I think this should probably be more like 18 or $19, realistically. This alone would probably prevent me from coming here much even though I thoroughly enjoyed the food. 2. I love bread but their rolls were disappointing and I think Italian places should really shine here. Maybe a nice, fresh focaccia or something. The bread was a hard, square roll... Maybe ciabatta? We continued to eat with flashlights on. No big deal - we realize the storm isn't the fault of the restaurant. It's the way the manager handled it. I wanted my daughter to be able to get back on the road safely so we asked for a box and a slice of cheesecake. We assured them we weren't leaving - just her. We were informed that the manager did not want to give us the cheesecake "because we may not be making any money tonight and he doesn't want to give away more food." Ok, cool. Then we were asked to write down our credit card numbers and told that they would "charge us and email us our bill". We said absolutely not, that we would be happy to give them our name, email, phone, etc - but I am not writing my credit card information down on a slip of paper that will just float around in the dark. Not once did the manager stop by and talk to any tables - and let me be clear, there were only 4-5 tables with people. He made everyone feel as though we were thieves and were planning to run out without paying. He put his servers in impossible positions of having to come to us with us this message instead of coming and speaking directly to the tables that were currently there. Thankfully we had cash or I genuinely think if we'd tried to leave - even though we'd offered our contact info - he would've called the cops. Terrible customer service. We had planned to meet at 5:30pm, but due to a slightly delayed adventure buddy situation, we walked in closer to 5:45pm -- right at peak "everyone else had the same idea" time. The place was absolutely PACKED. There was one table left in the main dining area (which we grabbed immediately), though we were told there was additional seating in another room. From our table out front, we had a full view of the action...which turned out to be both entertaining and a little telling. Going into the evening, I had already done my homework (because of course I did) and had spent the week narrowing down my order. Everything on the menu sounded incredible, but I ultimately landed on the Broccoli & Sausage Pizza Bianche -- a white pizza topped with mozzarella, broccoli, sausage, chili oil, and burrata. My adventure buddy chose the standard cheesesteak (hoagie roll, onions, provolone), which was exactly the level of culinary risk I expected from him. It quickly became clear that Nonna Ilva was significantly understaffed that evening. We waited about 15 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order, and the three staff members we saw were absolutely hustling -- managing the dining room, takeout orders, and a steady stream of DoorDash pickups. They were working hard, but there were simply too many customers for the team on hand. When our server did make it over, we placed both our drink and food orders at the same time to avoid any additional delays. About 20 minutes later, the cheesesteak arrived -- hot and solid, though a bit more straightforward than expected. Nonna Ilva cares about white pizza. This was hands down one of the best white pizzas I've ever had. Perfectly balanced, flavorful, and clearly crafted with intention. The chili oil brought just the right amount of heat, the sausage and broccoli were generous and well-distributed, and the burrata? Game changer. I've never seen another local spot incorporate burrata into a white pizza like this, and it absolutely made the dish. This is the white pizza I've been searching for. The kind I will go out of my way to come back for again and again. Unfortunately, the service side of the experience just didn't match the quality of the food that night. The staff was clearly overwhelmed, and it showed throughout the entire visit. Even paying the bill proved to be a challenge -- we eventually walked up to the register and waited in line with DoorDash drivers just to close out. We still left a good tip because the effort was there -- the team was working hard -- but the overall experience inside the restaurant felt chaotic. Marzoni's has been serving wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, pasta and an impressive selection of craft beers for years, but on this particular day there was only one thing on my mind...the Crab Rangoon Pizza. Of course we ordered a large. A short while later, our server rounded the corner carrying our pizza...and I'm pretty sure audibly squealed. At the very least, my mouth fell open and I was speechless, which is an absolute miracle! It was real! And it was BEAUTIFUL! The crust was perfectly baked with those wonderful blistered bubbles that tell you it's going to be good before you even take a bite. It was topped with creamy cheese, generous chunks of crab and crispy wonton strips that made it unmistakably crab rangoon...just in pizza form. We gave it a minute to cool...and then I took my first bite. Holy. Cow. It actually tasted exactly like crab rangoon! The creamy filling, the sweet crab, the crispy wonton strips...somehow it all worked together perfectly. It was one of those foods where your brain spends the first few bites trying to figure out how something this weird can taste this right. I happily devoured my entire slice and immediately started negotiating with myself about whether I should have another. Or another. Or maybe slices three through ten. My Responsible Adult Self (who is a complete buzzkill sometimes) eventually won that argument, but only because I still had more adventures planned for the day. PRO TIP: Come hungry or bring friends. The large pizza makes plenty, and you'll almost certainly be happy to have leftovers once you realize how good it is. This might be a "plain" in terms of toppings, but it's anything but plain in flavor. I actually prefer it sans pepperoni because it's a lot less greasy and there's a lot to savor there that meat eclipses. It's also a generous amount of food if you're hungry and want leftovers, usually they're just as great the next day. I might not be able to return to regular crust! In fact, I was full after one slice, but I really wanted more. I have no idea how they get the perfectly baked texture throughout, but I have no doubt in my mind Marcello's is an amazing choice for a pie. If you're new to the area, you won't be disappointed. But appearance alone doesn't make a great restaurant. Service does! And the service we received was friendly, attentive, polished, and thoroughly professional. The staff demonstrated that wonderful balance of being readily available without being intrusive, allowing us to relax and thoroughly enjoy our evening. THE CULINARY EXPERIENCE We began our evening by sampling four appetizers, each offering its own delightful interpretation of Italian cuisine. The Tre Polpette al Sugo featured three exceptionally tender, house-made meatballs simmered in marinara sauce and finished with shaved Parmigiano. What impressed me most was the wonderful combination of flavors. You could actually distinguish the pork, veal, and beef in the mixture, creating a depth of flavor that elevated these meatballs well beyond the ordinary. The Mozzarella Fritta was equally impressive! Forget the typical mozzarella sticks found at most restaurants. These were substantial, beautifully prepared large triangles of lightly battered mozzarella that practically oozed melted cheese when cut open. Accompanied by a rich, thick marinara sauce, they were absolutely delightful! The Classic Tomato Bruschetta was another winner, featuring wonderfully fresh tomatoes, basil, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, and balsamic. Beautifully and elegantly presented, it was as pleasing to the eye as it was to the palate. And then there was the Shrimp Cocktail! These were truly COLOSSAL shrimp, beautifully presented and curled into the most unusual, almost sculptural shapes. I've enjoyed shrimp cocktails at many fine restaurants, but I honestly cannot recall ever seeing shrimp presented quite like these! Accompanied by the restaurant's creamy house cocktail sauce, enhanced with herbs, orange zest, and a touch of spice, they made quite an impression. Our dinners also included fresh Caesar salads and bread accompanied by seasoned olive oil for dipping. For our entrées, we both selected the Shrimp & Scallops Amalfi Coast, a delicious combination of shrimp and scallops served over linguine in a delightful lemon-garlic butter sauce. The presentation was beautiful, our meals arrived piping hot, and the portions were exceptionally generous! In fact, between our wonderful assortment of appetizers and those substantial entrées, we both needed take-home containers! And isn't it lovely when a fine-dining establishment provides not only exceptional quality but portions generous enough to enjoy again the following day? SERVICE THAT DESERVES RECOGNITION Throughout the evening, we found ourselves appreciating not only the quality of the food but also the care and professionalism evident in the service and overall dining experience. We were so impressed that we made a point of personally complimenting the staff, telling them that their service and hospitality were truly top-notch. Having experienced fine dining at some of North America's most distinguished establishments, I can say that the level of gracious hospitality we encountered at Visaggio's was entirely consistent with the standards we have come to appreciate. A WORD ABOUT THE CHANGE IN OWNERSHIP I realize that changes in restaurant ownership can sometimes be accompanied by growing pains, and I certainly cannot speak to the experiences of other diners. However, I can speak to ours, and it was outstanding. Visaggio's has been a five-star dining destination for years, and based on our recent visit, I see every reason to believe that tradition can continue under its new ownership. To those who may be hesitant because of recent reviews, I would encourage you to give Visaggio's an opportunity to earn your patronage. We certainly were not disappointed!
