My first experience with Devon Gables was when I had my foot amputated. I was sent there for Rehabilitation. So I could walk and build strength! The Nursing staff were good, extremely good was a nurses assistant name, LeAnn, very attentive to my needs ! She helped me with the little things that I was not able to do, like plugging in my phone, getting the items I wanted out of my dresser drawer, bringing me new Kleenex, and others things! She even helped me get shaved up! Suzy was really helpful with getting me showered up! The Rehab Team was very helpful too!, especially Paul, Tino and Lisa! They made sure I was able to meet all the requirements of rehab so I could be discharged. Paul however in my personal opinion, went out of his way to keep me enthusiastic and positive about succeeding! ( more on Paul latter) The really bad part about my experience at Devon Gables, is the Food! I'll explain the reason I know about institutional cooking and hospital cooking. I served in the Army as a cook, and cooked for Generals as well as for Troops, exceeding 2500, 3 meals daily in Garrison and in Field Operations, also as a dietary cook in the kitchen at Silas B Hayes Army Hospital at Fort Ord, California. I know food service extremely well, I know the principals of food safety and why it is exceptionally important for the health of the people that are being served. The management nor, the kitchen staff has any functional capabilities of how to provide any of the above traits needed to make dining here pleasureable! We had a meeting with the New Chef/ assistant to the manager, David, and the manager of the Kitchen, Melissa, recently, about the food for upcoming Summer months. Alot of the residents complained about the food, just what I said, overall, they hate it! Breakfast, Dinner and Suppers are at Best!, terrible! The food lacks flavor, eye appeal and, has no smell that can be decifered as appealing as wanting to eat! When meat of any kind is served, it is well overcooked, has no taste as to what it is supposed to be, and usually is dried out. Vegetables are always mushy, no nutritional value at all, broccoli is just the stems, no flower parts! Soups are either so thick with flour or starch thicking and no flavor, or they have to much liquid and no flavor! Alot of patients are diabetic, most of the menus are made up of, noodles, potatoes, and rice, a lot of carbs, and calories! Basically the food is not healthy for the overall population! I've been served food with hair in it, and mold, I contacted the manager about it, and all she does is make excuses about it! The executive Staff cover for the lower management staff, especially when confronted with follow-up to needing something done in our apartments, ( I live here unfortunately because of fixed income) example, it took a year to get our bathroom faucet replaced when the old one broke and the day it was installed, it took five hours to complete! This is my home?, and it looks worse than TJ Mexico, the fences are so worn out, they look disgusting, boards are falling out and even falling as a whole, but when I ask about making our homes look appealing to our family and friends when they visit, if they visit, I'm told it's not in the Budget!, but the front of the office area and the pictures shown on the website are made to look very appealing and the rooms look like a hotel room, but that's far from actuality! where most visitors enter, that area is kept up, but our independent living area and assisted living areas looks terrible! ( Except around the office area) They don't water the grass, trees and bushes are dying off, and again it costs too much to keep it up! When my wife and I first moved in here, it was looking pretty nice, but now it is really shabby! I feel that if you want to have a business that has Health and Rehabilitation it should maintain what they advertise! Not here though! When, I would say, anyone goes looking for a new home or Apartment, Condo or, whatever, They would want curb appeal to be looking nice and kept up, nice neighborhood, professional knowledge Management, appropriately priced, etcetera. I personally believe Devon Gables on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the worst, and, 10 being the best, I'd give a 3, for overall! Believe me, if I had the money to do so, and be able to afford another place I would leave here! This is just My opinion mind you, but talking to others around me who live here, they feel the same way! Another little note, I've seen personally, five people leave here because they died, and three leave just because of the food issues! Remember I said more about Paul! He still comes around to see how I'm doing, says Hi to my wife and asks if there's anything he can do for us! Paul is a real person down to earth individual who genuinely cares about who he provides physical therapy to, but also he is a man that cares about and for all people! read more

Came here because the website states We take pride in our fine cuisine, served with a Tucson touch. also Dining We understand the importance of well-balanced meals to our residents. Our registered dietitian prepares a variety of dining options, including low-sodium, diabetic or low- fat (when ordered by the attending physician.) We serve candle light dinner every other Monday, on these evening our residents enjoy a fine dining experience. The Dining Room is a gathering spot for residents and guests. For those who prefer to dine in private, room service is also available. Witch all of it was a lie with the exception of room service it's sad to say that they have no culinary experience whatsoever. They show that they don't care about what they feed the save is wrong. When the people that live here they look forward to most of all they're looking forward to and yet just what everybody thinks about places like this how they don't their mom or their dad or grandma or grandpa for the fear be or not get the same quality as would get at home I do not recommend this place for the Some staff are great and amazing the physical therapy Paul and Tino a really great but the way I know what they're doing to make sure your back to your physical health thank you I hope the corporate office gives me a call. Recently my wonderful mom fell and needed rehab. Sadly, her health declined after having surgery to repair her broken leg. She was 92. Although she was declining, she had a lot of life in her left to enjoy until her body gave out. I placed her at Devon Gables with hopes of good care, and friendly staff. I can honestly say that they exceeded my expectations. Every time I visited someone was caring for her. They never just forgot about her. They got her up every day and interacted with her. She was truly happy. She was always clean and her room was clean and the staff all expressed how much they enjoyed getting to know her. About 20 years ago my husband's grandfather was also there. Things were good then, but even better now. Thank you to all the staff that cared for mom. read more

As another poster said - do not let the older appearance of this facility fool you. My 100 year old mother broke her hip and was placed at Devon Gables for rehabilitation. It quickly became clear that she would not be able to rehab and was ready for Hospice care. Our family chose to keep Mom at Devon Gables while she received Hospice care from an outside agency. She was in this facility for 40 days before she passed (a strong lady!). My brother and I tagged teamed visiting Mom daily and took great comfort in seeing the dignity and care with which she was treated. Although ALL of the staff were awesome I had the most interaction with Emil her day shift CNA and Melissa the day shift RN. Both were exceptional. Also a special shout out to Paul in PT who did not provide Mom direct care but was a still a special light throughout our visiting experience. The energy I felt walking into the facility was awesome - from the front desk sign-in to the folks that kept the facility clean. And clean it was! Those floors were constantly being cleaned and the bathroom in Mom's room was spotless! I have and will continue to recommend this facility to anyone whose family members need long time care. Having Mom there in her last days gave us great peace and I will never forget it. read more

A relative who is both physically and behaviorally challenged was a patient there. The staff went out of their way to meet his needs. It was easy to communicate with them and with the admin folks. He had some special room requests and they found a way to work it out. They were very patient with a person who was demanding and impatient. He would have liked more vegetarian choices and they worked around that as best they could. I was more than pleasantly surprised with this facility since it's the first time he was in a skilled nursing facility. read more

People need to look past not having a fancy chandelier in the entry, and look past the older facility, and see the amazing staff and high level of care offered at Devon Gables. Hand down the best in care with long term staff, with a very high staff to patient ratio. They can handle most any patients needs, especially as patients needs grow. The facility is older, but maintained and not dirty in any way. The rooms are large, and some with patios to the outside. We are happy with our decision to place our loved one there, and hope this helps anyone with such a tuff decision. read more

Stay away from this horrible house of horrors. Lack of care by staff. No one takes responsibility. Facility lacks proper accountability by any senior staffing or leadership. Residents lay for unlimited time with no staff responding to their needs. The food served isn't fit for an animal. I'm the past it's been made aware of residents passing away during being cared by this facility. There is always and excuse when addressing the lacking of care. All this facility is concerned about is that they don't get a bad mark with the state of Arizona and lose their funding. Documents are adjusted to the favor of Devon and never a resident. So sad that this facility doesn't step it up and clean up their care! read more

A Friend who had knee surgery is there. The nurse gave his meds to another patient so he got zero pain meds till this morning. they have made multiple time NOT read hid chart so hope the nurse is sanctioned or fired. Been reported to ADHS and AZBN. Not smart to mess up on an RN(former nursing director) before this. I DO NOT reccommend this place. read more

Devon Gables is a great place for many of its residents. They offer everything from independent living, assisted living to secured memory care. They are also the only facility in Southern Arizona that still allows smoking (at certain times throughout the day). The cafeteria has good food to accommodate most palates and nutrition guidelines. The activities director is great and upbeat as are the activity assistants. They always have something going on. The only thing that I dislike would be that there are televisions on nearly every unit so you will find people planted to their chairs zoned out watching TV. My sister was at this facility and passed away on 6/2/19 a week before her next birthday. This facility did not provide the hospice care required for someone who was not able to care for themselves. I don't feel they provided much care or attention at all, and I feel my sister was physically abused here as well. She was always kept isolated in a room by herself and probably frightened most of the time. When I traveled to see family in Tucson I would stop in to see my sister and was always given some excuse. She is with a doctor now, or its outside of visiting hours, I have never been so frustrated with a health care facility. Do not have any of your relatives taken in by this facility, you may never see them again like our family did. I don't recommend this facility to anyone needing care, stay away!!! Keep searching and if financial issues are a problem keep searching you will get the proper help you need. If I could give you zero stars I would but this system won't allow it! read more

A volunteer care worker put me on hold for 28 minutes when she came back she referred to my mom is that old woman and then she put me on hold again to get my phone number because she lost her pencil and paper I left numerous messages for them until I had to give verbal I would not recommend this place to anybody read more

My mom has been there for almost a year now and I'm so happy with her progress at Devon Gables. The staff has helped her get her independence back after having many falls at home and other major health issues and I am so grateful for them. The staff are extremely professional, the facility is kept spotless and there is no "nursing home" smell. The food has improved greatly since she moved there. I am very impressed with Devon Gables and I highly recommend them to anyone in need of long term care, assisted living, and rehabilitation services. read more

My grandmother was here a couple times, not by our choice but due to insurance reasons. First couple experiences were okay, but the last was just an absolute nightmare. My grandmother fell at night and we did not find out until she told us the next morning. She was disoriented and bruised, staff had no knowledge or clue of who her night time nurse was. At the time my grandmother was not in the condition to be getting up on her own so someone had to have helped her back in be, and yet no one knew anything. Nurses wouldn't come even when we were there asking them for help, she was in terrible pain from her UTI. We ended up calling 911 to get her help. Avoid at all costs. read more

My aunt lived at Devon Gables before she passed away. The staff provided great care for her in her final years. If you're looking for a place for your loved one, I'd suggest touring some places to see for yourself instead of relying on these reviews. I always found the place to be clean and the staff friendly. My aunt could be difficult at times but they cared for her with compassion. I got to know the staff pretty well and felt comfortable with her being there. Wow. just looked at some previous reviews that are not consistent with our experience at Devon Gables in the Long Term Care facility. My brother was difficult to place - as he was moving to AZ from CO to be with our family. Devon Gables was the only facility (out of about 6 visited) that knew how to make this happen. They coordinated well with the previous nursing home and the transition was fairly easy. My brother has some memory impairment and is on a secure unit for his safety. While this is not optimal - as my brother is a people watcher - he is safe and the team responds to any concerns I may have about his care or condition. He is on a pureed diet - I've tasted it - it tastes as good as if it were not pureed! He has favorite staff, and seems to be well respected. No place is perfect; even if he was home. I can not care for his physical needs, but I do get to visit at least twice a week. I live an hour away so this is hard but worth it. The Admin folks are always helpful with forms and financial stuff. I have never been turned away for being outside of visiting hours. During a recent serious illness Hospice of Tucson was called in and they interfaced well with our family and the staff at Devon Gables. My brother thankfully "graduated" from Hospice and no longer requires their support, but it is nice to know it is there if needed. I do recommend this location - and recommend that you visit a lot - our friends and family members need our support and it seems to be welcomed at the facility. read more

My great grandma was at Devon Gables for a week from what I saw they only paid attention to her if family or friends were visiting her. When I went to visit her she told me that she had been coughing a lot that morning and no one offered to give her anything to help her with the cough I also needed to help her adjust her hearing aid and put chapstick on her lips she was incredibly unhappy here we will not be returning read more

My dad was put into this facility and we had been told they had a not so great rating but we're working hard to improve their reputation. At first they seemed to be attentive but we had to complain several times because the took up to an hour to answer his calls to use the restroom. He was a fall risk and was getting up and doing it himself. He was supposed to have 2 nurses and we rarely saw that happen. When he passed the called to say they thought he had a cardiac even, the another person told me another story about how he died. They were all surprised he went so fast as were we. Deciding on a facility for my mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's four years ago, was not easy. After visiting several care centers, we finally came across Devon Gables. I could not have imagined of a better facility for my mother. The staff was so accommodating and friendly. I could instantly notice that they put my mother as a priority and wanted to help her as much as they possibly could. Not only is Devon Gables for Alzheimer's patients, but also offers assisted living, independent living and a rehab facility. The facility itself is very well taken care of with several activities for the residents and well as a great dining area and great food. I would strongly recommend this facility to any family that is looking for a place for a loved one. read more

My aunt is currently staying here due to insurance reasons. The nurse on shift tonight was unnecessarily rude. My aunt called me crying in pain and told me they wouldn't even give her tylenol. I am an RN and know a few things about medication administration. I've worked on both a med surg floor and currently work on an inpatient psych unit. She told me they just handed her meds and she took them. No one went over the meds she was taking and she just trusted them to take care of her. I got a list of the meds she was taking and asked to see if she was receiving her antidepressant, as she has been making pretty suicidal statements lately. The nurse told me she was taking doxepin. However, I'm currently in school for my psych NP, I told the nurse that it was for sleep, which was also indicated on the chart HE provided. I asked if she would be getting her venlafaxine in which he responded with an "idk probably" and that I couldn't go by the print out that again HE provided. There was a column that said last administered, so I knew she hadn't received that med. Either way, stay clear of this place. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. read more

My brother was a resident of Devon Gables for a little over six years, due to a major stroke and over time multiple small strokes. The care at Devon was excellent. A difficult situation for someone who would have been only 62 this coming August. He passed away just this last week. He was cared for during these years by a caring staff. I was amazed at the concern, smiles, loving touch the staff takes time for residents. Time and time again I saw their responses to sometimes difficult residents and we demanding families. The facility never had an odor... amazing for a care facilities. I have a family member at Devon Gables, and I am not happy with her care. The biggest problem is the nursing staff (Many Times) does not answer her bell or light when she asks for help. Sometimes taking up to a hour or more before they give her the attention she needs. A woman I know who is a nurse has stated that by law they must answer the bell or light within 7 minutes. I know the nursing staff works hard, but what if my sister was having a stroke or had fallen on the floor???. Tonight the same thing happened. My sister called me to tell me she had hit the light button for help and it had been over 1/2 hour with no response from the nursing staff. I than called Devon Gables and like usual got the "Nasty" head nurse who works the night shift.. Who immediately answered the phone. Most likely because she was sitting in her cubby office. I was very polite to her and told her that I cannot understand why my sister had pushed her light for help, and again. It had been over 1/2 hour with no help. I explained to her that by law they were supposed to answer the light within 7 minutes. Her response " IN A PERFECT WORLD"!! I was appalled by her answer! I than said to her "What if my sister had fallen to the floor (She is a stroke victim)! This nurse was very snide, rude, and nasty. She need to go back to Nursing 101! or CHANGE HER JOB!!! My opinion DO NOT PUT A FAMILY MEMBER YOU LOVE IN DEVON GABLES HEALTH CARE CENTER. read more

This is the worst place ever! The staff were nice but as soon as you left they completely ignored their patients. The food is completely disgusting and they serve so much that it's just wasteful. The exterior and grounds need attention. TV's don't work, remote controls don't work, patients phones don't work...I could go on and on! read more
