My usual braider cancelled on me last minute but luckily I stumbled upon VIP Braids. I am very happy with the service they provided. I got small waist length knotless braid and they came out amazing. Not only did they do a great job, but they were very fast as well. I arrived at 4 p.m. and was out by 8 p.m. Most of the African braiding salons I've been to braid too tight but not here. I didn't even need to take a Tylenol after. I definitely will be returning to VIP Braids for all my braiding needs. read more

I think the shop means well. It's a typical African hair braiding shop, but their system is terrible. It takes days to get a solid price/quote because you have to send pictures and the owner constantly forgets and doesn't respond with a quote. There's no real appt system even if you "schedule" one. You have to just show up and hope someone is available. They do have a lot of braiders which is a bonus but I don't like that they don't know who's coming and what you're getting. Quick, courteous, and they do excellent work. The braids always come out great and they get you in and out in a matter of a few hours.

Time to find a new braider. My fault for not looking at the back of my hair before I left. Braids are larger than what I requested but even more frustrating is the parting. This should have been an easy style for a braider as I wanted bigger parts/squares with skinny braids. Braiding Class 101-Part the hair straight and even. Unbelievable, and I left a $10 tip. I have been here multiple times as it is somewhat close to where I live and they do have a lot of available braiders. I have tried a lot of styles here from crochet, cornrows, singles, and knotless but I am never completely satisfied. Horrible! They give you a price and when you arrive it's more! The work is sloppy, overpriced, uneven and just a damn mess!! I should have walked out after they washed my hair and used shampoo without wetting 1st. That's what I get for cheating on my regular shop Sasha's on Glenwood. I was so ready to go because I was beyond pissed that I really didn't look at it until Il reached home. I am so dang upset right now. I have been here at least 2 times before and extremely disappointed today. I reached out to owner at 10ish this morning requested to get my hair braided same day. Which is fine because, they are a Walk-In braid salon however, after spending several texts communicating w/the owner; leaving work early to try to get from the airport to Duluth in 59mins. I arrived a few minutes before 5pm and this is how my afternoon went... 1. I asked for Ruby & the staff advised me she wasn't there 2. I informed them we communicated & did she talk to anyone about time & the style I wanted? They said, NO. 3. They asked me what did I want & I. Honestly whipped out my phone to show NOT 1, not 2, not 3 but, 4 different Braiders the style I texted the owner. 4. Get irritated I sat down to see who was going to braid me. Then 1 lady called the owner & then told me to show the 4th lady the pic again while she called the owner from her phone. 5. As I sit to see who or if they're going to braided me...then I'm told they can't do that style I wanted because, the lady would be there until mid nite. (Mine you when I spoke w/the owner she said it would take time like 3-4hrs.) So I questioned the lady asking her why would it take that long when the owner told me it would take the same amount of time as the crocheted braids she said she could do for 3hrs.) 6. I was even willing to change styles to get a 2nd style but, I had to go buy different hair. 7. Mind you while I was waiting the Braider was on the phone discussing all kind of other things like her new baby she had (I could understand that!) 8. Irritated af I grabbed belongings and left. Then the 2nd lady that called the owner & got off the phone, asked was I going to go buy hair & come back? I answered no, probably not! 9. Then someone came outside to ask me if they could do anything by this time I'm pissed because as I told them! My conversation started at 10ish in the morning so, I should not of had to drive a darn hour for this type of unprofessional service! 10. To top it off, now because it was after 5pm I ran into even longer traffic to get back gone. Traffic gone was an hour & 18mins. I give up on this place because, something so simple as communication is not of importance to this business. Furthermore, I guess make money is not either. My appointment was for Thursday at 4p for box braids. I arrived at 358 and they took me at 402. So they are pretty on time. The lady that braided my hair first asked did I want to see the hair colors I said yes and she took me to the back to choose hair colors. Now let me start off by saying. As far as hair braiding they did an excellent job. I looked around at the other customers and the hairstyles looked really nice. Both braiders were nice. My first braider was a little faster than the second one. When I called about my appointment I was told that it would take 4 1/2 hours to do my hair. Someone was watching my kid for me. I told them I would be back in 5 1/2 hours but it took them 6 1/2 to complete my hair with one people braiding my hair for 5 1/2 of those hours. So needless to say the braiders tip went to the person that had to watch my kids the extra hour. What I didn't like. All the braiders had mask around their neck BUT THEY WERE NOT wearing them. All the customers had a mask on. When the lady was speaking with me she had to get in my face so we could hear each other over the loud noise in the shop. To be honest I was paranoid about that. We in a pandemic and they should be trying to do everything possible to keep their customers safe. The shop is noisy. The ladies that work their speak very loud. Whenever they dropped something they just picked it up and used in right in my hair. Didn't like that. Most stylist I have had in the past would it least wipe it off or exchange for another comb or what ever. Not to mention I was told the Yelp check in coupon for $25.00 dollars off. Was not there's. Then they said it was old. It was expired. But no expiration date on it. So they didn't honor something that had on their Yelp page. Overall when you add all this stuff. They are an average shop. I have frequented this braids shop many times and always request a particular braider, and when I get there, she's not there. I have allowed this and let the braider that is available to do my hair because I take off work to be there. I will never go back to this shop again. I got my hair box braided on Monday, and on Sunday of the same week, my braids were falling off in the back because they weren't attached securely. If they take the time to listen and accommodate their customers, the business would be successful. I've been going to vip braids for 3years for me and my kids but I went to Vip braids 10/20/23 and did not leave disappointed! I was looking for certain look and couldn't seem to explain exactly what I wanted but Faith and Fatima told me to sit back and trust them and that I would love it. They were both very positive and friendly both have a great sense of humor and had me laughing the who time. They along with all the other women in the shop were very welcoming and helpful. Explained that I wanted my hair rolled at the ends of the braids for curls. She stated they had small rollers (never saw them) and no other sizes. Stated the owner was supposed to get other sizes and has not done it? I was in the chair 6 hours (seems like plenty of time to grab rollers and bring them since I requested that). One person started the front of my hair. Braided to close to the ends if rollers ever did show up. Kept asking others to start on the back........nobody answered the call! A yelling match between the ladies (in their language happened). She finished the front, taped my shoulder and said someone would finish the back. I got Senegalese twists. If they are limited on the braiders who can do this style, why advertise it and why have pictures of it in your shop? Took 6 hours because 2 different people worked alone on my head. That day it was $175 today they were $210 and nothing like last time. Much smaller. I was told I asked for knotless, not boxbraids? Huh, I asked for knotless Box braids and provided a picture. First time trying out VIP Braids. I wanted Feed In Cornrows, I showed them a picture of the style o wanted and she came through! They turned out really nice and I love my braids! Everyone was nice and professional. I think my only "complaint" will be that they need to start using their own pictures of their work on social media. If you go on their website, IG..etc, you can tell those pictures aren't their actual work. That's the only reason why they're getting 4 stars from me. Other than that, I'll recommend! read more

I love VIP Braids! Hands down best experience I've had in a braid shop. Staff is friendly, professional and fast and the salon is very clean! I got long knotless braids and I have thin hair. They made sure to make them look full and I really appreciate that I experienced no pain or soreness at all! I was able to pull them up immediately after they were complete. Also, it only took 4 hrs! I will definitely be back and I highly recommend this shop for any braid style you desire (except sisterlocks-they don't do them.) OMG! Two words...Don't Go! Arrived at the shop for my appointment, and was waiting for about 20 minutes because the girl assigned to do my hair was not there. While I was waiting, one of the other ladies discovered they didn't have the hair, (although the price of $200 I was quoted was to include hair) So they managed to find a couple packs of hair in the back, that were two different brands and hair types. I wasn't willing to accept that because I wanted my hairstyle to have a cohesive look and I was investing too much to accept the randomness I was being offered. I was also concerned it wouldn't be enough hair for the style I was getting. I was told I could go buy my own hair and where to go, so I spent another 20 minutes going to the beauty supply to buy the hair, that I spent $40 on. By the time I got back the girl that I made my original appointment with was just arriving and getting settled. I was a bit flustered by this point but was maintaining my cool, because I needed to get my hair done before leaving for vacation. The environment was so unprofessional, from the conversation among the braiders to the treatment of the customers. There was another lady who came in with her daughter who waited for at least 30 minutes for someone to show up. That stylist ended up having an outright vocal argument with the customer and the mother demanded she undo the process she started on her daughter and the stylist left. It was the most uncomfortable and unprofessional I'd ever seen. The icing on the cake for me was after the 6 hours I spent dealing with that, my hair was nothing like the original photo I showed to both stylists who were working on me and the owner I originally showed the picture to. And although I was quoted a price that was to include hair, but had to by my own hair because they didn't have a sufficient supply, they only took off $10 which was way less than I paid for the hair I bought. It ended up costing me $240, and a ton of inconvenience and lost time, and complete dissatisfaction with the service. A business that cares about customers over money would have and should have offered a deeper discount, some level of concession or an apology for being late, for not having the hair they said they would have, that I had to go buy, and not giving me the look I showed them all from the beginning. I was so frazzled by the time I left there I had to walk around outside and call my own daughter to calm me down before I got in the car to drive home. It was an unbelievable and unfortunate experience. I don't know if it's a cultural difference or what, but for me it was unacceptable and I told them I would never be back. They advised me to reach out to the owner who was not in. I did send her an account of what happen immediately before I left the establishment once I got in the car, but I never heard back from her. read more

I'm the type of customer/client that likes to stick to the same places and form a relationship with my local community stores, businesses, etc. The previous braid shop my family and I used to go to relocated to a further location so because I like convenience and don't like to drive far I had to find a new shop close to home that we like. The staff, salon, and environment was welcoming and friendly from the phone conversation to the in-person interaction the entire time myself and my children received services. I love how comfortable and plentiful the seating is there and they are family-friendly and kid-friendly which is a must for me! The con that I have is that they are on the pricey end, but they stated because of the length of our hair that's why it was high so I take that into consideration and understand to a certain degree along with hair included, but considering the fact that I and four of my children got our hair braided over the weekend and knowing the prices I've paid in the past irregardless to length, I am a little dissatisfied about the pricing. If we return at a later date, I will hope that they will give a considerably cheaper rate because that's at least 5 clients with myself and children alone racking up to almost $1000 if we all come again vs half that if I go to previous people. The convenience and last minute walk-in appointments does kind of make it well worth with our overall experience and their patience with my children and excellent quality of the hair styles, so more than likely we will return as long as I see a price difference considering I'm able to provide more business with the 5 of us plus more clients through my own personal referral. read more

Where do I start? Today I took my 13 year old to get her hair braided at a shop that she found on IG. I was a little skeptical because I'm funny about who touches my kids hair. After meeting the owner today and speaking with her I was thinking okay my daughter is in good hands. The owner Ms. Roubi answered all my questions and eased my mind. The customer service was very on point and she was so nice. My daughter had 2 braiders on her head Ms. Lovett started it and Ms. Vanessa finished it. They both were very good and they made sure my daughter was comfortable. I sat and observed all the braiders at the shop and I must say all the ladies was doing a great job with each customer they had. Braids look neat and they are all fast braiders. I really enjoy coming to this braid shop! I have gotten it done 4-5 times here and each time I love the finished style. I have had knotless braids, cornrows, double french braids, and many other styles and they always come out great! I get loads of compliments, they last, they're neat, and never too tight on my edges. Not good for crotchet braids. My crotchet was jacked up to say the least. Knots were tangled and messed up. The person doing my hair Roubis didn't have a clue how to use a net weaving cap and didn't know how to separate the hair. Made my appointment online and wrote I had short thin alopecia hair and provided my weave net cap. No one read my message but they confirmed my appointment. When I walked in no one greeted me and the manager says "oh you have short hair". Dah! I already communicated that online. She tried to charge me $95 and I told her their website says $85 so I paid $85 for a bad crotchet. Will not return. read more

Ok, so I tried out this braid shop today because of the reviews and pics on IG. I made an appt. which took a couple days because the communication via text is not good, but after 48 hrs., the owner finally called me. I asked her to send me a text to confirm, which she never did, but I called the night before to confirm anyway. Now to the experience, I will say the shop is nice and comfortable. I went in for a take down, wash and mid-back box braids. The take-down was fast. The wash was sub-par. I had to ask the lady to wash it again as the back of my head was still dry. Now only 2 stars because the braiding was quick, but very painful. There were 2 ladies on my head, sometime 3. They braided my hair entirely too tight. My scalp is super tight. They left no hair out at all. My hair isn't even parted in box braids. My scalp is pulled so tight, it looks bald. I had to come home and immediately take ibuprofen. I can't even lift the hair to put it up in a ponytail. It hurts too bad. I'm not sure how long I'll be keeping these in. read more

Never go here! Complete disrespect for people's time! I communicated with the owner to make an appointment for Sunday at 10am. When I arrived at 10am, there were 6+ people in the waiting room also waiting for 10am appointments... and guess what - no braiders to service them. We inquired several times where the braiders were, and they said to just wait and the braiders will eventually show up when they want to. When they want!?! Over an hour and half later, no additional braiders arrive and people start leaving the waiting room in frustration. The woman sitting next to me in the waiting room said she had been there before, and that's how they treat people. It's just absolutely ridiculous. Why would you schedule 10 people at 10am when you only have 4 braiders? Do you really expect people to wait 5+ hours for their turn? Absurd! Take your money elsewhere. They are quick braiders and the braids look good. But they braid tight! I won't go back for that reason. I haven't had tight braids in a while I thought that was no longer a thing. Anyway if you go make sure to communicate don't braid tight. read more

I had my box braids done here and they turned out amazing! I am new to the ATL and was having a tough time trying to find a braider that was reasonably priced and had quality work. I stumbled across VIP braids on instagram. After conducting some research about the salon, I decided to schedule an appointment. I called on a Wednesday and they were able to schedule me for that Saturday. I arrived at the salon with my hair washed and blow dried to help speed up the process. I was immediately seated. My stylist was Mayama. She was very sweet and professional. Throughout my appointment she continiuously checked on me asking if I was okay, if she was braiding too tight, needed water/snack etc. There was another lady who helped her braid my hair as well but I don't recall her name. I was in the salon for a total of 4hrs. The salon was clean and they continuosly swept hair off of the floor. It's been almost a month since I got my hair done and it still looks great! I will definetly be back to get the front of my hair re-done in a few weeks. read more

These people are so unprofessional! I knew better than to go back there but I needed last minute appointments for my daughter and I. We brought the hair for my daughter's braids (pony hair) and the braided completely ruined the hair(completely tangled mess) put it in the trash and moved to someone else, stating she didn't know how to braid with that hair. We waited for over 2 hrs eventhough we were told someone would arrive to start in 10 minutes. We waisted almost 4 hrs waiting on services that were never rendered. I attempted to contact Roubi numerous times to discuss the random change in price and the unprofessionalism. She did not answer or respond. After listening to the braiders shout in another language about the matter, I was informed that the braided could not do my daughter's hair. We left with 1/3 of my hair braided. Never again! Don't go here... originally Carol did box braids to my hair. On the website it says that the box braids are 160 and when she got done doing my hair she charge me 175. She claimed that the price changed even though the website said something different. I got a few highlighted braids in my hair that I'm not fond of so the next day I tried to go back and ask her if she could switch it to black. It's literally 6 braids. I've called 6 times and each time someone says to come to the shop. When I do everyone refuses service. EVEN CAROL. I paid $175 and they won't fix 4 box braids. Not to mention a PRICE GOUGE. Tried out this salon for the first time last week. They are quick and efficient and have competitive pricing. I did not have to wait longer than 10-15 minutes. Their work is great but I do agree with the other review in saying the pictures they post are not always their work. I do not think this is a bad salon at all. The staff is friendly and accommodating, however I would recommend being very very specific in what you want done. My hair did not turn out like the picture I showed them so that was a bit disappointing but it's still a fantastic braiding job. The owner Ruby is absolutely amazing!
