wondering if it was just old meat that they marinated to sell unsuspecting customers so they can get rid of it and still make some profit. My aunt who worked at a meat market told me this was a common tactic at the butcher's counter. While it went through my mind for a second that the meat may be passed its prime I decided to purchase putting my trust in Vons quality. That was a huge mistake. I ended up tossing the carne asada. No dinner for my family and $30 less in my pocket. Good thing I only bought 3 lbs. I would've returned it but it was already late. Plus I'm not sure what the policy on returning meat is. I'm writing this because what happened to my mother and me was extremely upsetting and honestly could have gone very wrong. We were falsely accused of stealing, followed into the parking lot, and then harassed by a security guard who was aggressive, unprofessional, and made us feel unsafe. This was an experience from last year, and yes, it's taken me a long time to write this, but I want to use my voice and share my experience with my community about my local store. After we finished checking out with our cashier, Chip, at Register 2, we walked out of the store and stopped by the Sherwin-Williams next door just to look around. As we continued back to our car, a man dressed in all black with a full ski mask covering his face came straight up to us. He didn't introduce himself or explain anything -- I genuinely thought we were about to be robbed based on his appearance and approach. He immediately asked for receipts (which I was pulling from my bag but he did not even check???) and then began calling us thieves. His tone and body language were extremely hostile. We asked who reported us and whether he even worked for Vons or was third-party security. Instead of answering, he made sarcastic jokes like "I just wear this for fun." It felt dismissive and unnerving, especially since we were clearly confused and scared. His behavior felt aggressive enough that I feared it could turn physical. He eventually said that Kenyatta (the cashier with purple hair) told him we walked out without paying. This didn't make sense since she wasn't even the one who checked us out. We went back inside with the guard still following closely. When I told Chip what was happening, he looked confused and confirmed that we had just paid with him minutes earlier. We asked Kenyatta why she thought we were stealing. She kept saying she was "just doing her job" and said she saw us walk out near Register 1. That part is true - I walked out that way after paying because I went back to look at more magazines. My items were already bagged, and I had my receipt. So why accuse someone without the facts? I did nothing suspicious and did not conceal anything. This did not feel like proper protocol was followed. The guard continued talking down to us, making a scene in front of customers. We asked to speak to a manager. Kenyatta pointed vaguely in a direction, and eventually Adriana, the lead, came over. She tried to intervene and repeatedly asked the guard to step away, but he refused. He hovered over us, telling us to "shut up" or "calm down," even though he was clearly escalating the situation. At one point, he stuck his middle finger in our faces and stood uncomfortably close. My mother was visibly frightened. His behavior felt intimidating, inappropriate, and threatening. We had every right to be upset. We were being falsely accused and publicly humiliated by a masked man who refused to disengage even when a manager told him to. It felt like proof no longer mattered and we had become the target of his hostility. Kenyatta's assumption was based solely on not seeing us exit a specific lane. She could have verified with the actual cashier instead of escalating immediately. That decision led to us being harassed and embarrassed in front of our neighbors and community. Several people later shared that they've had similar experiences with profiling at this location or involving the same employees. Even another cashier commented that this behavior "happens often," which speaks volumes. This situation felt discriminatory, aggressive, and dangerous. A security guard should not follow two women into a parking lot based on assumptions, especially while acting unstable and ignoring managerial direction. I'm sharing this to encourage Vons to take accountability and incorporate cultural competence training, especially regarding the harm caused by profiling and false accusations toward people of color. Some checkout staff are extremely rude even after you clearly paid with a receipt in hand they say did you pay? Or tell you don't put your items in the bag till you pay like a common criminal and if you are a supporter of anything GOP there are some nice people there about it, but there are opinionated leftists who make it clear they don't like conservatives. One staff member I merely asked for a different bill than the machine gave me when I paid and got my change because the lotto machine wouldn't take it. It was frustrating but no one raised their voice to her. She's always impatient and disrespectful turning it back onto me saying I was rude for simply asking to exchange a bill. This location is my local Vons, i have the app and enjoy the savings and rewards of it, the store it's self is great, amazing staff. i just wish they'd help each other a bit more (sometimes lines are long and they all look at eachother, no help because someone got into it with the current cashier) the reason for the 4 and not 5 stars is the security guard. total creep, made me and my sister feel totally uncomfortable. This is our local Vons. We have been shopping here for a decade. Post Covid has been really hit or miss, but these past few months we've been having the same consistent issue - TERRIBLE BAGGERS! They grab our bags of chips no matter the size and shove them into our bags like they're canned goods. And then the add more groceries ON TOP of them!! Not to mention the stacking is terrible. We load the belt strategically to help - like shaped items, similar weights, refrigerator items and non-fridge items separate. None of that matters. They're going to take two cans of beans and put them in the bag with ramen and eggs. Then take the other two canned items and put them in the bottom of the bag and top them with bananas and frozen pizzas. Sure, we brought more than enough bags but we'd much rather you shove all of our purchases into three bags, it doesn't matter that they're all over packed and heavy. After all, you're not the one carrying them from your parking space around a building and up stairs when it's 95° out. The staff is hit or miss in terms of friendliness - we have our usuals who we've known for years but as they're retiring the friendliness and helpfulness of the new staff is non-existent. I get it, we all just wanna do our jobs and be left alone, but there's a lot to be said for customer service and experience and that's something that has lacked since Albertsons took over. read more

This is the vons I go to for my petite sirloin and my peppercorn tri tip when they had it. They don't sell the tri tip anymore so I just get the petite sirloin. They have a decent amount of parking here. The only thing about this place is that they don't have a lot of self checkout stations, I believe they only have 6. The employee are nice if you take the time to talk to them and helpful at the checkout station. I used to get my orange juice from here but I go to another store to save a dollar for the same brand like half a mile away. read more

The employees here are very helpful and nice and they do a good job of keeping the store clean and stocked. However, I have noticed, almost every time I have come here, someone coming in and either successfully shoplifting, or getting caught trying to do so. If I could give a 0 star review I definitely would. I have been doing my shopping here at Vons through their app with CURBSIDE pickup. DO NOT DO IT. I HIGHLY do not recommend; not because of the app but because how the store manages it. My experience happened on Saturday at 3:50 PM. I went in and parked and notified them that I was there and in a WHITE car. When a Vons personnel comes out with groceries, I think its for me and I make eye contact but in that second a BLACK car pulls up next to me and opens their trunk. The Vons personnel walks up to their window and they look at their phones and I assume it's not for me. When the second the vons person walks back into the store I get a message my order has been picked up. I quickly got down from the car and went in to ask them directly. Long story short Vons' Supervisor pushed their "Assumptions" on to me that I must have given my code away and had someone else pick up. I told them i saw the girl give the groceries cause the second that happened is when i get the message. I told them I don't share my code nor would anyone else have access to my account or pick up my groceries for me. As the Supervisor at that time was insinuating happened. I told them to check their cameras, the Vons curbside personnel offered to reshop my order and I was thankful. BUT then the Supervisor of Vons went away with the girl and came back, and I was notified they couldn't reshop or refund as they had to investigate. That sounds like an internal problem NOT my problem to deal with their negligence. Whether it was an app issue or personnel issue it is NOT my problem to deal with an $80 loss. I was told to call back tomorrow to speak with a store manager Dawn/Autumn can't remember but instead I went directly to a higher up with the app chat and they helped me refund my account. i've been shopping at this Vons for 25 years - the quality of the produce at the store is atrocious more recently! Not only is Vons charging a premium for their produce, the quality of produce over the past six months has declined significantly. I found that there's higher-quality produce at the 99 Cents store lol. I filed an official complaint with Vons corporate because this has been going on for far too long. The last time I went in there every single head of Romain lettuce was wilted and old and they were charging two dollars where if I was to go up the street to the Vons in Granada Hills all the produce is fresh green and nearly perfect! Unfortunately this place is close to my house and with as many grocery store trips as I make it makes it inconvenient to always have to drive farther away so I am stuck doing most of my shopping at this dumpster fire of a store. Always out of things, produce is a disaster; food frequently rotting on the shelf, with a few rare exceptions employees have the worst attitude. I have frequently stood there listening to them bad mouth other employees and customers. Petty drama and BS, using their phones at the cash register and checking people out in between typing with an attitude like the customer is bothering them. I don't visit this location regularly, but when I am on my way from and to I have occasionally stopped in to grab this and that for my needs. I must say that, I am always happy with this location. Even through recent quarantine events, this location has managed itself very orderly and tried to keep as much as possible shelves stocked. On this visit, I had taken my senior Parent to another location/ vendor that marketed senior hours and it was just a joke. Saturday I went to this store with my wife and I saw the fridge with soups and thought "oh cool! I'll take a Jambalaya soup for my dinner". I touched the soups and they were warm, these are the soups they sell refrigerated. I approached a "Supervisor " and I'm not gonna reveal his name, and he said "yeah, the health department came and said that because of Covid, we have to keep the refrigerator off". I've seen them run out of carrots, tortellini, certain kinds of bacon, chicken thighs, it is usually one or two random items you can't get, every single week. I've been going to this market for over ten years now, and it is like a Soviet breadline. One time they ran out of carrots. Not a holiday week or anything. What kind of supermarket runs out of carrots? If there is a major holiday.. forget it. I've learned to do my Thanksgiving shopping elsewhere because this Von's will *always* be missing random items. They must lose soooo much money due to their stock problems. Hello? It is the year 2021? Everything is computerized and I routinely see just weird things missing. Like I'll go in, and there will be no red pepper flakes. WTF? That's not even a perishable item? Root beer for the kids. Not kidding.. couldn't buy a single 2 liter root beer in the store. Not Mug, not A&W. Ditto for Ginger Ale. Don't even get me started on them only having two registers open at any given time.. does this place even have a general manager? Are the managers here paid more than $14 per hour? This place has always been poorly managed. The employees are nice enough, but the stock and register issues show that there is no one truly in charge in this store. I've heard rumors that internally, it is called a "low volume store" and that's why it is not well taken care of. Well no shit. It is going to be low volume forever because the only people that will shop there consistently are those like me that only put up with the hassle because I live down the street. Wanna be high volume? Wanna stop leaving money on the table? Start staffing your registers. Fix your MASSIVE stock issues. If you run out of something all the time (like the Beyond Meat Hot Italian Sausages and chicken thighs), then take that as a clue THAT YOU NEED TO BUY MORE IN EACH SHIPMENT. Don't tell the customer "well, that's coming in on Tuesday's truck" when most customers only shop one or two days a week at most. If you build it, they will come. Keep ignoring these issues and you'll continue to be a mediocre "low volume store" and leave money on the table forever. This store must be losing more than $10k a week easy due to inventory problems. Try being excellent for a change for about a year, and I bet you'll have a LOT more customers. This requires consistent work and management. Not sure if Von's is actually capable of that. Update: I went back today like an idiot. No Johnsonville sausage patties. No chicken thighs. Boneless/skinless, or bone-in... no thighs at all. Simply amazing. Spoke to the meat department. "Oh.. sorry. The manager needs to break them down from frozen storage." That was the response. I picked up some chicken tenders and potato wedges for lunch, and let me tell you how annoyed and upset I am for having spent my money on that. The chicken tenders were hard, hard, hard. They were flavorless and were probably even not fully cooked. VONS needs to have someone supervise the food daily and immediately for quality before even putting any of that for customers to buy. If I could give it zero stars, I would. The service is always OK. But my complaint today and dissatisfaction pertains to the food I bought today.
