Garbage customer service, garbage products, garbage frames, trash talk by the employees. Short story: Nov '24 got a pair of Rx glasses through my insurance. One of the temples was kind of loose compared to the other side. Went back there a couple times in december and they told me it was acceptable and it was my obsession instead. January '25 I go back again and they tell me they can remake the glasses again because I just did not like them according to the employee. I had to leave the glasses there for 2 weeks to be redone and all the period that it took me to adapt to progressive lenses now has to be restarted from scratch and readapt to my old normal glasses again. Considering that I work in surgery, I could not do that and went with their word of just being acceptable movement of the temple. January '26 the temple completely detached when I was putting them on. Went to the store and I GOT KICKED OUT and asked to leave when I complained about this being a manufacturing defect and not misuse or normal wear and tear. I have had my other glasses from abroad for 4 years and still have them with no problens at all. Buyers BEWARE! My first experience here was good, I got an eye exam and a new pair of glasses but this review is for my most recent experience. M glasses broke at work and I had to go the rest of the workday with blurry vision. Worried I would have to go days or weeks without my glasses, I called in as soon as it happened to see if they could possibly be fixed but the answer I got wasn't too promising. I came in as soon as I got off work where Hannah B. the general manager greeted me and took a look at my glasses. Unfortunately it was not something she could fix but she quickly reassured me of other options. After a brief phone call with my insurance, I was told I was covered for a replacement pair. Hannah offered to order a new pair or I could take the display, I chose the display and the process after that was like 2 minutes before I was good to go! Store didn't open until 10:30 (was supposed to be open at 10) when we had 10:20 & 10:40 apts. Store manager "Mario" was rude and dismissive and didn't even have an optometrist on site. When I asked for his info as well as corporates, he said " no, go get it online" I have reached out to cooperate several times and have yet to have anyone or even the district manager follow up. According to others who were waiting for them to open as well, they mentioned they have gone several times and the store wasn't open until well after 10am. Company takes no responsibility and the manager is RUDE! I would NEVER shop there!!! Terrible company, just look at the reviews online!!!! Good spot for glasses, came here with my wife to pick up her glasses and I gotta say, it was a very smooth process. I don't wear glasses but it was so simple. Staff was cool and laid back, they ask if you need help and then let you kinda just browse around which is nice. They seem to always have sales I'd you're going to buy more than one pair or you're going to buy sunglasses with you normal glasses. FYI Still required to wear a mask inside but they can provide you with one if you don't have one. read more

ZERO STARS!!! Be VERY CAREFUL when purchasing anything in this store location! I was a victim of credit card fraud due to one or more of the employees at the Lombard, Illinois location inside Yorktown Mall. The employee who took my payment used a small white portable credit card reader. I handed my card to the employee and he inserted it into the small white portable card reader then proceeded to walk away and get my "receipt". Two weeks later, there was a fraudulent charge of over $1,000 on my card for a concert in Chicago. I spoke to Alondra, the retail manager who said she would relay my message about my experience to Luis Colon, the general manager. I asked her how credit card payments are taken and she assured me that Visionworks does NOT ever use any small white portable credit card readers. She also assured me that the general manager, Luis Colon, would contact me since that is who I initially requested to speak with. As of today, he has not yet returned my call and I don't believe he will because it doesn't seem like he cares about my very negative experience. This is very unprofessional behavior from management. I also emailed "customer support" and have yet to hear back from them. According to their Integrity Code of Business Conduct, "Questionable or unlawful acts quickly erode public confidence, causing our customers to lose trust in us." I have lost complete confidence and trust in Visionworks and will never patronize their business again. I will also make sure that friends, family, acquaintances, etc. know about my experience. I have proceeded to file a police report since the general manager, Luis Colon, has failed to return my call in over two weeks. Please be very vigilant at this location because I believe there may be other victims that have not yet pinpointed the credit card fraud to Visionworks. Check your statements closely and more importantly, do not hand your credit card to an associate to be inserted into a portable credit card reader. That was my mistake. read more

I came into Visionworks in the evening and was helped by Brenton. He did a great job helping me pick out frames which not only fit better but had the right options on them. These are the best pair of glasses that I have ever owned! It took a week for them to arrive in the store but the whole process was stress free. Strong recommendation if you have Davis Vision Insurance too, the entire cost of the pair was 100% covered. If I had needed an exam, they would have done that too. I bought new frames and lens less than two months ago. One of the arms came off the frames. I went to the store and was told they don't fix that unless I buy a $60 warranty and pay $20 for the repair. First, what's the point of a warranty if I have to pay an additional $20? Second, LESS THAN TWO MONTHS. I had the same pair of glasses before this for OVER FIVE YEARS. They NEVER BROKE. I bought a brand new pair of glasses Feb 27 received them two weeks later and on May 10 they broke and Visionworks will not repair them unless I pay $80!! Total scam. They tried to blame me, said I hold them funny, so then how did I have another pair for over five years that NEVER broke? Visionworks can and should do better. Visionworks sold me faulty frames and Visionworks should repair or replace them at their expense. read more

I was able to be seen the same day,Walked in did my paperwork,and was quickly doing my first eye test.The assistant performed a test where they blow air in your eye,she was having trouble.Luckily,she asked her co-worker for help instead of letting me suffer with my eye wide open.I appreciate that. They did nothing to assist me with choosing my frames and I have purchased my frames there for years, when I asked an associate if he could fix a frame and I showed it to him he immediately without checking stated it wasn't there frame. Nicole up front was awesome, very very friendly and helpful! She helped me with an insurance issue and got me my glasses with no problem. The tech Lashonda (not sure how to spell) was also very friendly and kind. The doctor was great too, very knowledgeable and told me I had an astigmatism which no eye doctor had talked to me about even though I have had glasses since age 5. I was able to use my insurance to get glasses for a fair price. No one pushed me into buying more expensive upgrades. Dr Ross was fantastic. The most comprehensive exams I've eve had. Dr Ross explained my results as it related to my being a diabetic. Although helpful and friendly, they are a little short staffed up front. Only one person to help with getting frames, measurements etc... It took a good hour to accomplish as their were others in front of me and again only one person working in this area. If not for that and the fact it is going to take 10 days to get glasses back (a little long) I would have rated a 5 star. read more

I had a more than great experience! Came in today, on a same day online appointment. And they were able to take me early. I felt really comfortable the whole time. The gentlemen who gave me my paperwork/ beginning tests was incredible. The doctor was amazing, I was so nervous at first, having different eye doctors before. She was great. Educated me on a lot and was very sweet the whole exam. I left with a pair of glasses ordered that I loved. Also, was super easy to check out. They took my insurance, I saved a lot of money. DONT GO HERRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEE!! What a LONG story I have to tell, but the main point of it all will be: just don't go there! Other bulleted points: waited for over a month for a TRIAL pair of contacts hindering me from getting my prescription, next day delivery when I ordered contacts did NOT COME IN THE NEXT DAY even though I paid, and you always have to wait. My insurance changed and my dr's office didn't take it so I figured I would go here, get the prescription and take it back to my dr to avoid a huge bill. The exam went fine UNTIL.... the dr said he didn't have any trial contacts in my prescription, so they would have to order them. When the order came in, I would try them out, go back, if everything was OK- I'd get my contact prescription. Week 1 went by. Week 2 went by. Week 3 went by. So many phone calls back and forth. First couple times they were never ordered. Then I was told they were on back order. Finally a month later they came in so I went right way to get them and.... NOT THE RIGHT CONTACTS! Apparently the dr wanted me to try something new which I told him I would NOT because I have an issue with my cornea and didn't want to change from something that works for the past 2 years. When I told them which contacts I wanted they went into the back room and grabbed them. "SO THE ONES I REALLY NEED HAVE BEEN HERE THE PAST MONTH!?" I took my prescription and left. (Side note, the guy who had me put my contacts in never suggested I wash my hands and I had to ask if it was OK that I use the sink to do so.....) A last minute trip came up and I had no contacts. It was quickest to order them through visionworks so I called on SATURDAY to order NEXT DAY delivery. They said unfortunately, orders can only go in Mon-Fri. No Biggie, I wasn't leaving until Wednesday morning. Tuesday rolls around and guess what? No phone call. I called and was told they just got a shipment in, once they sorted through it they'd call me. Call back: MY CONTACTS DIDN'T COME IN! Surprised? Me neither. So of course I explain that I paid for next day shipment fees, I was going out of town and I NEEDED those contacts. They offered me a couple days of trial pairs but it wouldn't last me my trip. At this point I was pissed and I said they would need to refund my shipping fee, and give me more contacts right away. They ended up giving me free trials of a different brand to get me by. I return from vacation... DUN DUN DUNNNNNN.... I go to pick up the contacts that should have come in over a week ago and... they're there, calm down. I tell them why I'm there, I point to the contacts literally sitting there with my name and they make me wait. And wait. And wait. 20 minutes! Finally a young kid comes in and they told him to help me. #1- he smelled terribly of smoke, and not cigarette smoke. #2- they told me I had to wait because they needed to mark which eye was left and right. I KNOW THAT! IT'S BEEN THE SAME FOR TWO YEARS! I'M NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN! I WILL PAY HOWEVER MUCH TO GET AN EYE EXAM INSTEAD OF USING MY VISION INSURANCE HERE. read more

I didn't think it was possible for this many things to go wrong with one transaction. Background story is that I had a pair of rose-colored sunglasses that weren't long for this world, and I came to Visionworks to basically get something to replace them. First, the salesperson would NOT stop bugging me about setting an appointment for an eye exam. Then, I sat for almost 45 minutes just waiting for someone to take my order. While I was waiting for their slow dial-up system to process my order, the supervisor helping me went to clean up my existing sunglasses (I don't know why... he insisted). While he was tightening the screws, he broke off one of the arms. The supervisor was kind enough to give me a replacement pair from their prefab selection, though. Their lens machine was broken, so I had to wait a couple of days for my order. When I came to pick it up, they screwed up the lenses... they put in regular lenses instead of sunglass lenses. So they took 'em back to try a second time. I came back again today, and they managed to get the lenses right this time, but BOTH pairs of frames had some sort of damage. On the 1st pair, one of the arms was twisted about 45 degrees at the hinge (we couldn't get it to go back). The 2nd pair had a mismatched silver screw by the right lens (the frame is antique bronze) that was poking up and was sharp. The employee helping me took it back to have it fixed. All they did was clip it a little bit closer to the frame, scratching the finish off the frame in the process. When I asked why there was a mismatched screw in first place, the employee told me "it must have fallen out. The probably just put in whatever was at hand". WHAT?!? Were they just hoping I wouldn't notice? Anyways, the employee ordered new frames to replace the damaged ones, and now it's going to be another 1-2 weeks before I get my sunglasses. I paid $185 for these sunglasses. So far, they've broken my existing sunglasses, screwed up the order, and given me not one, but TWO damaged frames, at least one of which they KNEW was damaged but tried to put a band-aid on it and hope I didn't notice. I'm just hoping that Attempt Number Three will produce solid, nice-looking sunglasses that will last a long time, but at this point I'm not holding my breath. read more

UPSELLING GALORE So, to open with the positive. I really liked the eye doctor who did my exam. She was personable, thorough, and really understood where I was coming from as someone who works at a computer all day and wears eyeglasses. Now, the negative. I have a very good vision plan through work, and it covers a new pair of glasses every year, frame and lens. It pretty much covers any frames on the main wall and the lenses. It is getting near the end of the year, and things are getting slightly fuzzy on my 2 year old glasses, so I figured I'd get your basic pair. However, when I went in there the first time, I mentioned that I was interested in transition lenses that go darker in sunlight... and it just took off from there. The saleswoman plugged it into the computer, did all the numbers... and for my 'completely covered' pair of glasses the bill was going to be $225.00 The confusing thing, I was fairly certain I was covered for one pair of glasses, but when I asked the saleswoman specifically about this, she answered that 'my plan still gave me significant discounts'. Okay... I thought, so I put her off and told her I'd be back. I went back to work and found two things. 1 - I was covered for a complete pair of glasses, but if I wanted transitions and other things, it would be extra. She never pointed this out. 2 - The most I would need to spend if I bought my glasses online (with transitions, anti-scratch, polarized, the works, would be $120.00. So, pretty much half of what I was getting WITH insurance at Visionworks. So, I went back to the store a couple of days later and said, specifically, "I want to get a pair of glasses that is covered by my plan." The assistant manager I was talking to hesitated, but then set me up with a saleswoman (not the one I worked with before.) She and the saleswoman talked for about five minutes before she came over to talk to me. I showed the saleswoman the frames I wanted, and said I just wanted the plastic lenses covered by my insurance. HER: "Well, to get those frames, we require you to purchase the polycarbonate lenses which are more durable." ME: "I'm required to? Or is that what you recommend. I mean, are you saying that I can't purchase these frames with your basic plastic lenses?" HER: "One moment sir." She went back over and talked to the assistant manager for another five minutes. She came back. HER: "So... you can get them with the plastic lenses, but I want to point out that your vision won't be as clear as with the polycarbonate lenses. ME: "I'm fine with that." So, unsmiling, she processed the order and never once looked me in the eye. In the end, my total came to $2.37. I can live with that... and next paycheck I'm going online to get a pair with Transitions. I guess it's nothing new. Most eyeglass stores are pretty high-pressured, but I've never had it like this where they were on the edge of lying to me. Honestly, if the first saleswoman would have simply told me that I could get a pair completely covered, but here's what it would cost to get the added features I wanted, I probably would have met them in the middle somewhere. But, since they refused to deal honestly with me on what my Vision Plan covered, I'm taking any added money elsewhere. read more

The good: - Easy scheduling, including Saturday and Sunday - Pretty good price, $68 for a contact exam with a BCBS discount - Staff was pretty friendly - Dr. was amiable and did what appeared to be a good exam - For me, close to home The not-so-hot: - I sat in the waiting area with my completed info form for at least 10 minutes while various staff people walked past, and yet not one of them offered to take my form; the doc had to tell me to give it to them. - I spent at least as much time waiting as I did being examined, including waiting for a teenager girl to pick the right shade of green contacts out and spending awhile contact-free and unable to see much. - Got an attempted hard sell on buying contacts from them -- I kind of appreciate the attempt to price-match but I was very much not interested. Seems like if you're patient, firm, and just need the basics, this is a decent choice. read more

I can't say that my entire experience was awful, but I would not recommend other people to go there nor will I return again. Due to my fluctuating vision, I was forced to return multiple (4?) times to see the doctor (I saw a different one EVERY time) and they ultimately referred me to a specialist after much time was wasted. Unless the store is completely dead- do not count on being greeted/welcomed or serviced in the right order. The wait was usually long (even with an appointment) and there was an upset customer most times I returned. We just went to Pearle Vision for my fiancé's glasses because he did not find a style he liked at Vision Works and it was like night and day! I thought that our experience at Vision Works was "normal" - I was sadly mistaken! I would say being able to schedule an exam on the evenings and weekends was great, but now knowing I can go to Pearle Vision- this will be my preference. read more

Worst business I've ever dealt with! Pick any other store and you would have better customer service than this place. Heck even other vision works are probably better than this location. I've sadly made the mistake of giving this place a couple chances and never again will i ever give them my business. You will be wasting your time and energy. First time, I've had to harass them to order trial contacts. Each employee I spoke to said they would take note and order them. Never happened. Repeatedly, I had to keep begging for contact trials to be ordered for 2 months. Recently, I had an error on my prescription which prevented me from ordering contacts online. I called to have it taken care of. The employee said she would write a note for the doctor to take care of it and I could pick it up the next day. I gave them two days, went in and the note/change never existed. Waste of gas and time! Said I will have to return again and I have to be responsible to call the location multiple times to make sure the doctor does his paperwork. Unbelievable. I should not have to call repeatedly to have my needs met nor should I have to make multiple drives to deal with the same matter over and over again. read more

I have always liked the selection at Visionworks. I always thought they do a great job keeping their styles diverse. My girlfriend lives out in this area and so we decided to stop in. I had been looking for the perfect new frames for a few months. I finally found the perfect pair and decided to pull the trigger. The sales lady was very friendly and helpful. I live in the city and cannot make it out to Lombard super often so I asked if she would be able to mail my new glasses to the Visionworks on Clark st in the city. She said no problem! It took about 6 days to come in but that's fine with me. Good things are worth waiting for. I absolutely LOVE my new glasses! read more

Great Service. I switched to them due to insurance changes and they are fabulous. First visit was with my daughter, I was given a quote when asked and at the time of service it was all accurate. The doctor here is very nice and helpful, answers questions as well. The staff, Laura and Hilary both assisted us on our visit, helping choose frames, plus the correct contacts. My husband went here for glasses and contacts because they took our insurance, and the place we had gone to for years no longer did. We weren't expecting anything great, but what we got was awful. My husband was ripped off- we were double charged for the eye glass exam and then they added a hidden fee of "contact fitting" which was never explained until AFTER the insurance was billed and we had to pay more money. Also, they didn't read our policy correct and said only contacts OR glasses were covered and tried to charge an additional $400 for his glasses. We called the insurance, they were both supposed to be covered. When I called the guy refused to make the proper corrections and refund our money, then hung up on me. When I asked about the random charges for the "contact fitting" he said they were on our bill- when I looked at the receipt it was not on the bill. Also, the eye doctor wanted to dilate my husbands eyes but REFUSED to tell us why, his answer was "I just need to dilate his eyes". He said it was an extra cost but worth it, and once again would just say "I need to do it". If I could give this place a negative star I would. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

VERY LOW CUSTOMER SERVICE So I walked in because I've been wanting some pair of glasses of course, I'm waiting for someone to approach to ask questions but no one came I saw a guy sitting down there, so far there's two employees so I'm just oh okay no big deal they're just with a customer so I'm just looking around seeing what glasses to get and still no one approaches to see if I need anything were talking about 10- 15 minutes me just looking around, so the guy that was sitting down apparently it wasn't a customer it was an employee and walks to the back at that point I got upset so In reality there's 3 employees instead of two and no one asked if I need help or if I had any questions at this point I walked away. I'm here thinking huh maybe it's me I don't look presentable I only have sweatpants and a shirt but does that really matter? I had my wallet and insurance card ready to purchase some glasses. I get more customer service at Spencer's or Claire's. I made this account just to rate this store just because I don't look presentable doesn't mean I'm not gonna buy anything don't assume always ask. I'm only giving them a 2 star because of the Dr. If it were based on the staff it would be a 0 stars. That Jasmine's tongue is too slick. I called for a third time for my lenses and she told me they were in and that I could come in tomorrow to pick them up. I said why tomorrow and she responded " I was still speaking." She went on to say or tonight and they close at nine. It was 8:00. When I get there she hands me one box for my right eye, with no explanation for the left eye. I asked about the left and she said only the right eye box was in and that's why I hadn't been called. I asked her why she didn't tell me that when I called. She said she was unaware it was only the right box. Common sense would tell you to check to confirm the order was complete. I told her I need another trial pair since the left eye box was not in. Another rep said they didn't have my RX in trial. I advised him that the Dr. gave me a trial. He goes in the back and comes back with the left only and says I have the right already. Told him I wasn't opening the main box until the main left box was in as well. He went to get the right eye trial...Surprise Surprise they didn't have a right eye trial. I took the left eye trial and the main right eye box and walked away, turning around in time to see Jasmine snicker at what she thought was behind my back. I asked what was funny and asked for her name. I want the Drs. to know about the front representation. The last time I used them for my eye service I thought the representative was just having a bad day. Now I'm convinced they need to be retrained on customer service. read more
