Imagine Lala's feels like a chill, comfy neighborhood bar where you can actually enjoy yourself, and the ambiance, and have a conversation with whoever you came with, instead of a tourist clogged beehive? Because BOOM that's Lala's South Pole. I'm not even a big Christmas person, and I am smitten. Charming, quite, festive. It feels like a hidden gem. I probably shouldn't be reviewing it so it can stay that way, but no one like a gatekeeper. Also, absolute baller pizza from Brooklyn Pie Co. I had to really talk myself down from going back the next night just for more pizza. The service is... well what you would expect from a "trendy" Austin dive bar, as in... None, but that's part of the charm kind of? I've actually tried a lot of new pizza places lately and this is what stands out in my mind. Drinks wise? It's a bar. They serve you alcohol. I enjoyed the mezcal samplers on the porch after which I went to the bar and bought a Mezcal negroni which was yummy! Loved being able to walk around and see the different bands. I wasn't quite sure what the panel topic was in the backyard so I just stayed for a few minutes before wandering back to the front until the bands started. I was only able to drop by for a couple hours yesterday but was glad I did! They were giving away free vinyls so I grabbed a few for my friends because I don't have a player. They even had a little tattoo station set up for those who felt like getting a last minute tattoo. It was a chill vibe and good music. Great place to have indoor/outdoor events and gatherings. One of my favorites was the "when I dip, you dip, we dip" - the ingredients of the dip were just delicious and paired perfectly together! It was polished off pretty quickly by our table. I was also a fan of the crispy brussels sprouts which were just the right level of crispy! For drinks, I tried the BBC which was a highlight of the night. The black color of the drink came from the activated charcoal and made for a very visually ...interesting look. I adored the coconut texture on the side of the glass and appreciated how nicely it was presented. I tried the grasshopper later in the night which felt like more of a miss - the mint flavor was overpowering, though the vanilla ice cream was a nice touch. For entrees, we decided to split a nightcap burger which was juicy and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed the fries as well. It made for a nice succulent dish to round out the night. All the staff were so friendly and it was a lot of fun catching up with the group in a nice, cozy restaurant in Austin. If I'm back in the city I would love to stop by again for their happy hour!
