I am FUMING RIGHT NOW! So I was kicked out of this blood center because I showed up too early for my appointment and waited for my donation time. To reiterate on a previous review. There are good people and great phlebotomists at this location. The manager Jennifer Ortega ( maiden name) kicked me out and I can't even donate at a blood drive. I'm pretty sure it's because her sister or sister in law was my teacher and to say I was a difficult student is an understatement. So we're negating Saving a life ( because of a bias from a prior interaction with her sister or sister in law. I have a unique blood type and my blood is useful for infants. So we are no longer saving children's live's because of a unfair and unwarranted bias? The amount of petty nonsense is unbelievable at this center. Absolutely the best place to make a difference is someone's life by donating blood. The facility is clean and the staff is very friendly. They do an amazing job explaining the process and making sure you are comfortable. My wife donated blood for the first time and her experience was a very positive one. I plan on coming back to donate plasma in a couple weeks. read more

I arrived 5 minutes before my appointment, and I wasn't called back until 15 minutes later. Once I was brought to a room, the lady seemed distracted and kept looking out of her office and seemed like she was waiting for someone or something. She said she would be right back so I had to wait another few minutes, until she told me she needed to do something and I had to wait again at least another 5-10 mins. She was nice about it but just wish she had some sense of urgency to her movement. Luckily the nurse who actually did my blood draw was super nice! Alexis was awesome and explained everything she was doing (unlike the first person who helped me, probably just assumed I knew what was happening even though I told her I hadn't donated in years). She was really fast and efficient so I was done about 20 minutes after I sat in the chair. You have to wait 15 minutes before leaving, but since I was the last appt they were already closed and cleaning and restocking things so I felt a bit pressured to leave. I'm not sure what the point of having an appointment is if I still have to wait even longer to begin. I spent my entire lunch break and beyond that for this appointment, but they didn't have afternoon ones available on a Monday so this was my only choice. I decided to donate by my own choice after seeing email promotions and the dire need for my specific blood type, but this type of experience today from the initial check in makes me weary about coming back, or just making sure to plan ahead and expect to be there longer than I actually thought. read more

Instead of doing Black Friday shopping, I wanted to donate blood today! I have been donating blood for many years now. I scheduled an appointment online and it was an easy process. This is my 2nd time at this location. The facility is cleaned and organized. Once I walked in, Michael greeted me and he actually remembered me from 2 weeks ago! He was nice and friendly. He checked me in, checked my temperature and gave me sanitizer. I sat in the waiting area for a few minutes. Sarah came out to grab me to bring me into the screening room. In the room, Sarah asked for my ID, prick my finger to check my hemoglobin level, checked my temperature, checked blood pressure, checked heartbeat and looked at both of my arms. After she's done, she had me fill out some questionnaire on the computer. You can actually do this before your appointment to speed up the process. Once the screening is completed, she brought me to the donating area. All the chairs were spread out for social distancing. I used my left arm to donate. Sarah was really gentle. She poked the needle in and it wasn't painful at all. Donating process took about 10 minutes. Afterwards, it is recommended to stay at the facility for another 15 minutes in the refreshment area. The menu in the refreshment area has pretty good selections. Different types of snacks and drinks. Water, juice, Gatorade, Oreos, nutter butter, Cheetos, cookies and so forth. The lady at the refreshment area is super nice and sweet. She volunteers there every Friday. She is her 70s but still very active! Good for her! Everyone at this facility is super nice, friendly, patient and sweet. Victoria was my RN the first time when I was there and she was lovely. Sarah was amazing this time. Hope when I come back again next time, I will have more awesome experiences. read more

This place is practicing social distancing at its finest! I went here to donate blood. They are currently appointment only and are booked out about two weeks to keep everything clean and covid free. You must wear a mask and you will have your temp taken to make sure you're ok. I had to do an online questionnaire which I recommend doing before being seen. You will then be given a QR code to give the person assisting you. They then prick your finger to check your red blood cell count. Unfortunately mine was too low to donate for the appointment I scheduled. Everyone has a face mask, everyone's wearing gloves and everyone is keeping the place nice and clean as well as keeping everyone distant from everyone else. Please donate if you do. They really could use all the help they can at the moment. read more

This review is about Vitalant as a company, not just necessarily the Elk Grove location. Vitalant appears to be a company mostly demonstrating a significant lack of organization and communication with the donors which comes across as a lack of respect for those who voluntarily come out to donate their blood. They do an excellent job of making you feel as if they are doing you a favor by taking your blood. If you are one of those giving them 5-stars, I am glad you had a good experience with them, but just know you are a rarity. This is a horribly managed company with workers who don't pick up the phone on their Donor counseling service, ask you to leave a message and never return the calls, and send you through a rabbit hole when emailing them. It is unfortunate the Blood Source was bought out by Vitalant. We genuinely miss the professionalism and high level of communication that was offered through Blood Source. read more

I love coming to this location when I donate blood! Their facility is in the heart of Laguna, meaning once you're done and want to grab a bite you have nearby restaurants to choose from or if you need to run some errands, Target is right down the road. I also don't live too far from Laguna, so when I come to donate it is very convenient for me. I only donate whole blood, so the process for checking-in is what is going to take up most of your time, about 20-30 minutes. Amanda is usually the nurse who assists me, which I enjoy because she is always in a great mood, funny, and sweet! Their check-in process is when you'll have your iron levels checked, finger pricked, and the questionnaire answered, then reviewed. Afterwards, you're on to donating! My time typically takes about 8-10 minutes. Once you're all bandaged and wrapped up they definitely want you to stay your 15 minutes to enjoy the refreshments and snacks. This is your time to take advantage of free food and drinks! Lol. You will be treated extremely well! They have a wide variety of snacks to select from along with cheeses and a few juices that they pour out for you, courtesy of their volunteer(s). You are happily greeted when you arrive and followed with a thankful goodbye after your donation. They truly appreciate their donors. For the times I couldn't donate because of my iron levels being low, I still receive the same level of appreciation! I've donated at BloodSource 75 times and try to do so whenever time permits. Parking is easy to find and they have donor input parking near the entrance. Appointments are easily made online, over the phone, or before or after your visit. The facility is clean and well maintained. The staff are friendly, helpful, and polite. You can watch TV while you donate or catch up on the news as I do. Be sure to give yourself adequate time to donate as you must rest in the refreshment area for a minimum of 15 minutes after your donation. They have a variety of beverages, including juice, soda, and water as well as a variety of cheeses and snacks. I highly encourage you to help give the gift of life if you're able to. I am really afraid of needles and my veins are really tricky but I want to help those in need of blood. I was prepared for a bit of pain and multiple sticks; however, I was pleasantly surprised. The whole donation process was quite pleasant. The staff was awesome and the intake person even made me relax by making me laugh... It's like she could tell I was nervous and came to my rescue. The phlebotomist that stuck me got it on the first try. She did tricks like warming my arm, and using a pressure cuff to help with the stick. No matter how much I warned her about my tricky veins she reassured me and she was right. The young lady at the front desk, Vanessa, was friendly and also very reassuring. I signed up to donate again and I hope that I have the same experience. read more

Had a 12:00 appointment to donate whole blood(for the first time). Showed up right at noon and signed in, was helped thoroughly by the front desk. Amanda O and Victoria helped me through the questionnaire process and actually giving blood. These women are amazing and I'll be back every two months to donate. I can't stress enough how helpful and kind they were. read more

What happened? My husband and I went to the big donation drive at the Wackford Community Center today. They scheduled us with appointments at 2:15. They were non-appointments. It was just a time to start the wait. They bragged about how they are cleaning the high-touch services between patients. But they failed to mention you would be shuffled from chair to chair. Literally you moved with the line by going to the next chair about eighty chairs in all. Not one chair was cleaned the entire THREE HOURS we were there. You started in room one, went to the hallway, then the vitals station, then to the next waiting area. I felt like I was at the DMV. When we were in the final waiting area we could see all the donation stations in the middle of the room. Multiple stations would sit empty while the lines of people backed up. I don't know who organized this process but they did not have the doner's convenience in mind. It was like the Jerry Seinfeld episode, "You know how to take a reservation, you just don't know how to keep the reservation". They need to be told what an appointment means. I felt as if they were deliberately being deceptive by moving you from room to room to wait. If I had been told it was going to take THREE HOURS I would not have signed up. I didn't donate for awhile due to Covid and I started back not long . The office is very clean, friendly staff and they take social distancing seriously. I donated platelets once but it's a lengthy process and arthritis got the best of me. I donate whole blood and I like knowing it's helping others. My parents both received blood transfusions before they passed away. After donating there are refreshments including water or juices, chips, cookies, etc. read more

I absolutely love donation blood at the Blood Source Medical Centers. In particular, I have been visiting and donating in Elk Grove since November 2015. The customer service is awesome, the people - no matter their position - are eager to help, thorough, friendly and grateful, to name a few. Volunteers offer the same great customer service. I had an incredible visit with a volunteer on 09-19-16 at about 730am, after donating blood. The woman, originally from England, was a positive representative of Blood Source of Elk Grove. There were also some new people, in training on the 19th, again all were very friendly and seemed to know their job well or were learning it. Giving whole blood is another way of giving and saving lives. You can donate for a particular group, organization, City, etc. I donated on behalf of the Galt Police Department/City of Galt. If you're reading this then you are more than likely one of those people who are open to donating blood. In the area there are not a whole lot of places for that to happen that are not associated with BloodSource. I've been to a few locations as well as a mobile drive now and then. This particular location is pretty nice. I myself donate more than just blood so I have to schedule my appointments and plan to give 2-3 hours of my day away here. That being said I cannot speak of what it is like here for a walk in. I am always in and getting hooked up to the machine needed for my donation on time. The staff is super friendly and quickly addresses any issues or concerns I may have. Not once have I had them miss when sticking me or blow out a vein. read more

From the beginning, after I was brought in for my interview with the RN, I didn't feel welcomed! Their was some under laying hostility with the RN that was helping me?... I had an 7:30am appointment today for donating platelets when I got in, one of the RN or whoever she was asked to talk to me, after she got my information down, she told me I was not eligible because I donated about a month ago, I was confused and said okay, so I left. Right before I got home the front desk lady called me and said there was a confusion, the lady that asked for my information thought I was giving whole blood. So unprofessional. So next time remind them what you are there for, now I have to make another trip there. read more

Love the people who work here and they always make sure everything is completely right, you feel cold they get you a blanket,thirsty they ask what you would like, feeling dizzy they do the works to make you feel better and keep you comfortable!!! The staff here are very friendly and knowledgeable and they are always so appreciative of donors coming into to donate blood. I learned today that woman cannot donate plasma, something to do with child bearing and anti-bodies. I wanted to be a platelet donor but my veins are too small for platelet donation per the staff at bloodsource. Bummer. But hey at least, I can continue to donate whole blood. read more

I have nothing against the people who work here but where I have an issue is with their website. You create an account when you sign up for an appointment and then they send you to your email a questionnaire prior to your appointment, but then weeks later after not hearing anything from them and trying to get your results, you can't even see your results because you have no donor ID number( this is for first time donors by the way). And even if you can get logged on, if you are not connected to a donor then you are dead in the water. Again, you need your donor ID which is still a mystery to for my poor husband because we still don't have that info. nearly three weeks after donating. We emailed today and someone called my husband and gave him his so called ID number. We tried to log in again and now it says it doesn't recognize his email. WTF?? You've confirmed his donation appointment through his email and sent the questionnaire but now that we have the donor ID it doesn't recognize my husband's email. So frustrating. Their system needs to be better than this. read more
