UMAC - United Martial Arts Center 509 N Bicycle Path, Port…read moreJefferson Station, NY If you're looking for a place that teaches more than punches and kicks, UMAC is where real growth happens. Led by Soke Andrew Stigliano, a lifelong martial artist who developed his own unique style, this school blends traditional discipline with modern, tactical self-defense training. Soke Andrew's focus goes far beyond physical skill -- he instills respect, discipline, confidence, focus, and bully-defense awareness in every student. His programs are designed to shape leaders on and off the mat, teaching accountability, perseverance, and character through every belt level. What makes UMAC special is its sense of community. From women's self-defense workshops to after-school programs and local events, Soke Andrew leads by example -- showing that true martial arts is as much about building strong people as it is about strong technique. Whether you're looking for personal growth or a place your child can thrive, UMAC delivers excellence, integrity, and heart.

Center Island Aikido is BY FAR the best value for Aikido instruction on Long Island. Monthly fees…read moreare very low, and members may attend as many classes as they wish. The dojo is well-lit, clean and spacious, with wall-to-wall high-quality tatami mats on the floor. All instructors are volunteers (which helps keep the fees low), and most have been with the organization for many years. They are very dedicated to the study of Aikido. Many started out in different martial arts backgrounds and bring diverse and valuable perspectives to their Aikido instruction. A student who attends different classes will experience softer styles or more martial styles, acquire exposure to Zen philosophy, and even learn physics that make Aikido so effective and engaging. Aikido's underpinning philosophy does not encourage competition. The goal of Aikido is to blend with and neutralize attacks with as little physical harm to the attacker as is possible, making this a preferred martial art for law enforcement and other institutional personnel to utilize. Since the practice does not involve repetitive kicks and punches, injuries to the practitioner's joints and tissues are largely avoided. Students are instructed in techniques for preventing injury when falling, making this a practical study for anyone who wants to remain active and reduce the chance of severe injuries into old age. I have been to several dojos on Long Island and New York City, and, of those that provide Aikido instruction, Center Island Aikido is my favorite. The instructors and students are definitely the very best part of it!

I would not be exaggerating to say that L.I. Ninjutsu Centers and Shihan Allie, both changed (and…read moresaved) my life. More than once. To be honest, an online review cannot do justice to everything I learned and gained from my training here. I could write a short book about it. Put simply, if you train hard, dedicate yourself, trust the lessons, and stick it out, you will transform your life in ways you simply cannot imagine. My only regret is that I wish I could have started training as a child, because I was often bullied and picked on, and the discipline, confidence and focus I gained would have benefited me even more. If you are a parent, I would not hesitate to say that enrolling your child/children at this school would be one of the best things you could ever do for them.

When I attended this excuse for a school, I came to notice that for the most part of the class he…read moretaught us how to do cartwheels, forward rolls, backward rolls and dive rolls; I could have went to a jungle gym. The little amount of time spent on what supposed to be self defense moves failed when I went to a real martial art school. The instructor had us do reactionary drills, and environment simulation (no mind), where you randomly get a grab or a controlled punch or tackle to have your body to automatically respond to it, his maneuvers failed in a the real world simulation. And to add; no real sparing. There's no head contact or "trapping" blocks involved. How is one going to know how it feels to get hit when engaged in soft sparing. Dont ever sign a contract with king Allie, who thinks he's god's gift to the world. He will take you to court and sue you. He sued me for a lousy 400 dollars. He is also freaky. When he heard that I went to train elsewhere he had "one of his associates" come and spy on me. He left a threatening message on my answering machine, and on the phone when I spoke to him. He threatened me with blackmail. He told me he will contact my new instructor and bad mouth me if I dont pay the 400 dollars. He boasted in so many word that he knows everybody in the local martial art community, and he will ruin my reputation and talk bad about me. The threat failed because he previously spoke to my instructor before the shakedown and threats. My new instructor laughed. I unfortunately trained there for 2 years before I had enough of cartwheels, dive rolls, acrobatics, and holding a wooden sword in my hand for 10 minutes.

Signed up for the kids intro web special for my 4 year old Son. Went to 4-7 year old Bjj class…read more. and a Krav Maga class.. unfortunately we did not make it through either class.. as it was a mixed Age group and there were 12 year olds in both classes...they also mix kids who have been there for years with new students.. the topics discussed is also not fitting for a 4 year old either. as they were obviously meant for the older students in class.. As a new student they were not welcoming at all, The instructor actually said to my 4 year old son "if your scared go sit down with mommy." At his first class! Makes no sense for him to speak about bullies and yet he's bullying my 4 year old.. At the Krav Maga class My son was told to punch and kick.. was never taught how to so he got confused..but then he was told to sit down again.. The classes are also very large cause they want to pack as many students in as possible so the students spend most of the time sitting...there's also no room for the parents to sit and watch either..

My daughter has had some bullying incidents at school in the past and I love how the class has built confidence and the skills to stick up for herself.
