If you're in town you should really give this relaxed and cozily lit one star eatery a visit. It's probably best to book in advance as we did, but the restaurant wasn't packed the Wednesday evening we were there. For a wider spectrum we chose the very reasonably priced six course menu (a four course menu is also available) with an edgy wine pairing consisting of mostly natural wines and I was not disappointed. To kick it off we got some super crisp thin breads with a wonderful chèvre crème on top followed by a generous amount of freshly baked sour dough bread and butter from a farm whose name escapes me. The first dish was a very nice broth with langoustine cannelloni and dill, paired with a 2014 Domaine de la Sénéchalière "Folle Blanche" Muscadet. The second course consisted of thin slices of Moose on a crisp-bread together with marrow, buckwheat flowers and what I believe was young pine needles. This mind blowing dish was paired with a 2013 La Lunotte "Le Flou" Touraine. How can they top that, you might wonder? Well, by serving a vegetarian umami bomb in the form of beetroots with some kind of crispy malt noodles on top of rose petals. The dish wasn't very photogenic but this was the highlight of the evening. Insanely great as the late Steve Jobs would have said. The 2012 François Dhumes "Minette" Chanonat was right on the edge with it's boat diesel and grape fruit flavors. Number four was another vegetarian dish. Salsify boiled, then dried and boiled again to get a pasta like consistency with a nice liquorice-like flavor served with parsley and quince. Good but nothing extraordinary together with a 2006 Escoda -Sanahuja "Els Bassots" Conca de Barbara. The next dish was cod with green strawberries hiding under kale which was also good. Loved the fish-strawberry combination but the first three dishes had spoiled me by now so I wasn't super impressed. Drank a 2012 Sebastien Riffault "Quarterons" Sancerre. The dessert got mixed reviews from us with one person leaving it almost untouched. Sour cream, tarragon merengue and blueberry sherbet was apparently not for everyone. It was interesting though and the non vintage Domaine Du Fontenay "Les 7" Villemontains was very nice. Don't forget to order coffee (brewed at your table) or tea because without asking for it, you will get the best "sockerkaka" (sponge cake) you have ever tasted. So good it was half gone when I took the picture. ;) I will definitely dine here again and so should you.

Head on down to Volt in central Sweden for a relatively affordable Michelin one star dining experience. Try to book more than a week in advance unlike me so that you will have your choice of time during the weekend. When you enter the restaurant, you will experience dim lighting and modern decor inside a relatively cozy and relaxed environment. Men need not wear a jacket to this establishment. You will have a choice of the four or six course menu. The courses are tapas-sized and spaced so that you will end up spending a good deal of time. My husband and I spent an hour and a half there dining on the 6-course menu. The menu was very simple. Each course was described with is three or four main ingredients. The flavors are local and seasonal. The courses available when I went in winter 2017 had very earthy flavors. Mushrooms, kohlrabi, deer, and Swedish berries. Now, I feel like an enormous snob for only giving 4 stars. The food was delicious, simply presented, and evoked a sense of artistry. The starters and finishers were by far the most memorable dishes for me. The highlights of the dinner were the fresh, grainy sourdough bread and smoked butter starter and the almond ice cream with smoked caramel sauce and Spanish chervil seeds dessert. But, somehow, though I enjoyed the courses, I was not wowed (except for the bread and dessert). I also have an egg and avocado allergy, and one of the courses on the menu was egg heavy. So, instead of replacing that meal for me, they simply left it out. I was extremely disappointed in that - I do believe restaurants of this grade should be able to accommodate diners who have allergies (especially if they are bothering to ask to begin with). So, I am glad I dined at Volt because I feel that I got to experience some genuine seasonal Swedish flavors, including red deer tartare. But, given the amount of other Michelin-starred restaurants in Stockholm, I would probably pass on returning here before experiencing other choices.

My daughter made a reservation after reading all the reviews. We are world travelers and live in one of the culinary centers of the world, Chicago, so naturally our expectations are high. If you like food and wine and understand it - do not go to Volt. It will leave you disappointed and frustrated that you have spent one precious dinner evening in Stockholm there. Wine - the list is ok but the wine itself is not of good quality. It seems like people in Stockholm prefer rose and white wine and rarely drink red. We however expected good quality wines from the place. Not so. The first bottle we ordered was corked and the last in the restaurant. We had to send it back even though our server thought that the wine was fine. Actually we saw them serving the wine we refused to another party. Pretty sad. The second bottle was not corked so we kept it but it was not good quality and went cloudy by the middle of the dinner and tasted sour. Bottom line - they have no idea what they are serving and what a good wine is so do not expect much. Food: Let me begin by saying that EVERY dish we had was green in color. Very strange and very bland. If not for one dish of mackerel (pictured) that was very plesant I would have given Volt one star. They are trying to be inventive (juice of charred asparagus with goat cheese and asparagus dish - borderline not tasty and very unbalaced) but the steps are timid (pan fried sweet bread? Boring....) and the results are not even ok. Bottom line - eat or explore somewhere else

High ambition/cost ratio. The art of culinary concealment; food is hidden on the plate.

We had just arrived that afternoon and were walking around our hotel to look for an early dinner. The dining room is lovely but not too stuffy or formal. We ordered the brown bread for starters, along with some wine and beer. I ordered the Arctic char (parsnip, chili, hazelnuts, browned butter and a soy glaze) and Paul G. went with the meatballs (hand-rolled and with cream sauce, mashed potatoes, lingonberries and pickled cucumber). We had the traditional Swedish meatball dish a few more times during the trip and they all came with the same components, but Bistro Bestick's was my fave. The sauce was heavier, velvety and creamy, and the potatoes were oh so fluffy. The berries were tart and fresh. I loved my fish, too... the hazelnuts, brown butter and soy were such a bright, unexpected combination. I enjoyed every bite. Don't sleep on dessert here! I couldn't even finish my dinner but still wanted to try the chocolate rum cake (salty caramel sauce, roasted peanuts, vanilla ice cream and crispy sesame) and what a delightful flavor explosion! It was beautifully presented and the sesame "cracker" on top was the perfect contrast to all the sweetness. I'd highly recommend BB!

We were hungry and just wanted a decent dinner prior to going out that night. Dining here was one of the best decisions during our time in Stockholm. The meatballs were absolutely amazing and one of the most memorable meals of my life. The presentation of the dishes was also impressive. We came here tired and left satisfied and ready to explore Stockholm nightlife. If you're in Stockholm, visit this restaurant and try the Swedish meatballs.

It is 18 degrees and my body says it is 4AM but I WANT THIS FOOD. I am really hoping today's selection will be swedish hash or this fish soup. Nope, but swedish meatballs and salmon will nicely fill our bellies. Your lunch comes with a small salad bar, bread, coffee, tea, lingonberry juice and I see cookies hiding. Grab your tableware here. The 5 Swedish meatballs came with mashed potatoes, pickled cucumbers, lingonberries, and brown gravy. A nice chunk of salmon came with baby potatoes, grilled asparagus and bernaise sauce. Both meals delicious.Hubby and i tend to share our meals so we each get to taste each other's. I dont think it is customary to leave a tip in Sweden but the machine asks if you want to leave one. I went with 10%. Total cost out the door for 2 delicious and filling meals was just under $40. That is $20 each for you non math people:) We will return. I am still on the hunt for that fish soup. The menu is posted outside. Those are your choices for the day which includes a vegetarian choice. Staff is very welcoming and speaks English. I HAVE BEEN COMING HERE FOR YEARS.
