I have seen good and bad reviews for this practice, but I have had nothing but outstanding care. I go every 6 months and see Aileen Castillo, the NP who is always friendly and efficient. The front office is a little dated and tired but the staff are friendly and I never have to wait long once I get there. read more

They're excellent. Period. Nothing else to say about it. 100% reliable. They won't remove moles to make extra $$$ like others I dealt with. I saw Dr Sofen once: He operated on me because I had skin cancer on my face. I thought I'd be disfigured for life, but he's a dermatology superstar. I can't believe you can hardly see anything at all on my face 6 months after the surgery. There's 0 reason not to give these guys 5 stars. I'd give them 6 if I could. read more

Dr. Sofen quite literally saved my life. I have never met a physician so deeply dedicated to helping those who suffer from eczema--a condition that can be profoundly debilitating. He has been at the forefront of pioneering meaningful, real change in how this condition is treated. For eleven years, I have had the privilege of working with him, and throughout that time he has remained steadfast in supporting me through complex challenges, helping me reclaim my health and my life. His dedication, compassion, and unwavering care are extraordinary and I am grateful for his commitment and expertise. He is truly a blessing. read more

3 times he canceled my appointment , better to get someone else that considers appointments done . Do not recommend for being an office that don't care nor have the quality to advise in a timely manner , the last one for first visit they call me , leave a voice message saying call to confirm, I did in 15 Min of receiving and tells me the doctor will not be for the appointment ! Complaining why someone called me to confirm ? Well ! It seems they do t get together before . 3 times for me was enough to understand they do t care about patients enough , I'm a 72 years old gentleman and not to be playing around with incapacitated office personnel ! Sorry , I do not recommend this office nor Dr ! Good luck imbeciles ! read more

totally disgusting and rude office, dirty floor, full of hair, blood and visible dirt. This quack had his medical license revoked for inappropriate behavior with a patient and requires chaperones to even be in the room. The practice is some kind of cash grab run by physicians assistants, doing clinical trials, bottom of the barrel care. He left a ruptured pilar cyst in my scalp, which I was needing to get removed for three months. Finally went to go pay cash out a legitimate dermatology office and the doctor did it on the spot also concurred that it should've come out months prior. They were not equipped to do the procedure in the first place, total waste of time and a total creep. DISGUSTING. The California medical board needs to shut this disgusting office down. it's like a filthy gas station bathroom in there, chaotic and disgusting. Sad these people are allowed to practice with such a sh*t level of care. read more

One representative hung up in my face when I was trying to make an appointment because the call went passed 5 o'clock and she said she was off. Then you'll wait 2- 3 months to speak to the physician only to speak to their assistant which didn't seem knowledgeable on how to handle my skin issue. You'll write why you're visiting on the papers that you fill out when you get there & then you'll explain it to the front desk to explain to the physician assistant and then you'll have to explain again when you meet them because either they don't want or know how to read and they have trouble communicating internally. I wouldn't be surprised if they just google your condition after you fill out the paperwork because when I asked the assistant about my common skin condition, the actual reason I came in, she didn't know what treatment I should be taking. read more

I had a great experience at my new patient consult with PA Nusha. 2 weeks before I was at my Dentist who is located in the same medical building, so I stopped in to see if I could fill out my forms early. The nice receptionist handed me my forms, I noticed that the cozy office was very clean & roomy. It helped make my 1st appointment with Nusha a breeze. Nusha was punctual, extremely knowledgeable & very sweet. She made me feel like I was talking to one of my girlfriends & she gave me a ton of great information while answering all 4 pages of questions that I brought with me, she even did it with a smile the entire time, I could not have asked for a better experience from a Dermatology specialist. She prescribed me a bleaching cream for my sunspots. I received a text from my pharmacy that my new Rx was already even before I got home. Nusha had sent it in right away, I didn't have to follow up like I usually do when my other doctors fill out a new Rx for me. I love how professional Nusha is! She recommended a chemical peel for a couple of acne scars that I have on my left cheek, so I made an appointment with Rita. I was hoping they had a C02 laser treatment but sadly they don't do that at Dr. Sofen's office. Hopefully Rita will allow me to do a spot test due to my sensitive skin or else I will probably chicken out. Either way I am looking forward to my next appointment with Nusha because I have a new list of questions for her & would like her to see how my skin looks after my new Rx. Nusha was also so helpful in teaching me new techniques to apply my Tretinoin & my Vitamin C serum that my last doctor did not tell me about, I was extremely grateful because of my sensitive skin. Nusha examined my vitamins & creams that I brought with me, let me know which ones were great for my skin & which ones I could do without. I am thrilled for her advice because I will save a whole lot of money!! Sadly I forgot to ask her for samples. My last dermatologist always had great samples! I highly recommend Nusha at Dr. Sofen's office, you will have a wonderful experience no matter what skin issues you may have. read more

Rita Price is always very nice and welcoming. I have good experiences here. Although I cam for acne and still struggle they always approve of the newest acne treatment I want to try and don't push birth control as a fix all for acne which is really nice. They try and give you the treatment that you think is best which a lot of doctor try to exclusively do it their way. I am always seen very fast and in and out quickly which is great. But it's never a rush. read more

Was here a couple of weeks ago to have a cyst removed and was very alarmed at the lack of sanitary practices. Have to agree with many other reviews here. While after finally seeing a Dr who was quick and amazing I was so out off by Diana and her counterpart at the front desk I would never recommend this office to anyone. I am glad to see my observation is not mine alone. After gently calling Diana out I suggested she may find a mirror useful so she could see the nasty looks and eye rolls she gives patients. She then mumbled "Oh my God" under her breath to which I let her know could also be heard through her mask and the shield. Perception is EVERYTHING and apparently Diana thinks she can alter the perception others have no matter how nasty she behaves. Her counterpart then started in with the eyes and I let her know how unprofessional it was to treat a patient like that. She then became confrontational and tried to make this two on one exchange which I explained felt attacking into an assault on them!!! When I asked for a sani-wipe to ensure my insurance card was not covered in their germs Diana said "just a minute" while the other little girl said "we don't have those, give her card back to her". So a Drs office that offers clean pens to every patient and supposedly has a clean sanitized office, does not have the means to ensure the card they gave me is sanitized.? Thier response..."you touched it too". My response. You can wear gloves. You offered me a clean pen. I could have held my card for you to see if I had known you weren't going to protect me and my health. The front office staff are the face of this business and the face needs a new dermatologist because it is diseased badly. These two girls have GOT TO GO! It seems pretty unanimous from reviews. I hope the Dr sees the damage these little bullies are having on the practice he has worked so hard to build. Like I said the Dr I saw was amazing. I feel bad for her that she has those two representing her. read more

We are incredibly perturbed by this office. We took my 84 mother-in-law a couple weeks ago for her annual visit (for a full body scan) and to have a suspicious mole on her face looked at by Dr. Sofen (who by the way she's been seeing for 20+ years). It turns out the office scheduled her with a PA without letting us know and/or checking with us, and not only was the PA very unprofessional, rushed, and rude when we called to follow up about the exam, as she never did a full body scan and sent my mother-in-law home with some aquafor without doing any biopsy. After further review we learned the Dr. Sofen and his office has had numerous complaints to the Medical Board of CA. In addition to dealing with a PA that clearly did not perform a professional exam, the front desk was very rude and condescending. The whole experience was awful so after 20+ years we have gone elsewhere and have found a wonderful dermatology office. read more

New HMO patient. I made an appointment three months ago to see Dr. Sofen. At the time I provided all the necessary information to schedule a routine exam. My appointment is on Monday, 3/16 but today Friday, 3/13 they called to let me know they didn't have an authorization letter for the appointment. We do not need to get into the difference between HMO and PPO insurance as I am well aware but why did it take THREE months for them to realize they didnt have the necessary paperwork for me to see the doctor and why didn't they ask for the letter THREE months ago when I made the appointment. MAJOR FAIL by the admin. I would not recommend this practice to another individual until it is under new management. read more

I am a patient of Dr. Sofen and while I have gotten good service from him in the past his front office staff have certainly gone down hill. I just attempted to call the office and I was immediately put on hold for in excess of 10 minutes so I hung up and called back. I was abruptly put on hold again for 10 minutes with no one ever coming back to take a message or let me know to please keep holding. I called back a third time and had to cut off the assistant to ask why I could not get through. She was very rude; didn't offer to take a message and said she'd get to me as soon as she could. At that point, I had been gone from my desk and my work for 25 minutes. This is unacceptable service and its clear that the patient's time is not valuable to this practice. read more

I go here for my cosmetic dermatology, and I have to say Rebecca is an artist! I adore her and she does such an amazing job. In fact, I'm afraid if I write this review and post it I will have a hard time booking her because now my secret will be out! Put it this way: one time she did my botox/juvederm, and that night my toddler spent the night in the e.r. with bronchitis, I got no sleep at all of course. But the next morning all my mom friends said "you look fantastic!" Thanks Rebecca! :) Sorry to add this, but as much as I love Rebecca, I do NOT recommend Rita. She is quite unfriendly. She hurts me with the botox and makes me bleed (this has happened several times.). The last time she gave me old people cat eyes even though I specifically said I do not want that. When I called to ask that she fix it, she got on the phone and WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR BOTOX? IS YOUR FACE MOVING????? Ugh. The point of botox is not a frozen face. Honestly I will go somewhere else if I have to see her again. read more

Five stars for dermotologist Dr. Sofen, minus one star for his staff. I went to see Dr. Sofen because I am a hypochondriac and my latest obsession is my hair. I was worried because it doesn't seem nearly as thick and full as it used to, so I wanted to know if I was going to go bald or die. I had a little trouble finding the office and called the receptionist twice for directions. The first time, she put me on hold then hung up on me. The second time, she gave me the WRONG directions. Seriously lady? Parking was abundant (park in the back parking lot) and I walked into the office for my 9:30am appointment at 9:15am. I went up to the front desk and asked the receptionist if she'd like my payment now or if she'd like to make a copy of anything since I'm a new client. She was in the middle of some useless gossip with a coworker and ignored me. I sat down and went up again when she was done gossiping, at which point I was given some paperwork to fill out with a grunt. So much for even pretending like she cared... I don't need princess treatment but I like to be acknowledged as a human being in general. When I was called in to see Dr. Sofen at 9:45am (not a bad wait time at all), I was VERY happy and impressed with his level of knowledge and professionalism. He made me feel at ease, checked out my head, and told me I was just fine. He explained that our hair grows in cycles, sometimes it's fuller sometimes it's finer, and that mine may be a little finer right now because of hormones and such. Dr. Sofen was friendly, funny, and very blunt and to-the-point. He said that I didn't need any sort of magic potion, cream or pill, and that he doesn't give me anything even for a placebo effect. After his detailed and non-rushed explanations, my inner hypochondriac was silenced and I felt much better. Dr. Sofen even threw in a few extractions for me, I was thrilled with the results and the $20 copay was much cheaper than a spa visit! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Sofen, I think he's fabulous and I'd totally go back for any other skin/scalp/etc. concerns I may have in the future. Now if only he'd hire more caring and competent front desk staff... read more

Awful.. I was being treated for a possible type of lymphoma in San Diego. I went to Dr. Sofen to continue my biopsy's. Before even really looking at my arms he dismissed my possible diagnosis as eczema. This was all after waiting an hour and a half past my appointment time. While outside grabbing his prescription pad, I heard him speaking to his intern (wall are paper thin - while waiting in the room, I heard every word of a conversation with the woman in the next room to mine) on how I should get out of my ivory tower. read more

I decided to see Dr. Sofen because he was listed as a member of the President's Council of the National Psoriasis Foundation. I have recurring itchy patches that is never in the same place. Dermatologists I've seen in the past have told me it could be psoriasis, or eczema, or a combination of both. I have never had a definitive diagnosis. On my first (and only visit) I waited 50 minutes to see Dr. Sofen for a mere 3 minutes! Examining the small patch on my back, he tells me he couldn't really tell what it was. Yet, like all the other dermatologists, he prescribed a lotion with steroids just to diminish the itch. I'm not interested in just a temporary fix; I'm looking to find a cure! And really, at the bare minimum, give me a guess of what it might be before you offer a temporary fix.... read more

I called the office to schedule an appointment for myself and you would not believe the receptionist that I was on the phone with. I was asking her a question and she was being extremely unprofessional and very disrespectful to me. Her name is Andrea. The attitude that lady has is just horrible and very nasty. Dr. Sofen is friendly, caring, talented and charges reasonable fees for his services. He doesn't try to talk you into unnecessary treatments. His staff is great, too. I was told quite clearly by the nurse "WE ONLY DO 9AM APPTS ON FRIDAY"...I check my phone voicemail they left me and it says..."confirm your appt for 845"....which one is it?....the times do not bother me whatever....but to be treated like a POS for asking ....NO way. read more

Mixed review. Dr. Sofen is a very nice man and an excellent Dermatologist. Here comes the but... once you get passed off to the staff, it is another story. In 3 years I went to his office on a monthly basis, his staff NEVER returned a phone call, they are closed for an hour and a half at lunch which is when most people on planet earth can call, and worst of all, you can have supposedly the FIRST appointment (9:15 am) on a Monday, and still wait for nearly an hour with the other 20 people in the waiting room who had the same "first" appointment. So if you are unemployed or retired, or work for the government, he's a great doctor. If you actually have a schedule, find someone else. read more

Whenever I come across a doctor that appointments for new patients are 4-6 weeks out - I KNOW I'M AT THE RIGHT PLACE!!! More clues that Dr S is the right choice for you: 1.) You can call the doctor's voicemail directly - the telephone is offered as an option on the office general voicemail. 2,) This doctor has so many happy patients that just to keep up with all the requests to see him he has to take (limited) Saturday appointments. 3.)The Doctor's support staff are nothing short of perfect. (I've spoken with Mayra who for some reason is getting a bad rap from other Yelpers. Good job Mayra. Keep up the good work) 4.) They answered the phone at 4:59pm. 5.) I haven't seen Dr. Sofen personally, but I have seen his PA, Rebecca, several times (she is currently on maternity leave). She's been a great help with my skincare. She's not one to force antibiotics just to test and see. She's helped with my minor and moderate acne breakouts and some cystic lesions (gross). Unfortunately, with her on maternity leave, I think a lot of the PAs are backed up and you won't be able to book an appointment for 5-10 business days from when you call. My fiance has seen Rita (the other PA) and said she was great as well. She diagnosed and educated him the things he spoke to her about. Overall, a great clinic. I would give 5-stars if it wasn't for the long wait time from calling to actual appointment date. read more

I took my daughter to see a dermatologist. First off, we live in the valley, so I have no idea why we were referred to this place. We were 5 minutes late because of traffic, but once in the room. We had to wait about 40+min to see someone. They came in and apologized., but meanwhile we could here the provider next door talking and laughing about Mexico etc. The patient chair was covered in some wet residue, ew, which they didn't bother to clean. The exam took 5 sec and then the provider just left. Totally inexcusable. read more

I actually look forward to going to these Drs visits. Dr. Soften and his staff are very professional, understanding, and have the best bedside manners with their patients. If only zero stars were possible. "Dr." Sofen is a smug, arrogant, rude, outdated and unknowledgeable quack. I've been dealing with immunosuppression with blood work to prove it. I have had cyclical skin carbuncles for 7 years that are disfiguring my face. He refused to perform any skin tests, even though they were ordered by insurance, glanced at my skin and told me I was doing this to myself. He then proceeded to tell me to put Destin diaper cream on my face, ignoring the obvious infection and ultimately, treating nothing. I am reporting him to the Medical Board. He should not be practicing. Avoid this office at all costs. Rude, awful, and mostly run by physician assistants. Waste of time and hazardous to your health. read more

I give it a one star in my experience. No way do I feel welcomed. Dr. Rita Lau is by far the worst doctor. She is in no way caring towards her patients. She judges her patients negatively. She has no compassion for her patients whatsoever. Clearly this job is not fit for her. I do not recommend her at all. Staff are also judgmental. Their job is to make the patient feel welcomed and happy. In no way do I feel happy or welcomed. Plus they charge so much for them to just tell you what's wrong. Clearly I know what's wrong with me. So frustrating!! I have two young kids so getting out of the house for appointments is hard. I made this appointment for an afternoon my nanny could stay late. I checked with her before booking the appointment, and I am paying for her to watch my kids. I walk in to a packed waiting room. There are 6 names not helped yet. The woman asks if I have an appointment and I said yes and told her my name. She rudely told me I wasn't on the schedule and asked if I was a walk in. I told her I made the appointment two weeks ago and it was for SURE today the one day I had someone to watch my littles ones. She finally found me and told me it was marked for tomorrow. Then she snidely said, well did we call you to confirm yesterday? Well if I am a new patient, how would I know what your policies are?? I flat out said, wow, this is yelp-worthy and she spelled her name for me - my name is J O A N N A. Just wow. I won't be back and do not recommend them.
