The home is very organized, clean and has a welcoming environment making everyone feel at home. The home is designed with a large great room, tv room and very nice kitchen. Uncompassionate administration and incompetent nursing staff…read more When Watermark bought the Quail Park of Oro Valley Assisted Living facility, the administration and nurses were fired (or left on their own accord), which should have been a red flag for us. Watermark overdosed my mother-in-law with insulin two days in a row which cause her blood glucose to bottom out. We had to report this to their primary care provider so she can force them to follow her medical orders. When they realized their mistake, they evicted my in-laws and handed the letter directly to my mother-in-law and ignored my wife's wishes to have her handle the situation. As a result of the stress it place on my mother-in-law, she underwent congestive heart failure and ended up in the emergency room and was hospitalized from Christmas to after New Years. This could have been prevented if they had let my wife handle the situation. My wife has Power of Attorney (POA) for her parents for all financial and medical decisions. The Interim Executive Director, Brenda, informed my wife that the Power of Attorney was not valid because it was not court ordered or medically invoked. We verified that the POA is indeed valid for all financial and medical decisions with our lawyers and state agencies and should not have been ignored. Brenda had the audacity to send my wife, as their POA, the bill for their final days. We later found out that a medical technician was being presented as their nurse. Several times we called the facility and requested to speak to the nurse and were transferred to the med tech. Brenda often referred to her as their "Nurse". I confirmed with the AZ Nursing Board website that she is not a licensed nurse. I would give zero stars if possible. Beware and stay clear!

I must agree with the review that says problems start at the top of management. The owner passed…read moreaway and his daughter inherited the building (that's what I heard anyway). When concerns were brought to her about Janice and her staff she mocked me and did nothing. Janice was a marketing director. She became the Executive Director and I do not believe she ever had prior caregiving experience. She never checked / or seemed to care on what was going on inside those houses. She was often understaffed and residents were neglected. From my miserable experience of having my father there I heard of 2 people who died from falls that may have been prevented with proper staffing and care. I also was told of a women who died because she was ill and staff was not doing much to help her. One staff member advocated for her to be seen by a doctor or nurse, but her voice was dismissed and the woman died. That employee was heart broken and left her position there promptly. The final straw for me and two other family members of residents : they were allowing employees to bring their sick children to the home while they "worked" and they all had Covid with symptoms!!! In fact they were pushing them to come to work even though they were symptomatic. Avid this place. It's very sad to see that many of these facilities are mainly focused on making money rather than providing the best care for helpless seniors. It can happen to any of us, anyone of us can end up in a place like this and change needs to happen!! Avoid Villas on Houghton and La Cañada as they are both ran by the same Janice and same corporate office management.

I changed my review of Brookdale from 5 stars to 1 star because of the extremely poor management and corporate policies here. There have been at least four different executive directors here in the two years that my dad has lived here. Each director would make promises about the monthly cost, and then subsequent directors would not honor them. Brookdale also increases rent every year. The worst part is that they keep raising my father's care costs, and often without informing me. Today I received my father's monthly bill and it was $2,000 higher than normal. Apparently my dad was not getting charged for something and they decided to bill me retroactively, and without any notice. This is made even worse now because of the current COVID-19 lockdown. Even if I wanted to move my father to a different facility, I can't take tours of any other facilities because they are not allowing visitors. I feel that I was lured into moving my dad here with low monthly costs, and now my dad's monthly bill here far exceeds his income.
