Stayed here with my better half for NYE. At the beginning I was a bit skeptical but by the time I left the next morning I had been converted to a fan. Next time I'm there I want to look at room 2 & 3: Initially thinking room 1 would be the best, due to the deck and sliding glass door to the back area, I now realize it'd provide a little less privacy, so I'm thinking 2 or 3 will do next time we're there.
First off the pub: It's as real as it gets for an authentic pub and the fact that you can play a real game of darts (I had never played a proper game of darts until my stay at The Volunteer Inn) and mix with the locals. As one gentleman told me the next morning while we were waiting for the riders to come out on their horses for the fox hunt, The Volunteer Inn "is where you can meet the real people of the area." And he was indeed correct.
The Indian restaurant. All I can say is have the chicken tiki marsala. It's got a really nice mango sauce that you can dip your chicken in and it is absolutely delicious. What an amazing find in a place like Chipping Campden: I was thoroughly shocked and pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant attached to The Volunteer Inn.
The accommodation's were basic but did the trick. Even at $65 GBP, it was a pretty fair price for the stay and aside from the NYE revelry we slept quite comfortably.
If charm and authenticity are what you're after in a stay while in the Cotswold's, you can't go wrong with The Volunteer Inn. read more
