I've now got my fourth pair of Vivobarefoot shoes. They are that comfortable. My recommendation would be to go with the shoes that have a thicker sole as I find walking on hard surfaces on minimal soles is still quite a shock to my system. My latest pair - a salmon-colored waterproof shoe - was reduced from 200 to 120 pounds. I guess salmon isn't everyone's favorite color? Poor company ethos I put off going to the USA from the UK when I was invited to a Vivobarefoot marketing event in London. Their supposed company ethos is in-line with my business, so I was interested to meet the people and learn more. About 100 people had to sit for over an hour and listen to a man who is a spokesperson for Vivobarefoot but much of what he said didn't ring true with me. I researched him afterwards and it turns out he is a fraud. His face and name appear on the Vivobarefoot website and they are using him as a marketing tool and he is no doubt using them to make money. I have not bought any Vivobarefoot shoes (some pairs were promised to me for free) but they look too flimsy for my daily life. The first contradiction with this company is in the name - Vivobarefoot means 'Living bare foot' but they are selling a shoe...which isn't being bare foot. Secondly the members of the company I spoke with were highly pretentious and had no time for me (The Public Relations company they employ on the other hand were very courteous and polite). Thirdly I cannot endorse this company in my publication, they are only interested in themselves, it's a typical capitalist company, it's all about money and their general attitude is of little respect, going by other negative reviews here. Their ethos is of good intent but I didn't feel or see it, it's all hot air. They say they are nature and nature is them, it's a load of old twoddle. I have pretty shoes! Actually they are sandals but still they are beautiful and my little trotters look a lot prettier in them than my DMs. The great thing about this place is all the shoes are designed for comfort as well as design, you can also wear them with a clear conscious as their own brand is made from recycled materials with a tiny carbon footprint. All in all this is pretty cool shoe shop for all of these elements. The place is small and there are probably about 70 styles to choose from, including some Clarkes but that makes it easier when buying. The helpful staff, don't put pressure on you and let you try on what you want. This shop, previously a Terra Plana shop that had a section containing some of its Vivobarefoot shoes, has reopened as a dedicated Vivobarefoot retailer. Fans of the barefoot running/walking/living revolution can rejoice, as they'll find the full range of Vivobarefoot styles available here. Delightful. On my visits - which have been many because I am a woman obsessed with shoes, let's be honest - I've found the staff members to be particularly helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and - most importantly - enthusiastic about Vivobarefoot technology. As for the shoes themselves, they're total quality. Getting used to walking in barefoot shoes can take a bit of perseverance, but luckily Vivobarefoot shoes come with a removable memory foam insert to ease you into things. Vivobarefoot shoes are meant to be worn without this insert; their inside seams are, well, as if seamless, so they're incredibly comfortable. Every pair of shoes comes with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, so if you buy some, walk around in them for 30 days and then decide that they're just not for you, you can take them back so long as you've kept the receipt. Better yet, if something goes wrong with your shoes within a year, you can take them into the shop and get them to either repair your shoes or give you a new pair. I got a pair of canvas boat shoes in August and the rubber on the side of the right shoe seems to be separating from the canvas - something that I'm used to experiencing with Converse lowtops. I was really pleased with the service I had here today. The sales staff was actually friendly and helpful without being overbearing or completely ignoring my presence and then acting like it is a huge bother to help me when I ask for something, as happens to me a lot while shoe shopping. I went in looking for Terra Plana's Vivo Barefoot shoes. The sales woman was super knowledgeable about the products and very attentive. This store also had a better selection of shoes than a previous Terra Plana location I had visited earlier in the week. Terra Plana sell the funkiest shoes I have seen. The heels appear to be attached in mid air, or are hollow, and there are holes in random places. The stock is all independent, you won't find any high street brands in here. This is great for anyone who is fed up of walking into a shop and finding it filled with much the same stuff as can be found in 50 other places within half a kilometre as is so common in the UK. If you are not into interesting footwear, it is still worth a look, if only to give yourself some idea of what is out there. Terra Plana stands out in Covent Garden as a shoe shop with a difference. They have interesting and designs bursting with character for both men and women. Rather than following the high-street fashion trends this shop stands out as creating its own fashion, using only independent designers. One design that stood out to me was a leather boot with a foldable leg - so it could be rolled down and worn at two heights, I'm not sure I'd wear them, but they're certainly interesting. With oddly shaped heels and combinations of material, Terra Plana aims to provide attractive foot-ware that is sustainable, good for your feet, and for the environment. They use fabrics especially to enable breathing through the shoe, as well as recycled materials such as leather from car seats and bicycle tyres. On top of this many of the designers operate fair trade programs and employ previously untrained and unskilled women to give them work. So, you can avoid getting stinky feet, feel confident you can turn up to a party and three other people won't be wearing the same heels as you, and achieve a cool look with a guilt-free conscience. If I could add zero stars I would. This shop is staffed by a bunch of cliquey, self righteous, passive aggressive, and downright unhelpful people. Went in today with my 3 year old (a happy kid who is, sadly, like LOADS of kids, very anti-shoe shopping) because he has been happy in the last two pairs of their t-bar sandals. But because they wear out faster than his feet grow (and they're not cheap as kids shoes go) I had to get a replacement pair. I went in knowing exactly what shoe I wanted and gave the staff a vague size. Instead of going and getting the shoes straightaway the four staff members milled about the shop. So much so I wondered if they'd heard me. I took my sons shoes off to check size but the label had gone. This sparked a protest from my son but I calmed him down quite quickly. In the background a shop "assistant" loudly says "what am awful noise!!" Presumably referencing my little boy. I didn't look at her but it was delivered with the sort of tone that sounded like it had an accompanying eye-roll. I must add, that although he was crying, he was not causing any other sort of disturbance, messing up the displays or moving chairs about or anything else. He just didn't want new shoes because he likes his old ones a lot. Despite the holes. Eventually some pairs arrive and I do my best to try them on my little one who is crying again because he doesn't want to take the original pair off. I got zero assistance in fitting them, not even an offer of help. One pair I got on him seemed alright but as I'm not a shoe fitting expert I wasn't sure. He's crying again, loudly and I can feel everyone bristling and it's making me feel super uncomfortable. (This -incidentally - doesn't speed up the recovery from crying process...) I then end up snapping at my distraught child for crying and when he stops the same shop assistant says loudly "thank god that's stopped". That's nice. Made me feel completely valued as a customer. Not. I decide not to risk spending money on an unknown style of shoe which due to having received no fitting help with I'm not sure fits or not and head to the till with the matching tbars to his existing shoes. At the till I said to the shop assistant that I felt that they had been rather unhelpful and certainly hadn't been kind, helpful or sympathetic to me as a customer. They'd made me feel unwelcome, and like a nuisance. She replied with a completely undisguised sneer that my son making a fuss had made their OTHER customers have a bad experience and that it was my fault. I said that they didn't need to be rude to me and I felt really defensive of my son for whom chucking a shop strop is really rare. I also pointed out that WE are customers too but she was unmoved. Presumably because I am not some worthy looking outdoorsy type spending £145 on a pair of specialist rock-climbing shoes (although ironically I have parted with £45 in three instalments to these people, this being our third pair... This was lost on the hatchet job manning the till. If a customer is complaining, surely just smooth things over (they'll leave in a minute) don't make them feel even worse!!) Any the end of the day if you manufacture and sell children's shoes, you need to accept that parents might venture in to buy them. Staff need to be welcoming and accepting of the odd upset child. Shoe buying seems to be traumatic for kids. I dunno why. I love buying shoes. ;) Specialist kids shoe shops totally get this upsetting aspect of and even go so far as to say nice soothing/distracting things to upset young shoe customers. I know, beyond the call of duty huh? I felt like i'd intruded on a clique of rather up themselves climbers instead of a shop with assistants in it, and that I also made the mistake of expecting to be treated with some courtesy and respect. I also feel rather silly for having reinforced their appalling service by purchasing anything from them. I shan't be buying from them again. read more

So first, the motto of Terra Plana is that they make sustainable shoes. They "try hard to use a variety of eco-friendly materials and innovative minimal glue constructions." Love it. Even was a fan of the heels that were originally £100 and reduced to just £10... (price AND environment). However, take just a few steps back into the belly of the store, and you come across United Nude. Shoes that are probably the most unsustainable, un-ecofriendly shoes I've seen in a while. The shoes are literally plastic, metal, glue, dynamite! Are they joking? Is it two stores merged into one as a result of some weird scheme? But with the kaleidoscope colors, and gravity defying heels, I will admit, I wanted a pair. Bad. And then after United Nude display of awesomeness, the recycled shoes looked, well.... recycled. This product is truly fabulous. I have my first pair of barefoot shoes and the have really helped arthritis in my toe joint. I now have much more movement in my joints and my balance is really something to be proud of. In using these shoes my posture has become really good and I can feel that my knee joints are no longer taking the brunt of a heal strike. I let my feet and calf muscles get used to them slowly and I'm about to buy a pair or walking boots because there is nothing quite like squelching through mud! read more

Terra Plana sells moon shoes. If I were set to rocket into outer space this evening I would definitely be wearing a pair of heels from this store. They sell ultra modern, ultra bizarre footwear. The main brand that they push is United Nude. Their shoes look like pliable plastic and they're in a kaleidoscope of loud colours. I appreciate this kind of style, but I like to wear classic, down to earth heels, so this store is definitely not for me. If you're on a different style orbit and you're into transgressive, progressive out of this world fashion then you're in for a treat if you visit this shop. read more

I have worn vivobarefoot hiking boots for several years, despite the fact that they have fallen apart after a year and a half both times. I still buy expensive new ones because they are so comfortable. Recently however the hiking boots appear to be made differently with a smaller toe box, and one sole noticeably thinner than the other. I have bought the same size as always, my feet are not growing, but this pair is NOT comfortable. I have been trying to get some resolution on this issue for nearly a month. First I'm told to send photos, and then I'm told I have been referred to the design team and nothing has happened. The boots are $240 and they should fit properly. Like Previous review, they are sooo not into customer service, never mind, but they can't even bend their body to fit customer's shoes. My child 4 years old was not crying or was not misbehaving. A shop assistant just brought two sizes I asked for, I put them on my son, and let him walk. Still no sign of customers service - asking nothing or checking nothing until I asked the staff to check the fitting. yet the staff didn't bother to check the size with a pair of insole that come with the school shoes we bought. I only realised the insole when I opened the box at home after 1 hr train journey with my 4. Obviously, with the insole, the fitting is different. I phone the shop to discuss the sizes the staff who checked the shoes without the insole. Apparently " it's up to customer's choice" so what are the staff for? I am a busy working parent and really disappointed to make so much effort to go to the shop with my son, hoping to have a proper fitting done. I should have bought them online - other online shops offer the vivobarefoot kids shoes cheaper than anyway. All the staff at the Covent Garden today seems that they were not interested in people. Good concept and good shoes, my son loves - we were probably lucky with the previous customer service that we had last time. The man wasn't there - he had a child so he was good with my son, did a proper fitting.... but sorry I don't think I will make any more effort to come to the shop.
