My experience at DMVs have usually gone as expected which was bad to horrible. My first experience at Florida DMV in Miami Gardens was an absolute nightmare. Barely controlled chaos . So you can imagine my expectations going your way the DMV in Oakland Park I was impressed however. Of course there was a line but it moved quickly and the person at the reception area was pleasant, actually helpful. From there it was simple. From start to finish I was there around 1 hour total . I arrived for my driving test prepared, having completed professional lessons and practice. During the test, I followed the examiner's instructions as given. After the test, I was told that my stopping at a stop sign were incorrect. However, the instructions in the official exam materials indicate that my actions were correct according to the rules, which were not followed in the evaluation I received. The examiner administering the test was a trainee, and a supervising examiner was present in the vehicle. During the exam, the supervisor appeared disengaged and did not provide guidance or clarification to his subordinate. I have to be honest I feel like my testing was done more subjectively than objectively as it seemed like she was following her own feelings of driving than the rules of driving. Additionally, I was marked down for not turning off my left signal after a left turn, although the signal disengaged automatically after the turn was completed. During the test, when I asked a clarifying question during a maneuver, I was told, "I didn't say that," rather than being given a yes or no answer. After the test, I requested a copy of the scoring sheet or my score, but neither was provided. Driving tests should be conducted with clear communication, consistency with provided materials, and transparency. This experience did not meet that standard. read more

Very difficult to make online appointments. They are booked out 2 months in advance and slots are always full. After months of checking for availability, we were finally able to schedule one. They sent an email stating the appointment would need to be confirmed thru a text. Well, lo and behold, I never received one. So I try to call, but line says it's in use and disconnects. I had read the previous reviews and comments on Nextdoor and was looking as forward to this as getting a root canal without anesthesia. But to my complete surprise, the office was extremely efficient, everyone I encountered were wonderful, helpful and pleasant. I honestly thought I was in the wrong place. Surely this couldn't be the same place where I read horror stories of people having to camp out at midnight to just get a spot in line. No scary elevators - in fact, every stairwell also had an elevator- and there was also an escalator across from the office. The only complaint I had was the website and online registration process. They do need a new IT system- I couldn't see an opening in forever which prompted me to try and go to the palm beach office. They weren't allowed to take anyone who didn't live there since they're a county office and not a state facility. So I again went on the Broward registration site and I must have hit it at the exact right time because all of a sudden, numerous openings came available- which of course I assumed was a fluke after trying for months to get a spot- so I grabbed one and waited for the text that never came. I assumed I didn't get the spot, so I again logged in and entered all my information for the hundredth time- and when I picked a new time slot, the message came back saying I was already booked. So I showed up at the original time slot, not expecting much and of course they couldn't find it- but they manually put me in for another spot which was only 1.5 hours from the one I made. I went and had a nice breakfast in the citi center there- and came back and got in line for my 11 am appointment. On the dot, they opened the doors for everyone that had an appointment at 11- and the rest was smooth sailing. The people were very friendly and I was in and out in under 30-40 minutes. No need for overnight camping in the parking lot, or driving two hours to some remote location (which I fully intended on doing had it not worked out) read more

I went to this driver's license location trying to get information about how to help someone to get a photo ID, one of the two ladies with a black mask on her face told me that I was spitting on her face while I was addressing to her. I was about three to four feet away from her distance. She moved away from me and ignored me with a very bad attitude. I went to a second woman with tinted white hair, she handed me a list of what I needed to bring but also displayed very bad character. They are so rude at this place with no respect and prejudice. From security guards to the personal. OMG. It's unbelievable. They are not human. Some of them should be in a jungle. Not in a place where to deal with humans. Let me start by saying the staff people I dealt with there were all actually SUPER NICE and quite helpful. Where all stars were lost was in the process. The fact that you have to go an hour before the place opens, bring a lawn chair (best decision I ever made) and a drink for the heat is ridiculous. We got there only 30mins before opening and the line was the full length of the plaza... Start to finish it was 3 hours. I have heard and experienced nightmares anytime I have had to go to the DMV here in Florida. I am happy to say that this visit was nothing like that. Had to schedule my appointment online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and I arrived about 20 minutes earlier and they let me in regardless. Everything is extremely streamlined, and very efficient. I was able to renew my license within 20 minutes of my arrival, And I had it in my hand 10 minutes after that. Might be a little out of my way for me, but to get this service and speed? Staff was VERY busy and had to handle a lot of ignorant and rude people. When you go, be patient and polite and they will be far more inclined to help you. The lady managing the line tried to answer my questions but had to redirect her attention to people bypassing her to get ahead of the line. I then saw security step out and when he had a free moment I asked my questions. He spoke to his manager, and between his answers and the first woman I spoke to (who was finally able to breathe long enough to help me) my questions were addressed. They WILL help, just be polite, patient, and communicative. They were both very courteous when speaking with me, and I appreciate them taking the time to hear my concerns about my daughter's disability needs. read more

Can I say that I was in and out in 30 minutes and was seen at my appointment time during a pandemic? That's skills. So, if you're going now and for the foreseeable future, you need to make an appt online since they are not doing walkins or making appts at the DMV. When you make the appt online, bring your confirmation number to the appt. You can't enter if you have a fever OR if you're not wearing a mask. Bring all your documents, and you'll be fine. I booked an appt for 1:30PM on Friday, October 27th. I brought all the necessary documents (social security, passport, birth certificate, lease, and car insurance) - or so I thought - with me. I was called to finally go to station #2 at 2:40PM. The lady informed me that I didn't have the necessary paperwork, and I would have to go to the library nearby to print additional documents. So, I drive to the library and have to sign up for a Broward County library card in order to get access to printing services. I printed the additional documents (which is 15 cents per page), and then I returned to the DMV at 3:50PM. I was allowed back in but only after butting heads with the lady worker at the front. I waited an additional 10 minutes to get served by the same lady at station #2. After all this, I finally got approved for my driver's license and paid the $48. The lady at station #2 said "see, that wasn't so bad." WHAT?! This was an absolute terrible experience with the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Every worker I encountered is so rude here. I waited for them to print my driver's license and finally left the DMV at 4:31PM. Make sure you have 3 hours to sacrifice even with an appointment. The following three pictures, tell the story of my friend's horrible encounter at the Lauderdale DMV office. Because she asked the lady at the front door to repeat the directions she had been given, the lady became abusive, confrontational, and racist. She called my friend, a prostitute only here to get an American husband and told her that she was one of the reasons that this country was going down the tubes. She tried to send her away a number of times so that she couldn't accomplish what she wanted to do there. The DMV worker also went inside the office and closed the door, leaving all of the people in line waiting for 40 minutes. Some of the people in that line tried to help my friend and suggested that she called the police. And acquaintance told me today that that office is notorious for its nastiness and rudeness. They hire that type of person on purpose and do not care about the reviews. Somethings should be done about this. This office is there to help people acquire documents that they need in their daily lives. They are not doing their jobs. read more

I don't really understand the other reviews. This place is a half step above a complete disaster. First, no one checked any documents before entering. Second, the line for the appointments (and be sure to make one) is not well marked, leading to additional wasted time. Third, even WITH an appointment, we waited for at least 90 minutes before we were seen by a clerk. Fourth, despite having lots of "stations," most were empty, meaning no employees were actually at the stations to assist. While I certainly don't expect a Govermental Agency to be efficient or fast, this was beyond slow and disorganized. They were nice, and I was impressed with how well they handled the mass of people, but don't come here expecting an easy time. read more

Surprisingly pleasant experience here. I had to renew my license and was unable to do so online for some reason. I dread the DMV. But had to get it done. Was working in the area and found this location through Yelp. It is very organized. Yes, there was a super long line, but it went quickly. The numbers system was also efficient. They had a staff member helping everyone get prepared in the line before waiting for their number to be called just to make sure they had everything they needed. Which helped the line go quicker. Very friendly staff as well. I am always amazed at how patient employees of these types of organizations are. Plenty of parking in the lot outside. it is tucked away in a Plaza in Oakland Park. I will probably make a special trip just to come to this particular DMV in the future if I have to. read more

Worst customer service. Not consistent in enforcing regulations. I accompanied my step daughter who does not speak English. Ms Dean refused to let me in with her. Before me she let 3 people in with one appointment. When questioned she said their situation is different. I heard the conversation. It was a mother and sister of an 18 year old daughter. The difference? They all spoke English. Last week I accompanied my son in law for the same reason. No issue entering with him, but after 2 hours in line, with an appointment, they would not accept his FPL app proof of address and we were sent away.
