Vitoli Landscaping built a retaining wall and drainage system at my home and did an excellent job. The work was done right, the wall matches the stucco on the house, and everything looks clean and well thought out. Communication was solid the entire time. WORST COMPANY you could ever hope to find. If there were a reality show for the most incompetent construction company with the lowest ethical business practices, Vitoli would win by a landslide. Speaking of landslides, the infinity spa they built on our hill was done incorrectly so needs to be rebuilt so as to not send chlorinated water rushing down the mountain with each use. For now, we have to limit to two people despite its 10 person capacity. Yeah, and that's just the beginning. We had a $220,000 budget to build a dream yard in an estimated 6 months, but they built all of the retaining walls incorrectly so add an 18-month delay as we sorted out problems with permitting, during which time much of the existing part of the yard was damaged. They forgot to run a water line to the sink and ice maker in the outdoor kitchen rendering them useless, put the incorrectly built walls in the wrong place entirely, built a fence that fell down...for a more complete list please see attached photos. When we hired them, they promised a foreman would be on site at all times but in fact, they had a project manager on site only about 10% of the time and I'm being generous. We loved the workers and I would wake up early each morning to bake breakfast treats and brew coffee for them, however they would often come to us in confusion for direction without a foreman, but we had a language barrier even my best intentions couldn't overcome and grave mistakes were made. Each attempt at demanding said foreman only yielded increasingly angry calls from the owner, who went so far as to call us racists, sometimes with threats of leaving the project or suing us. We paid in full as projects were completed as per our contract, all $220K, but were not refunded for the many parts done incorrectly, and were instead made promises that simply weren't kept. With no less than $50K left to do, we finally kicked them off of our property when they started refusing to complete items -- we simply decided to remove the toxicity from our lives. Particularly evil was their pool equipment installer Bernardo who we caught in multiple lies and who was wont to covering his high level of incompetence by accusing us of "sabotaging our own project." Absolutely ludicrous, yes, but the owner went with it, I suppose it was easier than dealing with more wretched errors on their part. Meanwhile, if there was a corner that could be cut, they found it, and always at our expense. When we first were shut down by the county, I looked here on Yelp and to my dismay, found many negative reviews. They have since disappeared somehow so before writing my review, I reached out to YELP corporate, who assured me mine would remain. As I try to enjoy my unfinished dream yard, it occurs to me that all I can do at this point is protect as many people as I can from falling victim to companies such as Vitoli. Had I been smarter I would have asked for references or gone with a company recommended to me. Beware The Home Mag as they don't vet their advertisers at all, they don't even require proof that photos used are actually work done by said company, they need nothing but the ad copy and money to qualify and so I would argue that the companies that advertise in The Home Mag are ones whose work doesn't merit a good referral and so they advertise instead. Vitoli often graces their cover, which makes sense... The owner promised to fix it all, said he'd take care of us and we believed him to be sincere. But now all I have left is an unfinished yard and no funds to finish it. Shameful, but all true. I believe I know exactly what the response to this review will be, but I will endure it for the sake of helping others. This review is way overdue, but better late than never. Vitoli redid our entire backyard, soup to nuts in 2022. This involved: adding a pool, putting in long retaining and block walls, completely rebuilding a cement deck and rails, adding drainage and irrigation, new pavers, grass and landscaping, and putting in a large pergola. Rob, Kyle, Oz, Gabi and everyone on the construction teams did an amazing job. Even before we settled on a builder, Vitoli stood out because everyone was upfront about what's possible, helped steer us away from our own bad ideas, and we appreciated their core expertise on outdoor landscaping/hardscaping/pool projects. Vitoli expertly managed to work with the various curveballs the city threw our way, and set our expectations appropriately. When construction started, everyone communicated effectively, and it really felt like a team effort when we would aim to solve some problem or adjust course because something unexpected came up (which is only inevitable on a large project). Proper drainage was extremely important to me, as the backyard had no drainage to speak of -- Rob and team were even more obsessive about this than me, and the results speak for themselves as the backyard had zero water issues after the extreme rainfall we had a few months ago. The thing I really appreciate about working with Vitoli is that they care about creating a long term relationship via mutual understanding and respect. One thing I dreaded before starting a project this size is having to argue with my builder over every little thing. I was happy that I didn't have to do any of that with Vitoli. We've been enjoying our new backyard - it's incredible how much of a change it is, how much the kids love the pool, and how many memories we can make with friends and family over an outdoor dinner. Subsequent to our backyard project, Vitoli was very helpful in quickly and efficiently fixing an drainage issue near the side of our house surfaced by the rains this season (unrelated to any backyard work Vitoli did previously). The house we moved into a year and a half ago had a mess of overgrown ivy and ugly or water intensive plants everywhere and a complicated hill side above a retaining wall. We had paid for the online landscape design from Yardzen and Vitoli was their preferred/vetted contractor in the area. We received a couple local quotes on the project and ultimately agreed that Vitoli seemed the most capable of delivering on the vision of our design. Vitoli gutted our entire landscape, removing tough oleander root balls and half dozen other tough shrubs on our steep hillside. They expertly executed the design, keeping us informed of timeline and checking in on site regularly. Aviv, our Project Manager, was very communicative throughout the entire project and helped us replace any unavailable materials for our design. We now have the exact outdoor space we dreamed of, with a beautiful selection of drought tolerant plants on drip irrigation. We opted to paint the concrete walkways and stucco walls, and install the wood feature ourselves to save a bit of money. That being said their friendly, considerate and hardworking team did ALL the hard work in some pretty intense heat. They were reliable and on time every morning, occasionally working late to keep the project on schedule. The pictures call out that walls and sidewalk/patio were painted by us so you don't judge Vitoli on the paint quality . Where to begin... Like most I spent weeks researching and reading reviews on local hardscape/landscape businesses. I was able to narrow my searching down to 4. After quotes and interviewing the contractors I ended up going with Vitoli for the work I needed done. My first impressions were rock solid based off Ozzy seeing my vision, for creating a more modern space while having room for entertainment and playing area for my kids. Once I was onboard there was zero pressure and pricing for what was needed was by far better than other competitors, especially since Vitoli could do everything without farming out to subcontractors. I had my own 3rd design I put together but when their team showed me a virtual layout with their VR headset I was blown away. How cool is that!!! Once demo started I knew I was in it all the way. Rob's team was amazing. On time every day, cleaned up afterwards and even answered some of my annoying questions. I will say I'm a bit of a perfectionist and love learning things so most of the time I would just watch and admire the hard work Rob's team was doing. As we started to get down to paver ordering I started to look at the layout and the plans Vitoli put together based off their rendering. I made some modifications prior to paver and turf ordering so I wanted to run it by Rob. After our conversation Rob came out to assess and was totally cool with my changes. Not many companies will allow you to make changes post plans without a charge. What's most impressive was me being told the project would take 3 weeks! My friends, family and myself was like impossible. Vitoli literally completed in 3 weeks. I'm talking gazebo demo, 15 thousand pounds of brick, 2 tree removals, new retaining wall, footer pouring for my pergola "yes I designed stained and assembled with help from Robs team getting the post up", and new pavers. To sum it up these guys are freaking awesome and it's more of a relationship/ friendship with Rob and his team since they started. I'm truly sad to see them go. Vitoli was hired to do hardscape planting, and irrigation in 2022. The landscape plan, which was part of the contract, called for a two semi-dwarf espalier fruit trees trained on wire between two posts. The trees did not come espalier and there were numerous other problems with the planting. We agreed to a account credit settlement and Vitoli was to insert the posts and run the wire. I would arrange to have the trees pruned and trained to the wires. I was told numerous times that a crew would come out to insert the posts and run the wires. I finally gave up. Now two years later, I find that the trees are not semi-dwarf but regular height trees which will not fit in the small space allotted. I called Rob Litman, the owner and he said he would have a crew come out in a couple of days and replace the trees. They did not show up and I again called Rod. He said that the nursery had delivered the wrong trees and it would have to be resolved with the nursery. After about a month, I sent Rob an email explaining that the dispute between the nursery and Vitoli was irrelevant. I listed many of the problems that had occurred with the planting 2 years ago. I asked that Vitoli remove the trees and plant the espaliered trees along with the posts and wires as per contract. He immediately called me, yelled at me over the phone, said he was going to have his attorney go after me He ranted and raved for about 10 minutes - I could not get a word in edgewise. Someone with his temperament and demeanor should never ever be in business. read more

The design team listened to our goals and developed a world class design that perfectly fit the unique shape of our yard and our budget. They put together an incredible VR presentation that allowed us to visualize every detail of our new yard. The Vitoli team advertises themselves as hillside specialists and our yard challenged them in many ways; a steep unstable hillside, a narrow triangular shaped yard, and literally decades of dirt and deep established palm and pine roots. we called Vitoli to get a qoute for a new pool and some landscaping work done in one of our properties . Jonathan came out and gave an estimate, it wasn't the cheapest but i will give him credit for being the most detailed and specific one . My wife and I decided to go with Jonathan after meeting a few other contractors ,some gave lower bids . but I am a person who believes that you have to pay for quality and trusting your contractor is a priority. Vitoli Landscaping recently finished a complete backyard renovation at my new home, and the finished product is exactly what I imagined. Rob, Jordan and the rest of the team worked hard to meet my budget, and complete our job within an extremely tight deadline (6 weeks in total, right up until the day we had our 2nd child!). My project was large in scale, and included the following: 1) Demolition of the entire backyard including grading and drainage 2) New landscaping and drip lines throughout the entire backyard. Rob helped preserve our 7 fruit trees and added his personal touch and expertise to new plant additions 2) Pavers were installed to create a L-shaped patio 3) Putting green installed (my personal favorite) 4) Fire pit area was built and installed 5) Installation and consultation for pre-fabricated grill 6) In-ground gas lines were run to fire pit and grill 5) In-ground lighting through landscaping 6) Artificial Turf for remaining backyard area The scale of my job could have been a personal headache and painful experience, but it was the opposite. Jordan lead the project for my home, and he provided great customer service and management. Rob (Owner) was also very involved, and continues to follow up my job (2-3 months since completion). If there was an issue during the job, or after, Rob has been quick to address any concerns and adjust the work accordingly. I can confidently say that Vitoli is all about their clients happiness. As an example, during one of Rob's post-completion visits, he added turf to a small side yard that I forgot about during the main job at no additional cost. When we moved in, we knew we had a huge project on our hands. The yard consisted of a steep unshaped hill, full of dirt, trash and dead vegetation. It also needed an entirely new irrigation system. We couldn't even imagine how to begin landscaping it. After listening to our wants and needs, Shay and his team came up with a great design for our yard. My husband called Vitoli after receiving an old-school flyer in the mail so we were skeptical at the start. Kevin initially came out to discuss our needs, which included redoing our front and back landscaping, installing turf in the front and back yards, redoing the landscaping on the hill next to the pool, removal of a large, problematic tree, and building a new patio. As promised, Kevin contacted us to schedule a follow up appointment a few days later, during which he presented us with a bound proposal, call it a menu of options, which he walked through with us. We had an opportunity to review the cost of each option and select what fit into our budget. After speaking with a few references (all glowing), we made the decision to go with Vitoli. One week later, Kevin, Ricardo and Danielle came to discuss design details and put together a 3D story board of the plan for our project, which they did not charge extra for. As people who do not have an eye for design, my husband and I appreciated being able to visualize what the plan was. We also had the ability to brainstorm with the Vitoli team on the location and size of the new patio and turf areas during this phase. One of the most fun experiences was visiting the nursery with Rob. He is exactly what you want in your landscape designer. He knows everything about every type of plant and flower and emphasized the importance of creating a landscape that we would love, without compromising the fundamentals of design. He looked for our reaction to textures, colors and fragrances to truly understand what would make us happy. We also expressed an interest in building an herb garden for our 10-year-old son, an idea that Rob embraced and involved our son in. After the drought and limited landscape watering in 2022 we lost our front lawn and side hill ground cover. We hired Rob and Vitoli Builders who are hillside specialists. We were impressed with Rob's enthusiasm, knowledge, and attention to customer communication. He came up with a plan for us and the project was executed in a reasonable time frame. He communicated with us daily and had the project monitored three times daily to ensure things were going to plan or to address any needs . Sad to say that although Kevin came out and was professional and courteous, the quote I received was much higher than expected and when I asked to go ahead with part of the work I was told there is a 4K minimum. The works I wanted done was just under 4K and I was told they could probably do the work during their quiet season (which didnt exactly make me feel like a valuable client but I understood ). I was told they would get in contact in December and I've heard nothing. Really disappointed. I've since heard from the owner who was very apologetic and sincere and explained how Kevin is no longer with the company and this must have fallen through the cracks. A right what is truthful about an experience my husband is the one who dealt with you and that is why you do not have me in record. So so happy with my backyard remodeling. First, I'll start by saying that the entire project was a pleasure- from start to end. The receptionist, who I forget her name was kind and polite during both of my phone calls, she was willing to reschedule my meeting, and answered all my questions. Aviv showed up for the meeting on time, and after going through all the process details with me and clarify I understood everything (look, type of plants, direction of the sun, etc.) We than met again at the nursery, we selected flowers together, some herbs and much more. He was so kind with my boys, let them touch and smell some of the plants, explained which was what, how and when it grows and was just amazing with them. The next day, he returned with all of the supplies, upgrade our irrigation system, plant new fruit trees, flowers and succulents.Aviv, Migule and the entire Vitoli's crew were polite, knowledgeable and kept all COVID safety rules (social distance, mask on at every moment, hand sanitizer on site.). I am very pleased with their work and can't wait for our next project together (pool and bbq area, by the end of summer). read more

The best decision that we could have made was to hire Vitoli to build our pool and completely transform our backyard. From the first meeting with Rob and his team until the completion of the project, every interaction was clear, friendly and professional. Our backyard was nothing but dirt and weeds with an overgrowth of ivy. Vitoli worked with my budget to help me get everything I wanted in a reasonable timeline. Once we were able to clear the permits, they started the second week of April and we were in the pool swimming by Memorial Day. They communicated with me throughout the entire project and found solutions to every problem that came up. Now my backyard has a 36x20 pool with a Baja and a jacuzzi, a putting green, a platform with a pergola and a seating area in the patio. Had a fantastic experience working with Vitoli Builders! Professionalism at every step. They scheduled an in-person estimate and confirmed the meeting the day before. Rob showed up right on time, with a smile on his face, happy to come do a quote. He was very knowledgeable did a great job communicating the different steps. He was also super collaborative in trying different materials in our planning stages. You can tell he's passionate about landscaping! After this initial consult, I got other quotes that came in higher and with lesser customer service. I approved the Vitoli quote. His team dropped off different turf and paver options and took the time to review dimensions. His PM, Ricardo, was also very profesionnal and ready to help. One thing that stands out for every person I interacted with at Vitoli is that they were attentive to my needs, concerns and budget. For the actual project, the materials and team showed up on time and well prepared. They worked diligently and paid close attention to details. The pavers were cut properly, the cement and lines were well drawn and the turf sections were carefully merged with not apparent seems. The plants were also nice and healthy with a great smell. The only tiny thing they forgot was to install a metal drain on the cement section instead of a plastic one. Rob right away assured me this will be replaced and it just goes to show how dedicated they are to customer experience. All in all, I would strongly recommend. Going into months of the pandemic, my family knew that we would need to take our tiny hillside yard to something more functional. By the time we had gone through all of the exercises of meeting different contractors and build design firms, it was obvious to me that we needed to go with a build design firm with demonstrated success and experience. Through our research, we also came to the conclusion that to work with the successful companies, you need a big project. Especially when contractors are in such high demand like they are these days. And most importantly, the company needed to understand "design", not just say that they design for engineering purposes. Midway through the pandemic, we decided that the best company that we could find (realize that I am a Google search professional) was Vitoli. The fact that I chose Vitoli, meant that I did not have to worry about the extreme scenarios that I was aware of in the marketplace such as contractors ghosting jobs early on, taking off with deposits, etc.... My comfort and the assurance of working with the pros, made the experience more fun (of course with some challenges), and allowed us to build the backyard of our dreams. The end result is a true resort-like experience versus our previous small concrete slab.
