Front folks were friendly and not pushy. I gave the review 4 out of 5 stars, because one pair of glasses took 2 weeks longer to get, and the Text messaging never came through to tell me they were ready for pickup (I had to play phone tag to keep checking if the glasses arrived). It's the rest of the employees. Last year I encountered a horrible employee when bringing my kids in for their annual eye exam. He was rude, pushy and very judgmental. I hoped to never encounter him again. Well unfortunately I did. When bringing my daughter in this past weekend for her exam I just prayed we weren't going to get him again, but we did. Found out his name is Tony. To say he is rude is an understatement. It's been a day since my appointment and I still can't get over how rude and uncomfortable I felt, and that he's still there after reading multiple horrible reviews about him. I am on a strict budget and felt very judged by him when purchasing her new glasses. He was literally angry when I didn't want to upgrade her lenses or add anything else. They are the worst. First off, waited 45 mins to be seen and we were 1 of 2 families in there. As we were waiting we went to sit at a table, the lady at the desk stated "you can't sit there, we help customers there". Again, no one was waiting around besides us and someone else. So we got up to stand by a table. "Sorry, you also can't stand there, the Dr ends his visits there". Paid $65 for a contact consultation on top of the exam fee which was the same exact exam as mine for glasses. There was nothing different about it. I noticed the prices of glasses on the VisionWorks website were $100 cheaper in store. I have been a client of Visionworks for 5 years. I visit the Bloomingdale location for exams & glasses. First, a new doctor sends me to Wheaton Eye Clinic for what I am not exactly sure & when I got there the ophthalmologist did not know why I was there either. Now, my husband & I changed our Medicare Advantage Plan after 4 years & I called the store to inquire if they were in network with our new plan. The person who answered the phone was so rude & refused to check if we would be covered. She told me to check the back of my insurance card & it did not have information about vision. I was online on the insurance carriers site trying to find Visionworks but the carrier has the optometrists by the doctors name. What a rude, disrespectful, & probably unknowledgeable person to be answering the phone. We now do not care if Visionworks is in network, we are finding a new vision provider! No stars read more

I had my eye exam and ordered new glasses a month ago. I was told they would be ready in 10-14 days. It's twice that now, and I still do not have what I paid a good amount of money for. You call the location and get an AI answering service that tells me that they have delayed my order so that the glasses are made correctly and can not give me any idea of when they will be available. Also, some should call me within 3-5 days with an update. No one has called. Someone should have called to advise me of this significant delay. This is the first and only time that I will be bringing my business here. Note their 2 star rating. read more

I'm just so unhappy with this place. I came here a couple years ago to get a new pair of glasses. My prescription was different than my contacts, I [thought I] had good vision insurance, and I just really wanted a new pair. Visionworks was my choice because this was the nearest location that was covered by my insurance. The doctor made me wait forever (I was the only person waiting to be seen), ran all the typical eye tests, gave me some prescription to try contacts, and ushered me over to one of the ladies behind the desk for some glasses fittings. I selected one of the lower-cost pairs with regular lenses and declined the 'special' of "buy one pair, get one half-price." New contacts? Forget it. My insurance only covered glasses or contacts, not both. Since glasses were more important at the time, I opted to get just glasses. I don't know what the heck my insurance covered and where all the prices added up, I paid $300 OUT OF POCKET WITH INSURANCE... including some bogus $60 "contact consultation' fee. What, the piece of paper the doctor handed me with the prescription? That alone cost sixty effin' dollars? I had already gone through with everything and really needed glasses, so I had no choice but to pay for everything. I was pretty livid. I've also had to get my glasses tightened here three times in the last two years (the screws fell out and my glasses fell off my face) and they're getting loose again (like, slipping around on my face and falling off). I'm glad the people here tighten my glasses with no fees or problems, but do I really need to have them tightened that often?? None of my other glasses ever did that. Ugh. Unfortunately, glasses are kind of expensive so I'll be dealing with this pair for awhile. I can't remember what I did about new contacts. I think I ordered them elsewhere. I'm honestly shocked reading some of these other reviews! I went in about two weeks ago and had never had a vision exam done before. From start to finish, everyone I talked to was really polite and helpful. Dr. Shukla made me feel so comfortable during the exam and answered all of my questions very knowledgeably. I want to advise all to never go to VISION WORKS for exam and glasses. My husband, who needs a pretty strong correction, went there and paid over $500 for glasses. He thought there was something wonky with the prescription from the beginning but was willing to give it time to adjust. After seeing his ophthalmologist, he was assured that the script WAS wrong. He went back to Vision Works today and was told oops! It's over 60 days (maybe around 90?). They would not correct the lenses, told him it would cost another $500 if he wanted to replace them! I used to be a die-hard Pearl Vision fan until the one in Bloomingdale gave me a pair of lenses that were hacked to crap. They looked terrible! The edges weren't even smooth. So when it came time to finally get a new pair of glasses, I decided to try Visionworks. I got two pair for under $300 (out of pocket since I use my vision benefits for contact lenses). Turned out the problem I was having was because silly me didn't elect to get the anti-glare lenses which make a real difference for someone with poor vision such as myself. So they took back BOTH pairs of glasses and made new lenses for each and there was no additional cost other than the difference for the anti-reflective lens which I would have paid anyway had I chosen that lens to begin with. My first visit to Visionworks was to find glasses for a new prescription. The staff were friendly enough, but the person helping me didn't really offer any suggestions when I was having difficulty. I did end up picking a pair of frames, though. However, even after being told the lenses would be done in a hour, I received a call saying they had to be done out-of-house. I picked them up 7 days later. They were great...until I returned four more times for adjustments. Now, I understand that frames sometimes just don't work for a person. But, the service I received is the reason for my poor review. Each time I went, the staff were helpful initially, until I would question why I was having so much trouble. Rather than admitting the frames may not be for me, I was told it was "normal wear," or "frames often need adjustments after a while" or "it's probably just frame fatigue." But, when I would remind them that I had only had the frames a few days...well, suddenly they had no response. After almost two weeks, I was in need of another adjustment (#5). This time, I walked in and stated I was hoping to find new frames. Instead of helping me find the right replacement, the girl told me to look around and continued to make phone calls to remind people they're due for their eye exam. I looked for 30 minutes with no offer of assistance. By then, I was very upset, walked up to the counter and stated, to a different person, that I need to make a return. He then spent another 20 or so minutes trying to help, but by then I'd tried on so many pairs I was over it. Then, the kicker...he couldn't give me a refund that night because there were not enough sales from the day. When I questioned, he pointed to the computer and said "it's an old system" but that he would call me tomorrow after two people came in for exams and make the credit card refund. Since it's 2013 and I've NEVER had a retail establishment refuse to provide a credit card refund, I called customer service. The rep that called the store and came back on the phone to tell me that, while it's not their company's policy to require a certain amount of funds in sales prior to providing a refund, the supervisor told her it was "his preference" to delay the refund to "avoid a negative balance." Needless to say, the lack of customer service and being LIED TO ("it's an old system" after all), I will never be back. read more

It's was the first time coming in today the doctor was very nice and friendly but the staff was so unprofessional and talking about immigration I felt so uncomfortable and they didn't help me pick which eyeglasses fix me well and when I pick my glasses one of the staff told me to go sit down she will be with me shortly but she was still talking to the other staff while I was sitting there for 15 mins waiting for her. Purchased a pair of glasses a year ago, which needed to have one screw replaced. I've done that many times, and it's literally a minute and a half job. Approaching the store, I saw a check in desk with hand sanitizer, so waited there. An employer, I'm assuming a "manager" approached me. I explained what I needed to the woman, who proceeded to very rudely inform me that no one could help me just then. I understand and she says if I go "sit outside", they'll do the repair as soon as possible. Takes my phone number. I sit in the mall for an hour, and then head back. Not one customer in the store. Inquire about my glasses and no one has any clue. When they finally find them (untouched) they say they still don't have time to do the 90 second repair on my $450 glasses. No customers, 6 employees, NEVER an issue before. NON-EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE-RUDE EMPLOYEES. I fully understand COVID related issues, but really folks. There are many optical stores that can provide a service with at least a nod to customer service. Please find one and do not patronize this one. read more

I use to go to Optica eye center and not only were they so awful in advising me, they were also rude when asking for assistance. All the staff there were very inclined to help me and my doctor was great at advising my with all my questions. The selection and display was also great! If I could give ZERO stars I would.. I have given Visionworks more than a few chances to redeem themselves as a quality and competent vision care provider and they have failed every time. From incorrect lenses received on my child's glasses to waiting almost a month for the replacements, only to again be sent back because they were not polycarbonate to just recently waiting 3 weeks for an appointment just to choose new frames for my son. When I arrive? They tell me they left vm (I specifically asked email's or Texts only as correspondence when I made appointment) they "couldn't get approval for frames. This appointment was made 3 weeks prior and they scramble to get approval 3 days before?? When I asked this "Manager" to call again while I waited she replies "Its a rather timely process, I have to wait for a fax and this can take an hour". They had 3 weeks to handle this. Comedy of errors ,overall in every single time I visited . I left and made ONE call to America's Best..they handled everything while my son and I chose his frames. I was out of there Super satisfied within a half hour. The same day, not an appointment weeks out. I knew this process couldn't he as complicated or archaic as the one that I experienced at Visionworks...never again. read more

If I could give this place a zero rating I would! Whereas I was very satisfied with the eye doctor, the staff is absolutely horrible!! They are incompetent, arrogant, and just don't give a damn! I went for an eye exam and placed an order for contacts and was told that I would receive my contacts within two weeks. After three weeks waiting I telephoned them and they said they had no record of my transaction and no order was placed. I was absolutely livid!! . The manager had the nerve to ask me to drive back to their location so she could see my receipt even though I gave her the receipt number, the receipt date and time. The charge also hit my bank account. To put me off, she said that she would look into it and call me back. After waiting all day and no resolution, I decided to call my bank to have the charge reversed. I called visionworks back and they kept me on hold purposely for over a half hour until I finally hung up. The funny thing is, the new associate that was taking care of me at the time, who I felt was also incompetent, complained of how antiquated their computer system was. Well low and behold, they can't find my receipt nor order! There are far too many places to get an eye exam and contact lenses from, so I suggest before you waste your time and get an unnecessary headache, please consider going somewhere else! read more

I have interacted with the General Manager several times and complimented his store for providing a fantastic experience every time my family and I visited. Store has wide variety of accessories and stored them in a nicely manner where all customers can easy to access. Staff members were also nice and very helpful. After hearing about this I called him and his apology after me explaining how upset she was "I'm sorry you feel this way" totally unacceptable. This place is TERRIBLE! Horrible service. I waited 2 plus hours for my appointment. They were over staffed but no one was helpful or checking on patients. Most of them were just standing around. No friendly factor or sense of urgency when there was a rush. After about an hr of waiting I asked about the wait and assured me I was next. But I waited for another hr and a half before I actually was seen. People with later appointments were even seen before me! They didn't even try to compensate or make my visit a better experience. The only reason I give this place a star is because of the doctor. Who was nice. He deserves a better staff because his staff is making him look bad. Very bad. I gave the one star for the cute frames. Firstly-- the doctor was lovely , but she gave my 7 year old who never had eye issues and had an exam that was 20/20 six months earlier a script of farsighted and nearsightedness with horrible astigmatism. She wore glasses for a month before she developed headaches that tookme to a real optometrist. Her script? Yeah no correction needed, with very mild astigmatism that does not need correction yet! Secondly, my glasses are still not fixed. It's been 2 months. The girls are all rude, so I fight with them more than talk I got one guy who was smart and looked into it, tried to fix them for me but they are not wearable. They say my script has changed but it's the same for the last 15 years. I have them all on file. Now I have to fight to get a refund since its "outside the 30 day refund period!"! 0 stars if I could. Getting glasses during the COVID pandemic is stressful as is. I went in in November to purchase frames. I was with my parents and yes, we were not aware no other people but the buyer could be in the place due to regulations - that is understandable but the attitude was not. My parents were in full compliance with masks and the staff was unnecessarily curt and rude in their attitude. There were no helpful suggestions like "sorry, for safety only she can enter, but you can watch from the other side of the glass" just more like "OUT. You need to go somewhere else in the mall". Overall the attitude was overly curt, over-vigilant and suspicious in spite of me being in compliance of protocols. Nothing technically wrong with their instructions, but no helpful attitude. Unnecessarily curt and unhelpful. I also forgot my prescription (literally true) and as I was re-scheduling whoever attended me (there were 2 women there at the time) said basically if I wasn't going to purchase today they wouldn't have attended me. All in all discouraging. I'm happy to say I had a completely different experience at a different Visionworks following all protocols and still able to be KIND and HELPFUL. read more
