From beginning to end, Dr. Hung and ALL of his staff from admin to nurses treated my mom with the utmost care with her Mohs surgery. Dr. Hung was extremely kind and did a fantastic job. You cannot even see my mom's scar. We are completely appreciative of his expertise! We would not go anywhere else. Perfection! AND his is office is an absolutely beautiful space of architecture! Dr Hung is quite amazing! Leaving my procedure did leave me looking like Frankenstein but a week passed and I was amazed at the difference. The healing that took place was phenomenal. Another week and it is hard to believe I ever looked the way I did. W couple months passed and the scaring on my face that I thought would never leave me looks as if I never had anything there. How can that be? I was so. Cut up yet now only a little place where I keloided is left. It is beautiful. Hard to believe but what is there is nothing. I never had anything done is what I look like. i have so many regrets about having dr hung perform my moh's surgery on my face. the removal was fine, but the reconstruction is a disaster. the area is in a very sensitive place, next to my mouth, and needed to be handled by a surgeon with a sense of aesthetics and strategic care. i asked him many questions about how it was going to be handled, but he resisted giving me details, and simply reassured me not to worry. we did both procedures in one day (the skin cancer removal and the reconstruction). so i felt pressure to go ahead with the second phase. in a sense i blame myself for not listening to my instincts as i witnessed the dr. rushing from patient to patient, surgery after surgery, like a revolving door. he has a distant detatched disposition and gives the impression that it's silly to ask questions or doubt him, because of course he knows best. i didn't listen to my instincts, and now my mouth is lopsided with a severe downturned corner on one side. the cause is that he stitched the upper corner of my lip down over my lower lip, resulting in a permanent frown essentially. it is pretty horrific aesthetically as well as functionally. it restricts my being able to open my mouth to smile, to brush my teeth, have thorough dental exams, and taking anything other than small bites of food. imagine not being able to take a bite of an apple, and forget sandwiches or hamburgers. i honestly do not mind the huge scar radiating down to my jaw, but the downturned sag and restricted use of my mouth is torture. there are absolutely other ways this reconstruction could have been handled, such as tissue transfer. he chose not to take the time to perform that extra step and instead did it the quick and easy way. ($9800 in 30 minutes) . i am now going to have to have more surgery to fix what was done. believe me that i am seeing a more thoughtful, strategic and skilled plastic surgeon to reconstruct this rush job that was performed so callously. if you have skin cancer somewhere more innocuous in a more hidden area than your face, i would say he is a fine person to handle it, if you don't need much discussion or interaction. any sensitive or tricky area though should be left to someone more considered, kind and skilled. read more

I went to Dr. Hung in 2020 for skin cancer on my forehead. He first did MOHS to determine if he had removed all of the skin cancer. He gave me multiple pain killing shots in my forehead and after it was clear that he would need to do yet another MOHS the same day, I asked him if he would need to give me another shot? He literally yelled at me and said, "It's not a shot! It's an injection!" Needless to say, this doctor is a real jerk and does not have an ounce of people skills in him. Avoid going to him and find another dermatologist who also does MOHS surgery. He's not the only one who does this. read more

Editing to say that the intake nurse/assistant was really nice. Other than that, my visit was a total disappointment. Dr. Hung can do skin cancer repairs and lots of people are happy with that. But he pretended like I shouldn't still have problems with something that happened a long time ago. Gee, if it's never been fixed and I keep running into doctors who don't have the training to fix my problem, here I am years later with the same problem. I drove really far from out of town to see this guy and he was sort of a jerk about my problems. I even had a report from a provider in a related field who is not a surgeon and he didn't actually read all of it. He gave me some speech about how he's risk averse because he's in private practice and his training didn't cover my specific issue. This isn't a review but rather a clarification. Dr. Hung markets himself as both a dermatologist and plastic surgeon on his website, but when I called to make an appointment to have a skin lesion evaluated ( because I believe it may be a squamous cell cancer) I was told by his office that I needed a biopsy report and a picture of the lesion in order to make an appointment. I was told that he didn't practice dermatology. and would only be involved in the surgical treatment of a known diagnosis. His website does later state that his practice is limited to surgery, but this wasn't clear to me until I called as the website also makes the point of leading with the fact that he's the only physician in the country that's boarded in Internal medicine, dermatology, plastic and mohs surgery - which in the reason I called. I will add that as a medical professional I have only heard positive things about Dr. Hung. read more

The office is very unorganized no communication cancelled my appointmnet without any call

I had a basal cell carcinoma in the outside edge of my nostril that just kept getting bigger. I finally called Dr. Hung, and they got me in promptly. Yes, during this COVID lockdown their office protocol was very careful- even cumbersome- 'had to take a test in the parking lot, then come back for the procedure after the results (negative) were established. But I appreciate the careful concern for the safety and well-being of other patients, the staff, and the office. The MOHS procedure seemed to take forever, but Dr. Hung and the surgical staff were friendly and encouraging. After the procedure, Dr. Hung determined that plastic surgery to rebuild the damaged area was indicated, so off to the other side (the plastic surgery area) of the facility I went. It was all done in a few hours, and I began the healing process. Several months later I look in the mirror and cannot believe the perfect, healed result!! Dr. Vincent Hung is not only highly medically competent, he is also an artist with incredible attention to detail! So, thank you Dr. Hung- thank you Lois for running such a great medical facility, and thanks to all the great staff who couldn't have made this unpleasant procedure any more bearable! read more

Dr. Hung performed the procedure I needed, and and it didn't get infected - so it's better than it could have been, and that's why it's not 1 star. Most plastic surgeons have two practices - a cash-payment business for cosmetic work and an insurance business for non-elective work. The former is usually like a "high-end" spa experience, whereas the latter is usually more about volume (auto repair shops also fall into these categories). Unfortunately for me, mine was the latter - and it was more like a factory than a doctor's office. The office staff is an unprofessional, incompetent train wreck. Their systems and processes are completely broken, but they defend them. And I should have known better when my surgery was scheduled for 9 PM on a Friday night. There were people stacked up before and after me. I think it was rushed - he disagrees with me. But the scar is unacceptable and I can't get his office to respond to my calls for an explanation of what my options are at this point. Probably because they assume I won't pay cash. Somebody is really whipping them to make money, that much I'm sure of. read more

I spent 3 weeks trying to get anyone to return my calls. When o finally got a staff and the manager they were rude abrasive. Be warned. Before you even gat an appointment you have to pay 50.00 for a codvin test. You will also have to fax your application which takes at least 45 min. Mind you I was ready my dermatologist and this dr has all my information. I never seen or even spoke to the dr. The place is horrible towards patients. Dr. Hung and his staff is extremely competent, accommodating and welcoming with the exception of his elderly receptionist. I took my elderly mother there on a Saturday and the receptionist was very rude and condescending. I was hesitant to leave my mother there for her procedure, but I knew staying there was not an option with this receptionist present. To start off with we waited 1 hour and 30 minutes WITH an appointment that we were early 10 minutes. This Dr. advised my family during a consultation that he was able to perform a certain procedure to remove certain things. He assured that it was possible and not an issue. When we returned for the procedure, he stated the COMPLETE opposite. He didn't remove the number of things we agreed on. He also lied and said he never told us such things . He basically sold the procedure to get paid to HIS liking. Not to what we wanted and had agreed to. When confronted and told we were confused he simply said "we can always get more approvals for more procedures." In a very bothered tone. I recently had my 2nd Moh's surgery with Dr Hung. He has done my nose and lip and I am thrilled with the results --he is so very skilled and an absolute artist with his attention to detail. Dr. Hung is an amazing physician and human. He is one of a kind. Only doctor in US triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Dermatology and Plastic Surgery and with a specialization in Mohs surgery. Stanford grad. He works 6 days a week twice a month. He has an office in Pasadena (3-4 days) and one in Newport Beach (2 days) and starts work at 6 a.m.! The offices are run efficiently by competent and helpful individuals. He plays classical music on Sonos speakers in all his exam and operating rooms. He has removed via Mohs surgery about 10 basil cell skin cancers on my face, back, legs and arms over a 6-year period and is about to remove an in-situ melanoma from my scalp. Most of the basil cell surgeries were left open instead of being closed with stitches at my request as I play tennis. I have always gotten in on time unless his staff was fitting me in like they recently did when a biopsy indicated a small melanoma on my scalp. I believe those who have been frustrated with wait times may not understand how Mohs surgery works. The goal is to remove the cancer with the minimal amount of skin removed. After the initial surgery, Dr. Hung looks at the removed skin to see if the 'margins are clear' - meaning all the cancer was removed. If the margins aren't clear, more skin is cut and then analyzed. Preparing the removed skin for microscopic review and Dr. Hung's review takes time. During this time, the patient sits in the waiting room :-) He cares about his work. He is a perfectionist. He has integrity. He clearly lays out options. We live 2 1/2 hours away and would continue to see him if it were twice the distance. read more

My husband went to Dr. Hung for a squamous cancer cell on his hand. I'm writing this review because my husband is not as vocal as I am. His first meeting with Dr. Hung was cordial and minimally informative. The surgery went well. The follow-up visits may have been unnecessarily prolonged when the removal of the 25+ stitches were stretched into two visits, when it could've been completed in one. We question whether it was another means of unnecessary charges to his patient. At one of the follow-up visits, we waited 1-1/2 hours to be seen by Dr. Hung. That was insane!!! We have appointments too but we notify the concerned if we'll be late. Dr. Hung and his staff apparently don't believe in that courtesy. We discovered later that his office over-charged us for a visit on which we weren't even there. Heads up to everyone: check your Health Care statements sent you by your service carrier, i.e., Humana, Anthem, etc. We would like to think that it was an honest mistake and not a common occurrence to gain more income from patients. read more

I recently saw Dr. Hung for basal-cell carcinoma. His office is arguably the most organized, friendliest operation of any I have ever seen in the field of medicine. There was some waiting, but they have internet and different areas in which you can wait. Dr. Hung waits for no one, but his myriad of offices are set up to optimize his time, very wise and likely the best kind of business model. The one thing I didn't understand was why there were "two sides" of the offices, both with Dr. Hung at the helm. One side is the Mohs surgery side, where you also return for (to many) follow up visits. The other is the "hospital" side, where you're sewed up. Again, very impressive and each staff person is kinder than the next. Highly skilled physician to boot. read more

Dr. Hung removed a very large squamous cell carcinoma from the top of my mother's head. Then he performed plastic surgery to close the wound so that my mother would not have a bald spot on top of her head. Dr. Hung is amazing. I consider finding him one of the biggest blessings in my (our) life. My mother saw him for more than 18 months and the surgeries, every office visit and every follow-up was perfect. His staff is excellent. Every person we contacted over this time was more than kind to my elderly mother, they made her feel calm, welcome and loved. This review is not for my treatment by Dr. Hung ten years ago. He was great and I recommend him often. However, we are eight months into covid and I just found out he's doing "telemedicine" and not seeing patients for evaluation. I called for my husband who wanted a second opinion of a basal cell on his face but we don't "do" telemed. Especially for derm that needs to be "eyeballed" and not talked out, like perhaps a psycho-therapist is helpful in treating through a computer screen. If one can sit in a stylist's chair for a hair cut with a mask, one can do the same in a doctor's office. read more

Dr. Hung has been my doctor for many, many years and in several different offices. As far as his surgical skills there is no one better. As far as his choice for employees (Lois), his judgement is highly questionable. Lois is the office manager (she is very quick to announce that- as if it means anything) respect is earned not granted just because of a title. I have on many occasions witnessed Lois being completely impolite, disrespectful, and abhorrently ill-mannered, not only with other employees, but also with patients. I know doctor Hung cares about his patients, but if he realized how Lois is with patients I would expect her to be on the fast track to unemployment. If a patient doesn't do exactly as she expects them to (check in, sit down, shut up and wait) she gives the CRAZIEST look and gets very flip with them. They don't even have to be rude, for her to snap at them. Once a patient wanted to know if she had time to step out to call and see how her sons surgery was going, and Lois cut her off and told her to "take a look at the full waiting room, she is not the only one having to wait, Dr. Hung has lots of patients." I would also like to add that the way she answers the phone sounds like you are bothering her, not welcoming at all. Again, I have come to Dr. Hung for years, and love him. Lois, however, is getting worse and worse; I have actually had my dermatologist do my last few surgeries to avoid the negative energy in that office. Lois has two sides: rude/overbearing and completely fake/so good to see you. I get the second of the two, but am just tired of seeing her continuously be disrespectful to others. I keep hoping she will retire, she is well past being fit to do her job. I have even written letters to Dr. Hung about instances and concerns I have regarding her. But, since she is the office manager, I assume she disposes of any letters that do not gloat about her. One last story, I witnessed a patient bring in gifts for all of the staff. He was in the back of the office for his treatment and went into the nurses area to give them their pick of treats. Lois yelled at him and told him he couldn't be in that area. I sat in the waiting room with this man. He was heart broken. Just trying to do a nice thing and spread some joy, and there he sat with tears in his eyes the rest of his visit that day. I took my father in law to see Dr Hung for skin cancer removal, the staff was nice and cordial but the waiting time is ridiculous. They pile up patients with no regard for any of their time, needs and condition. We had to wait over six hours, the surgery took 5 minutes but for the doctor to look at slide and give it all clear took over 5 hours. Will not recommend to anyone to see Dr Hung. read more

I have had 6 basal cell carcinomas surgically removed from my face and 2 more removed from my nose (MOHs surgery). Dr. Hung performed all but 3 of these procedures and his results are way better than the other two surgeons. If you are considering MOHs surgery on your face, there is no better surgeon than Dr. Hung. His skill is unparalleled. Yes, his office is busy and the wait times are long, but that is because he is in high demand. Trust me. You don't want to have your face worked on by anyone that doesn't have a waiting list. I had a rare tumor on my forehead (dfsp) that was growing rapidly. Showed up in sept, got it removed the first time by a dermatologist and biopsied in dec. because I thought it was a cyst. At that point it was the size of a marble, I got the call in early January that I needed to get surgery to remove all of it. By February it had grown almost back to its previous size. It took 3 cuts to remove it, the cut was the size of a silver dollar all the way down to my skull. It took 36 stitches to sow my face back up. It was in the shape of a backwards L from the top center of my forehead to the far corner of my left eyebrow. It's been 8 months since the surgery and my scare is almost not even noticeable. It took about two months to be able to be active again and I still have half of my forehead and top of my head numb, but I was warned of that before hand. Had I waited any longer it would have penetrated my skull and I would have had to do chemo. Dr Hung is very professional and great at what he does. I'm going in today to get a check up. The amount of cutting on my face was insane but it's even more insane of the lack of a scar. Don't wait to get stuff like this checked out. read more

I am a registered nurse who had surgery a year ago with Dr. Hung for a squamous cell on my cheek. I went to him because of his impressive resume. I thought that a MOHS and plastic surgeon would be the best since it was on my face. I had the option to go to my regular MOHS dermatologist who has done other surgeries for me in the past. But, I thought I was making the best decision by choosing Dr. Hung. One year later and I have the most ugly scar on my face. It is more than two inches long, has suture marks across the scar and is very visible and I now need heavy cover up which I never used before the surgery. I am very embarrassed and never go out of my house without makeup. Dr. Hung offered to do a scar revision, ,but there is no way that I will let that man touch my face again. He is the worst surgeon and I am very sorry that I went to him. read more

I would really like to add to the chorus of praise sung by some of this doctor's patients. I never even got past his staff when I called for an appointment. After being put on hold for almost 5 minutes (no big deal, doctor's offices can get pretty frantic), I got through to a woman who apparently makes appointments for the doctor. I explained to her a fairly painful, serious new skin condition that I had been treated for a week earlier during an Urgent Care appointment. I reported that the condition persisted, so I wanted to see the doctor and perhaps become a regular patient. She asked, in a hoity-toity, haughty tone, "What do you want to see the doctor for? What would be the nature of the visit?" Seriously??? She then said that the doctor didn't treat the not-uncommon condition (ANY serious dermatologist would) and that a female associate, not a doctor, would be able to see me instead -- in a week or two. This doctor may be the Second Coming but if this is an example of how he lets his staff deal with everyday patients (that is: those who aren't coming in for expensive cosmetic surgery procedures), you're welcome to him. read more
