I have to write this update because when a business does the right thing, I feel compelled to let…read moreeveryone know. After I had written my review, and sent a similar letter directly to the email address on the Hawley Lane Opticians' site, I received a very, very nice letter of apology from the Manager of Hawley Lane Opticians. I must say, I am impressed. This gentleman may have refreshed my faith in humanity! He wrote an incredible letter of apology and concern for the integrity of his business. As a former business woman with several businesses of my own, I feel that customer service remains the number one responsibility of a good company. And good customer service is what keeps a business actually in-business. What this manager has accomplished is multi-fold. He has restored my faith in his business, and he has put a stopper on the wrath that I would have continued to spread on this business. I am sincerely grateful for the concern regarding the reputation of this business. In the manager's letter of apology he had also informed me that he is reiterating the need for good customer service to his staff. This is so important to me. Based on the responsiveness, and consideration that this manager has shown me, I am willing to give his business another chance. And I want to share this enlightenment with the rest of the Yelp world.

When we needed the lenses replaced a few years later, it turned into a whole dramatic ordeal and took weeks when it should have been a quick fix. I recently called them again to ask for my husband's PD because we found glasses online that he liked and we are updating his prescription. They refused to give it out because we aren't buying from them this time. Never use this place. They are a waste of space.

My husband and I have always been pretty picky when it comes to optometrists, and given that you…read moreonly need to go once a year, it's been hard to find someone we truly liked... until Dr. Hochberg. He's super knowledgable and attentive. He's also one of the first optometrists that is sensitive enough not to make me feel bad about my vision but suggests ways to protect my eyes. For example, he suggested that my husband gets glasses that filter out blue wavelengths (since these tend to be the ones that are most harmful to vision). The last time we went, we were rather rushed because the only available time slot was the morning when my father was due to arrive at Bradley Airport. Never before had I felt so much like a demanding customer, constantly rushing to see if we could either wrap up early, or prepay so we wouldn't have to pay after the checkup. I felt badly, but also didn't want to keep my father waiting at the airport! Dr. Hochberg and his staff were as considerate and patient as can be. He didn't cut any corners despite my attitude and ensured we got a full checkup before departing.

Bad lenses or bad prescription? You wear glasses long enough…read moreto know that changing a new prescription requires time for your eyes to adjust, Unfortunately by that time your return policy window has closed. When you go back and ask them to adjust the frames and ask them to measure your PD, they don't. So you spend 4 hours on hold and speaking to customer service only to find out they don't actually do anything but call the store directly. If the store decides no, America's best company does nothing tO intercede on their customers behalf. I have wasted my benefit on an exam, and $500 on glasses I can't wear. Deciding if I have the fortitude to deal with the store directly again as their customer service did not make me feel valued or respected.

I am incredibly disappointed with every level of my experience with America's Best in Stratford…read more It started with the ordering process. Extra stuff was added to my bill (a warranty for $25 that I was never asked about) and the cost for various extras was never discussed with me. They forgot to charge me for my exam. When I went back in to clear things up I got some serious pushback and attitude from some staff members who spoke about me like I wasn't there sharing inaccurate information about why I came back. Fast forward to today and I called to get an update on my order (you can only get updates by calling). My first call had a lot of "umm" and "hmm" that resulted in me being told they'd need to call me back after a deeper dive into my order status. I call back after about an hour and a half and I get put on hold, which is fine. My update was that I should expect a call early next week. Or, maybe late next week. That was it. I call corporate customer service and had a really lovely interaction with someone who quickly tells me my order left the manufacturing facility at a specific time yesterday, was in-transit with UPS, and was expected at the store on Tuesday. She had no clue why the store staff wouldn't just tell me that during my first or second call. The questionable customer service and ridiculous wait time are not worth the low prices. My family has had four other complete pairs of glasses from three different companies delivered between June 30th and today. America's Best started the process on June 29th. There were opportunities to mend the interaction, but this location just didn't seem interested in getting that done. Go with Zenni if you want a quality inexpensive frame delivered. Target Optical if you want designer frames in-network. Warby Parker if you're in a place to wait for reimbursement.
