We also ordered two regular pizzas which must have been good since they vanished pretty quickly. Second time here. Good local pizza with a nice friendly bar and an interesting set of craft beers. Pizza is good. I like the CBR pizza which is Chicken Bacon Ranch. One of two white pies they have. Now it's the holidays and I'm not making this up an interesting craft beer "Unicorn Fart Cinnamon Sprinkle Stout. Had edible sprinkles and if you shine a light on the beer you could see them. I want to update my 1 star review from almost 10 years ago. I would like to take away that star. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. Rude, unprofessional children run this place. Food is very mediocre, but definitely not worth the hassle of the staff to wait around to try it. This place is sad. Haven't had pizza in forever! This place is spot on. Was doing some errands at the court house and when the closed and locked the building at noon I went across the street and had a wonderful personal pizza. My wife and I dined at VIllage Pizza on the square in Athens. The food was quite good, the place was packed, and our server was quite competent... here's where it went wrong: We walked up and were told that it would be a 15 to 20 minute wait, and that they would call us. My wife asked what number they'd be calling from, the girl at the Maitre De stand said it would be an Alabama number. We said fine, and found a bench outside on the street. We waited a good 20 minutes, my wife got a call from a number in DesMoines, Iowa. It rang twice, but being from out of state, it looked like a Telemarketer. Just out of curiosity, we went to check and see if our table was ready. They said no, and my wife went back out to wait. The teenage Maitre De asked what name, and I told her. She informed me that they had given our table away. I was flabbergasted. I said, we had been called twice and asked how it was possible that in the time it took to walk down there, they'd given our table away. She stated that they had called twice. I asked how long it would be, and she said 15 to 20 minutes. I went to grab my wife and explain what had happened. She came in and explained that we got a call from an Iowa number, and that in the four minutes it took for us to walk in and check they'd given our table away. She said that the girl who called had moved there from Iowa. I said, don't you think that a call from the midwest would look like a telemarketer when the restuarant is located in Athens? Not being one given to logical thought, she repeated "We called twice." Trying to go along to get along, I asked if it would still be 15 minutes before we could get a table and she said it would be 45 minutes. I asked how that was possible the time had ramped up so far since I'd just a moment prior walked out retreived my wife. She said a large party came in. I said Get me a manager. So the girl went back in the back and got another waitress who came and asked if we needed help. We explianed the whole thing all over again and she said "we called twice." I attempted to explain that it was illogical for an Alabama restaurant to call patrons from an Iowa number and expect them NOT to think it was a telemarketing call. She repeated, "We called twice." At this point, an older, blonde waitress came up and told the girl imitating a manager she needed to go back in the back and told the matre de to seat us in her section. This lady had waited on us the first time we'd eaten at Village Pizza and she is the soul of competance and professionalism. I wish that she had been our waitress, I'd have expressed out appreciation quite generously. Unfortunately, we had a different waitress who did the work, but according to my wife, seemed somewhat miffed to be serving us. The pizza was good. The Diet Pepsi? eh, I think the syrup was a little low, but it was cold and wet. But the teenage wait staff could REALLY use some customer service training. I'm NOT a particularly difficult customer, this is the first time in my memory I've actually uttered the words "Get me the manager," but the kids running the Maitre De stand were rude and a more than a little condescending. Beyond that, Text Messaging is a thing. It's NOT DIFFICULT to type in the words "Your table is ready" and click send rather than using an out of state phone number to make back to back calls and then act like it's unreasonable for the customer to get annoyed. As regulars from the day they opened, my wife and I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Recently (end of May 2024) we bought a medium pizza, 1 beer and 1 glass of wine. Total = about $44.68. We paid and left a $10 tip for our friendly waitress using our debit card. My wife was looking at our card activity a few days later and noticed an additional $13.07 tip added to our a charge without our knowledge. A day or two later we brought the receipt and statement to the store at dinner time and asked for the manager. We only got the assistant manager ("manager is not available") who looked at the paperwork and she explained that it was a simple "accident", made by the waitress when in a hurry and EASY to fix. She promised she would fix it, after speaking with the waitress to be more careful. * A week later no adjustment had been made. * So we went back a second time and asked for "The Manager" (still "not available"), we got the same woman again. who apologized and even took pictures of the paperwork, our contact info, and again promised to fix the charge. * End of June now and still no fix to our account.* This suspicious "accident" and lack of ethical treatment by Village Pizza management encouraged me to post a warning to future customers, even regulars (who don't seem to be important to management), to PAY WITH CASH, or CHECK YOUR CARD ACTIVITY ASAP. The shop's management's lack of correction to our account and broken promises make me think they prioritize protecting their trashy employee, and even if you do catch the "accident" and complain you should not expect to see a fix to your account. The employee will keep your money and continue profiting from her "accidents". Seems to be SOP at Village Pizza.... IMHO: * keep your proof, call the police and make note of your experience on social media. * BTW: The assistant manager explained the business makes no effort to reconcile receipts to payments from card companies, so customer abuse is easy to enjoy. We should have called the police. Maybe made a scene. But we were too nice. We trusted the management to be decent people. Our mistake. We won't be spending any more of our money there and will share our experience and paperwork proof with others. (photos to post soon.) read more

Unfortunately this is the 2nd time this has happened. This is the Super Special Pizza. Ordered 2 pizzas online and picked up. No sauce, very few ingredients, burnt edges, cheese in center only. Mostly dry bread. The other pizza was the same way. We threw them away. This costs $56!!!!! It's not like this pizza did not have to pass multiple people before going out the door. The girl at the counter was closing the box when I walked in. Maybe this is just how they treat take-out customers. Seriously, save your money. read more

Dropped in for a Monday night for pizza dinner with Kellz. We walked in and were (at best) sleepily greeted by the staff. Maybe it was the Monday hangover but nevertheless the atmosphere in the joint isn't what you would expect given the sweet location "on the square" in downtown Athens. We "settled" on a half Veggie half Special. I was a little bummed that no special drink offerings were available, I mean none. Maybe I am cheap (or maybe you know exactly what I am talking about) but I don't take for granted the fringe benefit to eating out early on a weeknight of a more affordable libation. Also, this could have contributed to the cavernous feeling in the restaurant. The pizza was packed with toppings and was cooked well, which was great. I appreciate that when we left, it was on a full stomach. But overall the pizza tasted like a classed up DiGiorno pizza (or what eating in PF Changs takes like in comparison to their grocery store freezer counterpart). My "wings" were just nuggets with some sauce on there and they were grey/green (not to mention my sauce was literally dried onto my nuggets so who knows how long they were sitting there). Really love the atmosphere.. seems like a neat place to come to get a bite to eat when in town. Something better than fast food restaurants .. staff seems nice..... but the reason I am giving a 3 star review is I got my meal (chicken wings) about 20 min after ordering and we were told my husband's pizza would be out shortly..about 15 min later the waiter came by to tell us he had forgotten to mention my husbands pizza fell and they had to make another one .. once he finally did get the pizza it was ok... had the same homemade taste that we get when making our own at home. read more
