Stopped in yesterday for a bite. My first impression was that it looked like a nice, clean establishment. That's always a good thing. I ordered 2 slices of pepperoni, a 10 pc of boneless wings with honey mustard, and an ice water to drink. The girl behind the counter and handed me a cup and told me I could get ice from the soda fountain but that she would pour my water. I asked her about the water from the soda fountain and she said it's salt water. Huh? Maybe she meant selzer water and had a brain fart. I put some ice in my cup, handed it back to her and she filled it with tap water. Um, ok. She gave me the cup and I had a seat.
A few minutes later the girl brought the slices out to me. They were pretty good size and had an appropriate amount of grease dripping off of them. I looked on my table for some seasonings (garlic salt, oregano, parm, etc) and none were to be found. They have a small station set up next to the counter along with a napkin dispenser. I thought it was kind of inconvenient to have table service and then make the customer walk back across the joint to get their condiments and napkins. Not having those things available at each table seems like the owner is being a little cheap, imo. There aren't many tables in there. Wouldn't cost much at all for the owner to invest in a dozen small napkin dispensers and some shakers. It's not a big place though so it's not like I had to walk a mile to get what I wanted.
Pizza was nice and hot, but not so hot you couldn't eat it right away and had a decent amount of pepperoni on top. All in all, it was pretty good. Not the best I've ever had but definitely far from the worst.
Just as I was finishing my slices, the wings came out. I could tell by looking at them that I was going to be disappointed. I'm 99% sure that the honey mustard that was used was Sweet Baby Ray's. I have a bottle of it in my fridge at all times, I know what it looks and tastes like and this looked and tasted a hell of a lot like SBR. SBR is great when I'm cooking at home, but I expect something a little better/different when I eat out. It was also just poured over the wings, rather than in a bowl and then swirling the wings around to evenly coat them all over. The wings themselves were a decent size, but I found the breading to be extremely thick and too crispy/crunchy. It was the kind of breading that scratches the roof of your mouth when you're chewing. A good boneless wing should have a thin layer of breading and be fairly tender all around.
All in all, my experience here was pretty good. Staff was friendly and pleasant enough and it was a clean, tidy place. Would definitely stop back in for another slice or 2, but I'd be hesitant to order their wings again and I'll probably just bring my own bottle of water. read more
