**This review only reflects the work done by Patrick, and not the rest of the salon** Prior to my haircut, I spent the better part of 2 years growing out my hair to achieve my "dream hair" at the salon. I have thick hair and I would describe my hair as a blank canvas for the most part before my appointment with Patrick. I carefully selected him after viewing other Portland salons and his reviews were all positive at the time. Unfortunately calling this my worst haircut is an understatement. I've received better haircuts at the local super clips than I did with him. Not only did he take off 6+ inches off in length (that I NEVER agreed to -- I love having long hair). He also gave me incredibly uneven layers that frankly look like complete S#%T. The layers were straight despite me asking for a V shape. So I have these awkward ledges that I'm still constantly having to hide. My bangs were also butchered and one side was twice as thick as the other side. I seriously don't see how he found this acceptable -- there's no way he didn't realize how uneven they were. Frankly his work striked me as amateur. Yet he had an incredibly high price that does NOT reflect the quality of work received. Charging someone almost $200 (after my "discount") for a haircut and styling is insane. But honestly I don't care about the money. I care about my hair and how I still need to wait another 5 months (to be back at my old length) before I can get it fixed. Seeing him was the worst mistake i've made in a long time involving my hair. I cant remember the last time I was this disappointed leaving a salon. Truly this was the only time I left a salon feeling uglier than before I walked in. The reason why I write this post is to help prevent other people from getting a terrible haircut. Saved me many times from catastrophic occasions were I thought I could cut my own bangs, ends (not even), or color my roots, she never judged, just fixed it & reminded me not everyone can fo hair. I had Aryka cut my hair a month ago. I initially was happy with the cut for the first day but then the next day and the next week the cut was honestly not what I was looking for. My hair grows extremely fast and the grow out of the haircut was looking extremely sloppy. I'm a very simple person who doesn't style my hair. The cut that I was given was too time consuming for me to style. I did tell her that I don't style my hair at all and after the haircut she blew dry my hair to style. I don't do that. I flat iron my hair. Why wouldn't she style it the way that I style my hair? In short I really hated the cut but I tried to make the best of it but the what I was trying to make of it wasn't working. I was lying to myself just because I wanted to be nice and I paid for the cut. However I am writing this review not because of the cut but because of how I was treated after the cut. I sent an email to Aryka explaining to her what I didn't like about the cut and I asked for a refund - during the haircut she did state that if I didn't like the cut I could have a full refund. She responded to my email stating that she couldn't give me a refund because I asked for a refund after two weeks and if I wanted to the refund I would have to have her fix the haircut. She failed to inform me in detail of her refund policy. Why would I let the person that gave me a haircut that I hated fix my hair? Also why was she not clear on her refund policies with me during the haircut? So I was never given my refund due to her refund policy that she never informed me about. Honestly this review is not being written because of the bad haircut but because of the unclear and dishonest communication on her refund policy. Also her refund policy is far more convenient and beneficial for her as a stylist but not much so convenient or beneficial for her clients. In my opinion this is poor customer service. I have been going to Aryka for about 5 months now, and let me tell you- she is amazing. I have never had so many people compliment my platinum blonde hair! She has done many colors with my hair, but I decided to keep it blonde. I love my short hair so much, and she always nails it with her cut and bleaching. She knows what she is doing, is very professional, flexible and really fun to hang out with. I have modeled for her on several occasions and she is nothing short of a sweetheart. Seriously, I wouldnt trust anyone else with my hair. I have naturally thin hair and want someone who knows what they are doing.. and Aryka does. Plus- she is affordable! I have paid over 65+ dollars for a short pixie cut in the past, and I find it really cool that Aryka offers such great rates that dont cost me an arm and a leg. I've been getting not only my hair cut and colored by Arykah for nearly a year now, but my boyfriend and my son both go to her as well. My son and I in particular are very picky and pretty high maintenance about how we want our hair done and Arykah always delivers exactly what we want. She is especially knowledgable about color and how to achieve really creative, interesting looks. She's very meticulous with her cuts and I never ever feel rushed or like she's trying to just get to the next customer like I've felt at some of the other shops in town. Like most people, I'm extremely picky about my hair color. I'm a hair stylist myself, so I've just been doing my own hair. However, last time, I messed up. I needed to find someone who really knows fashion/vivid hair colors, as I like my hair to have an ombré effect of silver to purple. I'm very particular about how it's done. I researched Aryka and decided that she would be a good potential colorist. After sitting in her chair, I think I've underestimated her abilities!
