The food was freshly made which is awesome! The place is a small, cozy cafe and has cute seating and beautiful decor. It's a comfortable and aesthetic spot for a nice quick brunch or coffee date. The service was great - the servers were so friendly and genuine and added to the experience for sure. I'm glad I tried this place!

I've eyed Recreo for a while and stopped in with a friend to visit, and we were so impressed! We got a pumpkin latte and a lavender matcha, the latter of which is on their summer menu. They knocked both out of the park - so flavorful and delicious! We both tend to prefer sweeter drinks, but we had a perfect balance of flavor with our coffee/matcha. My friend also got a mixed berry scone, which was solid as well but he found it to be a little dry. I would definitely look forward to trying a pastry in the future - I was eyeing their cookies, but wasn't feeling it that morning. I am so happy I live so close and will definitely be back! The baristas were all so kind and personable - in addition to making great drinks, they truly connected with each customer and everyone seemed so happy to be there. We sat inside with all the pollen outside, but the outdoor patio nearby was ADORABLE. Makes sense that it was full when we got there!

The complex that Ula is in is super cute, there is typically plenty of parking. It's also right on the orange line, so there is easy access. Ample indoor and outdoor seating made getting a table a breeze. We ordered an iced coffee, iced latte, vegan burrito, and an Amort St sandwich. The Amory was really yummy, my partner enjoyed it. The coffees were pretty run-of-the-mill, nothing to write home about. The flavor in the latte was pretty weak. I added caramel to it as well, but it just tasted like milk; it's nice if the espresso taste or caramel flavor shines through, but it didn't deliver here. Fiore's and Third Cliff are still my go-to's for a good latte. While we waited for the burrito to come out, the chef came and told us he didn't have the necessary ingredients. He offered great replacements and made recommendations. He was super kind and honestly made our experience much better. Give that person a raise! Overall, good experience! Food was really good. Ambience and service were good. Coffee not great. Definitely worth a stop-in!

Their coffee options are incredible (so many options!) and I always gravitate toward their breakfast sandwich. It's on this big, poofy ciabattino roll with egg, cheese, and arugula, and it is so satisfyingly rich but not too, too heavy. (You can add meat, too, although I think it's good as is.) Their Vietnamese cold brew is a must-try. I know some reviewers didn't love it, but for me, it's pure bike fuel: Cafe du Monde cold brew with condensed milk...and that color gradient! Oh, it's gorgeous. They don't mix it in advance, so every sip is a swirl from brown to creamy white. On a holiday (Juneteenth), I even biked over to grab the breakfast taco for my coworkers who had to be at work for a bit, and they raved about it too. It's always buzzing, especially on weekends, but now that it's good weather out, they recently added outdoor seating. What a fun, local, charming coffee spot, and honestly, I think it's the best one in Brighton.

The coffee is always delicious and there are seasonal house made flavours for something a little special. I love that none of the drinks are especially sweet and you can adjust as needed. The food is always tasty and changes frequently but not so frequently that you can't get your favourites. The matcha and houjicha are expertly made and the selection of tea is quite extensive but also carefully curated so it is not overwhelming. The staff are knowledgeable and always willing to walk you through any drink or menu item if you have questions. The space is so cute and cozy and has places that are great solo or with a friend, a small group can also gather at the center table or outside. However, every single time I have come here, the service has been pretty terrible. Things like subtle eye rolling, not wanting to explain parts of the menu, straight up ignoring customers, and just not friendly service. Super sad because I love the speedway, and have tried this place almost 5 times now thinking it was a one-time thing. My friends have had the same issue, which makes me feel like this is an ongoing problem. Hopefully with the new hiring this will change, and I will definitely update my review if so. For now, my friends and I won't be going back here.

I'm writing this review from the cafe right now and can hear the jazz piano playing softly in the background, plenty of people with laptops, wifi, comfy seating, and an atmosphere that is perfect for working all day, reading a book, catching up with a friend, or bringing some artwork to work on. I wish I lived closer because I could see myself parking here for hours. The food is largely Vietnamese-inspired, and I appreciate that there are quite a few options. The spring rolls have good vegetarian choices, including mushroom and tofu, and the bánh mì selection is surprisingly broad: chicken, pork, beef, classic, even smoked salmon. This time I got the $9.99 special with a half classic bánh mì and an iced latte with oat milk. The latte was probably the weakest thing I've had here; it was quite light in color and tasted a little watery. BUT (!!!), I was oddly impressed by the bánh mì. It wasn't overflowing with meat or toppings, but for $9.99, especially these days, I wasn't expecting something enormous. What they nailed was the bread. It was wonderfully warm, light, crisp, and crunchy in exactly the way good bánh mì bread should be. The pâté spread also really hit the spot. They also serve boba. On a previous visit I got an avocado shake with boba, which was really nice on a hot summer day. More than anything, though, I like this place because it feels like somewhere you can actually linger. I see lots of people working on laptops here, and it has that increasingly rare café feeling where you want to sit down and stay. (And not be shooed out.) Cafe Lava and Bento is definitely a place I'd come back to, especially for the atmosphere and that delicious bánh mì bread.

They are not skimpy with the matcha (it's perfectly strong!) and the jasmine was a nice compliment to the matcha. The half sweet (which is the default) was a good choice because full sweetness would've been too sweet. My boyfriend got the iced honey jasmine milk tea and don't let the white color fool you because the jasmine is fragrant and strong as well. This one was also half sweet and again, it's perfect. The drinks came out quick (under 5 min) and I was given a free sticker sheet for their opening. The price is reasonable too- about $6 for 16 oz, plus today was BOGO :) There's a few tables for sitting but if it fills up, there are plenty around the novo marketplace. They have a lot of unique flavors which I definitely want to try next time. I'm going to be honest and say this might've dethroned Heytea as my #1. Trust me and come visit!

My absolute favorite drink was the Mango Pomelo - so refreshing, fruity, smooth, and perfect for summer. For coffee, my favorites were the Pandan Coco Latte and the Pampas Blue Coco Latte. The Pandan Coco Latte had such a smooth, subtle vanilla-like sweetness from the pandan that paired perfectly with the creamy coconut milk. The Pampas Blue Coco Latte was also incredibly smooth, rich, and creamy--another drink I'd happily order again. For a lil sweet treat, we ordered the Egg Waffle Sundae, which was the perfect thing for a hot summer day in Allston I already have a list of drinks I want to come back for, including the Matcha Red Bean Latte, Pandan Mango Coco Frappé, and their variety of milk teas.
