This little restaurant is a gem. Our waitress spoke perfect English and was very patient. She did a…read moregreat job explaining the dishes and making recommendations. The decor is rustic, like grandmother's kitchen.
Let me say, the food was all very fresh. We started with garlic bread and sautéed mushroom appetizers. They were both quickly devoured. There is an emphasis on fresh herbs in every dish. It children opted for chicken nuggets and fries (they could have had steak.... kids), which were probably the only things that were not freshly made.
I have never ordered stew in a restaurant (that I can recall), but I was not disappointed. My wife ordered grilled tuna, served with an herb butter. The stew was delicious, simmered in brandy and herbs, with carrots, celery, and maybe leeks. The beef was tender. The tuna steak was delicious as well.
We had house wine, so nothing spectacular. Our meal came in at 60€, out the door. For our American friends, that includes tip/service, two sodas, one bottle of water, three glasses of wine, for two adults and two children.
Service is relaxed, meaning slow by American standards. You have to adjust your expectations of you are looking to just dine and dash. Our food orders came out in a reasonable amount of time and we did not feel rushed. Like most places in Portugal, we had multiple people waiting on us, in other words not one dedicated server. They were very friendly, attentive, and wanted to make sure we enjoyed everything.
Just a couple tips. If you want outdoor seating, you must call for reservations. We did not and ate inside, which was fine.
This was the best meal we have had in Portugal. This is comfort food at its best. We were made to feel very welcome. The prices were very reasonable. I hope to eat there again before we leave.
Eat here, you won't be disappointed. Highly, highly recommended.
