I would like to share with you my experience at SuperCuts Bullring Birmingham today…read more As a regular customer, I went in and waited for my turn, and the hair stylist who attended me, the only male in the whole salon, asked to have a sit and take my hair down. I did it and his first reaction was: wow, I thought you had much more hair and thicker.... ok.... Feeling a bit insulted, we moved on to discuss what I wanted. Just trimming ends and fringe. Simple. I mentioned that I wanted shampoo as well. And he kept touching my hair with disgust and commenting how dry and dead my ends were. (Maybe the reason why I was there??...) Anyway, he told me the price and then he said that we can do a blow dry as well. I said no and he insisted. 3 times. I understand he was just trying to sell his product but I didn't want to and as a customer he needs to respect my wishes and my needs. He washed my hair, in a really rough manner, even hurt my ears, and moved on to cut it. All of this saying out loud how fine my hair was, and making me feel incredibly embarrassed. Eventually he even said: "As soon as I finish with this lady I'm going to pop to the loo because my bladder is about to explode.... I'm so glad she barely has any hair!!!" Once he was done cutting, he gave me a bit of air with the dryer and asked if I wanted my fringe straightened. I said ok, even though at that point I was so mortified that I just wanted to leave that place. He straightened in a way that I looked like I was wearing a cap hat... !!! I paid, left and run to the nearest restroom to make my hair wet and get rid of that monstruosity.... I am beyond hurt and disappointed and with this experience, Supercut has lost a customer. Whenever I go to the hairdressers I expect to leave feeling ok with myself, not like a monster, mortified and with zero self steem, trying to hide in a restroom to fix my hair. Why was he so insisting in the quality and quantity of my hair? I was there because I trusted him to fix it, not to make me feel like a monster about it, specially when I am already insecure about it. So as I stated above, Supercuts has lost a customer, because of this condescending and insulting hair stylist. It's a real shame, because I have always felt fabulous after leaving your salons, but this experience has ruined my opinion of you. Hope this review helps anyone.

This is how I felt at Supercuts. They tend to be very busy so although walk-ins are welcome, you're better off booking an appointment to avoid disappointment. The stylists are bubbly and welcoming. Although their own hair styles are somewhat off-putting because they can be quite outrageous. But each to their own! Although the stylist made general conversation, I couldn't help but feel like a conveyor-belt customer. By that, I mean their diary seemed so crammed that they were on a mission to be done with clients for the next to take your seat. Despite that, my hair looked fabulous! And I was able to purchase some of the products that had been used to style it from the vast range they have available. Overall a decent salon!

I popped in to see if they had any ginger wigs, they never do; you'd think people would want to look like Joan Holloway, but no... Anyway, I had a browse around and came across some gorgeous coloured hair dyes by Adore for £2.99. They are similar to Crazy Color (£2.49) but the colours are much more vivid. I'll definitely be popping in there soon to get some of those. As well as hair dyes they sell all the usual stuff, extensions, make-up, oils, moisturisers, hair accessories. Seriously - all these shops are merging into one! The products and prices seem to be the same in each store.

Now, Birmingham has an array of shops which cater for Black women's hair & beauty so it's always good to shop around. This store on Dale End is right in the centre of town. It's not as big, as some of the other hair shops like Beauty Queen etc, which means they don't have as much choice as some of the other larger stores. What they do have though is a pretty decent selection of hair treatment products for saying it's a smaller store. I tend to visit City Hair & Beauty to purchase hair products like; carrot care hair lotion, relaxer and colour kits and oil treatment kits which are great for treating damaged or over-relaxed hair. I find the staff a lot more friendly and less in your face than other shops similar to them. They tend to just ask if you need help and if you say you're OK, they'll let you get on with it. The good thing is they accept all major credit or debit cards and they provide you with a proper receipt; it sounds silly but some hair shops don't provide you with an actual receipt, so it becomes difficult to take anything back

It was quite busy today, being a Saturday, but they had at least 7 barbers on the floor working professionally and to high standard with each customer. An amazing thing about Turkish Golden Scissors is that even when busy they won't rush the individual they are looking after. When it is your turn, and you see there is a queue, the barber never lets you feel that he has to rush; but your his/her priority for however long he/she is with you. I was asked if I wanted a drink, and I had my favourite Turkish tea which is a great drink to have while you wait. Had a pleasant chat with the barber too who asked questions about me and they were genuine. All I'd say is that there is no uniform way of cutting or styling your hair, so you don't know who you will see, how he will treat you and what will you look like at the end. But, I've not had a bad experience yet, and by the looks of everyone, I don't think I will. However, some have done a better job than others. Overall, will keep coming back for the spar-like treatment.

Offering wash, cut and style from just £10 their services are very reasonably priced. Seeing that they offer a traditional shave and that I'm off camping tomorrow, I go in for this service as I want a close shave so I'm not looking too feral by Monday morning. My face is prepared by the way of a very hot towel; the stylist tells me that this opens up the pores and expands the skin on the face and will allow him to get as close a shave as possible. Then he rubs a light lather into my face. Then the moment of trust is upon me! But, of course I have nothing to fear, and 10 minutes later, I'm out of the door with a face as smooth as a baby's doo-dah. At £10 it may seem steep but it's nice as treat for special occasions.

As a new customer to any salon, I normally expect a consultation about my hair and what I'm looking for and it didn't happen. The stylist just asked me what I wanted and did it, well some of it (I asked for my layers to be cut back in and she didn't do it). I also found the stylist to be quite rude and abrupt, spending the whole appointment talking about getting drunk with her friends. I'm a quiet person and I find hairdressers that try and force conversation makes me uncomfortable. The cut was good, not quite what I asked for, but good. Salon itself is clean, tidy and modern. Staff mostly seemed friendly and tea/coffee is provided. They also do discounts for a new customers. I didn't really enjoy my experience here but the quality of the cut was good. Just not the salon for me.

The stylist was friendly, professional and methodical whilst cutting and styling my hair. I am so happy with the finished result! One of the best haircuts I have ever had.
