Austin Pro Siding, Windows & Roofing

Austin Pro Siding, Windows & Roofing

We contacted Austin Pro Siding as part of a comprehensive siding replacement project, as our…read morefiberboard siding was end-of-life and starting to really have problems that would have only gotten worse. Along the way, we also discovered that we needed to have the roof replaced, and so put that in the mix for a bid as well. We contacted six different companies, each of which brought a particular set of strengths and challenges. We chose Austin Pro based on a combination of factors: personalized attention to our project, comprehensive estimate and explanation of each line item, and ability to get the project done on a timeline that worked for us. We chose to have the house re-sided with Hardie Plank, painted with Sherwin-Williams paint, and re-shingled the roof with GAF shingles. It's easy to get overwhelmed by the process of basically re-doing the entire house, especially when insurance companies come into play. To that end, everyone at Austin Pro was first rate. Before we even settled on a contractor, Paul, our project manager, walked me through the intricacies of the process, and spent probably more time than he wanted explaining how things would go, and what options we had. The bid was competitive, and the line-by-line items on the original bid made it easy to see what was going to be done, and what materials were going to be used. He was patient and courteous and flexible, and was also able to speak to us in a way that didn't make things even more confusing. Kevin was the siding project lead, and though we never met in person, I felt comfortable that he had our best interests at heart as he got the crew on site, working fast and efficiently to remove and replace the siding. He even called in the middle of the siding job to tell us that we didn't need something we thought we would, saving us money that we could then use for add-ons we didn't originally budget for. The siding install and siding paint was done beyond our initial expectations, with nice touches like window framing and utility box framing that I didn't even know we needed but now look perfect. We had the back door repainted as well as our front balcony and pillars, and the end result is fantastic. It really was done to the point where it looks like a brand new house, and not one built in the early 1990s. Paul was back on site for the roofing job, and the roofers did a great job removing and replacing the shingles and skylight with new materials, on a roof that is exceptionally steep and challenging. They had the entire project done in only two days, and it looks fantastic. Finally, Garrett came by to do the final walk-through and punch list check-off, and was a real pleasure to interact with. He fulfilled all the items on the list, at least the ones he could do on his own, and did so in a friendly, courteous, and extremely efficient manner. All in all, Austin Pro lived up to their name and to their reputation. It is possible to find a company that can do your big jobs for less, but I am not sure you could find one that could do it better. They stand by their work with a quality assurance guarantee, and while I don't intend to need it, it's great that it's there.

Energywise Windows - Missing trim

They also arranged for me to get a rebate from both the power company and the gas company because of the energy cost they save with their specially insulated double-pane windows and I couldn't be more pleased with how they look and keep the sounds outside to a bare minimum.

During the installation, the workers found that the measurement for one window was incorrect, and one piece of glass of a new window was broken during installation. The old windows were already removed and damaged. Because of this, we had to live with plywood board patches for the whole holiday season until the replacement came in on Jan 10, 2023. We were told the windows have life time warranty. We thought we would not need to worry about the foggy issue anymore. However, on Oct 30, 2023, after a big rain and a sudden temperature drop, we found three pieces of glass with moisture trapped and fog. Greg Ginther was contacted, and he came and confirmed that three windows need a glass replacement. He said that the new windows would be delivered within 6 months and he would contact us when ready. This never happened. Recently, we found a big piece of exterior window trim missing and water damage. We contacted Greg - no reply. Called his number - directly went to voice message. Our messages were read and later blocked. We are easygoing customers and seldom complain. But in this case, it is outrageous that we spent around 20k and ended up in such a big mess.

We didn't move forward with any window company (not the right time for us to make that interment) but if/when we do we will be choosing window world.

I have used Window World of Austin twice, and while I appreciate their reasonable pricing and…read moreno-pressure sales approach, both experiences have left me disappointed with their follow-through and customer service. My first experience was about a year ago when I had a two-door French door converted into a three-panel sliding glass door at a home in South Austin. The initial process was easy, everything was explained well, and the quote was reasonable. A day or two after the installation, I noticed cracks in the concrete and contacted the salesperson who handled that project. His initial response was to suggest that I must have opened the door or done something to cause the damage. He later apologized for that response and assured me the cracks would be repaired. A few weeks later, after hearing nothing, I followed up again and was once again told the issue would be taken care of. A year later, the cracks are still there, and no one has returned to address them. Despite that experience, I decided to give Window World another chance for a window installation at a home in Georgetown. This project was handled by a different salesperson. Again, the sales process was pleasant, with no pressure, and the quote was reasonable. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. I chose the cash payment option and gave the salesperson a check for over $6,200. A few days later, I found that same check at the property, where I was not living at the time. I initially assumed it had been deposited electronically. However, a day or two later, I received a message saying he had "accidentally shredded my check" and needed another one. What bothered me wasn't that he misplaced the check. Mistakes happen. It was that he apparently knew the check was missing and gave me an explanation that wasn't true rather than simply admitting he had misplaced it. I would have appreciated honesty, especially with a check for that amount. The installation itself was scheduled to take two days, but the crew finished in one. Unfortunately, the quality of the work reflected how rushed it seemed. Some windows were not completely caulked, six screens had issues ranging from holes and caulk on the screens to improper installation, and the caulking around some of the windows was extremely messy. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect professional workmanship. I assumed someone would follow up or conduct a walkthrough to make sure everything was completed properly. Instead, the only call I received was from their office a few days later requesting the remaining balance. I explained the problems and made it clear that, based on my previous experience of promised repairs never being completed, I wasn't comfortable making the final payment until the issues were addressed. I was transferred to their service department and had to leave a voicemail, but no one contacted me to explain what would happen next or schedule a visit. Several days later, I simply received a text saying someone was on the way. The service technician did correct the screen issues and added the missing interior caulking. However, I still had to go around the exterior myself, fixing caulking and hammering in nails that had been left sticking out. I kept expecting someone from the company to follow up. Even a simple text or email from the salesperson to make sure everything had been resolved would have been appreciated. Nothing. To be fair, the windows themselves work fine, and I do think Window World offers a reasonable product for the price. Their sales process is also refreshingly free of pressure. Unfortunately, the workmanship, communication, and follow-up have been disappointing on two separate jobs. My biggest frustration is that the company seems much more attentive during the sales process and when collecting payment than it does when ensuring the work has actually been completed correctly. Even at a competitive price, customers should be able to expect proper installation, honest communication, and a basic follow-up to make sure the job was done right. A simple walkthrough after installation and a follow-up call to confirm everything was completed properly would go a long way. Overall, I think Window World offers a good value for the money, which is why I chose to use them a second time and would still consider them for future projects. However, reasonable pricing shouldn't mean customers have to accept sloppy workmanship or a lack of follow-through. I would really like to see the company improve its quality control and customer service, particularly when it comes to making sure installations are completed properly and that any issues are resolved. A little more attention to detail and communication after the sale would make a significant difference.
