There are several spots in the lot. The spaces closest to the door are not disabled. It is a private lot. It's raining so there are several puddles. There are two doors to open and angled apart so not very accessible for walker or wheelchair or convenient is carrying a pet carrier or bringing a pet in. Friendly staff but the waiting area has dog hair all over the seats. Pets are all in one lounge so you've got barking dogs trying to instigate with other animals and scaring others. It might be practical have everyone on a harness or in a carrier to prevent the hair everywhere and potential fights. The cats have another room in the back I didn't notice the sign the first time. They do charge an extra fee for same day appointments so I recommend booking ahead or calling and speaking to someone if you must be seen urgently. The vet was very nice and transparent. They did have to take the cat to another room where I could not accompany. I had to sit on hair covered bench while waiting. After all that was said and done. I had no idea pet vet care was so expensive. She's not my kitty but I would do anything for her and it broke my heart seeing her sick. I would bring her back. Overall score js 4.5 because of the doors and hair. I do realize that it's impossible to have it spotless with countless animals but there was no effort while I was there to clean after groups were in the lobby and the room had not been cleaned prior to us going in. My only option was to clean off the bench myself shifting the hair to the floor or sitting on/beside it. I would have swept myself if given the option. read more

Vinton Veterinary Hospital is simply one of the best places you can take your pets to. From making appointments to getting Rascal's pre-op bloodwork completed and the dental cleaning done, the entire experience was very smooth and stress free. Once I dropped off Rascal, he was ready to be picked up in less than an hour. He experienced virtually no side effects besides sleeping the entire way home. It worked out perfectly because he gets horribly car sick sometimes and the ride home was 4 hours or so in length. I truly couldn't have asked for a better experience today. And the fee I paid for was beyond reasonable compared to the $1,100 quote that I was given elsewhere. I am so immensely thankful for Dr Wiegard, Emily, and all of the wonderful staff for taking such good care of us. I look forward to returning in the Fall for vaccinations and wellness visits as well as cleaning for my other beagle next year. read more

I took my 10 month old Maltese here to the emergency vet last night. It was my first time taking her to an emergency vet. The vet was awesome with my dog and she is feeling better already! My pup was scratching and licking at her paws, not wanting to eat and feeling very down. But this vet really fixed her up and sent her home with some good medicine and recommendations! We were seen in a timely manor, and Dr.Rachel Carey was very informative about all her findings, and explained them in a way we could understand. All the staff was very nice as well! I would give this vet 10/5 stars if I could!! We will definitely be transferring to this place as her normal veterinary practice in the future!!! Thank you!! read more

Vet sent me home with Pepcid because he said my dog had an upset stomach. After she kept getting worse, got a second opinion. She has kidney disease, kidney stones and pancreatitis. Not to mention her eye sight is failing and arthritis in her hip joints. She almost died under their care. Have never called that I wasn't put on hold. Had to wait 45 minutes with a sick dog to finally see the vet with an appointment. Terrible experience. This is not even most of it. read more

This is the best veterinarian hospital around. When I first moved to Vinton I had to find a vet for my Charlie the cat . This is the one I picked. They are great helping me understand what is going on. Very clean and fresh place. They handle the animals like they were there own. My cat got crystal in his bladder and had to have emergency surgery. They took him right away and kept me informed about what was going on. They had to keep him overnight and run IV. They didn't charge me extra cause Charlie kept pulling them out and pulled out his catheter (what a brat). Gave me all the information I need to keep him safe. Now he has to have prescription urinary tract treat's and food. They renewal it every year for me. He goes to them once a year and get a check up and a shot. They are very helpful when I call with a question. Always nice and informative. During COVID-19 they were doing everything to keep everyone healthy and safe. They give me informed about how to handle anything I need help with. Just all around good practice and the employees you could not ask for better. They also have a reward program to help knock down the cost and get services at a decent price. read more

We have been using Vinton Vet for more than 30 years, and we wouldn't take our cats any place else. The vets are the best, and the staff and techs are compassionate and caring. They know us by name and aways give the best care. And our vet, Dr. Neel, comes to the house for yearly exams and vaccines. They have a cat only waiting room and exam rooms. All eight of our current cats give them a four-paws-up review. Review shows that we are from San Francisco, but we live in Roanoke. No idea what the craziness is about. read more

You chose to delete my post I see. Bad idea. For the past 2 years +. I have taken Jager, my Min Pin to Vinton Vet since my wife, Teresa & I were married. My last visit was on 6-17-20 and I had a question. I called was hung up on 3 times without any voice but it rang and rang before it hung up. I tried again this time it went straight to the music of your hold. I was on hold for 14 minutes when someone answered and asked me if I could hold. I told them I had been on hold for 14 minutes (a cell phone shows how long the call has been going on) and then I heard the music again. At 24 minutes and some odd seconds someone else (different lady) else answered and asked if I had been helped. I told her no and that I had been holding for over 24 minutes. She apologized but said they were slammed and even having to use their personal phones. I could tell she was overworked and not enough help it seemed. There has been the shift in customer service since you all went corporate a couple a few years back. It is not the same level of human customer service as it has been, and still is once you get inside or your pets do, You treat your furry customers much better than your human ones. The lady who I spoke with could not answer my question (understandably) so she said she would give it to the office manager who was not in until Monday the 13 of July. I called on a Friday. I specifically said I need to hear from her no later than that Monday. No call, no explanation. You are about to lose me as a customer and quite possibly my wife who has been taking her pets there since 1987, she now tells me. This is where I take the Bat-dogs for their check ups. The front desk is always helpful and I never have to wait long to see the Vet. Highly recommend both Dr Neal and Dr Webber. Another visit to the vets, not sure why my other post was removed. It was easy to schedule the appointment, no waiting once we got to the office, minimal wait time to see the vet. Had all my questions answered and spent about 40 minutes with the vet. They didnt rush through the appointment which was really nice.... checking out was great the staff entertained my puppy for me while I payed the bill. It can be a challenge to pay the bill, juggle the bag of medications, my purse, keep the puppy incheck, dont drop the puppy toys/treats, find your car keys and remember to put your credit card away before it gets lost. My puppy also loves everyone there - she usually runs to the door, stops at the.counter to say hi, runs to the scales and tries to play with any one and everyone she meets on the way to the exam room then doesn't want to leave. read more

The service has seriously gone downhill since Dr. Webster sold it to a corporation...and the prices have gotten outrageous. Our dog Lucy had a growth pop up on her neck...went from the size of a pea to a golf ball in a matter of hours. Dr. Gallagher did a needle aspiration and said that it was full of tissue and blood cells and he recommended a biopsy. My husband and I both said that would be find if he sent it off to determine if it was cancerous, but we wanted it removed, regardless. He agreed, and said if it was his pet, he would do the same. The day of the surgery, my husband dropped her off and asked the receptionist, "she's written down as a full removal right?" She said yes. He asked the vet tech who checked her in, "full removal of the growth, right?" She also said yes. That evening when I came to pick her up, it took them over 20 minutes...when there was only 1 other person in the waiting room and 3 people at the front desk...to wait on me. Then it took ANOTHER 10 minutes for them to bring up her chart and tell me they DIDN'T remove the growth! I asked why and she just looked flustered and said that maybe it was in a bad place and couldn't be removed, the doctor would tell me more. I paid $464...and that's with my husband's military discount, for them to put her under and cut a small piece off, and NOT remove it like we asked. A friend had her dog at another local vet the same day having THREE growths removed...less than $300. Another 10 minutes goes by and the tech comes up and asks if there's anything else I need. I said....my dog????? She said, oh...let me get her. ANOTHER 10 minutes goes by and they finally bring her out and she said the doctor is busy and can't speak with me now. I told her fine, just have him call my husband the next day before he went to work. Twenty minutes after I got home, Dr. Gallagher called and said that there must have been a miscommunication. I said, yes...you were supposed to remove the growth on her neck. He said he never remembered me saying that. I told him that's what my husband asked when he brought her in the first time, and that's what I said when he called on the phone to give me the results of the needle aspiration. He said he still didn't recall the conversation. I told him that when she was dropped off that morning, my husband verified with both the receptionist and the vet tech that she was supposed to be having a removal and not just a biopsy. He said, well there's your problem right there...you should've spoken to the person who actually PERFORMED the surgery...if you went to the hospital for one procedure and randomly mentioned it to the nurse that you would like to have your leg removed too, do you think the doctor would do it? I was livid! I told him that was not the same thing and he knew it. We definitely DID discuss having the tumor removed because of its rapid growth and location....on her neck, she didn't want to swallow hard food. He said he had only worked up an estimate for the biopsy, and that if he HAD done a full removal, it certainly wouldn't be JUST $500. Then he said NO doctor would remove a growth until they knew what it was...implying they NEVER just outright remove tumors from pest. I used to work there. I've also been a pet owner my whole life and have had many over the years that have had growths removed. The doctors have always asked if we wanted a biopsy done, but never...and I mean NEVER...have said they couldn't perform the removal without doing a biopsy first. The expense is one thing...but now I will have to subject Lucy to ANOTHER surgery because of this arrogant ass. After 25 years, I am moving to another animal hospital. read more

We recently took our Chihuahua to have some teeth removed and others cleaned. She did wonderful they were helpful in explaining how to keep her comfortable at home. Provided needed medications as well as support to us answering any questions we had. They did a follow up call the next day to see if she was doing well. She ate her dinner the night of her surgery and feels so much better after having the bad teeth removed, more playful and just plain one happy dog. read more

This has been my vet for the past two years. They have 6 vets, I've seen 3 or 4 of them now. I'm partial to Dr. Gallagher, but everyone is great. The nice thing about this big staff is that it's easy to get into see them, and they have a few appointments after 5 pm (important to my stupid job). My two terriers, Peekaboo and Olivia are frequent fylers for boarding here as well as patients of Dr. Buckland. He is always so kind, compassionate and willing to help in any way. Excellent care and boarding. I never mind leaving them as I know they are very well taken care of and the staff follows my instructions. It is so nice that they keep records of their boarding habits and try to be consistent with the care. It's great to be able to board your pets where their Vet practices. This way, their medical records are readily available. I recommend their baths. Very nice to pick up a clean sweet smelling, happy pet. read more

I was extremely impressed with the service I received for my dog Charlotte on 05/20/2013. This was our first time to their facility and it was very pleasant. Dr. Jesse Webster was so gentle and showed such compassionate to her, you can tell that he really likes his job and truly cares about his patients. Those two things are not always a given at some providers. I have had negative experiences in the past with other providers which has made me leery. Vinton vet is great. I have been a dog owner for 23 years, and I have had experience on both ends of the spectrum: negligence vs. aggressive sales techniques. The attitude of the doctors I worked with at Vinton vet is right in the sweet spot of keeping me informed of available treatments without pressuring me into paying for options that are, in my opinion, overkill. The vets that I worked with were also forthcoming about things that I can do at home to mitigate some of the symptoms that my aging dog is facing. This is the best place! All employees from receptionists to technicians and vets seem to care about well being of your pet. They also do their best to schedule appointments, quickly, if needed. I've never requested a specific vet because they are all wonderful! When we purchased our pug, Carly, nine years ago, the breeder only allowed us 48 hours to have her checked out. This is by far the best vet hospital I have ever been to. I drive 3.5 hours for Dr. Wiegard. I have been with Vinton Vet for 16 years and they have only gotten better each year. Dr. Webster originally saw my dog and he was wonderful. I now see Dr. Wiegard and she is the most extraordinary vet I have ever seen. She performed a complicated surgery on my dog that other vets I visited were very reluctant to do. Though it was difficult, she made it work and helped my dog see another two years of life. She was with me every step of the way as I said goodbye to my K9 soulmate and she made the process bearable and walked me through it by my side. These people don't care about their customers...only the almighty dollar.Can some tell me why you have me call in prescription refills 24 hours ahead of time and I end up waiting almost 30 minutes for them when I come in the next day {35 hours later}?? With only 2 other people in line?? And the smug condescending attitude that permeates this office needs to be lost.I counted 5 customers{who came in after me} who's meds/doctors orders they picked up where ready and they were out the door inside of 5-8 minutes.Enjoy that money you got from me....it will be the last time. read more
