I have an unusually small head (I'm only 5'2") so I often have problems finding glasses that fit me and sometimes have to buy kids sizes - so I figured a place that specialized in women might have a wider range of smaller sizes. Went in and made an appointment for a new eye check up at the same time, no problems, and then came back a week later to see the optometrist. She was super nice, very helpful and gave a lot of advice on whether to consider progressive lenses and what to look for. She also recommended some eyedrops, but unfortunately did not write the name down, so I emailed the place when I remembered later to ask what it was. They said it was probably one of two brands, which they named, but neither seemed familiar so I asked them to check when the optometrist was back in the office and confirm. It's been over a week now and they haven't replied, so unless the optometrist has gone on extended holiday, they've clearly forgotten about me - taking off a star for that :( I found the fitting helpful, it's great to have someone give dedicated 1-on-1 advice about frames and what suits, and they were happy to take a couple of photos with my top choices so I could see how they looked. I was told the glasses would take up to 10 work days to be ready, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear back after only 3 days that they were ready to pick up. I stopped by during my lunch hour to collect them however and this is where the other rating star gets lost - walked in and was completely and utterly ignored. The receptionist was nowhere to be seen, and the two ladies present were fitting other people with glasses and didn't even look at me. Even though one of them must have had to get up and buzz me in, they didn't even acknowledge my existence long enough to ask me to wait a moment. I ended up standing around for at least 5 minutes completely ignored until another customer wrapped up and then one was able to help me collect the new glasses. I returned the weekend after to ask if they could adjust the fit of one earpiece slightly, and exact same experience. No receptionist to be seen, two ladies busy fitting other clients and not a word, not even eye contact, ended up standing around completely ignored for 10 minutes without even being acknowledged or told how long the wait was. This is when I started wandering around to take a few photos of the place to add on Yelp, since apparently nobody even cared that I existed - the optometrist office side of the place was entirely deserted, I could have wandered into the examination offices and rifled through the supplies if I'd wanted to, there was nobody present and nobody paying any attention to me. Finally after a long wait another customer wrapped up and someone was free to help me - at which point she was perfectly polite and helpful to me, but again totally ignored the man who entered while she was talking to me. A few thoughts - first, the optometrist was great, I do like the fitting service, and their selection of smaller sized frames seemed fine. However, where is the receptionist? If the store is open, there should be a receptionist at the desk at all times, which means providing cover for her lunch and other breaks. If that's not possible, then ALL staff should be ready to promptly greet new customers and provide an idea of the wait time. Completely ignoring customers is a terrible experience and conveys a complete lack of interest in the customer and a lack of value for our time. The fact they've completely forgotten to answer my email emphasizes this. The customer service (or lack of) is definitely detracting from what would otherwise have been a good experience here, which is quite disappointing.

They messed up my prescription twice and thus, I had to pick them up after my mom's were finished. When I went to pay, they told me that everything had been cleared up by my mom a few weeks earlier. 3 years later now, I am receiving collections calls from an agency for an unpaid balance I had no idea existed. Don't get me wrong, I am all for paying for products and services. But this company has never contacted me once personally to explain the mixup and now, hearing about it through a collections agency 3 years later is insulting. I have tried calling Women With Vision and no-one returns my calls. I will definitely not be recommending them to anyone any time soon. When i received my order i noticed that i couldn't see well out of either the glasses or contact lenses. I went back to see what the issue was and had my eyes tested again and received a different prescription. This was within weeks....the original prescription i was given was wrong...obviously. Instead of taking responsibility for this mistake they in fact made me pay for the visit and did nothing about the glasses or contacts that were now useless. Be aware of the clinic you are going to that's all I'm going to say. I won't be going back ever. Since my visit I've heard from friends that this has happened to them also at this clinic.

Glasses Half Full has totally changed by view of seeing an optometrist and shopping for glasses…read more Most of the time going for an eye exam and shopping for glasses is an unremarkable experience- you show up, put your face in a contraption, and have various instruments test your eyesight. You then wade through waves of similar brands and most stores are indistinguishable from one another. Glasses Half Full flips this on its head! The optometrist is friendly, the technology they use for eye exams is way less annoying than usual, and the brands they sell are independent and unique. The store staff make you feel comfortable and it's clear there is pride in what they do. The store features many independent brands that I hadn't heard of before. If you're more comfortable sticking with existing brands, you're better off looking elsewhere but I went in with an open mind and found myriad pairs of glasses that I honestly really liked. Their website displays that "it is [their] mission to re-envision optometry in Edmonton." While I'd normally roll my eyes at such a lofty goal, shopping here has solidified that they are indeed something special. This will be my go-to optometry stop now and I'm strangely already looking forward to the next time I need a new pair of glasses!

I would rate Second Specs 3.5 stars. There are great advantages to get glasses here; reasonable price, direct billing to insurance companies, and quick service. But I found the quality of my product wasn't as good as other opticals I have purchased glasses at. I stumbled upon it as I was walking in the mall and was looking for new glasses. They are a local company with 2 locations in West Edmonton Mall and recently opened up shop in Cross Iron Mills just outside of Calgary. The frames are around the kiosk and most available to try on unless you are looking at the brand name ones they carry. They carry Ray Ban, Nike, and others but the selection isn't as big as at other opticals. There is a colour variety and I found a number of purple frames to try on. Most of the frames I noticed were plastic. Once I picked out the frames I wanted, I had to wait for service. I have noticed that they can get busy and with typically 2 staff working, there could be a wait. I provided my prescription and they did they measurements and adjustments to the frames. I paid the $308 for my glasses which was a lot cheaper than other places where the price is at least double. Two days later I was in the mall and decided to ask if my glasses were in and was told they would be ready in about an hour or two. I went back to pick them up about an hour later and they were adjusted and on my way! When I got home, I noticed a few things about my glasses. There was some glue on the arm of the frame, and lenses, and some screws were dark and some light. That evening, one of the nose pads fell off! (Which has never happened with any of my glasses). I was able to find the screw after squinting looking for it on the bathroom floor and put it back in with my glasses repair kit. Since the first day, I had to tighten a screw to keep the arm in place once but hope the problem is fixed. Without these problems, this review would be 4. They likely didn't do a thorough check on my glasses to clean the glue off and ensure the screws were tight as they wanted to get them to me promptly. Two days for glasses, is a quick turnaround time. The opticians are friendly if you don't mind you may have to wait for service. Price is great for those who don't have coverage, need glasses for children, or want a few pairs. I also wear contacts so it worked out to get glasses from here.

I mentioned that Alberta Health should fully cover their annual eye exams, but the receptionist couldn't provide an answer and forwarded me to the manager, Matthew. Matthew explained that the additional charge was due to a change in Alberta Health's coverage. I was skeptical, so I called other eye care centers nearby to ask if any additional fees applied. The eye care center told me that as long as the exam is done once a year, it's fully covered by Alberta Health. I called Matthew back and shared what I had learned. His office/location had simply decided to charge an extra fee. If they want to add a fee, that's their choice, but they shouldn't mislead patients by claiming that Alberta Health changed its coverage because if that were the case, all eye care centers would be charging patients for the portion not covered by Alberta Health. So, I booked my children's annual eye exam at a different eye care center, which Alberta Health fully covers. Businesses should be upfront about their fees instead of misleading customers. Trust is built on transparency; patients deserve to know the truth rather than being misled into unnecessary charges.
