This is half of a shared plate (we split the dish and they served it split!) such great service

Our lunch was a Swedish delight. I had the Wallenbergare Veal with fresh peas, puréed potatoes, lingonberries drenched in Swedish butter!

Great place in the opera house for Swedish meatballs! You can't make a resy and it's a very small restaurant. So head there early to avoid a long wait. Me and hubby both got the meatballs and they were fantastic with the mashed potatoes and lingonberries. They served this delicious sweet rye bread and sourdough at the beginning of the meal. I ate both pieces up. Service is a bit slow but just flag someone down and they'll be right over. Alcohol selection is good

After seeing the good reviews on Yelp, we couldn't resist! Bakfickan is an unassuming little place in a very central location, yet very classy and local feeling. I thought we would be sitting outside on the deck, which is a bigger space, but alass it was sprinkling and we went inside. The space is quite small, with a large U-shaped bar and tall tables with stools around the perimiter. The place was about 1/3 full when we arrived. We asked if there was seating for 5 and the head chef said "of course, right here" - and the 5 of us sat in stools at a corner - there are really no tables that big inside, but it worked fine. The interior is very pleasant. It has a classy formality to it, but very casual as well. I might imagine patrons of the Opera having a bite to eat here, well dressed, before seeing a performance next door. They had a couple of good beers on tap with a nice wine selection. The staff was super friendly with a sense of humor. I had read tails of the meatballs here, and this was to be for most of us, our first dip since we had arrived. I've had Swedish meatballs here and there, but this was a whole new level. The food arrived in about 15min, with 4/5 of us having the meatballs with unlimited boats of lingonberries and pickles. The potatoes and gravy were SO creamy and flavorful, with the tenderest and most delicate meatballs. I was practically in tears. The lingonberries had a nice freshness and tartness to them, more like whole berries than a sweet jam as is sometimes servied. The pickles were fresh and not overly vinigary - even my wife loved them, and she never eats pickles. My son had a steak dish that was fantastic as well. Gourmet comfort food at it's best, reasonably priced - Backfickan is an outstanding and cozy dining experience in the heart of Stockholm.

We couldn't have found a more spectacular place to relish traditional Swedish meatballs in a quaint outdoor venue. Easy to find via walking directions from Yelp.

What a charming restaurant. It was very welcoming and felt intimate on a rainy day. (There was no outside seating due to the rain. ) Pros: Staff were efficient, friendly and looked professional in their white jackets. Food: we had: the Swedish meatballs with lingdon berries and cucumbers served with whipped potatoes and the cured salmon served with potatoes. Food was very good. Wine was good as was the crème brûlée. Cons: very minor... seating inside is all around the bar with some small tables against the walls. All were pub stool bar height with no stool backs, so if your back needs support or if you have mobility issues, this is something of note. The cafe tables outside would normally address this issue as they appeared to be standard height. The small interior tables also have a built in service area stocked with a lot of cocktail napkins and such. We were plate jockeys due to the resulting limited space, bit it was a minor thing. This place was definitely worth the walk and I'd highly recommend it.

Absolutely amazing Swedish meatballs, insanely soft like butter, drenched in creamy brown sauce and served in a quaint and bar from yesteryear. We walked up at around 7 on a Friday and there were plenty of seats at the bar, but it filled up about 30 mins later so I would definitely not recommend this for big groups. The service was pretty fast and super friendly. The meal was absolutely delicious but a bit on the pricey side for most dishes ( more than 300 kroner per entree) but the meatballs were a deal at around 220kr. If you're just a few and want classic meatballs this is an excellent place.

Amazing experience. Our server was very attentive and helpful. She even brought out some local schnapps to go with the assorted herring appetizer. Main dishes and dessert were amazing. We sat outside on a terrace and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food.

It's definitely 100x times better than ikea and I'd say ikea meatballs are not half bad, if you're into it then you'd definitely love this place. Joking aside, I came here for the first time while visiting Sweden for the first time. So I wanted to try real Swedish food. The food was perfect and the service was great. The waiters were very attentive and helpful. I enjoyed every bite.

Swedish meatballsssss! The staple dish you think of when you come to Sweden is swedish meatball, and this bacfickan's meatballs did not disappoint. My friend ate them so quickly that I got to eat one. Was going to order another round but I was on a time constraint. The oysters and sausage were also equally mouthwatering. The dishes came with a side of mashed potatoes and potatoes in a cream sauce that were both wonderful compliments to the meats. We also tried the strawberry pannacotta, the caramel donuts and a scoop or sorbet. The donut plate and the scoop of sorbet were excellent but I wouldn't order the pannacotta again. Food comes out really slow however the presentation of the dishes is exxquisite

Very good food. But very long wait for our food. It seemed like natives got their food faster and had better service. The service was great don't get me wrong but very very slow. Had the Swedish meatballs. The crayfish appetizer was amazing. For how long I waited for the meatballs I would have thought the meatballs should be warmer. And the potatoes were cold. My friend had the farm piglet and it was tasty and very warm

We had just arrived that afternoon and were walking around our hotel to look for an early dinner. The dining room is lovely but not too stuffy or formal. We ordered the brown bread for starters, along with some wine and beer. I ordered the Arctic char (parsnip, chili, hazelnuts, browned butter and a soy glaze) and Paul G. went with the meatballs (hand-rolled and with cream sauce, mashed potatoes, lingonberries and pickled cucumber). We had the traditional Swedish meatball dish a few more times during the trip and they all came with the same components, but Bistro Bestick's was my fave. The sauce was heavier, velvety and creamy, and the potatoes were oh so fluffy. The berries were tart and fresh. I loved my fish, too... the hazelnuts, brown butter and soy were such a bright, unexpected combination. I enjoyed every bite. Don't sleep on dessert here! I couldn't even finish my dinner but still wanted to try the chocolate rum cake (salty caramel sauce, roasted peanuts, vanilla ice cream and crispy sesame) and what a delightful flavor explosion! It was beautifully presented and the sesame "cracker" on top was the perfect contrast to all the sweetness. I'd highly recommend BB!

Apparently I'm not the only one - since last I visited it is now placed on Michelin's Bib Gourmand list for Stockhom, and rightfully so. Upon entry you'll already feel a lovely blend of Swedish design and quirky aesthetic choices that signal you're in for a good experience. While the interior is tasteful, there are elements like chairs being mounted on the walls and a couple of the seatings being perched up on mounts near the front windows. Everyone who greets you and serves are very delightful, charming, and often funny, which really sets the tone wonderfully. The food itself is on the heartier side but all really well considered and delicious. We had the see bass ceviche with tomatoes (fresh, tangy, and complex) and iberico ham with parmesan (basic but very high quality ingredients), both of which were really delicious. The complimentary bread rolls and butter were really delightful, cooked with a bubbly crunchy texture that was delightful to chew. The main courses included their classic pork confit dish as well as another ibercio pork entree with white beans, cilantro, and chorizo - both were savory and very meat-forward but the star of the show was absolutely those white beans which were prepared in a very savoury sauce. Our total bill including a very good bottle of pinot noir from Napa Valley the bill came to around $240 USD. For the quality of the food, service, and attention to style, as well as the distinction of being a recognized place to eat in Stockholm, I would definitely recommend this place to any traveler who wants to experience local cusine in Stockholm.

Everything you'd need for the perfect meal out! They do not accept reservations and we went on a Sunday evening around 8:30 pm. We waited about 30 minutes, but boy was it worth it! We were seated at a cute little corner table that had pads on the benches, right next to a window to see the street. Lighting was dim and cozy. Service was the best I've had in recent memory. Our waitress was peppy despite having to deal with a long line and probably a long day. She was friendly, attentive, and so cheerful! 100/10. We started with the reindeer salad since my bf had never had reindeer before. While the reindeer seemed less cooked than expected, by the end he really liked the mix of flavors and thought it paired well with the salad. We both got the Swedish meatballs for our entrees and loved them! We both loved the pickled cucumbers and lingonberries. The lingonberries pair so well with the meat! While there are only 3 meatballs, they were so huge neither of us could finish all of them. Especially because I wanted to save room for dessert: the sponge cake! While it didn't look like much on presentation, it was surprisingly moist and the cream and berries were absolutely delicious. My bf said he was only going to have one bite (he's not a big dessert guy) but instead ended up eating half! Highly recommend! Overall would come back again just for the vibes, service, dessert, and to probably try another entree, which I'm sure would be good as well! Unfortunately, for most of the meal, the food itself didn't fully live up to the reputation. We ordered a pretty broad range of dishes. The herring was a bit of a miss for us and felt messy rather than memorable. The girls had the meatballs and a mushroom dumpling dish, but neither one really enjoyed their meal. Both dishes leaned very salty, to the point where it took away from the overall experience. I ordered the venison, which was fine, but not particularly special. It was one of those dishes that was technically okay, but didn't make me want to keep eating. I honestly didn't finish it. Mia ordered the cod, which looked good, but again, it didn't feel like anything spectacular or especially memorable. What completely changed the tone of the experience was the service. Toward the end of the meal, our server noticed that I hadn't eaten much. Without making a big deal out of it and without me asking for anything, he brought over a steak with potatoes and fries. That dish was excellent, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. More importantly, the gesture itself was incredibly thoughtful. That kind of hospitality is rare. He didn't have to do it. I wasn't complaining, and I wasn't expecting anything. I was prepared to leave the meal as-is. But the fact that he noticed and cared enough to make the experience better says a lot about the service and the professionalism of the staff. So while the original food we ordered was hit-or-miss, the service elevated the evening in a major way. The meal itself may not have been excellent across the board, but the hospitality was. For me, this ends up being a four-star experience: not because every dish landed, but because the staff turned what could have been a disappointing dinner into something memorable.

A once-in-a-lifetime experience and meal for anyone lucky enough to snag a reservation…read more Reservations open at 10 am on the first of the month for the following month and will go quickly, within a couple of minutes, so for a restaurant 15 years in, is still a hot spot to be. I planned my whole Stockholm trip around coming here, and was lucky enough to snag a solo reservation for dinner the last night of my trip in May 2025. Truly nothing comes close to the overall service & hospitality experience and quality of the food and drinks. I have dietary restrictions (no red meat), that they could accommodate with no problem and even provide a printed menu that represented my exact substitutions, which rarely happens for me. The night I came, Björn Frabtzén received a third Michelin star at Frantzén's sister restaurant in Dubai, becoming the only chef in the world to helm three 3-Michelin star restaurants simultaneously, and my experience here really shows why they are the best of the best. You enter from a lobby and are greeted by a host who will guide you through the experience. I had the opportunity to use the restroom and then got a peak into some of the meats I'd be enjoying for my meal in the entryway itself. You then go up an elevator to the Lounge, where you get your first look at the drink menu and your first bites. Frantzén was one of the first restaurants to really champion this experience of moving from room to room for different courses and it sets an ambiance almost of eating at someone's home. It's casual but decadent and the chefs walk you through all of the ingredients you're about to enjoy while casually chit chatting and enjoying the best canapés of your life. After the starters, you're taken through the prep kitchen and the wine cellar to the actual restaurant, which is a large open kitchen where you get to watch the chefs work while enjoying your meal. I was celebrating my birthday, and despite getting the NA pairing (which was excellent minus one drink towards the end) had so many additional generous free pours of incredible wines and champagne throughout the night. Well worth it, as their sommelier won best sommelier at the Scandinavia Michelin ceremony one month later in June 2025, and some of the glasses they gave me for free were easily $100 a piece. Come hungry, because you'll leave stuffed beyond belief for a 5-6 hour meal (and can always hang out longer if the restaurant hasn't closed up for the night.) This menu is legendary and best to go in without too many spoilers, but I had the best dish of my life - the tear drop peas chanwamushi - sweet, so tender, unreal. Another guest told me they wait all year for pea season to get this version of the dish. After dinner, you move back into the lounge where you're treated to after dinner drinks, teas, light sweets (that they will box up for you if you're too full) and the famous cardamom, brown butter, and Madeira madeleines. These mini-versions of madeleines come in a set of 9, are made fresh to order, and are refilled for however long you want to sit and enjoy the ambiance and chat at the end of the night. I felt like over the course of this part in particular, I made friends with other diners and the staff and had one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences of my life. Frantzén is one of the best in the world (and if Reddit is to be believed, the very best) for a reason.
