We sat in the outdoor seating area due to having our dog, Gypsy, with us. The owner came out and greeted us as did his daughter. This family owned brewery not only offers great beer but fantastic service and hospitality! We ordered the Bavarian-Style Soft Pretzels with spicy mustard and beer cheese that was sooooo delicious that we ordered another. Our food and drinks came out quickly and the server checked on us regularly. We will definately be returning and HIGHLY reccommend this place!

There's a variety of beers and ciders available, including some sodas and lemonade. I tried a variety of fall offerings and they were all okay, nothing to write home about. There was a Belgian-style beer and a mango cider that were probably my favorites. The food was pretty decent. They have Beyond Burgers (to the delight of vegetarian Child #1) as well as regular beef burgers. My wife got a Smokehouse Burger which was really tasty. I got a cheesesteak which didn't blow me away, but was decent enough. We all split some pickle spears and pretzel appetizers. Again, not too bad. The Spicy Smokehouse dipping sauce that came with the pickles was delicious! There's plenty of seating in the main room with the live music, as well as seats upstairs. We opted to sit in the anteroom that connects with the coffee shop. It had several tables, as well as a little area for kids to play - they even provided some toys and books and it kept Child #2 entertained after he wolfed down his dinner. There are old movie posters from the Box Office's old days that add a little charm and nostalgia. Pro Tip - cash is king! They gave a small discount for paying in cash (i.e. didn't pass on the surcharge for paying by card). Maybe I'm just a Yankee not used to southern hospitality, but I was blown away by how friendly not only the staff were, but also the other diners. It was a nice touch to make us feel very welcome on a trip away from home. If I'm ever back in the Strasburg area, I would come back.

Tables are reserved for 2.5 hours, so I assume the party before us didn't use their full time. We ordered an appetizer and a bottle of wine. The brie cake was delicious--even for someone who doesn't usually like goat cheese (it was layered in)--but unfortunately, no one in our group enjoyed the cheesecake. The winery is both dog- and kid-friendly. All the parents we encountered kept their children supervised, which is a winery rule and one I really appreciate now that we have kids ourselves. Most of the dogs were also very well behaved, though one was repeatedly growling at passing dogs, which was off-putting. While the winery can't control every patron, we choose to leave our dog at home when she's not in a social mood, and it would be nice if all dog owners did the same.

TL;DR: PACKED when the weather is nice, expensive but great food and drinks, OK view…read more Ambiance (4/5): We arrived as a party of 4 on a Saturday and immediately walked into a live-action game of Musical Chairs: Patio Edition. Not a single table was available. Instead, there were rows of empty tables with RESERVED signs on them, apparently reserved for ghosts, because no one sat at them for 2+ hours. Meanwhile, groups of people, including us, circled the patio like vultures waiting for a table to finally open. The oyster pop-up bar had a line wrapping around the patio like people were waiting for Taylor Swift concert tickets instead of shellfish. There are small campfire setups around the outside area. But in 69°F full sun with a gentle breeze, you'd think no one would use them. Wrong. The whole side patio and hill area turned into a smoky campsite, with diners getting smoked out and leaving. On top of that, we had to fend off a rotating cast of unattended children. Kids wandered around like they were in an unsupervised theme park. One repeatedly tried sticking their hands in our dog's face while she was calmly chewing on a bone outside like a civilized creature. We ended up disciplining other people's children just so our dog could exist without being harassed. Food (4/5): We ordered the Nduja Sausage and Ricotta Pizza ($26), a red sangria pitcher ($40), a red sangria glass ($12), and the s'mores cookie tray ($10 for 3 cookies). The pizza was delicious, but the crust was so thin and flimsy it needed structural reinforcement. I used part of the previous slice to smear the ricotta around to get a balanced bite each time. The sangria was great, but $40 for 4 1/3 full glasses of wine felt disappointing. It's sangria, not liquid gold. The cookies were good, but for $10, 3 cookies should at least come with hot cocoa. Service (4/5): The lines were out the door. That is not the staff's fault. This place is popular, and the food is great. While I waited the 15 minute line to order, I reviewed the menu, dodged tiny children, and stepped away from random dogs on leashes inside the establishment trying to jump on me. It felt like a low-stakes obstacle course. When I got to the counter, I placed my order quickly. The bartender whipped the screen around with such precision and stared me down during the tip prompt like I was making a morally questionable decision. I pressed "No Tip" (listen. I stood in a line, picked up my own order, and bussed my own table) and his face shifted from "happy to help you" to "you have personally wronged me and my ancestors" in seconds. After tapping through 5+ different prompts, he told me to set a timer on my phone for 10 to 15 minutes and go to a different building to pick up my pizza. Finding this second building required me to use my nose like a bloodhound, following the faint scent of pizza through crowds until I finally tracked it down.

No not the caliber of players, no not the music genre... it's the volume! Three times we've been with friends and the volume inside is almost an assault on the ears (.. and my wife says I'm hard of hearing!). We love, love, love live music. Local artists? Incredible! But, for the volume of the music to become the focus of the day, you'd best be The Rolling Stones! We may have come out to hear someone play, but most importantly we've visited to share good times with our friends, catch up, and laugh. The music should bring ambiance, NOT be the focus - for us its kinship, beer and socializing, which we cannot do with the volume of the music so loud. We will continued to visit Old 690 but will stay away if they have entertainment indoors.

The rustic decor and the live music really sets the scene. They offer so many beers and even have frozen drinks. I also like how they have expanded the food options and added food truck food. We were a party of 2 and asked to sit outside. The hostess had a table quickly cleaned off for us and were sat within 2 minutes - it's beautiful outside - love the little sting lights, mountain/hills and got to see several trains pass through. Our server was fantastic - I didn't catch his name, but very attentive and friendly. When we ordered the Charcuterie Board, he said we wouldn't be disappointed and he was right. Not only was the presentation impressive - love the wooden boards- it was generous amounts! Two large cheeses (Fontina and Brie), two types of meats (prosciutto and a spicy salami type), candied walnuts, blueberries, mix of Kalamata and green olives, fig jam, and baguette. Great quality, great quantity, and so good! We ended up taking about a 1/3 of it home with us and enjoyed next day with sourdough from Bolivar Bread. The food at other tables looked just as delicious. I'd absolutely return next time I'm back in Harper's Ferry.

The table had an umbrella, so we were able to enjoy the outdoors without being in the sun. We ordered the Cobb Salad ($20) and Red Rice and Hemp Burger ($15) with a side salad instead of fries (additional $2 for the salad). The Cobb salad was very good. Large portion with big chunks of moist chicken. The salad was fresh and tasty. Italian dressing was good. The "Hemp" Burger was a new one on me, but essentially i understand it is a rice-based burger with Hemp seeds for protein. It comes in a large bun with caramelized onion and bbq sauce. I liked it. It has a mild flavor, the patty is pretty soft and the combination of flavors was very pleasant. The "side" salad was large and very fresh. I enjoyed the vinaigrette very much. Unfortunately, our server went AWOL after dropping off our food. We had a question and he wasn't around. My water glass was empty and no sight. My partner's water glass was empty for a while and - I kept looking around - but no sighting. I finally did something I hate to do, which is to call over another server, but we both were thirsty and needed something to drink. That server was very nice and promptly came over with a water pitcher for us. The bad service really wrecked what was otherwise a good meal in a nice atmosphere. So, here's the thing. I considered giving 3 stars for this review based on the service. (We actually thought the server had quit - it was ridiculous - the place wasn't crowded at all.). But, the other servers in the area were working really hard and one did come over quickly to help out, so I'm going to hope for the best. I do want to send a message in this review to the restaurant that this did leave a bad feeling. I doubt we'll be back. Too bad.
