A Michelin Star Restaurant located at the hotel Bela Vista overlooking the Praia da Rocha in Portimão.
As we were staying at the hotel for a couple of nights we decided to give it a try. It is also open to non-guests.
If you haven't been to a place like this before, expect the most formal of service. In fact it's not even dining, its a "food experience" in which you will spend a couple of hours exploring tastes and textures created by the chef.
The Saturday we dined, the menu consisted of three different tasting menus the main one with like 10 small bite courses, the chefs tasting menu and lastly a vegetarian option. They do ask you in advance about food allergies and preferences (for us, no clams, mussels or octopus) and will happily adjust things accordingly. We got the chefs menu (€110 per person) along with the recommended wine pair (€55 per person) so a dining "experience" here was not cheap by any definition.
We were there a bit over 2 hours and while everything is artfully prepared and the choreography of service is impressive, this type of dining isn't really something I enjoy all that much as a general rule. If you are a gourmet diner and don't mind spending $200 per person on dinner, it's quite the experience. read more
