I don't know about other barbers but the short one with braided hair doesn't know what he's doing at all. Very inexperienced and did a terrible job, you can tell he knows that he fucked up in the end as well. Used to love this place. Was coming here for almost 3 yrs now. Past two times I've left unhappy, both times just by poor luck I had the same barber usually works in the second or third chair in from the window. First off he takes 4 or 5 phones calls both of the last two times I've been there. Both of the past two times people have sat down after me with another barber and got up before I'm finished. Doesn't listen at all. Two cuts ago he changed my haircut, going against what I had asked him to do. I had to go back and have it corrected later. This time my fade wasn't the length I asked for or as high as I asked for it. He cut the back of my neck with a straight razor because he was talking to the guy next to him. To add onto the great experience the guy couldn't give me change for 2 twenty dollar bills and tried to give me a $5 winning lotto ticket as my change. I'll never be back. read more

I asked one clown with branded hair acting like he's Jamaican if he can cut my hair and he looked at me like I had two heads. then he told me that there was one person before me so I waited for him to cut that guys hair. And then one of his boys walks in and then he tells me this guys got an appointment and took him before me. These guys are good -- very good. They have the skills and are exceptionally meticulous and maybe even kind of artistic. Impressive. Left with a cut that was clean, sharp, and perfectly symmetrical. And the barber listened. In addition, it's a nice environment. Friendly, a little laughter going on, and some nice styling going on to admire. These guys know how to cut hair. This is a small shop, with about 6 or 7 chairs, and on Friday and Saturday the place is crowded with loyal customers, who often come back weekly to get fresh for the weekend. Wow, just wow. I swung by VIP while dropping my car off at Herb Chambers, and was not prepared for this level of excellence. Jack was friendly, and totally simpatico. I've never had someone pay so much attention to my hair (while talking to friends, getting coffee, listening to music). They're old school and new in that he used three kinds of clippers and a safety razor to get the edges just right. Nice guys cutting excellent hair. Strongest recommendation. I have been going to this place for about four years now and have never gone anywhere else since. These men are some of the most talented barbers out there and they take pride in their work. My hair cuts are always fresh and representative of what I want. They are very good about doing exactly what you request and even give tips and advice when you ask for it. I even went there during a phase of very long hair and they new exactly how to deal with it. My advice is go there early, after 5pm the wait can get very long but if you make an appointment they are very good about getting to you as fast as possible. While all the barbers are hispanic they give great haircuts to everyone, spanish, white, black, asian, it doesn't matter. As long as I am in Boston I will keep coming here. read more

Went to this place a couple years ago and had a horrible experience but a friend told me a few month back that they got all new barbers so i decided to give it a shot again. Went in and honestly i was super pleased. Great line up and cut this time and have been going back. No hesitation 5 star handed out here. VIP is a small place next to a Subway on Harvard Ave, about a 2 minute walk from the B line stop there. My roommate insisted I come with him one time to get a cut, and I was tired of SuperCuts consistently doing a poor job, so I decided to go wit him. There's about 5 or 6 work chairs, and 10 or 12 seats to wait in so plenty of room. Most of the guys there only speak Spanish, but they are very cordial and friendly so do not be intimidated! I just tell my guy "3 on the side, scissor on top" and he gets it perfect every time. A standard cut is $15 (cheap in itself), and includes a line up too. Just getting a line up costs like $7, so this place is really awesome. I am never satisfied with hair cuts, but I have never had an issue here. I always give the guy a $20 for doing a great job. Beware though- they only accept cash. The last time I went I forgot to grab some. The guy told me to go to the ATM about a block away. I offered him my driver's license as collateral, but he didn't even take it, he just trusted me. Obviously I came back and gladly paid him, but that shows what kind of people these guys are. The barbers here are quality. The problem is that it takes multiple hours to get in the chair. This isn't the cuts take that long to do. That is because while giving cuts the barbers play around and goof off. A fair amount of goofing off is appropriate because they have to stay in the same place for a long period of time but the amount that they do it here is excessive. I would recommend traveling a little farther for a better and faster experience then the one provided at this establishment. read more

These guys are amazing. Don't let anyone tell you different. They focus on doing specialty cuts so if you want something less go to supercuts. The old guy is alright but try to go with a younger guy unless you're fluent in Spanish. It's an affordable cut for a great look and I'm a regular customer. My gf wouldn't even let me switch if I wanted to because these guys are the only ones she trusts. They're quick clean and listen well. Never had a bad experience with them. They also do really great straight razor shaves. Last time I went they spent extra time on a cowlick I always have problems with and no other barber notices and they did me up right even blow-dried/straightened my hair for me. I moved here a year ago and bounced around places and never felt comfortable with the place or satisfied with my haircut. After a few places I went to check out VIP and I had my haircut done by Sebastian. Sebastian said he was fairly new and that if I wasn't comfortable with that I could wait for another barber, but I decided to give him a shot because he was upfront and honest. Sebastian has been cutting my hair ever since and I have always been pleased. He pays attention to all the fine details, over time he has began working quicker without sacrificing on quality. While I am in Nashua I will never get my haircut from another location, I always feel at home and even though not all the employees know my name they recognize my face and ask me how I have been doing. I have gotten haircuts in Hawaii, California, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Guam and VIP has been one of the greatest places, if not the greatest I have been to...thank you guys and girls for providing quality and friendly service. read more

I went in to get my undercut trimmed, wanted a simple design with just a single line going across. I didn't get even close to what I asked for. The barber was careful with what he was doing, it seemed, and he went back several times to make sure it looked right to him, but it wasn't right to me at all. Instead of making one line, drawn down from my hairline to my neck, he made three, connecting in the center of my neck. Giving three stars because they were gracious enough to take me, even though they seemed unsure of doing female cuts, and also because of the care taken, even though it wasn't what I asked for.
