Tai-chi-Chuan School of Long Island - Bob Klein's Tai Chi

Tai-chi-Chuan School of Long Island

I have been studying Tai-Chi-Chuan here for approximately 4 years and started here on the…read morerecommendation of my doctor. My teacher, Bob Klein, is incredibly knowledgeable, but humble, patient and kind. He doesn't just teach what the movements of the form look like, he teaches all the inner mechanics which are what make it so beneficial to one's health and the way one feels. It also is what makes it so much fun and interesting. I always say I don't know which it helps more, my body or my brain! He teaches Qigong along with the Tai Chi, in preparation for the movements. He not only teaches you the health benefits of Tai Chi but the martial art aspects of it as well. There are classes for self defence and push hands as well. I noticed after studying with Bob for a while that I was able to apply the movements that I learned in class to the ways I moved in daily life (which has put a lot less strain on my joints) and the philosophies we learned in class that are part of Tai Chi Chuan have helped to reduce stress and to put things in better perspective. When I leave class, my mind is cleared, breathing is slower and if I came in stressed, I leave calm. I feel gratitude for each class. What is so nice about these classes is that one is never made to feel silly or embarrassed no matter how uncoordinated you feel (and believe me, I was very uncoordinated when I first started). He just wants you to learn it so you can get the same benefits and joy that he does from it and he will work with you in whatever way you need to achieve that. Bob encourages questions and never treats any question as silly. He is always happy to patiently go over whatever you need him to. I always come out of class learning something new. If I were to say I really loved going to class or that it has helped me enormously, it would be an understatement. It has literally changed my life. I had a serious accident approximately 3 1/2 years ago seriously injuring my back, ribs and elbow which required surgery. I felt like I could never be the same active person that I had always been. This was just a few months after I had started studying with Bob. I was not able to return to class for 6 months, but fortunately I had his DVD's to work with. As soon as I got out of the hospital I practiced my qigong and form using his DVD's . I was told I would need back surgery (but didn't have it) and that I could never open my arm fully again. I returned to class as soon as I was able to and could drive. I take several classes a week with Bob and practice at home. With class and practice, I cannot believe how good my back feels and I shocked my surgeon by being able to fully open my arm. I can be myself again. In the process I have also come a long way in my understanding of Tai chi. I think this school is unique in the amount of attention each person receives in class, the depth of Bob's knowledge, and the amount of attention to details he provides. It makes all the difference in the way one does the form. Most importantly, Bob and his wife, Jean, who is also certified to teach, and quite often gives us the benefit of her presence in the class as well, create a wonderful environment to learn in, one in which no one ever feels judged. Thank you Bob!

Before I was trained by Sefu Fazil. I always wonder how it feels like getting hit by a motorcycle…read moreor a 1000 lb bear smack. Well I can understand that feeling when he casually kicked the kicking shield that I was holding one day( It was a thick shield like Shallow Hal's gf size). I'm guessing he only kicks me at 60% power since he was very relax. There's one time he was performing his Gung fu form, his move was so powerful, speedy, and deadly. His hands were moving so fast with such tension and strength that I see him as a meat grinder. If I throw my training brothers Van, Chris or Garret in front of him, ( Not Mark) they will have to upgrade their life insurance policy in the ambulance. When I thought of fearless, calm, strength, maximum pain durability. I see his face in my mind instantly. Whenever I am physical exhaust or suffering. I will think about him and tell myself stop whining about it, Master will not even blink his eye at my pain level. It's disgracing him being weak. I was very lucky, grateful and honored to be trained by him. The training was so painful but the accomplishment feeling of that will bring you to a different level mentally and physically. ( Assuming you don't quit halfway and become a loser) If you want to be real man, or want your children to be the real strong one. Send them there and tell Master train them like how he trained his old students. I'm not able to train under him now as life has more priority but I always remember his teaching and love for his students. Memory of training with Sefu Fazil and my training brothers are so great and fulfilling, better than Bruce Lee training with Yip Man. Sefu Fazil is a true Low profile Gung Fu master that I will always remember and respect. Forget about the Tiger Schuman and commercial Tae kwon do class. Join this school and ask Sefu Fazil to train you, then you know what you made of.

I don't attend this school but I get pizza at the pizzeria next door…read more This parking lot has been notoriously crime ridden since I can remember. Robberies, gang members, fights, all sorts of animals starting trouble. I was walking into the pizzeria one evening and the whole class was out in the parking lot practicing bow forms. I never felt safer in that parking lot.
