I've used the service in the past when ordering vital records for deceased family members as I'm applying for dual citizenship. Things started off great. I was able to get death records for most everyone and both records for everyone I needed. Then, all of a sudden, they decided they wanted to stop working with me and came to the conclusion I'm not who I say I am, even though I answered all the identity verification question correctly. My birth certificate? Fine. My parent's marriage certificate? Fine. Both my grandparent's birth certificates? Here ya go. My grandmother's death certificate? Not a problem! Your grandparent's marriage certificate? Uh-oh, can't do that! Your grandfather's death certificate? Too bad! I've been trying to get my grandparent's marriage certificate and grandfather's death certificate, but now I need a notarized affidavit of identification. I don't know why this is an issue all of a sudden, but again I answered their identity verifications correctly, thus nullifying the need for the affidavit and this has not been an issue in the past. I won't even attempt to get both of my great-grandmothers' death certificates. I'll just suck it up and mail in the paper application directly to the state. I'd rather pay $34 than get charged easily double that only to have nothing to show for it using Vitalchek. read more

Vital Check IL. This is the absolute worst company to do business with. Order placed in June 2025. It is now Nov. 2025. With no certificate. Clarissa is a nice person and contact at this company. I have sent two email and was on hold for over and hour trying to check on the status of my order. I got an email on April 7, 2026 that my order had shipped and when I check the UPS tracking number it says a label was created that day but they have not received the package. i ordered birth certificate and it was suppose to arrive December 23 2026. Today is February 3rd and still no birth certificate. :(

I signed up and immediately completed the required steps--gathered my documents, had them notarized, and faxed them to the number listed on your website. A week later I was told my account was on hold because the documents hadn't been received. I called and was given an email address, so I re-sent the same notarized documents along with fax verification proof. Another week passed with no update, and then I was informed that my order was being canceled because the documents were "never received." Despite following instructions exactly and providing proof of submission, I was told I would still be charged. I could have driven 4.5 hours to the records office myself and obtained my birth certificate faster and with far less hassle. Charging customers for your own processing failures feels unfair and leaves me with no confidence in your service. read more

Forced to use this service while overseas. Put in all the needed details and payment info, then got told I need to send a notarized proof of my identity. It said I had to use the form given, but the notary portion of the form had a notary location pre-entered in it, which was on the other side of the world from where I was, so I emailed them asking how to address this. They emailed back a completely illogical answer just saying we need verification and not at all addressing my question. So I write back again then finally get an actual answer. I lost a week trying to get an actual answer and then it was Xmas holidays so I was not able to tend to it. Less than two weeks later they cancelled my pending verification as I hadn't provided the form yet - AND they still charged me a "usage fee"!!! Now I have to work out how to get back into my original application that this is linked to and start this all again. They up charge you and then wait 150 Work Days to send you your birth certificate. So that means I order it in August and I'm not expected to get it until April!!! 8 months!! Call the county clerk's office of the municipality of where u were born and order it directly. They are usually lovely to deal with, send it out quickly and for a fraction of the cost. So far I ordered an Divorce statement, as well as long form birth certificate both were to be sent to Secretary of State and only one was. I was informed of this over site by the Secretary of State because they needed payment for the apostlle but I received the Divorce decree and it wasn't needed for that. After contacting Vital support they said it was up to me to coordinate with Secretary of State, when it was ordered to be sent to them for the apostlle like it's my problem because someone didn't do what they were supposed to.. Total scam. I tried to order my divorce certificate. After I paid it said 120 days. I didnt want to wait that long so I called to cancel. They said call back in 5 days which I did. Then they said call back in another 5 days and I said ok and then miraculously the next day, the UPS guy shows up at my door with a certified letter saying there was no record of a divorce certificate. Make sure to understand the shipping prices and delivery windows. Ordered a birth certificate using VitalChek's UPS 2 Day Air option. The certificate was with UPS on 10/1 and was delivered on 10/6. Not 2 Day Air. UPS redirects the recipients (us) to VitalChek because the 2 Day Air option was not purchased directly through UPS. VitalChek will deny all refunds. They are unable to produce any information on their website clearly identifying delivery and shipping delays (i.e. weekdays, weekends, pick up windows, etc). In reality, our package would have arrived via USPS within the same time frame, if not sooner, and for no additional delivery charges. read more

I attempted to order my birth certificate through Vitalchek to avoid having to go down to the county and miss work. However, I ran into issues instantly. Vitalchek will charge you a standard amount and then disclose that there are additional requirements before you can get your document. After I paid I found out that my signature needed to be signed with a notary, then I could submit it to Vitalchek and receive my birth certificate. My balance also went from $41 to $61 because of shipping. None of this was disclosed to me upon "checkout" when I provided my card information. I attempted to cancel my order with customer service and they offered absolutely no assistance. They kept referring me to the county. What is the point of having customer service if you offer no customer service. Do not waste your money. Take the time off of work and pay $34 for a birth certificate. Three times my paperwork for a birth certificate copy was rejected - each time for a new reason: notary's stamp not clear, name not legible, name does not match. Simply abysmal. Ordered death certificates because the Nevada website recommended them as "the place" to order death certificates. I completed all of the paperwork, attached all of the documentation. They immediately charged me their processing fee - that was the ONLY thing speedy about them. I waited weeks, then got a note back: "We need something else." I clicked into my order; there are no details about what exactly is needed. So, I emailed them to find out. In the meantime, I ordered the certificates directly from the State of Nevada Vital Records Office, just in case. A few days ago, I finally got a response back from Vitalchek: "We need a state certified marriage certificate." Thankfully, I've already received the death certificate directly from the State of Nevada, no fuss, no muss. At least they didn't charge me for the certificates they couldn't send me, but I'm out $14 for their processing fees. Seems like their MO - charge a fee, provide weeks and weeks of wait time with no response, and hope the prospective client goes away. Just go to the state's vital records office - they're much more efficient, cheaper, and more responsive. How's that for sad? read more

Ordered a birth certificate for my aunt on May 2nd, approved May 7th. I've asked for a refund after 40 days and was refused. My sister took my aunt to the courthouse received the same day for $5. We needed this so she could get her state ID with the real ID. She has since been on her trip and home. I inquired again since it's been 3 months and they responded today "...Today 8/4 is the 60th business day of processing for your order.". Well no matter how you count business days today is day 78. Horrible. Needed an official birth certificate back in April for Real ID. Ordered one through vitalchek. You are pretty much forced to pay for air delivery. It never came. Good thing I eventually found a birth certificate at home because the deadline was May 7 for Real ID and I needed to travel in June. Never heard anything from vital chek for several months. I requested my birth certificate through Vitalchek 25 days ago and my order keeps showing as "processing" with no further information even though they advertise 10 to 14 business day turnaround. I tried calling Customer Service and was on hold for one hour before I gave up. I just emailed their Customer Service for an update so we'll see if I get a response. I feel like they are just a scammy company and if I don't hear back from them I will dispute the charge with my credit card company and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I just filed a complaint with the FTC about them. I may file a complaint with my state Attorney General as well. Stay away from this company. read more
