After an explore of the lovely and interesting village of Eyam we spotted this little cafe still open at around 4pm with benches outside so we could sit and soak up the last of the day's summer sun.
It is a really pretty little cafe and tearoom set in the heart of the village. Despite getting there late in the day they still had a pretty good selection of cake left and between us we went for a couple of chunks of rocky road and a fruit scone with jam and butter. The rocky road (my choice) was delicious and not too sickly sweet as sometimes it can be. My dad said the scone was good but was a little smaller than he was expecting/hoping. My husband and I had a flat white and cappuccino respectively and they were good, strong, well made coffees.
The only thing that let this place down, and the reason I wavered between a 3 and a 4, was the service during our visit. As I said earlier, it was close to to the end of the day and despite not being advised of when they shut when we ordered, my sister heard the young girl behind the counter mutter to another customer that they were trying to close. She then spent the rest of the time we were there with a face that could have soured milk, so much so that it actually became comical by the end. Still not what I want to have as the overriding memory though. Shame. read more
