My boyfriend had a Mediterranean vegetable quiche. Now, I don't really like quiche but this was moist without being soggy. Lots of flavour in it as well. The inside of the cafe was cosy and much busier than the outside. The specials board also looked appetising and the cakes all looked amazing and home baked. First stop was Matlock - cute little village, powerful river flowing though town, nice views all around. We wanted to have lunch but hadn't really seen anything and so we decided to head to Bakewell (about 20 minutes drive) when I noticed a classy, inviting, purple sign by the road "The Orangery". We quickly turned around and are so glad that we did! We had a really GREAT lunch and have already booked again for Christmas Eve when our daughter and new husband visit. It may sound odd but it used to be part of a very prestigious school for over a century - the most famous "Old Girl" was Richmal Crompton who wrote all the "William" books that I devoured as a kid. Now the whole complex is basically a old peoples home (Man are they lucky!!). So the lunchgoers were, on average, grey haired (but I am going that way too) - but it was fairly quiet in terms of lunchgoers and music (just the right volume - Christmas songs, Wham and many many more of the favorites. The restaurant drips class, the bistro also (full bar). A wide selection of offerings _ I seriously wanted the prawn curry but got lured into a Christmas special. I was introduced to Black Pudding, an acquired taste for even the English- pigs blood and intestines mashed into a hockey puck. I have nothing to compare it to but a taste of it was good for me. It was crispy, soft like pudding and a bit sweet. I opted for the tuna panini which was terrific. I read it came with chips which I figured were fries but got actual potato chips which was fine I guess. Michael said his All Day Breakfast was spot on except for the sausage which he described as cheap or watery. The other lads said there's were fine and devoured it spite being hung over. Before breakfast I asked to walk past the gates to witness the sprawling fields. I was welcomed with a bit of apprehension and took a few photos as you may see. Apparently no one asks to go back into the farm. I breathed in the cool air and appreciated the beauty of the English horizon. I was met by the owner, Bill Williams, in a tractor who stopped me to have a bit of a chat. He is a funny man when he said the view was "alright" and there wasn't much to see. I learned the farm was 400 acres and how he had a kick travelling the California coast line several years ago. When I return to Chester I will be sure to come back and eat here and say hello.

We sat in one of the backrooms which was very cozy and inviting, albeit a bit noisy from a rowdy group of "ladies who lunch," but it was fine once they left. We all really appreciated that savory items were included in the the afternoon tea. The menu features a selection of sandwiches, savouries, a cup of soup, a bucket of chips, a selection of cakes and a mini trifle. Plus your choice of a pot of tea or cup of filter coffee. I was happily surprised at the wide variety of teas! There was ample to eat. My husband and I ate our entire afternoon tea, but everyone else in our group had a few sweet treats left to take home. The food was very delicious. I loved the little quiche best along with the soup served in a cute tea cup and saucer! Plus, the little basket of chips was a nice touch! Scrumptious! Also, it's just 14 pounds for Afternoon Tea which I think it a great value for such a delicious savory tea. Afterwards, my family browsed the farm store and boutique which featured a lot of cute country style home goods and seasonal produce and artisanal food items. My buddy and his girlfriend opened a cafe about a year ago and after some extensive goggle mapping, I realised I was a 20 minute drive from them. Aptly named "Cafe Adventure" we set off to walk in as a surprise guest, just dropping in (from Hong Kong)... Also, we were starving. The cafe has a homey feel to it with wooden tables, mismatched chairs. For me, the selling point on venue is the outdoor space. With tables, chairs and an awning you can happily enjoy the British weather with a side of coffee. We ordered a range of breakfasts, from English fry ups (complete with black pudding) to sausage sandwiches to crumpets. All the ingredients were fresh with that gorgeous local feel to it. I found the bread (baps and bloomers) are sourced from a bakery in Sheffield. Err, hello and yes please. I was the sausage sandwich recipient and gobbled this down without a second thought. Coffee is also good here and my family went for a couple of rounds. Value add - ask Bill (my pal) for some local walks. He and his partner, Rachel, are avid cyclists full of local knowledge. Bill sent us off (with a car load of baked goods too, hello sultana flapjacks) to Mom Tor for a little stroll and some beautiful views. Although I may be slightly biased with my review, as a tourist to the area, Cafe Adventure is the perfect spot for a coffee and a good slice of British cuisine whilst on a tour of the Peak District.
