Good place for an eye exam. The staff is pretty friendly; however, 2 staff members are very knowledgeable and helpful in the optical area

He's super knowledgable and attentive. He's also one of the first optometrists that is sensitive enough not to make me feel bad about my vision but suggests ways to protect my eyes. For example, he suggested that my husband gets glasses that filter out blue wavelengths (since these tend to be the ones that are most harmful to vision). The last time we went, we were rather rushed because the only available time slot was the morning when my father was due to arrive at Bradley Airport. Never before had I felt so much like a demanding customer, constantly rushing to see if we could either wrap up early, or prepay so we wouldn't have to pay after the checkup. I felt badly, but also didn't want to keep my father waiting at the airport! Dr. Hochberg and his staff were as considerate and patient as can be. He didn't cut any corners despite my attitude and ensured we got a full checkup before departing.

Kudos for making this visit as easy as he could. The office is absolutely not set up for patients in wheelchairs and we used her smaller one. The office was crowed and there is way too much furniture to comfortably navigate. The outer office waiting area does not have a wheelchair "parking" area. Now onto the eye exam . . . without Gregory, it would have been hard to complete. The equipment for the pre-exam portion is not handicap friendly. Luckily, this patient can stand for a short time. For one portion, her wheelchair wouldn't fit the area and she had to move to the chair. Now onto the actual eye exam, I knew that she would have to move to the chair but how do people who can't get out of their wheelchairs get eye exams? This really made me think and I want an answer to this? Let's discuss picking out new glasses for the wheelchair bound patients. Ugghhhhhhhhhh. There was no good spot for this either. We were in the way of everyone and there was not comfortable location for her to see in the mirror. The kind employee had to keep bring over the table mirror for her to see the glasses. Felt rushed to complete the process due to space constraint. This is not a great location for wheelchair patients.

As soon as I was done with Dr. Grand she (and the 'check in' woman to an extent) started making fun of me because I said I would buy my glasses elsewhere. This went on for several minutes. Their frames are marked up to an obscene price and you'd have to be an idiot not to go elsewhere, especially trying to stay within your insurance allowance for eyeware. I am on Medicare, live off of disability-I am not paying hundreds of dollars in store when I can get identical glasses and stay within my insurance allowance at another store or online. She made me feel two inches tall and very angry. No one is obligated to buy their glasses-someone needs to fire her. I would go back for my yearly exam if she is not there and the sales were not so nastily aggressive.

I was told i would receive a confirmation call the day before with the cost for my eye exam. I called them the morning of since i hadn't received a call. I spoke to Ruth Ann who scheduled my appointment in person, she tells me "im sorry, i dont know what happened". I reschedule the appointment over the phone with Ruth Ann, I stated my concern about the appointment she didn't schedule correctly while I was in front of her. She asked if i wanted to schedule with someone else, and i said "i just want my appointment scheduled correctly". So here it is 2 days before the appointment and i get a confirmation call from Andrew confirming the date and time which was 9 a.m. Then i get a confirmation text saying my appointment is at 10 a.m. When i called and spoke to Andrew all he could say is "there is someone else who has been in the 9 o'clock time slot". No shit because you guys dont know how to do your jobs properly. I cant speak for the doctors there, but the front staff needs work on how to schedule properly. This complaint is not speaking about the tech who assits with the glasses, shes amazing.

Because the arm came loose from the frames in both pairs they can't be repaired. It's not that the screw fell out; there's not enough or strong enough glue to hold the arm to the frame (see photo). Fortunately, I bought the warrantee, but that was only good for the first pair. The second pair - well, too bad - comes out of my pocket. I have Husky insurance. Most of us on Husky are very poor. Like me, for instance. "Let's see.....do I eat and buy a bus ticket, or do I pay for new glasses?" STAY AWAY! /end rant

That is why i have been seeing her for about 9-10 years, maybe more... BUT to get to Dr Scanlon you have to get passed the trolls. The customer service in the front of the vision center is some of the worst I've ever experienced. I'm surprised these women still have jobs here with the way they treat and talk to people. Rude, short, snippy. They act as if you are bothering them. Whenever you walk in, most times you are made to wait a minute or so before you are acknowledged or helped, even when there is no one else there. Standing there is awkward. One of the trolls is worse then the others, but the others seem to follow suit when she is there. And on this last visit I noticed cleaning practices slacking. I watched the main troll put dirty glasses that people tried on right back on the display without cleaning them. How unsanitary... I decided to get glasses elsewhere. I'll be back in a year or two for Dr Scanlon, but if she wasn't so amazing I would never recommend this place. My advice, Just get your exam and then run far away from this place...

She is extremely professional and very kind, understanding and gives quality care. I feel like it's not that easy to find that these days everyone Dr. seems like they're in a rush and don't really give you the time of day. Thank you Dr. Scanlon!
