My daughter have an upcoming Wisdom teeth consultation, so I called my Insurance Company to see if it was covered. Calling my Insurance Dental Dental told me wisdom teeth removal is covered under the Medical side instead of Dental. So, I called Virginia Oral with my Insurance just to be sure it will be covered and make sure it is billed correctly. We asked the customer service person if this will be billed as Dental or Medical and they could not say until my daughter visits the office. I say this is crazy because all you have to do is consult with the billing department and make sure we don't get a big bill. The Customer Service person failed us as a customer and will not give them my business. Please verify with your Insurance depending on your service and don't rely on Customer service to give you the correct information. This will prevent you from getting a big bill because of a billing error. read more

I normally wouldn't leave a bad review, bc I know how difficult it is to run a small business. However after all this happened the doctor left me a voicemail fully blaming his staff without taking any ownership of the situation. What happened in my case was a series of unfortunate events bc of their poor management. My parents have a small clinic as well so I am very familiar with the process of how to manage a medical office. Their first issue I was not on their calendar. I did not get any type of follow up that patients usually receive before a few days before a procedure, assuming they have one those in place. A call or an email to remind you to fast and remind you "hey tomorrow we will see you". They took my payment then asked me to wait 20 mins in the car and they will call me when they were ready to "squeeze me in". After 40 mins of waiting in the car, I called them to ask if they had forgotten about me. Then they asked me to go to their office to wait another 20 mins in their waiting room. The entire time no one from management approached me for an explanation. As I am waiting I notice patients who arrive are receiving bags to prepare for the week ahead. I did not receive anything. As I verbalized to the receptionist that I was getting impatient, they finally took me the procedure room. They asked me to take off my contacts, and then they asked me if I had fasted. Of course not. I had my consultation a month ago and had made the appointment via email after they had sent me the summary of care statement. That's the only reason they were able to prove I had made the appointment. And I was able to remember because I set up a reminder for myself. Both my fiancé and I took time off from work to go in that day. We cancelled other plans this weekend bc I was going to be in recovery. I was left with wasting my time and no contacts ( I can barley see anything without contacts). I went to get a refund right away. No one came to talk to me to explain what had happened. Not the doctor, any person whom had made the mistake, and she didn't say anything. You don't let a customer walk away upset without doing something in your power to fix it. I would've expected the doctor or an office manager to come talk to me. Offered a resolution for their lack of commitment and communication . We just left their office today (8/28/23)where my 6 year old son was supposedly get an evaluation for removal of a few teeth. And this one became of the worst visits to a medical office i encountered. The medical assistant that was assigned to us was very rude an unprofessional. I didnt get her name but she was appears millennial and caucasian. Instead of being approachable and helpful , she acted so freaking rude in front of my 6 year old like she didn't even want us there. Maybe because we're asian? I believe she's racist. She mostly like acted differently if we were white. On the the other, the black girl on the front desk was so nice and helpful. She even tried to get us a different medical assistant because she she knew how rude the other person was. They were completely opposite! My son's wisdom teeth removal surgery with Dr. Gocke turned into a nightmare. We didn't know what happened during the procedure but my son had serious side effects after the surgery. After my son woke up from general anesthesia, he started feeling spinning, nausea and vomiting a few times. Other than giving him an anti-nausea shot, Dr. Gocke did nothing else. His nurse staff kept asking if my son was OK to leave even though he still felt pretty bad. It was Friday afternoon and the office was closing. I guess they all wanted to go home. After my son went back home he started developing a series of problems. He kept feeling dizzy for the entire 10 days after the surgery! and it got worse and worse every day. I called and left VM over the weekend but never got a callback. I called again on Tuesday. We were told to stop taking the antibiotic and call the primary doctor if the condition does't improve. It seems to me they don't want to offer any more help. On Wednesday I took my son to see his pediatrician and was diagnosed with orthostatic hypotension (dehydration?). however, his condition kept getting worse even though he was drinking a lot of water. On Friday evening he felt extremely dizzy and the whole world was spinning around him. We had no choice but to take him to the ER. According to the ER doctor, my son had Vertigo due to an inner ear balance issue possibly caused by the surgery. Anti-nausea IV and pill were prescribed and since then he started feeling better. It took him more than 10 days to fully recover. We are not happy with the way Dr. Gocke's office handled the situation. They were just cold and not helpful at all. I do not recommend this doctor. BTW they prescribed a wrong antibiotic medicine even though we told them in the form that my son is allergic to Augmentin. They prescribed a new one and I had to make a second trip to the pharmacy and pay an extra $ for it. and I noticed a patch below his mouth is still there. read more

I had a tooth extracted by Dr. Gocke based on a referral by my regular dentist. I was given a statement of total charges of $495, out of which my estimated share was $175 which I paid. I have dental insurance and Dr. Gocke is an in-network provider. The benefit statement from my dental insurance reported the total charges a little over $500 and showing my share was only $34. When I contacted the office for a refund, I was told there were additional fees due to Covid-19 which was more than the difference. This fee was never mentioned during my visit. Bottom line - no refund. The extraction also created many sores in my mouth especially near the site of the extraction. After a very cursory look, he sold me a $40 bottle of gel that did not work. The over-the-counter oral gel worked much better. So beware of hidden fees and over-priced products. read more

I RARELY write reviews, but sometimes when you have such a stellar experience you just have to! I just had all my wisdom teeth removed a week ago with Dr. Gocke. I have a low pain tolerance and I was really nervous. From the initial contact I knew I had found the right place. Holly is their receptionist and extremely kind, pleasant, patient , and accommodating. Their appointments were very flexible and they were able to get me in surgery 2 days since I started having some discomfort. I'll break down my experience below but I want to highlight how the ENTIRE team made me feel at home! I don't know how they managed to make wisdom teeth removal an actually enjoyable experience! So grateful for each and every one of them. Shout out to Ingrid and Kate and of course Holly. All the ladies in this office were just so sweet, genuine, and accommodating! Initial appt/Pre-op: Dr. Gocke was extremely knowledgeable and patient. He never seemed annoyed or in a hurry and answered all's my questions and concerns in a way that made me feel that everything I asked was important. Genuinely a very like able doctor and that's a bonus! Surgery day: As soon as I arrived Ar 8:30am I felt extremely welcome. Throughout the entire process (before and after putting me to sleep) I felt so at ease and comfortable which is rare because I'm a nervous wreck. Im scared of needles but thankfully I had the laughing Gad before they put the IV in. Then lights out! Apparently I woke up (I don't remember) and said some funny things..lol my first memory is being at home and asking for food! No Pain whatsoever! At night I started feeling a tad bit discomfort (not pain, remember my tolerance is nill) and I took the prescribed ibuprofen (600 mg) and continued about my day like normal. I do remember sleeping a lot. Recovery: Everything was great the first two days, still no pain! However , I did not follow drs instructions and started working out and not eating liquid food like I was supposed to ( I know, I know , I'm awful) so then I started feeling a lot of pain and had to take the Oxycodone I was prescribed. I waited it out a day or two since I did fine with the meds, but then I got concerned I may have dry socket. I called in first thing Monday morning and they were able to see me right away! Thank you Holly! I came in and Dr said I quite possibly dry socket that had begun to happen. He gently irrigated it, numbed me up (I was given the option) and sealed the tooth with something that eventually falls off in a day or two. The procedure hurt a little since I was off meds. But manageable. That did it for me! Back to no pain and zero discomfort! It's day 7 now and I'm at my post op appointment and I feel great and 90 percent back to normal. Thank you Dr Gocke And staff! Im saddened to say goodbye! But I will refer all my friends and family and hopefully see them all again! read more

I was referred to Dr. Gocke after I unexpectedly broke my #31 molar. The dentist that I saw gave me only a 30% chance of a successful root canal, so I decided to just have the tooth replaced. Dr. Gocke saw me that same day. He and his assistants spent several minutes explaining the extraction and replacement procedure, and immediately prepped me for surgery. The extraction went smoothly and I was sent home without delay. Dr. Gocke even called me personally the next day (a Saturday) to see how I was doing. A few months later, I went in to the get implant and once again the procedure was smooth and relatively painless. Dr. Gocke's office is clean and comfortable and his assistants are very skilled in patient care. The insurance estimate that I received was spot-on and comparable to other providers in the area. First mistake: I was referred to Dr Michael Timothy Gocke by Virginia Hospital Center after I broke two of my teeth. It was over the weekend so I had an impossible time getting a hold of any dentists. I understand that Gocke is an oral surgeon, and dentistry is not what he specifically does. However the hospital said that he was highly recommended and it was unlikely I would get an appointment with anyone else. My experience was terrible. He barely looked at my teeth ($125 consultation) and immediately said that I needed a ct scan to see if my jaw was broken. This is where I should have said, "but why?" instead I just assumed he knew best being the medical expert. Of course my jaw isn't broken, I would know if it were i.e. pain in my jaw. He also neglected to mention at this point that he could not help me in any way, shape, or form. After the scan ($250) he simply said, "well your teeth can be saved I THINK, now you just need to find a dentist!" Are you serious? you charge me $375 knowing all along that you cannot do anything to fix my teeth. Anyone can see that my teeth are broken, and you do not fix teeth, sooo why did you do the scan? Here is the best part: when I asked him for at least a referral for a decent dentist he said that he didn't know of anything in arlington...great. Oh and the receptionist handling the charges didn't even check to see if either the consultation or the ct scan was covered before charging my card. I had to be re-debited for the consultation because I was covered after I asked her to check with my insurance. read more

I just had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday by Dr. Whiting and the whole process was seamless! All the staff, receptionists, nurses, and doctors were so nice and accommodating. I was nervous and they even let me watch Netflix before going under sedation! They also gave me a complimentary warm fuzzy blanket :) Dr. Whiting was very approachable and helped answer all my questions and doubts. Also one of the nurses, Julie, was so understanding and took care of every concern that I had! I was kept so comfortable the whole time, from the consult, to pre-op, to post-op. While the doctor maybe great, the office policies are horrendous and hurtful. I went in yesterday on a referral from my child's dentist. 1) The dentist nor Dr. Gocke happen to mention that our insurance was out of network 2) When we got to the office the staff kept coming in insisting on pushing for a CT scan for my 4 year old. Four different times they came in saying, okay we need to do this so do you want a payment plan or playing up front. It was going to cost $450 out of pocket. 3) Only after I insisted did they give us a CT referral so I can check with someone in-network. 4) ONLY at check out did they say our visit was out-of-network and we had to pay $250 for the 5 minute consultation/discussion with the doctor. I asked why did they not tell me up-front when they looked at my insurance that I was out of network, they said it was not their policy. This was extremely frustrating. A simple transparent conversation would save everyone time and money, but I am now out over $250 and we will now have to re-do this visit for my son to another doctor that is in-network. If I could give negative stars I would. read more

Wisdom teeth extraction is a very scary procedure. It's something that most people would put off until they HAVE to do it. I'm one of those individuals. My wisdom teeth were playing peek a boo with my gums and I wasn't having it so I decided to finally take care of it as my 2020 resolution. I was referred to Dr. Gocke's office by my sister in law and I'm so glad she told me about them. I called to book and appointment and was emailed paperwork to help speed up the process on the day of the appointment. Very user friendly and simple. Once you walk in, you are welcomed by warm greetings and happy smiles. This helps when your anxiety is through the roof. I was checked in by Holly and greeted by Ingrid. Both incredibly friendly and personal. Ingrid asked me about my medical history and any discomfort. She assured me that my comfort was their first priority and that they will do everything they can to make this as painless as possible. They definitely delivered. On the day of the extractions, Samantha helped ease my anxiety through friendly talk and netflix. Before you know it, I was KO and awake before I knew anything happened. Recovery was easy due to the helpful medicine chart they provided (to avoid confusion) and facial ice packs. I was almost back to normal a week later. Ale and Ingrid helped during post op and listened to all my paranoias and reassured I was recovering just fine. I highly recommend them to anyone who have high anxiety with dental offices and teeth extractions. They'll help calm your nerves and they LISTEN to your concerns. That's rare now a days. read more

Doctor Gocke & the nurses who were all involved with my wisdom teeth surgery were professional and friendly as they eased me into the procedure, I didn't have any issues coming out of it other than the normal side effects of removing all four wisdom teeth, and I followed their guidelines to taking care of myself post-dental. Once again; they were able to walk me through without any problems & informed me of no further details on after as I was good to go by next week, flushing out my areas to avoid particles from remaining within once they closed up, and I would recommended coming to this place be it military personal or average citizens. Update as of 9/24/15: I got a call from Dr Gocke's office yesterday. And I was told that $285 for the CT scan is being credited back to me. So I'm updating my review that they took care of the issue. Ok so they did a CT scan of my kid and charged $285 upfront, knowing fully well that insurance will cover it only if done at the regular radiology lab, they still went ahead despite our hesitation and did it in their own office. I asked them to still submit the charges so I could at least have a chance to retrieve that amount, I was told" yeah yeah that's routine, we always submit all the charges and the insurance can always accept or deny". Now here comes the ugly truth, I got my insurance statement yesterday and dr Gocke's office never submitted the CT scan charges. They smartly submitted only the consultation charges to my insurance. After years of broken, painful, rotting teeth and going from one dentist to another looking for one who actually cared about their patients, not just money, I finally found Dr. Delaney who was completely honest with me: the best course of action financially and health-wise would be dental implants. So she sent me to Dr. Gocke to discuss the procedure and I am so happy she did as I could not have asked for and cannot imagine a better oral surgeon! Right from the beginning, his staff was friendly, caring, and attentive. It's been exactly a week since I had both my lower wisdom teeth removed and I can say with confidence that my experience with Dr. Gocke and his capable staff was a 5 star experience. It's never fun getting work done on your teeth and this being my first time getting wisdom teeth pulled I did not know what to expect. The actual day of was quick and easy....it was lights out for me so I don't remember a thing about it other than I felt comfortable, and well taken care of. A week into getting 2 wisdom teeth pulled, I'm still not able to chew solid foods and there is soreness which i am told is normal but like other reviewers have noted, there is no bruising and I hear that can be a good sign as to whether the doc knows what he is doing or not. All i know is I would recommend Dr Gocke w out hesitation. And this is coming from someone who loathes going to the doctor for anything. read more

While Dr. Whiting was excellent, the billing department and servicing staff are not adequate. I had a biopsy performed, and had to pay the total cost up front but was informed they would submit a claim to both my dental and medical insurance provider. However, I followed up with my insurance company multiple times and never received a claim. I attempted to contact the billing team multiple times and emailed their office and no response. I finally got ahold of someone and they said they accidentally did not submit a claim, but they did "yesterday" which is two months since my service. Now, I am at risk of my medical insurance not covering because of the delay and am extremely unhappy with this practice. read more

I cannot judge Dr Gocke's work because I only had a consultation appointment with him. While most of the Dentist offices have free consultation, this office charges for the consultation. I would be fine with that, because he is a surgeon, but I would've loved to know it before my appointment. My consultation appointment lasted less than 10 minutes and the price that was offered to me was 4 times more than other places. read more

I got my wisdom tooth taken out here - I was a little nervous, but Dr. Gocke extracted it so fast that before I had time to be nervous it was over! Staff and experience were great, but the billing was a problem. I was given the price up front and paid it. I received a letter from my insurance company after the procedure stating that they needed more information. I called the office and they said they would handle it, no more payment was necessary. 8 months later I received a past due bill from the office. When I called, it took a very long time for them to get back to me. They said that the records looked like they had never submitted anything else to the insurance company and that I owed the additional amount, which was about 60% more than the original price. And now I am 8 months past the service date with a different insurance plan. read more

A close friend of mine, recommended Dr. Gocke, and I am glad she did! My daughter, age 16, was afraid to have her wisdom teeth removed at first. Dr. Gocke and his staff reassured her and answered all of her questions. Office Environment: Modern, clean, very nice! Consult: Dr. Gocke reviewed the x-rays with us and explained the surgery. He answered all of our questions and was very genuine. Next, his staff went over the fees, my portion, my insurances' portion and made everything super easy...I received my insurance statement within a few weeks and they were right on!! Surgery: She was given anesthesia, so she was comfortable and she tells me she didn't feel a thing! I was escorted to the recovery area where the staff and Dr. Gocke went over recovery instructions (what to eat, what to expect, etc). Next, I brought my car around and my daughter was escorted out to meet me....VIP treatment! Recovery: My daughter did not have any pain. She was a little sore, but recovered quickly. Dr. Gocke called that evening to see how my daughter was doing. Overall: Dr. Gocke and his staff are caring and efficient. I felt that they were well trained and that my daughters care and comfort was a priority. I couldn't be more pleased. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Gocke to anyone!! read more

His listened to me as a parent and trusted my opinion of my daughter's needs for surgery. Dr. Gocke's staff are amazing. After a weekend accident, they fit in my daughter's consulatation and surgery within a couple of days. They were understanding of special circumstances. The follow up care is beyond expectations. Dr. Gocke treated my 7 year old for abscess tooth. It was very painful, the laughing gas did not work then 15 minutes later they tried the anesthesia, still not numb. They would not allow the parent to stay in same room to comfort the child, got charged extra fee for therapy they called it, no patience for kids, pulled out the tooth with pain, with kid screaming. Not recommended for kids, just cares about money and time. read more

I would give this doctor no stars if I could. I am writing this review so that other parents think twice before they take their kids to this practice. My two year old daughter fell and cracked her tooth on a Sunday and we had to take her to the emergency. After they took a look at it, a nurse told us that she will call a doctor that can remove her tooth as the department does not deal with such type of injuries. When the doctor came, he neither consulted with me or my husband and went straight to preparing his tools. I had to read his name from his gown as he didn't even bother to introduce his name. He immediately told us that it had to be removed even though we asked him if we could let her wait till Monday seeing fully well that she was calm upon his arrival. When he began the process he gave her the first needle and began to remove the tooth seeing clearly that it didn't work. When we told him to give the anesthesia time, he gave her a second needle seeing that she was crying and screaming her lungs out. No dentist would treat an adult let alone a baby the way he treated her. Finally he sent us $285 for consultation in addition to the other $250 for the procedure. For which consultation he charged that much money is a mystery to us. All he cared about was the amount of money that he would take and not the treatment of the patient on his hands. If we had known the way she would be treated, we would wait till the next morning and took her to her dentist. read more

I live in DC, but would gladly make the trek out - any day of the week or at anytime - to be in the care of Dr. Gocke & his talented team. From the front desk receptionist to the billing staff...it's a completely seamless experience, and they literally are some of the nicest women I've ever come across in a doctor's office. And, as I've looked around: all of their tools and equipment really look state-of-the-art. My brother had to get all 4 extracted, and he is so scared of surgery, but he told me he couldn't have imagined that it would have gone any better. They have all the comforts of home in their exam rooms (blankets/TVs), and everything was done in an incredibly professional manner. I just moved up to the area and was having pain in one of my wisdom teeth. Not having a dentist up here to recommend an oral surgeon was tough, but after some research, I decided to go to Dr. Gocke's office for a consultation. He was extremely informative, answered all of my questions, and made me feel very comfortable. The office was very nice and neat and the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming as well. I decided to have all four of my wisdom teeth removed, and while I am terrified of these kinds of things, I could not have had a better experience.
