We had a number of appointments scheduled and felt either OK or uncomfortable with the places we toured. Then we found out about fellowship Square. We didn't have an appointment, but thought we would stop by anyhow to see if there was a possibility that we could take an unscheduled tour. Sandra came in to get to know a little bit more of the situation and what things my mom was looking for and to explain the property and amenities. Ultimately, she spent several hours with us. She took us to the dining facility so that we could experience the facility and the food. We were very pleasantly surprised Both by the dining facility and the food and the staff. Our server was Robert and he was absolutely wonderful. He also overheard that it was my mom's birthday the next day and when we finished our meal, he had all of the servers come out and sing happy birthday to her. During the tour, Sandra passed by several of the residence and knew them by their name Which was a very positive Indicator of how the staff treats the residence. The facility itself is very open and full of flowers and fountains and trees And just a very positive place. The apartments themselves are good sized and all of the amenities are wonderful. My sister and I will be very comfortable with our mom living there and it is a place that my mom also feels comfortable about. The fact that they are a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit or organization and a Christian organization was icing on the cake!!

My mother has been a Cascades resident for 2 years. My experience has been mostly positive. I…read moreread one of the negative reviews and it didn't sound like that person was describing Cascades. Perfection can be found no-where (if that is what you are looking for) but this place has good vibes as far as cleanliness and very nice Caregivers. They, like everywhere else, can get short on staff from time to time and mom has been neglected a few times, but nothing serious. I did expect the cost to reflect the care and have been disappointed from time to time. That's life. Every time mom has fallen (YES, old people fall A LOT), the Caregivers have always contacted me right away, even though mom tells them, "Don't worry my daughter, don't tell her I fell". With mom's recent fall, they called the ambulance because I was out of the country at the time and they took very good care of her. She has "aphasia" and ambulation difficulty secondary to a stroke, and she is near deaf due to measles as a child, so it is important to me that my mother is surrounded by people who are attentive to her condition, who will have patience with these incapacitations and who are genuinely caring and they seem to be. The front desk people are great. The dining room people that I've met while dining with mom have been great (food's good too!). I think you get back what you put out. My 86 y/o mom is sweet, respectful, kind, appreciative, and I think that is what she gets back in return from the Caregivers there. Although assisted living is not the way my mom envisioned living out her elder years, it has been a pretty good place for mom in her present condition AND my mom is relatively content living at Cascades. I struggled with feelings of guilt placing Mom in assisted living, due to our work schedules and being out of the country off and on, but at peace that assisted living is her best choice and we are grateful Mom is in a safe place with people who take pretty good care of her.

Although she was declining, she had a lot of life in her left to enjoy until her body gave out. I placed her at Devon Gables with hopes of good care, and friendly staff. I can honestly say that they exceeded my expectations. Every time I visited someone was caring for her. They never just forgot about her. They got her up every day and interacted with her. She was truly happy. She was always clean and her room was clean and the staff all expressed how much they enjoyed getting to know her. About 20 years ago my husband's grandfather was also there. Things were good then, but even better now. Thank you to all the staff that cared for mom.

Valerie in AL is a very caring woman who seems to work her tail off. Mom getting her hair done is of utmost importance, and the gal who comes on Friday to do hair is a sweetheart. We happened upon SDS when we needed to move my Mom to a 24 hour care Memory Unit, but needed an…read moreindependent unit for my Dad. A place that would allow them to be close and feel safe, supported. The property is lovely, and every single staff member I have come into contact with in the last two weeks is gracious, kind and friendly. It is not easy working in the senior retirement community business... I know as I worked in it for roughly 4 years as an ED. It is even more difficult working in a memory care unit, where aging loved ones are not the same selves they once were and need a lot of care. You have to give a level of trust, and rely on strangers to take care of your loved one the way you would. My Mom was here for roughly 2 weeks, with supplemental hospice care from the time she moved in, until the time she passed. The team in the memory care unit was always amazing to us, and my Mom. We were not there 24 hours mind you, but I observed the other residents being cared for and looked after by all the staff. My Mom was pretty much incapacitated and relied heavily on the kind and gentle care of the team here. Besides the Wellness Director Jackie, who was knowledgeable and kind, there is one lady in particular who was a standout to me. It was such a stressful time, I can't even for the life of me remember her name... but she had an eastern European accent. I felt as though she always took great care with my Mom, making sure she was comfortable and looked after... especially when we were not there.

Since then, grandpa has passed but before then the staff at Fairwinds worked so that he could stay there and be cared for. They took such good care of him and he loved the staff. Now, it is just my grandma and she continues to do so well and receive amazing care. It allows her whole family to rest assured that she is ok. I can't say enough about the staff, from the front desk, maintenance, the restaurant, events, etc. they are all amazing and so good to my grandma. Plus, the nursing and aid staff are fabulous to her. I go and visit her there at least twice a week and can attest to the fact that this is a great place for anyone who has someone that is in need of help to ensure they can live independently and safely. They have tons of things for her to do and activities to take part in. Finally, the food and menu is actually really great and the wait staff is even better!

The receptionist is ill equipped at best and transfers the call to the manager, Juan, who either ignores the call or just doesn't care or work his shift. I needed simple stuff and got no response. Time to let that dude go. It's a difficult job, but it's not getting done. I will recommend the place when they set the manager straight. It's sad.
