Today, like any other day, I went to Von's to pick up a couple of produce items. Per usual, there were many issues. 1st being the gigantic puddle of water that was left unmarked in produce. 2nd being a lack of decent basil. 3rd being a lack of customer service. Let's talk about that. Truthfully, if you shop at Von's, you already know that no one is coming here for the excellent anything besides its location and convenient parking lot.
I finished up my shopping, and headed up front to the self-checkout. As I was on a phone call, I did not want to be rude and go to an actual cashier. Not to mention, they are typically slower than an 80-year old in ankle weights.
There were 2 women having a conversation near the self-checkout podium. We will call them Frick and Frack. Frick was actually working the self-checkout line. Frack appeared to only be in this space to talk to Frick. As I was checking out, their conversation began to escalate. I, as well as my friend on the phone, could hear their entire exchange. Frick was upset that Frack was having a conversation with another employee rather than helping her with a task. Frack insisted that they were having conversations about work related issues. Mind you, I am still on the phone, trying to check out, and I apparently needed assistance with the weight of my bags. Their exchange quickly escalated to an argument, and as I was in the background asking aloud, "Are they serious right now? Oh, these two are actually arguing at work. I guess we're not going to get any help." They continued their argument. Their back and forth finally ended when I shouted, "Excuse me! Do y'all mind? I am on the phone, and y'all are at work!" I mean DAMN. Frack immediately disappeared. Frick had things to say, and we will revisit that. Anyways, I finished my checkout in peace-ish, and got the hell out of dodge.
Now, let's get into Frick. (If management sees this, I do hope you will let Frick see my response to her actions.) After the argument ended, Frick decided that she would let me know that she never did raise her voice and that Frack was just so disrespectful. Let me be very clear, I am an adult woman with eyes, ears, and a working mind for comprehension. I do not need you to tell me what I witnessed. Thank you, but know your place. You're here to do a job, and arguing with and throwing Frack under the bus was just beyond unprofessional. You ma'am are the majority of the issue in customer service. You have to be 50+ years of age, and you are still unable to be accountable in the face of your mistaken actions. You should have just apologized and rectified the situation by being better. Just be and do better! It really is shameful. You are too mature in life experience to be so much of a coward that throwing Frack under the bus to a customer was your top priority in rectifying a bad customer service experience. I should have asked for your manager then, but a yelp review will just have to do it.
I will most definitely be returning to Von's because it is conveniently located, and it has better produce than El Super. I hope you guys get your shit together! Reality is, I'll see you soon regardless.
