I had meatloaf which comes with carrots and mashed potatoes. Added a side of garlic spinach, which was delicious. Beware the meatloaf is wrapped in bacon and that is not listed on the menu, but the server did verify I was cool with that and Ai appreciated that for those who may not eat bacon. I used to come here once a month for dinner with a friend. We did it for over a year. It was fine - we got consistently good meals. Brought my mom here for her 75th birthday. She ordered the lamb chops. Of the 3 that came out, 1 was well done and 2 were medium. How?! Same servers as have been there for the last 3 or 4 years, but the kitchen, as always, was ... just ok. Had a friend in town and decided to go to Volare. It's normally on point so hey.... Why not? I love the charm and intimacy of it. Parking is primarily on the street but there's also a lot behind it/adjacent that can be used. Parking is free. We walked in through the patio door and were immediately greeted by a lady with blond curly hair. I'm describing her because unfortunately I can't recall her name. She was great the entire time. We sat at the bar and the staff were very attentive. Ordered the pasta and instead of seafood, got chicken. Tasty. Had maple cheesecake for dessert and my goodness it was delectable. My first trip here. Came across this spot while traveling for work. I sat at the bar and enjoyed friendly, attentive, and professional staff. They all seemed to be working as a perfectly synchronized team. The space is charming and comfortable with a friendly and welcoming vibe. I enjoyed a fine red blend wine, $24 per glass, that was suggested by a waiter who generously offered me a few tastings. I chose the grilled Australian Lamb chops with asparagus, herbed couscous, smoked bourbon sauce for $47. I asked if the roasted root vegetables that were served with the steak entree could be substituted for the couscous and the waiter graciously said the substitution would be no trouble. There were 3 small lamb chops cooked to a perfect medium as I ordered. 2 of the lamb chops were chewy and disappointing. 1 of the chops was tender and pretty good. It wasn't seasoned well and was bland. The sauce was sweet with no discernible smoke or bourbon flavors. The asparagus was cooked perfectly and delicious. The root vegetables were unevenly cooked with some being perfect and some that were undercooked. The root vegetables were seasoned well and had good flavor. I think there should've been more lamb for $47. I was grateful for the unusually pleasant and attentive service. read more

After weeks of talking about it, I finally had the chance to visit Volare Bistro. Sitting in the cozy revamped district of Downtown Hapeville, Volare Bistro presents as a great romantic dinner setting for any occasion. Walking in, we were immediately greeted by the host. Providing him our name, we were immediately taken to our seats. The inside is small yet spacious as well as they have a patio area out back. The natural wood tones are highlighted by the perfectly placed dim lighting. Once seated, Desmond arrived at our table and presented us with a smile, warm welcome, and water. He discussed the menu options with us and allowed us a moment to decide on our order. As the menu is curated on an ongoing basis, the selections displayed were perfect for the season. After going back and forth between fish or pasta, I decided on a Greek Salad as my appetizer and the Bucatini Marinara for my main course. Upon arrival, my salad was gorgeous. The ingredients were fresh and the portion size was perfect for the price. The dressing provided really enhanced the freshness of the salad and wasn't heavy. Paired with the bread that was provided, this was a perfect way to enjoy a light bite to kick off the food experience. The Bucatini Marinara, which consisted of House-made marinara, tomato, basil, and grilled chicken was a perfect pick for my Saturday night meal. The dish is made so that the natural flavor of the tomato is the star of the meal. The sauce is lightly seasoned so you have the authentic flavors of the basil but anything else is minimal as the tomato takes the show. The Bucatini pasta was tender yet firm and sat well with the lightly seasoned grilled chicken. As I love a diverse flavor profile, the simplistic approach towards the flavoring of the Bucatini Marinara puts you in the mindset of a good dish that keeps the main thing the main thing. I came with my mother who has lived in Hapeville all her life and so have her parents & their parents but she has never gotten to enjoy what the area has to offer. It's centrally located, close to lots of parking, and staffed with servers who all seem to really enjoy working there and making sure you have a wonderful experience. We started off with the mussels as an appetizer. I had had them here several years ago and remembered them as being some of the best mussels I had ever tasted. They still are! For entrees, one of us had the New York Strip which was cooked and seasoned perfectly and accompanied by tender carrots and green beans and whipped mashed potatoes. Our server Jackie helped me make a decision between two entrees I was debating over. Her knowledge of the menu was greatly appreciated and my choice of the Chickpea Cakes was a huge hit. This entree is packed with smokey flavors and despite not having a protein, it was very filling! It was an exceptional experience. Jackie had a wonderful sense of humor and provided exceptional service. The ambiance was casual and relaxed. Volare was a great way to end the week with an impromptu Friday night outing. One of the things that I have committed to doing this year is to patronize businesses in my community. I live in the Tri-City area. East Point, College Park, Hapeville. I honestly did not know this restaurant existed until I saw it on Facebook. I don't get over to Hapeville often but the past two times that I went out to eat have been in Hapeville. We made a reservation for 5:30. We finished around 7:00. It started getting busy. Reservations are recommended for all Atlanta area restaurants at this point and time. It's so much easier than just sitting around waiting. The restaurant is pretty much open meaning the seating, the bar and there's like an open style kitchen. We were greeted and seated as soon as we entered the restaurant. It's small and intimate and actually I like that. Starters: Bruschetta and Mandarin Salad. The bruschetta was abundant. The plate made you want to dig in immediately. Very healthy portion. Mandarin Salad- Gourmet greens, almonds, mandarin oranges, crumbled goat cheese, red onions, Mandarin Orange vinaigrette. Very good and the dressing was subtle in taste. PAN SEARED GROUPER Wild rice, sauteed zucchini, tomatoes, garlic, artichokes, honey chipotle peach reduction. gluten free. This dish was delectable. I took my time and ate it very slowly because I did not want want it to end. Lastly I chose Carrot Cake for dessert. The cake is chilled which makes it dense and dry. That was a little shocking. The cake had a good taste and the frosting was not overly sweet. It didn't seem like it was cream cheese based. Had it been room temperature it would have been perfect. I've been exploring spots closer to home in hapeville. This was my second stop. A cute wine bar, with a decent amount of tables. The serve was nice , she might have been a fit distracted with the table next to us but she did good. The crab dip was delicious, I wish a tad bit more came with it. It was gone before I even realized we ate it so fast. The lamp chop were delicious and cooked to perfection. My date had the chicken and he said it was really good. For dessert we tried the bread pudding which wasn't like a traditional style bread pudding but was yummy! I am new the area and was looking for a restaurant to check out. I found this place on Yelp and decided to take my dad. First, we found parking on the street pretty easily and got sat pretty quickly even with a relatively full restaurant. The service was impeccable and I really enjoyed the food. Note that this place only has wine, no liquor. Caesar salad was decent, strong anchovy flavor so make sure you're ok with that. I got the ribeye and honestly it tasted like a steak you could buy at Kroger for $6 with a little bit of herb butter on top. If it was $27, it might've been acceptable but for $47 that was highway robbery, I've had better steaks at Applebees. They also didn't trim/de-vine the green beans. My friend ordered the lamb and was also underwhelmed. Street parking which was fairly easy to find. Service was great so I will give them that, probably why I gave it three instead of two stars. read more

As you can see from my 2 prior reviews I Loved this place, and I am not really sure what changed. But from the last time I was there in January to now, something has. It is still quaint and warm. I picked it for our dinner with our friends, one of whom, introduced me to the place. I sold it to my husband big time. But the food was just not anything like what I had in January. Let me say that our server Shirley really did her best and wanted things to go well. All the staff is amazing, but the kitchen was not on point last night! The first hint of change was with the mussels. This was previously absolutely a standout dish. The last time I had it, I kept the sauce for the rest of my meal! This time the mussels came in a flavorless watery sauce. When we sent it back, they returned the same plate better, but nowhere close to what I had tasted before. 3 of us had the Mahi dish. It was okay. No standout flavor and mine was a little on the dry side. The sauce was basic and the fish had a tiny bit of crab on it. I'm not sure whether it was supposed to be cold, but it was. That was a little concerning because of health reasons. The worst part was my husband's meal. First, the pork chop. He specifically said he didn't want it dry. I tasted it and it was completely flavorless, dry and hard. He sent it back and didn't want another. He took the suggested Chicken Cordon Blue and was equally disappointed. I tasted it, and it was flavorless. He ate it but he didn't like it! When we went the last time, I thought the prices were on the high end, but totally worth it. (IMO this lends credence to the restaurant's quality!) I ordered a glass of columbo blanc wine, chickpea cakes and a Greek salad. All my food was fresh and beautifully plated. The smoked tomato sauce on the chickpea cakes was amazing. I could have licked the plate (fortunately I chose to keep it classy and did not)! From my seat at the bar I could see the kitchen staff was hard at work and were very clean. I chatted with a couple of them briefly and they were also very cordial. We arrived a little after 9 p.m. on a Friday, but the restaurant was already closing even though the website says they're open until 10. Very disappointing, especially since we took an Uber only to find the doors shut. If you plan to visit, I strongly recommend calling ahead to confirm their actual hours.
