An airline pilot - eyes are pretty critical. Dr M replaced my right lens 4 years ago due to a growing cataract. The lens has been great. Also got great reviews on the lens through my regular eye exams with optometrists at the VA, Costco, and another chain. Dr M and others noticed a developing cataract also in my left eye, but all thought my left lens might last until mandatory retirement at age 65. I just turned 63...it isn't going to make it! Just had my Smile surgery here. Price was hard to beat, the staff was friendly and im still enjoying my new 20/20 vision

I literally came here for a month due to my cousin having her surgery here. Apparently my whole family comes here! Doctors are great, bilingual very courteous. Front office customer service is great, only one little detail extremely blew me off about this place! Towards the end of my cousin's process about to sign paper work and go through with her surgery. My cousin forgets an important document she needed for this surgery so I offered to go to her car and get it. Any who when I go back in the office, I must wait for front office personal to either open the door or ask me what do I need so I may go in. I'm unaware of this lady was a nurse, doctor, or something she wore a white lab coat. But she opens the door and I tell her "can I see my cousin?" Her response in Spanish " Que quieres darle un besito ocupas sobarle la mano ?" Such vulgar sarcasm if I needed to kiss my cousin or hold her hand!! Legit through me off I was ready to explode but I hold my manners considering she was much older then me. Soon enough a relative went out to look for the papers in the waiting room! I got completely disappointed! I was already referring all my co workers with bad vision, friends, ect. My bubble of a wonderful place was bursted due to this rude lady ! Love this place. Doctor is very knowledgeable. I always ask for his suggestions first, then go to our insurance doctor for the second opinion and most of the time the insurance doctor doesn't have same info that dr Mendez has. Strongly recommend Especially for kids! read more

I suffered from astigmatism. After 10 years of contact lenses and 6 pairs of broken glasses I decided to pursue eye surgery. As a medical student in Philadelphia, I was very adamant about finding the finest quality of refractive eye surgery available. Below I structured my experience at Dr. Mendez's Institute of Vision, in order of personal value. 1. Procedure: 10/10 My surgery took approximately 5 minutes. Each eye took on average 60 seconds. The best part about my whole experience was that the operation was completely painless. I denied pain medication, and yet I did not feel a thing. The ReLEx SMILE procedure that Dr. Mendez performs is the latest innovation in vision correction surgery (better than LASIK!). It is minimally invasive and corrected my visual acuity to better than 20/20. 2. Patient care/Staff: 10/10 Dr. Mendez has performed over 1,000 surgeries since the laser procedure received FDA approval in September 2016, which is a testament to his experience and an amazing feat in the practice of Ophthalmology by itself. Dr. Mendez, an internationally recognized eye surgeon and his staff of nurses are the most attentive group of health professionals I have ever experienced during my time as a med student. Dr. Mendez's Institute is cleaner than any clinic I have seen in the US. The operating rooms look like the inside of a space shuttle: white and state-of -the-art. The waiting rooms are made of granite floors, high ceilings, and surround sound, so you have something to listen to while you wait.. While in the recovery room Dr. Mendez told me "Poor vision can rob people of their quality of life, physically, emotionally and socially." To be able to see is an amazing feeling. It's been 3 months now and my vision is perfect reading. I also took my wife in for the Smile LASIK surgery and hers is perfect.

Stay away from this place. Wrote great review when first came here but now i realize how messed up this place is. Was told to come back to pick up results of eye examine. Told me in one week to pickup. Not ready. Came back few days later said b ready later but couldnt wait. So im back 2 days later and again not ready. These idiots have no idea how to do business. From his beautiful building and nice office to the friendly stuff, clean and gorgeous offices to himself with a welcoming face and too much knowledge that impress you. Dr. Mendez and his staff are very professional and knowledgeable and have great understanding of the process to inform each patient according to his/her needs. I had no problems getting into and out of Tijuana to keep my appointments for the lens replacement surgery performed there in the Institute.. Two follow up appointments were kept though cooperation of Dr. Mendez to accommodate this working woman's schedule-he stayed late to meet my needs. I especially appreciate that both eyes were done the same day and I was able to see immediately; there was no pain. Though consistent clarity took a little time it was not so out of focus that I could not work. This was a blessing. I recommend Dr. Mendez for his technical ability, the staff for their participation and understanding, and also the proximity to the border. 20 years ago I had astigmatism and myopia (about 20/400 vision). I'd heard that US eye doctors trained in Mexico to learn the latest procedures which hadn't been FDA approved yet. So in 1998 I got Lasik in both eyes from Dr Mendez Noble (I think that Mendez Noble is now in the Mexicali Clinic). He corrected me to 20/20 and my vision's still that. It took at least 6 or 9 months for the occasional haziness around lights to disappear, but it did clear up. Probably the best $1600 I ever spent. I sleep on my stomach, so I made sure to bring some swimming goggles to put over my eyes for the first few nights a after the surgery, because I didn't want any movement to mess with the surgery. read more

Had my eyes done by dr Mendez 6 days ago , I found him to be vary professional and speaking perfect English. His clinic was clean and had the latest in vision equipment. As far as the surgery choice, the reason I went there was for the smile Lasic procedure, that they don't offer in the US, everything was fast and painless and I'm very happy with the results thus far, dr Mendez said it could take up to six weeks for full clarity.
