The staff tend to be young and the salon itself has been established for over 16 years. You will not be waiting long to have your hair cut and the barbers will spend around ten minutes with each customer. That's what I have experienced. The only reason this is not my number one salon is simply because there are closer hair salons as to where I live. But the staff are brilliant and they are great bunch of people. You can have so much banter with them and they do love talking to their customers. Prices are reasonable which is another reason why you should come here. And there are newspapers and magazines for you to read whilst you are waiting for your turn. I have no doubts I will be back here.

I've had my hair coloured, (that's the gentleman's word for it), before and I've often found it a bit annoying when the colourist is bobbing between heads of hair, rushing from one side of the salon to the other, applying dye to someone's hair, then drying someone else's, then foiling another's, all at the same time At Julias Scissors, Jeni has the colourist all to herself. She's relaxed throughout and the treatment is at around half the price of elsewhere.

I feel relaxed whenever I go in, which is a great start. There's always a smiling face waiting to help behind the desk. The cuts are good value, and if you go on a Tuesday they are even better value as they have a special deal on. I have no time for fussy styles or complicated fashion cuts but that doesn't mean I don't want to look good because I'm vain enough to care about my appearance. I get a great cut from Helen. It always looks good and I don't feel pressure to ask for the latest style, colour etc if I don't want to. On the other hand I'm sure they can do all of this with ease should I change my mind. They also offer a great value service for kids. A haircut for a fiver and a choice of lolly at the end-what more could you ask for?

I was greeted by a friendly receptionist, and able to wait in the business lounge where I made good use of my time and realised how perfect this set up is for busy professionals. Lorraine has turned her room into a little haven of tranquillity, full of warm, bright and welcoming colours, candles and cushions. As soon as you walk in, you start to feel the relaxation vibe working its magic. If I worked in that building, I'd be there every day! What a way to de-stress. My Monday treat was a back massage, and the only suitable word to describe it really is "WOW". I've not had one for, well, so long that I can't actually remember when it was, and so I really needed it. Now, over the years, I've had massages so painful that I've spent my entire time in a tense state, begging for it to end and suppressing screams whilst chanting "wimp" in my head. I've also had massages that feel like someone is ticking you with a feather, and a rather limp one, at that, the sort that feels like a total waste of money. Personally, I prefer the middle ground, where I can feel it doing something without submitting me to immense pain. Thankfully, this was exactly what I got; a great, firm and highly professional massage, working on my tense areas and using an oil that was still tingling and working into my muscles deliciously an hour later. In short, it's a place that as soon as you walk in instantly inspires confidence. You know you're going to walk out of here looking and feeling great! The ambience in the hairdressing section is funky, the mood and music young and upbeat. On my first visit I'd booked in for two appointments with the first being a wash, blow dry and style with head stylist Liann. This girl is at the top of her trade and I would recommend entrusting your hair in her hands to anyone! After all, she manages to tease my lank, lifeless locks into beautiful, bouncy curls with a gorgeous golden sheen. And that's no mean feat believe me! You'll never go thirsty or bored here. Refreshments are on tap throughout the whole process as is the friendly and personal service. Having your hair done here feels more like having a cuppa and a chat with friends! The second appointment I'd booked in for was a Swedish massage with head beauty therapist Laura McKay. The treatment area which adjoins the hair salon area has a blissfully tranquil and calming vibe. A perfect refuge for the tense, stressed out, shattered or heavily hungover amongst us and let's face it that's most of us, most of the time! I can quite unequivocally say I was thrilled with the results! Laura clearly knows her stuff and is keen to share her expertise as she asked me many questions on skincare, lifestyle, diet, moods and sleep patterns. She was immediately able to highlight one of my major problems digestion (I suffer from bloatedness and slight indigestion). The treatment began with an all-over body brush to exfoliate and boost circulation. This was followed by a heavenly massage a mixture of lymph drainage and conventional Swedish using essential sweet-smelling oils and wonderful hands-on manipulation. The treatment focused on increasing oxygen flow in the blood whilst relasing toxins from the muscles and was a pure pampering as well as therapeutic experience! I would wholeheartedly recommend it! My brilliant therapist was able to pummel away all the tension and discomfort in my tight muscles leaving me, as well as my skin, feeling wonderfully rejuvenated. More to the point, the cramps, bloatedness and general feeling of discomfort in my stomach more or less disappeared. AND the dreaded dimply area around the top of my thighs looked less conspicuous! Definitely worth returning for that alone! At the end, I was left to relax and reflect for ten minutes in a lovely warm towel with a revitalising cup of peppermint tea and an overwhelming feeling of calm. Would I go back? In a heartbeat. At just £35, for a full hour of relaxation and reinvigoration, and just £25 to have hair like a (blonde) Cheryl Cole, I certainly didn't break the bank and felt the benefits for a long time afterwards.

Yet I cannot emphasise enough how talented these beauticians are at removing hair so effectively, quickly and painlessly. Obviously waxing hurts (depending on your pain threshold) but these guys have been the least painful to the MANY salons I've tried out. Nikky was my favourite therapist but she has sadly moved on. However, the rest of the team is just as fantastic. The prices are steeper than other places I've been to but it's worth every penny when you know you're getting superb service. They're very hygienic in their waxing implementation, always run on time and have a great loyalty scheme.
