Overall: 4 stars Michelin rated restaurant conveniently located near the city center and adjacent to the beautiful Almanac hotel. Their gastronomic experience for both vegetarians or beyond both sound divine, but unfortunately my stomach shrank so I could only opt for a subset. I love the comfortable seating and mostly the dishes I selected, though there seemed to be a lot more that sounded (Matcha Bread: B) - There is a subtle note of matcha to this bread that is pleasant and I wish it was more pronounced. That said, the maldon salt and Italian EVOO added so much flavor that this was a good bread dish in spite of the 6eu price point. (Eggplant Tempura: A+) - Highly technical dish excuted well to get a beautiful crisp on the exterior and soft firmness on the interior of the eggplant. The green curry paired phenomenally with the dish to give it a sophistocated palette of herbaceousness that captures the fresh complexity the garden has to offer. (Black Garlic Pork: C) - The rice was well flavored and just on the verge between cooked and al dente. The black garlic added an interesting earthy umami which I felt like is a lovely flavor profile but did not match the flavors of the rice nor the leaness of the pork cut, which led it to feel almost on the verge of dry and would've worked much better with a fattier pork belly. We made a reservation here for 2 even if we have our daughter with us. We wanted to experience some tasting menu and michelin guide/star restaurant in Barcelona to celebrate our 10th yr anniversary. I called the place to let them know that I reserved tasting menu for 2 because my daughter will not eat anything anyway but that we will bring her if that's ok. The staff members said its totally ok and they are very accommodating to give us a bigger table for the 3 of us. The ambiance is nice, quiet and elegant: the food was all delicious! I came here with a large group and ordered the Green Experience. It was around 15 interesting, mostly vegetarian, small bites. There were lots of variety in terms of flavors, textures, and colors. Included was one fish dish and one meat dish, which was good for us omnivores. Those in our group who opted for the wine pairing received very generous pours, almost like a full glass with each course. While the wine pairing was excessive, I found each plate of food to be pretty small in size (1 star off). Although I enjoyed the uniquess of each dish, I was not full at the end. The last course, which was a pumpkin crema catalana, was the largest in size...and my favorite. Service was attentive, but it did take a long time to receive each dish. We started around 8:45PM and did not finish until after midnight. It might have been that we were a large group and some of the group also had wine pairing? A note on the seating arrangements: The tables are set up with fixed sofa seating that only accomodate up to a table of four ideally. For larger tables, such as our table of eight, they seated two four-person tables next to each other with a gap in between. There is no way to push the tables together because the sofa seats are fixed to the wall. It would have been nice to be closer to our entire group. The food was okay but not worth the price. The vegan tasting menu was just vegetarian menu with dairy or eggs taken out of the plate, but for the same price. No imagination whatsoever. Stunning food and i love the plant-forward ethos behind this restaurant, what a unique dining experience! We started w the pickled radish which had a really unique seaweed like taste to it. Very refreshing and vinegary. The vegetable appetizers were all super unique and i would love to go back and try any of them -- we got the red bell pepper tartare which, on appearance, so closely resembled one made of ahi or steak that i was taken aback. The taste was perfectly nutty and subtly sweet. The artichokes with truffle sauce and black sesame bread were also a delight. U cld rlly taste the depth of thought that went into creating these flavor combinations. I had the mushroom risotto entree which was very salty, but still very enjoyable to me (i cld see how it might have been overbearing to someone w another palette tho). The mushrooms were rlly masterfully prepared, umami, chewy, meaty, delicious. Ended on a perfect note with the most delicious dessert i had in spain-- creme catalan made w pumpkin and chewy sweet dates w black tahini sauce and ice cream. After a few days of eating tapas, including A LOT of patatas bravas, we were craving light food that was vegetable-forward. My husband made reservations to Virens. It's located in a hotel, but fear not, the food is spectacular. We did the tasting menu that was very vegi forward, but did offer proteins. Each plate was beautiful and vibrant. The flavor matched the plating. You aren't going to leave stuffed, but you will leave satisfied, and your palette will be dancing. The service was outstanding. AND the hotel has a rooftop bar; our server was kind enough to call and reserve us a table upstairs, where we got to finish our night with stunning views of the city. We walked by this restaurant and were intrigued by the vegetarian menu and it certainly did not disappoint! Everything was delicious. Staff was friendly and even though it seemed like an off night (glass breaking, food delayed, dropping utensils) staff remaining friendly and acknowledged the off night. The restaurant should be busier than it is now. The staff was very professional and the food was delicious. I usually don't like to sit through multi course meal but each dish was prepared in such a unique way, it was a pleasure waiting for the next dish.
