Nestled on the top of a hill overlooking the grape hedgerows, Star in the Valley's tasting room is the perfect place to kick back and enjoy a glass or 2. Ample seating for all group sizes, we came on a Saturday afternoon and had no problem grabbing a table. Service: 5/5. The staff operating the tasting room we're great! Very helpful in offering recommendations and giving us a brief background story of the vineyard. Wine: 5/5. I have always held mixed feelings for Virginia wine, however Star in the Valley's offerings were decent. We opted to do 2 wine flights which allowed us to try their entire wine portfolio. Highlights from the tasting we're the Cab Franc, Chardonel and the dry rose. All in all, fun wines and an even better atmosphere!

When we went to check out the older male cashier was aggressive, rude and curt. My sister had her out of state license which was voided in the event of her relocation and not her Virginia license. He refused the sale in a very militant style way. I went to purchase her goods for her and he threatened to call the police and had the phone in his hand. As this happened the friendly female staff member mouthed her apologies in embarrassment to us for her co-workers behavior. He said by my trying to purchase her goods I was breaking the law. Therefore, legally he should not have sold me anything in the presence of my sister without her valid identification. We did not appreciate his hypocrisy and he could use a lesson or two in customer service.

Their mead is a little lighter than others I've had though they all had rich layered flavor profiles and a nice finish. Issac, one of the owners, helped us and was awesome! He took the time to tell us about each of the meads, their process and a little about how they got started. I really enjoyed everything we tried and bought a few bottles to bring home. What we tried:(descriptions are directly from their tasting notes) *Hopped Strawberry Session This session style is semisweet Hopped with Amarillo and El Dorado hops. Dank hops aroma with a hint of fresh strawberries. Fresh berries and honey on the palate Best enjoyed chilled. *Blackberry Session Fresh blackberry aroma on the nose Clean refreshing blackberry on the palate with a slightly tart finish Best enjoyed chilled. ABV.7% *V(Five Year Anniversary) Black & Blue aged two months in a Portuguese port barrel that aged bourbon rom A Smith Bowman. A full-bodied semi-sweet melomel, with blueberries, black currants, and black pepper. Berries on the nose. Tart up front followed by sweet fruit, rounded out by a hint of black pepper and port. Best enjoyed at room temperature. *Midnight Sun A sweet blood orange melorel. Hopped with Citra and Cascade hops. Hops and citrus on the nose. Bright sweet citrus lead to a slight hoppy bitter finish. Best enjoyed chilled ABV: 12-13% *Helltown Lemonade A semi-sweet capsicumel with lemons and scorpion peppers. Citrus and peppers on the nose. Heavy citrus on the palate that is quickly overtaken by scorpion peppers. ABV: 11% My rating rationale for beer, wine, or spirits: +1 Service +1 Atmosphere/Vibe +1 Taste/Quality (Flavor, aroma, and overall quality of the beverage) +1 Presentation (Glassware, garnishes, and visual appeal of the drinks) +1 Selection/Variety (Range of beer, wine, or spirit options and uniqueness of offerings)
